Namco Bandai announced Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny in Japan with sent out screenshots and character models. We’ll start with a rough comparison of Ivy’s model on the PSP and PS3/Xbox 360. On the PSP the bright colors are a little washed out. Otherwise the conversion is impressive.
This batch of screenshots also shows what Dampierre looks like in the game. The newly created character has switchblades on his sleeves and has a hammer throw move. Maybe. It’s hard to tell if Voldo caught Dampierre in a throw or vice versa.

With Cops and Robbers out of the way, Criterion is free to finish up the last of the announced Burnout Paradise premium DLC -- Big Surf Island. This is the first new locale to be introduced into the ever-evolving racing game, and it'll add 15 events and 10 online freeburn challenges to the game. Criterion is promising big air for the expansion, and completionists will want to look for all 45 Billboards hidden on the island. For comparison purposes, the original game featured 120 events and 350 freeburn challenges.
These early details come courtesy of an early look at the DLC's Trophies. (Check out the new Trophies after the break.) One particularly intriguing achievement involves getting a whopping 4.5 seconds of air time in a single jump. Who needs Burnout Planes when you have massive jumps like that?
Our very own Randy Nelson got some hands-on time with the DLC pack, but he can't report on the details quite yet. Expect a full preview on May 28th.

THQ plans to release a Red Faction: Guerrilla demo next Thursday 21st May for PS3 and Xbox 360.
Inside will be two maps, nine weapons, five backpacks and 15 unlockable levels from the full game. The only playlist on offer will be Damage Control.
We've already had a good look at the single-player side of Red Faction: Guerrilla in a single-player demo, which THQ says has been downloaded 1m times. The game does have a story about a revolution on Mars, but it's not as fun as blowing stuff up and knocking stuff down.
That's testament to Volition's impressive physics engine underpinning the whole experience, which we're hoping will offer some interesting possibilities in multiplayer.
Red Faction: Guerrilla comes out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 5th June.

Rockstar is gearing up to unveil the second instalment of GTAIV’s downloadable content, just days after reports suggested that the company will not be showing any new content at E3.
There has hitherto been mixed messages concerning the arrival of GTAIV’s next episode. Back in March, a Take-Two earnings announcement stated that the second 360-exclusive episode will be released before November 2009.
And yet a company representative recently told Eurogamer that there were no concrete plans to show anything at E3, though that may not rule out announcements.
Today, a Rockstar Games post on the group’s official Twitter page stated:
“Details on 2nd episode of GTAIV downloadable content coming soon.”
It is not known if the announcement will be made at E3.

SEGA will bring tri-Ace role-playing game End of Eternity to Europe next spring under the name Resonance of Fate.
The PS3 and 360 game was unveiled in Famitsu last month, and appears to be a steampunk, gun-slinging affair with plenty of action.
At least, that's what the first Resonance of Fate screenshots seem to depict.
There are few other details, but with tri-Ace's portfolio counting games like Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile, Resonance of Fate will clearly be worth watching out for.

May 15th, 2009, 17:16 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has released its official reaction to the NPD Group's hardware and software sales numbers for April of 2009, focusing on third-party software success and a growth in Xbox 360 console sales for the first four months of the year.
According to Microsoft, four of the top ten home console games for April 2009 are third-party titles for the Xbox 360, including Capcom's Resident Evil 5, EA's The Godfather II, and both Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero: Metallica from Activision Blizzard. It should be noted that the top ten Microsoft refers to does not include portable titles for the Nintendo DS or PlayStation Portable, unlike the software list reported earlier.
"Sales of third-party games on Xbox 360, a key measure of platform health, hit USD 98 million in April, more than any other system," Microsoft said in a press release.
Microsoft also noted that while Xbox 360 console sales were down in April year-on-year, hardware sales for January through April combined are up 28 per cent from the same period in 2008.
"Xbox 360 is the fastest-growing game console in the US so far this year, with retail sales jumping 28 per cent year-over-year in the first four months," said Microsoft.
"In April, Xbox 360 US retail sales were 175,000 units. Although this represents a dip of 7 per cent compared with a year earlier, April 2008 saw the release of the blockbuster Grand Theft Auto IV, significantly boosting Xbox 360 sales this time last year," the company added.

Microsoft has confirmed that Wolfenstein 3D is coming to Xbox Live Arcade.
According to the product page that's recently appeared on Xbox.com, Nerve Software is handling the port but no release date has been set.
Our betting is that we could see it appear on XBLA over E3 (remember Doom hitting Xbox Live during Microsoft's pre-E3 conference in 2007?) or closer to the launch of Wolfenstein later this summer.

Sounding too good to be true, the cats at Teamxbox have posted a lengthy piece quoting multiple sources from Redmond and Santa Clara who anonymously spill the beans on what the Zune HD is and isn't. The "digital entertainment handheld," dubbed unanimously as product "xYz" by said sources to emphasize its purpose of bridging the Xbox and Zune platforms, is not a phone (that's Project Pink) but a converged "mashup" of devices like the Sony Mylo, PSP, and iPod touch. The emphasis of the device is not the hardware but the software, services, and entertainment experience if offers while remaingly primarily "a portable game console and media player." It's said to link into Microsoft's Skybox computing services for mobiles and blur the lines between Xbox Live and the Zune and Sky Marketplaces. Even the Xbox 360's NXE interface will be making its way onto the new Microsoft handheld. As Teamxbox summarizes:
Buy a song, a movie or a TV show on your Xbox, play the content later on the handheld or the other way around. Play an Xbox Live Arcade game either on your Xbox or in this handheld.
At the moment, we have no way to authenticate any of this beyond what we've brought to the table already. Honestly, having had our hopes crushed by a tepid reaction to market trends from Microsoft in the past makes it difficult to believe all these seemingly fanboi fantasy claims of specs and convergence. However, if true, if Microsoft finally breaks free from the rigid silos of its own making and delivers an integrated living room, gaming, and portable media experience along with a stable Windows 7 computing environment... well, wait this just can't be happening.

Paul Thurrott, a guy who should know, says the Zune HD is coming to us this September. NeoWin backs this up, saying Amazon will ship the device in September. Remember that this is all vapor until the device is in your hands, so take everything here with a healthy helping of salt. Check out our other coverage of Zune HD (including rumors of an international launch and Tegra graphics) to see what all this Zune HD hooplah is all about.

I noticed nobody has posted the reasons for visual error codes so I figured I'd put out what I know. A lot of these errors can be the results of any number of problems, especially with something like E74. So take these with a grain of salt. The explanation "general hardware failure" is an acceptable description for most of these because you would have to specifically look at each board to see what went wrong, but this might help with a few trivial errors, or help people pinpoint problem areas.
E64 - Dvd drive timed out during reset
E65 - Dvd drive is not DMA configured
E66 - Dvd drive pairing failure
E67 - Hard drive timed out during reset
E68 - Hard drive not DMA configured
E69 - Reading the HD Security sector failed
E70 - Hard drive not found
E71 - Error within Xam
E72 - Error within Xam
E73 - Couldn't calibrate HSIO Bus from edram
E74 - HSIO related, could be crc error, or many things.
E75 - Ethernet - Couldn't read ethernet phy vendor
E75 - Ethernet - wrong ethernet vendor
E76 - Ethernet - Couldn't complete ethernet reset
E77 - Ethernet - phy request is already processing
E77 - Ethernet - reading reg failed
E77 - Ethernet - Failed to write reg
E78 - AsicId check failed
E79 - Couldn't start xam.xex
E80 - Wrong LDV version
The secondary error codes work as follows. Each blinking field represents 2 bits of an 8 bit hex value, or 1 byte. This byte being the "E" error code.
1 blinking field = 01
2 blinking fields = 10
3 blinking fields = 11
4 blinking fields = 00
For example, an led field sequence of 1031(crappy naming method) that some people have posted. It should really be be 1431 (that other method of naming is annoying). This means our 8 bit error code is 01001101 which when converted to hexadecimal becomes 0x4D and then to decimal as 77. so, 1031 is E77. So do the same method as before holding sync and pressing eject to get your secondary code, convert each to the proper bits, and then convert those to decimal, and you'll have your "E" error code. Hopefully this will help some people stuck with 3rods out of warranty and nothing displaying on screen to see what's wrong. Thanks to Tmbinc and redline99 for their help.

New release for Xbox 360 XNA:
Featuring physics based smashing action in space, Gum Drop defines a new way to play the top down space shooting genre by removing the shooting mechanic and adding the S.M.A.S.H(Structural Mining Automated Swinging Hammer ) system. * Link to your S.M.A.S.H to swing it around or throw it at enemies for metal bending destruction

May 14th, 2009, 22:04 Posted By: wraggster
Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that EA SPORTS has innovated a new, physical brand of hockey that includes first-person fighting in NHL 10 to match the toughness and emotional intensity real-world NHL players endure in pursuit of a Stanley Cup Championship.
The franchise that has won 19 sports game of the year awards over the past two years begins a new era with gameplay innovations that deliver a new standard of toughness, the emotion of playoff hockey on the ice and in the arena, and over 200 gameplay refinements that replicate the skill and finesse that every fan sees throughout the NHL playoffs.
A new first-person fighting engine enables players to trade punches with an NHL tough guy. Feel what it's like to be on the ice in the skates of an NHL player to throw and dodge punches. Grab and tug an opponent's jersey to land a punch that ignites the fans and sparks your team to victory. Challenge a skill player and an opposing team tough guy will step in to settle the score.
On ice toughness and intimidation is taken to a new level in NHL 10 where winning one-on-one battles for possession of the puck along the boards becomes a test of will and skill. Utilizing an all-new board physics engine, players can use their body to shield the puck on the boards and then kick-pass it to teammates. Bigger, stronger players pin opponents to the boards while fanatical fans bang on the glass, just like real life. Fore-check defenders, pressure the puck and finish checks to intimidate your opponent into mistakes. Players fatigue, bobble passes, and avoid collisions under threat of constant physical pressure. Inspire teammates, ignite the fans and change the momentum of a game by instigating scrums, drawing penalties, and mixing it up — all after the referee blows the whistle!
"This is the most authentic simulation of hockey we have ever created," said Producer David Littman, a former NHL and minor league goaltender now in his eighth year working on the NHL franchise. "The Stanley Cup is the most difficult trophy in all of sports to win and NHL 10 replicates the emotion, intensity and toughness players require to win the Cup."
NHL 10 features more than 200 gameplay refinements that replicate the skill and finesse of hockey and deliver the most responsive and authentic action ever for the series. Players can one-time loose pucks, score from their knees, knock pucks out of the air and lift a leg to fake a shot on goal. A new 360 degree precision passing mechanic delivers control over the speed and direction of passes so players can bank passes off the boards or play the puck into space for teammates to skate on to it. Plus, all-new interactive crowds bring the emotion of playoff hockey to life with towel-waving fans, glass bangers and crowds that react to the action on the ice.
Prove you are tough enough to quiet the crowd, silence the opposition and survive a playoff run to lift the Stanley Cup in NHL 10.
NHL 10 will be available in stores this September for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system with an MSRP of $59.99. It is developed under the EA SPORTS brand by EA Canada in Burnaby, B.C. The game has not been rated.
EA SPORTS is the leading interactive sports software brand in the world, with top-selling titles and franchises including Madden NFL football, FIFA Soccer, NHL hockey, NBA LIVE basketball, NCAA Football, and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR?.
*Based on total sales in 2008 according to the NPD.

Microsoft today got around to officially announcing the 360's redesigned "Platinum Hits" range, which we first saw a month ago. To kick things off, they also announced eight "new" games for the range.
We say "new" because, well, not all of them are new to the Platinum Hits series. Indeed, most of the eight highlighted titles aren't. Like Viva Pinata. And Burnout Paradise, and Forza 2, and Mass Effect, and Fight Night Round 3. Gears of War is also listed as "new", though since this repackaged edition comes with "every map pack, game mode and Achievement ever released on Xbox LIVE", it gets a pass.
The only two truly new games to the range, then, are Battlefield: Bad Company and Army of Two.
No prices were announced for the new games, but as with other Platinum titles, they'll go for either $20 or $30.

Talk of Turbine's Lord of the Rings Online making the jump from PC to console has been swirling for a while now, but the buzz has picked up considerably following a recent marketing survey.
The survey, centring around a 360 version of the game, seems to take the tone that the game's already been announced, going into such detail as monthly subscription rates (hinted at being $12.99), press release-ish marketing boasts and the possible cost of downloadable content for the title.
All of which strongly suggest that the game - which would be only the second MMO on the console, after Final Fantasy XI - is all but a done deal. Turbine, however, declined to comment, leaving us wondering whether E3 might be the time/place for such business.

Rockstar has told Eurogamer that it currently has no plans to show anything at E3, although that may not rule out announcements during the show.
The publisher also said, "we don't comment on rumour and speculation" when asked about rumours that more Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content will be unveiled.
Not that Rockstar isn't busy, of course, with Red Dead Redemption due out later this year, work on LA Noire ongoing, and Max Payne 3 lined up for release at the end of 2009.
Then of course there's the second round of GTAIV DLC for Xbox 360, whatever form that takes.

Microsoft has declined to clarify the outcome to Fable II's See the Future downloadable content pack, which seemed to imply that we'll be returning to Albion in a few years' time...
"See the Future does give a glimpse of Albion's future, fictionally speaking, but we can't comment on what's next for the franchise," a spokesperson told Kotaku. He or she had nothing to add about future DLC either.
The reason people are asking rather spoils the outcome of See the Future, so if you're not up for that you would do best to scamper away now.
Otherwise, you probably already know that it concludes as you return to the Tattered Spire and Theresa offers a glimpse of a possible future, where the player controls a king walking among his subjects, and talks about an unborn child upon whose shoulders the fates of Albion and Aurora will depend.
Once you're dumped back to Bowerstone, you get the royal suit to waltz around in, with the accompanying message: "You have seen what lies ahead, but it will be years before you truly understand the significance of your vision."
Whatever could it mean? Someone tweet Wossy.
