Microsoft's Robbie Bach has dismissed Sony's PlayStation Network, saying he doesn't believe the console rival offers an online gaming service comparable to Xbox Live.
The company is currently celebrating five years of Xbox Live, with over 8 million users signed up to the service.
"It's fair to say that Xbox Live is clearly head and shoulders above anything anyone else has tried to do. We don't have competition," said Bach, speaking to the LA Times.
"Sony has done some things online, but nothing that can be called a service. We have a big advantage and we're going to keep pressing that advantage," he added.
As well as Arcade titles, demos and TV and movie downloads, Microsoft announced last week that it will begin offering original Xbox games via Live, including hit titles Halo, Fable and Crimson Skies.
"We have a very strong, very powerful computer network that provides the backbone for our service," continued Bach.
"Perhaps the most important thing we have is over 8 million passionate members who create and define what Xbox Live is. It's a tough thing to create, and we're going to continue to nurture it."

Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4 on Xbox 360 has quickly moved into second placed in the Xbox 360 Top Live Titles top ten, according to stats on Major Nelson's blog.
It means the FPS is biting at Halo 3's heels, which currently holds top position in the rundown. And it's sitting above Gears of War, which is now residing at number three.
Meanwhile, an update for the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4 is reportedly in the pipeline, which will add a couple of new features to the game and do a bit of tweaking and optimising. Here's what's said to be coming (a date for the update has yet to be set)...
Additions / New Features:- Added Kill cam to Airstrike bombs and Claymores
- Addition of Host Migration so if Host Leaves auto-chooses next best host
Tweaked the following Oldschool Mode settings- based on feedback:
- Added Unlimited Sprint
- Increased Magazine Size
- Added Ragdoll Cam
Optimizations / Tweaks:- Identify party by background color (in Lobby)
- Optimized server selection for first match for better connections
- Improved network performance for 18 player games
- Optimized 'Chase Cam' when Spectating
- Fixed Playlist error when attempting to join from other games
- Handle Corrupt Create A Class data instead of kicking player

It looks like we know what Bungie's big news is all about then; semi-official blog Gamerscore reports that a Halo 3 map pack will be hitting Xbox Live on December 11.
800 Microsoft points (£6.80) gets you three maps - Standoff, Rat's Nest and Foundry. A bit pricey but we're sure plenty of you will hand over the cash regardless.
"Standoff's symmetrical valley, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types," says the official news blurb.
Rat's Nest meanwhile is described as a vast, labyrinthine of passages, "an indoor vehicle paradise, strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, ideal for big team battles."
Finally, Foundry is "the ultimate Forge map, players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, place stairways, walls, bridges and tunnels to create an entirely new play space and build almost any kind of map they can think of".
There you go then. Look out for it on December 11.

Infinity Ward is planning to patch Call of Duty 4 for Xbox 360 in the relatively near future to take care of various online issues.
Speaking on the game's official forum, IW's community relations manager explained that the update will optimise things like match-making and host-selection, among other tweaks.
These include the addition of host-migration, so if the host leaves a game it automatically chooses the next best host, as well as a new control scheme, improved network performance in 18-player games and other tweaks detailed on the thread.
Elsewhere, IW said that a separate update will solve an issue relating to corrupt profiles.
Neither update has a deployment date, but we'll let you know when they're out there.
Not that their absence seems to be doing Call of Duty 4 much harm. It's top of the UK sales charts, and Major Nelson's latest Live activity charts reveal that it is now second only to Halo 3 in terms of popularity, displacing Gears of War.

US publisher Atlus has shaken hands with Microsoft to become an official third-party publisher for the Xbox 360.
The first titles it will publish will be localisations of Japanese tactical role-playing games Operation Darkness and Spectral Force 3 sometime next year, and teaser sites for both are already up and running.
Operation Darkness puts a supernatural spin on World War II and sees you battle none other than moustached maniac Hitler as he sweeps through Europe.
Spectral Force 3, on the other hand, puts you in the boots of a mercenary commander and asks you to amass an army of around 40 characters to battle the baddies.
Atlus has been responsible for bringing critically celebrated games like Trauma Center and the Shin Megami Tensei series to western audiences in the past.
And while Atlus doesn't publish games in Europe, its catalogue has been picked up by the likes of Ghostlight, Ubisoft, KOEI and Nintendo previously - so we should see both new 360 games here.

Microsoft is offering a free copy of Halo 3 to all new Xbox 360 purchasers this Christmas... though you'll have to already have an original Xbox and current Xbox Live account (is anyone actually playing Xbox Live on the original Xbox any more?).
Original Xbox Live subscribers who purchase an Xbox 360 and migrate to Xbox Live Gold (that's the 360 paid version) between November 21 and December 21, then register on this website (phew!) will get sent a copy of Halo 3 by Microsoft.
It's currently only open to North American customers and even they won't be able to finish the fight until January, when Microsoft sends the copies out.
We've been on the case with Microsoft's UK op, which was unavailable for comment at the time of writing, but anyway hasn't anyone who cares already got Halo 3 already?

Xbox boss J Allard has said that the Xbox 360 and Zune music player will one day connect to the same network, suggesting that Microsoft's iPod rival might one day play a part in gaming.
Speaking to The New York Times, Allard said, "Today we have Xbox live for $50 a year. We have Zune Pass at $15 a month. We don't have a rationalised premium version yet. Fast forward a little bit, and you can image a menu like DirecTV. There is basic, there is enhanced, there is movie pack and NFL Sunday ticket.
"What I want to do at the Entertainment and Devices division is build an entertainment service that can connect, that has a screen and buttons and a speaker, so you can watch what you want, where you want, how you want."
He continued, "And you don't have to worry about multiple formats; we do it all for you on the back end. And you can reach all these eyeballs without lifting a finger."
Allard said that Xbox team now has to focus on "cost reduction, distribution and quality process," going forward. "Everyone is on their own cadence," he said.
"The one thing that transcends all this is the network as the nexus."

New from Mr Modchips
This device pulses any LEDs you connect to it with the beat of the music coming from your console. It can also fade your LEDs when the console is off. This device works with up to 150 LEDs* and also works on the Xbox360's Ring-of-Light.
17 different modes allow you to set your LEDs to the VU mode, fader, dim, solid on, off, or any combination of those.
Change modes easily by using an existing button on your console, rather than opening your console each time or installing another switch. A Quick Disable feature lets you quickly turn off your LEDs and then quickly turn them back on at a later time.
*The PulseVU 2X controls up to 3Amps, or purchase a Power Extender to add an additional 3Amps of power (~150 more LEDs).
Now can connect directly to the Xbox360's Ring-of-Light
Much smaller, simplified design

This is an attachment for the PulseVU 2 or PulseVU 2X which adds up to an additional 3Amps* of power for controlling multiple** LEDs. Still not enough power?? Add more Power Extenders! As long as the power supply (or supplies) can handle the power, you can keep adding Extenders to connect LEDs to the PulseVU 2 lineup.
*The amount of current that can be supplied is also limited by your power supply. Please check the rating on your PSU to make sure it can handle the amount of LEDs you plan to use.
**3Amps of 20mA LEDs, wired in parallel, equals 150 LEDs. When wired in series, you can add even more LEDs.

Schtrom released a new version of DosFlash - a tool that allows you to read/write/erase the flash chips of many CD/DVD-ROM drives, including the Xbox360 BenQ drive (without HW modification).
What's new/fixed:
* DROM6316 flashing support
* a flash erase is now always done with a chip erase and not a sector erase command, because the sector erase gives problems for some Winbond flash chips including the DROM6316
* DosFlash.typ corrected and updated
* for a detailed explanation on the soft unlock look at the included file SoftUnlockByIriez.txt, it contains a very good explanation by Iriez from XBS, thanks for that one!

Hmm...so Samsung decided it was time to revise their DVD-ROM drives. The SH-D162C [SH-D163A] was replaced by SH-D162D [SH-D163B] and while the two drives have a lot of things in common, there was really no way to make the 162C [163A] firmware work on the 162D [163B]. I've had a lot of firmware requests for the new line of drives, and here it finally is....a shiny new firmware that should make your SH-D162D [SH-D163B] do all the tricks that only the SH-D162C and SH-D163A have been able to do so far.
Changes/fixes in this release..
* Nothing 8O) This is the first release for the SH-D162D [SH-D163B] based on the SH-D162C [SH-D163A] source.
This is what you get..
* Full challenge/response functionality.
* Two types of unlock for XBOX 360 game discs. One for making xtreme style images and one for making wxripper style images. Both types of iso can be made using isobuster, even though this method is no longer recommended.
* A 'lock' function that will cancel any enabled unlock state. This can be very useful for custom applications.
* A much more streamlined command interface which is good news if you intend to write an application that makes use of the drives extra features.
* The drive will default to unlock state 2 and error skip enabled when a 360 media is inserted. You can in other words use isobuster to obtain a wxripper style image without issuing any commands to the drive .
* RPC1 support (RPC-2 actually but with automatic change of drive region and RCE support).
