It looks like Mad Catz is about to release a HDMI-kit for older Xbox360 consoles without HDMI port. No miracle here (those older 360s without HANA chip can't output a digital video signal), it's similar to XCM's HDMI cable for regular Xbox360s ... they convert the analog Xbox360 output to a digital signal, but the Mad Catz device comes with full 1080p support:
Product Features:
HDMI port on your HDTV or receiver but not on your Xbox 360? Problem solved with the Mad Catz HDMI Conversion Kit. Now you can finally play your 360 games the way they were meant to be experienced: in true 1080p HD. The optical audio port provides an alternative setup solution and everything you need to get full HD output from your Xbox 360 is right inside the box. Convenient, simplified HDMI connectivity makes the Mad Catz HDMI Conversion Kit the ideal choice for getting the most from what your console has to offer. Mad Catz promises innovative, quality products for all your gaming needs.

Hudson and Microsoft are keeping someone in the office over Christmas to push a big red button marked "Bomb-Up Pack 3", which is to say that there will be some downloadable content for Bomberman Live released on Boxing Day.
Hudson's announcement doesn't actually specify whether or not the pack will be released in Europe (the text comes from Hudson in the US), but it better be. Or there'll be trouble. Probably.
The aforementioned Bomb-Up Pack 3 will cost 250 Microsoft Points (GBP 2.13 / EUR 2.91) and includes ten new characters, two new levels and a new game mode - with a pair of new leaderboards to track weekly and all-time stats for it.
The new game mode is called "Friendly Fire", and replaces all the hard blocks in the arena with holes, so explosive trails stretch across the screen regardless of whether they're positioned along thoroughfares or not. Players will also be equipped with the Power Bomb power-up to increase the devastation as they race each other for the most kills.
Elsewhere the two new levels are called Cavity Land and Robot Factory, so make of that what you will, and the ten new characters include one called Shinobi Bomb and, er, Bomb2-D2. For shame, Hudson.

Microsoft expects to sell more Xbox 360 consoles in Japan in 2008 than it did in 2007, but Europe will be the key battleground.
The company told Reuters that recent and upcoming games from popular Japanese designers should help boost sales in Japan where the Xbox 360 lags behind both the PS3 and Wii.
"We will sell more consoles next year than this year," said Jeff Bell, head of global marketing for Microsoft's games business.
Bell said that the Xbox 360 was strong in Britain and gaining market share in France and Germany, but that sales of the PS3 had been lifted there by recent price cuts.
"Europe for us is still the swing," Bell said in an interview with Reuters. "The biggest challenge is that Sony as a brand has had greater staying power than in other areas. Not just PlayStation 3, but Sony as a brand."
Commenting on the potential benefit to Microsoft of Wii shortages, Bell pointed out that third-party publishers have not enjoyed success on Nintendo's console so far.
"Clearly, we have a competitor where they win and no one else wins. That is not sustainable, it has never been sustainable."

Those of you standing around waiting for the Guitar Hero III downloadable content announced the other day can now sink your Microsoft Points into half of the promised new releases - or not, in the case of a Christmas freebie - as Major Nelson's blog announces and Live Marketplace confirms the upload of new content.
The Christmas song "We Three Kings" (as rockified and performed by Steve Ouimette) is available for free, along with three songs from Europe - Die Fantastischen Vier's "Ernten Was Wir Säen", Extremoduro's "So Payaso" and Trust's "Antisocial", each of which costs 200 Microsoft Points.
What isn't there so far is the promised Warner/Reprise Track Pack featuring Linkin Park's "No More Sorrow", Mastadon's "Sleeping Giant" and The Used's "Pretty Handsome Awkward", all based on master recordings, and Activision has yet to tell us exactly when that will hit.
Oh yes, and on first impressions "We Three Kings" is pretty wicked, albeit impossibly hard in places. Bit like the game itself.

After well over a year in the dark, a new Banjo-Kazooie image has emerged in the form of a Rare Christmas Card.
Alright, it's not exactly a screenshot but if anything the classy card pic gives us a hint at want kind of art direction Rare are taking for the next Banjo, which we can only assume will finally arrive on Xbox 360 next year.
As is tradition for the chaps at Rare, there's even a few cheeky digs in there like the stocking with "KI3" on the front.
Just give it to us, Rare. And you should have out some red lights on that Xbox 360!

One is a flawed mercenary and the other is a medicated psychopath, but that hasn't stopped Kane & Lynch from making their way to Xbox Live in demo form, having appeared on PlayStation Network earlier this month.
We left our Xbox 360 at home today because it's cold and we wanted to walk down the road with our hands in our pockets, so we can't tell you what's in it, but we can tell you that the description promises "hard-edged criminal action" in addition to "back-stabbing online", which sounds about right.
When it's assembled on your hard disk it will be occupying 520.04MB according to the fastidious Major Nelson, which compares favourably albeit irrelevantly to however big the other one was on PSN.
Anyway, you can learn more about Kane & Lynch: Dead Men in our Kane & Lynch: Dead Men review, where Kristan argues that it delivers on some counts, but not enough others to help it stand out from other "duck and cover" shooters like Gears of War and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Take-Two has announced in a conference call that it intends to release more exclusive Grand Theft Auto IV episodes for the Xbox 360 in 2009.
The company revealed earlier this year that it would be supplying two extra episodes for Microsoft's home console in 2008, but this is the first time it has spoken of extra content beyond the initial deal with Microsoft.
"In fiscal 2009 we'll also be offering additional episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360," confirmed Ben Feder, CEO of Take-Two.
The publisher also reiterated the full game will be released next year, with two exclusive episodes due before the end of 2008.
"We're eagerly anticipating the release of Grand Theft Auto IV in our second quarter. The game looks terrific and we're confident it will be every bit as ground-breaking as previous titles," added Feder.

After an eternal wait for Sensible World of Soccer to arrive on Xbox Live Arcade, it's finally arrived this morning only to be pulled from XBL hours after its release.
The problem is all down to a bug in the game that signs you out of Xbox Live and refuses to let you sign back in until you manually returned to the dashboard. You'd think Codies would've had time to test this stuff in its massive dev time, but obviously not.
After an explosion of complaints on the Codemasters and Official Xbox websites Sensi has been pulled from Xbox Live Marketplace with no word on when it'll return. Yet again we're left waiting.
Microsoft said in a statement: "It has come to our attention that an incorrect version of Sensible World of Soccer was made available on Xbox LIVE Arcade... which has since been taken down. This version incorrectly disconnected users that attempted to connect to Xbox LIVE.
"We are currently investigating the issue and will have a correctly functioning version of Sensible World of Soccer available soon.
"Any users that have already downloaded Sensible World of Soccer will need to delete their copy of the game and download it again when the correctly functioning version is available in order to enjoy online play via Xbox LIVE. Following this process does not incur any additional charges.
"Please look out for the fully functional version of Sensible World of Soccer soon. We thank you for your patience."
In the meantime this week's arcade line-up leaves us with Tempest, which at least isn't as expensive (and confusing) as Minter's copy cat Space Giraffe. Hopefully, it'll be back soon.

Doing some simple math, GameDaily estimates that 52% of Xbox 360 owners in the US purchased a copy of Halo 3. With 4.1 million Halo 3 copies sold in the US through November and 7.9 million Xbox 360s purchased to date, it appears like a simple enough conclusion.
NPD's analyst Anita Frazier says the power of Halo 3 is evident in the fact that it clearly drove Xbox 360 hardware sales in September, even more effectively than a price cut would. Halo 3 may not make every outlet's game of the year round-ups, but it's sure to receive game of the year from Microsoft's accountants.

It appears that MS has started banning people over the past week (happy holidays xbox360 users!).
As always, we would like to gather data and input from the community as to what may be causing these bans. It appears to effect the new ixtreme 1.4 aswell as the older ixtreme and non ixtreme versions, and all of the drives have been effected. We even have a few reports of a few trusted people in the community who were banned and had not played anything but a retail copy. As of this moment we do not know if a new security was implemented, or if they are further scrutinizing the already given criteria (SS, DMI, PFI alterations, timings, etc).
So if you have gotten banned over the past week, we would ask you to share the following with us in the forum thread below, otherwise, please do not post in the thread! Bans only!
A) Firmware Version, drive type (hitachi, samsung, benq) and when you upgraded/installed that version. Also include if you spoofed the version.
B) Previous firmware version's, or if the console is freshly modded or refurbished (please include manufactor date)
C) Backups played over the past month(and whether they were checked with kreon checker, if not, please check the SS and report the results)
D) Originals played over the past month
E) Method of backing up games (as always, piracy is not tolerable on xbox-scene, so if you have downloaded these games, please do not bother posting.
Thanks to all who have contributed in the past, and those for the future

Microsoft Research Cambridge, in collaboration with Microsoft XNA, Rare Ltd., and Lionhead Studios are organising an international contest named "Silicon Minds".
The contest challenges developers to invent and build a new game on the theme of artificial intelligence for Windows XP, Windows Vista or the Xbox 360 using XNA Games Studio 2.0.
The aim of the contest is to "encourage understanding of how gaming research, artificial intelligence and machine learning contribute to more innovative gameplay and more realistic and fun gaming experiences," according to organisers.
"Silicon Minds" is also a warm-up contest for the "Dream-Build-Play 2008" competition.
Five finalists teams will receive an interview for a three month internship at the Microsoft Research Cambridge lab and/or at Rare or Lionhead Studios during Summer 2008.
Finalists also receive a one-year subscription to the XNA Creators Club for each team member and a UDS 3000 stipend per team for projects / travel to the Game Developers Conference and an invitation to show the project entry at GDC 2008 in San Francisco.
The competition will be judged by representatives from Microsoft Research Cambridge, Rare Ltd., Lionhead Studios and a panel of leading international academic experts based upon three criteria: quality of artificial intelligence demonstrated, the level of entertainment the game provides, and the production quality of the game.
Registration is now open, and entries must be submitted between December 20 and January 27.
Winners will be announced at GDC 2008 in February 2008.

Microsoft has released an Xbox 360 HD-DVD emulator for film studios and disc authoring companies, enabling content to be tested before committing to burning an expensive HD-DVD disc.
The emulator is amongst the first commercially available and eliminates the current trial-and-error process of testing HD-DVD titles.
"We are committed to supporting and advancing the HD-DVD ecosystem, and the new Xbox 360 HD-DVD Emulator reflects these efforts by providing developers with the software-based tools they need to efficiently deliver the highest-quality content," commented Jordi Ribas, general manager of HD-DVD at Microsoft.
"Microsoft developed the Emulator to help save studios and post-production houses time, resources and costs involved with the creation of HD-DVD content, and let them focus on what really matters — pushing the envelope with the format," he added.
Microsoft is charging a one-time licensing fee of USD 2,999 to download the emulation software.
As well as allowing users to test layout, menus and the behaviour of interactivity on a disc, the software also offers detailed reports to pinpoint any problems requiring debugging.
"The authoring process for HD-DVD is more complex and expensive than the process for standard DVD, and as with any new technology, it can require a lot of time and resources," offered John Harrington, CEO of NetBlender.
"In the process of working with the new Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player Emulator, we were able to cut the number of test discs needed per month from roughly 200 down to 50, saving more than 100 work hours per month.
"This positively impacted our business essentially overnight. We estimate we will recoup the low cost of the tool in less than one month’s time," he revealed.

Are you still wondering what Ninja Gaiden 2 looks like? You mustn't be very good at the Internet then, because it seems to be everywhere at the moment. Never mind - watch our new and exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2 trailer on Eurogamer TV instead. And then look at our new and exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2 screenshots.
The trailer is comprised entirely of gameplay footage - nearly four minutes of it, in fact - and begins with lots of extremely gory footage of Ryu slicing people's legs and heads off in a friendly-looking port.
The action then switches to a room circled by a big snaky decoration, although your eyes will quickly give up trying to make that out in favour of the six-armed arachnid horror that Ryu's involved in a battle to slaughter. Which he does of course. Nastily. After that, more outdoor bits follow, and it's all quite violent. Don't spoil your tea.
For more on Ninja Gaiden 2, check out our Ninja Gaiden 2 gamepage, where you can see various other trailers and pick over Kristan's recent preview. The game's due out exclusively on Xbox 360 in 2008.

As previously confirmed, Microsoft sends word that this week's XBLA is the long awaited Sensible World of Soccer, which is out just in time for Christmas.
The HD update lets you challenge friends over Xbox LIVE, go it alone in Career mode or flex your managerial muscles by leading a team to the Champions league. It's 800 points (about £6.50), but we know you want it.
Joining the Codies classic is acient shooter Tempest for 400 Microsoft points (Just over three quid). Apparently it includes both oldschool and "enhanced" modes, and makes Space Giraffe even less worth your money.
Look for both of them at 9am on Wednesday.

Details are sketchy at the moment, but some IT folks at Morrisville State College have tracked down a strong and disruptive signal being emitted from Xbox 360s, which messes with WiFi and possibly other 2.4GHz radios such as Bluetooth headsets. The signal is put out even when the console is turned off, as long as it's plugged in, since the 360 is continually looking for controllers to hook up with. Research is ongoing as to how much interference the 360 is actually causing, but apparently the signal is jumping all over the 2.4GHz band. Of course, 2.4GHz devices have always had a bit trouble with interference, but further research will tell if the 360 is taking things too far.
