Say goodbye to Zune, folks. Microsoft has just announced its brand new Xbox Music service during its big E3 presentation. That brings with a library of more than 30 million tracks, which you'll be able to access across all of your Microsoft devices, including your PC, Windows 8 tablet and Windows Phone in addition to the Xbox 360 itself. Expectedly, that all comes wrapped in a Metro-style interface, but it appears to basically be a Zune rebrand beyond that, with few other surprises to be found (at least for now).

Microsoft may not be introducing a next-gen console at E3 this year, but it is teaching its venerable Xbox 360 some new tricks. SmartGlass brings AirPlay-style wireless technology to Xbox and Windows 8 by letting you send video from your tablet or phone to your TV. It then turns that second screen into an information window giving you data of the content you're watching. Plus, it updates the info on your mobile device as the content on the TV changes. The app also enables peripheral controls for games you're playing -- so you can scroll through different plays on your tablet while playing Maddenonscreen, for example.
In addition to providing your peripherals with contextual awareness, the SmartGlass app turns your phone into a remote and trackpad for your Xbox, in case using Kinect and regular controllers aren't something you're into. So, you can pinch to zoom, move the onscreen cursor and scroll to your heart's content in Xbox's new web browser using your tablet or phone. When will we be seeing SmartGlass in living rooms? Unfortunately, not until this fall, so our liveblog photos of the app in action will have to suffice until then.

Nike took to Microsoft's stage at E3 to announce a new fitness feature for your Kinect, Nike+ Kinect Training. We're told it'll make us "athlete-fit", with constant feedback on technique and every four weeks, it'll even re-assess your progress. The setup will also nag remind you through Windows Phone of incoming training sessions -- though there's no specifics on whether the fitness setup will play nice with other mobile platforms. The companion phone app will also allow you to compare and share progress with friends also using the training program.

Gears of War: Judgement, which is being made by Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly, will be set 15 years before the events of the first game in the series.
It sees series’ protagonists Baird and his Kilo Squad “stand trial for transgression against the Coalition of Governments”.
The accusations include “desertion, cowardice, trespassing, theft of military tech and treason”.
People Can Fly say that the omission of the series’ iconic hero Marcus Fenix is deliberate, preferring instead to opt for a “fresh” take on the GOW universe that offers more creative flexibility.
That’s not where the changes end, either.
The multiplayer component will for the first time feature a class-based system. The COG armies can choose between soldier, scout, medic and engineer while the Locusts have wretch, ticker, kantus, grenadier, bloodmount, mauler, serapede and corpse – all of which boast a far wider assortment of specialities that you’d typically find in such a title.
Expect more details about the title to be revealed at Microsoft’s E3 press conference at 5pm tonight.

Sony may not be the only platform holder to announce a streaming content strategy at E3 this week.
Kotaku reports that Microsoft could use E3 to unveil ‘Xbox Live Companion’, a new feature that will allow users to stream some Xbox 360 content onto smartphones and tablets.
It adds, however, that the reveal might take place at a later date after the LA expo has closed its doors for the year.
It is said to be compatible with iOS and Android devices, as well as Windows Phone. Developers would then have the option to use the second device as a “companion” to the game, streaming content directly from the console in real-time via Wi-Fi.
Microsoft will code and supply the app on the Android and iOS stores. XBL Gold members will supposedly receive extra functionality not available to free non-subscribing Silver users.
As Kotaku rightly notes, the advantage of Microsoft’s proposal is that a large number of existing Xbox 360 users already own a suitable phone or tablet.
It also claims that the end goal is for full-game streaming in some circumstances.

The world's biggest entertainment product is in trouble.
At least, that’s what some corners of the press seem to think. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – last year’s entry in the hit shooter series – sold fewer copies than 2010’s Call of Duty:?Black Ops. And analysts do not expect this year’s edition to do any different.
“It’s unlikely that future versions of Call of Duty will outperform Black Ops, which sold 25m copies,” says Michael Pachter, MD of Equity Research at Wedbush Securities.
“The installed base is larger, but annual releases are tough to sustain at a high level, as a number of consumers know they can skip one year and buy the game the next.
“I think that Activision will try to continue to innovate, but they will also be limited by the annual nature of releases.”
Yet despite the falling number of users, to suggest Call of Duty is now a declining franchise does a disservice to Activision’s impressive ability to make money.
Modern Warfare 3 was only one part of last year’s Call of Duty offering, as the game launched alongside a new social element: Elite. The service got off to a rocky start, yet since its November debut, Elite now boasts over 10m members, 2m of which are paying £35 a month to access the ‘premium’ service.
In terms of revenue, Call of Duty is in the ascendancy.
“We should see revenues continue to grow as more people sign up for the premium CoD Elite subscription,” agrees Pachter.
“The subscription is the same as selling each member three DLC packs, and I expect premium Elite to grow by two million customers per year, driving overall revenues up by three to five per cent annually.
“Ultimately, they will probably offer yet a higher tier of service that provides updated content more frequently than DLC drops, perhaps as often as weekly or bi-weekly. I think Activision’s ultimate goal is to extract $120 a year out of everyone who plays Call of Duty, but it will give those users more content than someone buying a $60 DVD and buying four DLC drops for $15 each. I think that is a good strategy, as those paying more will get more, and it will drive overall revenues higher.”
Yet Activision isn’t just content on generating more money from its avid Call of Duty fanbase. It wants to reach new gamers in new territories, too.
The publisher is currently working on a whole new title, currently named Call of Duty China. The game is a free-to-play microtransaction shooter, designed specifically for the lucrative Chinese games market.
If it resonates in that country as it has done across the rest of the world, then Call of Duty could yet become an even bigger phenomenon than it already is.

It looks like the rumours are true – Ubisoft will tonight reveal Splinter Cell: Black list.
New screens from Gamekyo – which can be seen below – reveal at least one of the game’s locations to be the Iraqi town of Mirawa.
Also note that series’ protagonist Sam Fisher is wearing a brand new stealth suit and that the screen suggest a predominantly outdoor, well-lit setting, in stark contrast to the dark corridors that have typified previous outings.
Ubisoft will likely reveal all at its E3 press conference tonight at 11pm. MCV will be covering all the news as it happens.

Microsoft is reportedly working on improving the link between your 360 and mobile devices
According to a confidential presentation seen byEngadget and the Examiner, Microsoft will be launching an Xbox 360 app called Smart Glass, which will allow you play content from your tablet and smartphones on your Xbox 360 and vice-versa. The described functionality sounds similar to Apple's AirPlay service. While the Examiner calls Smart Glass a standalone tablet, Engadget insists it's a "companion app" for Windows 8, Windows Phone, Android, and iOS.
Microsoft is reportedly showing Smart Glass at E3 next week.

How could we forget the GAEMS personal gaming environment? Looking something like a cross between a laptop from the eighties, and a bomb disposal unit, the all-in-one Xbox system was always going to make an impression. Well, with E3 just around the corner, it looks like there might be another model on the way. All we know at the moment is that it's called "Sentry," and will have more of a personal entertainment leaning. This being based on the fact that on top of the Xbox gaming, GAMES only went as far to tease that services like Netflix, HULU and YouTube will be increasingly central to it. The firm is also revealing a new device with the working title "Project Vanguard," about which it's even more secretive. Either way, better make more room on that luggage rack.

The picture you see above isn’t a doll house, nocliped video game, or any other artificially created virtual environment. That bathroom exists in real life, but was digitized into a 3D object with a Kinect and Kintinuous, an awesome piece of software that allows for the creation of huge 3D environments in real time.
Kintinuous is an extension of the Kinect Fusion and ReconstructMe projects. Where Fusion and ReconstructMe were limited to mapping small areas in 3D – a tabletop, for example, Kintinuous allows a Kinect to me moved from room to room, mapping an entire environment in 3D.
The paper for Kintinuous is available going over how the authors are able to capture point cloud data and overlay the color video to create textured 3D meshes. After the break are two videos showing off what Kintinuous can do. It’s jaw dropping, and the implications are amazing. We can’t find the binaries or source for Kintinuous, but if anyone finds a link, drop us a line and we’ll update this post.

A brand new music service may be on its way to Xbox, according to a number of job listings.Twitter sleuth Superannuation noted in his debut column at Kotaku that numerous job postings have gone up suggesting Microsoft is working on a new music service for the Xbox.Ahandful of openings for a Paris-based "Team Xbox Live Music" have appeared on Microsoft's career site. Sometimes referred to as "Xbox Live Paris," the listings (translated into English) describe the team's goal as: "building a massive catalog of music content from multiple vendors and development of innovative user interfaces for music consumption on Xbox, Windows, mobile phones and the web."This matches the description in a March job listing for Microsoft's Parisian Musiwave subsidiary, suggesting Xbox Live Music/Xbox Live Paris is a rebranding of Musiwave for the console.Musiwave was acquired by Microsoft in late 2007. Then, it specialized in services that allowed mobile carriers to wirelessly sell song and ringtone downloads. Its services were used by carriers in the UK, Europe, Africa, New Zealand and Australia, but not in the US. In 2009 Microsoft pulled the service from wireless carriers and shifted Musiwave's service towards the Zune Marketplace. It's looking likely that the new service will be called "Xbox Music Center," a title that appears on severalLinkedIn profiles as well as a third-party listing of one of the recent Xbox Music openings. According to the report, a full reveal is expected at Microsoft's press conference Monday.http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...spotify-report

The Assassin's Creed 3 Ubiworkshop Edition will include the Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia Second Edition and Assassin's Creed Subject 4, a compilation of the graphic novels The Fall and The Chain. It will also include the game, but when you have an encyclopedia and some comic books, what self-respecting nerd needs video games?
The Ubiworkshop Edition is for Xbox 360 and PS3 and costs $100 in a special pre-order price, valid through July 4, and $110 following that completely random day, exclusively on Ubiworkshop. Ubisoft promises this edition includes more than 500 pages of narrative content: The encyclopedia alone runs $50 and each comic is $20 separately on Ubiworkshop, so on top of a $60 game, this edition is a steal.

The long-in-development Fez has been out for a month now, and things seem to be going okay for the title. Microsoft has confirmed that the game has now surpassed over 100,000 units sold on Xbox Live Arcade.
Polytron Corporation, under Phil Fish, announced the news this morning from their home site, without elaborating any further on the sales.
Fish recently admitted that the game's long development cycle hurt its sales, pointing to the slowing of XBLA sales in general now. "The fact that the game took so long to come out I think ultimately hurt it," he said. "I think it would have done better if it had come out two or three years ago rather than now, because things are kind of slowing down on Xbox Live Arcade - it's the end of that life-cycle."
Originally starting development way back in 2007, the game has been on the watch list for many in the industry. A game that blends the idea of 2D and 3D world creation, Fez has been a labor of love for the developers at Polytron.

Master Chief is not the only one making a comeback – the COG forces will return in a brand new Gears of War title.
The shadowy teaser image you can see to the right is the cover of the latest issue of GameInformer, and the US mag reports it is from the next entry in Epic Games' popular Xbox series.
The game will be officially unveiled on Monday, no doubt during Microsoft's E3 press conference. The conference kicks off at 5pm GMT – that's 9am for any of you that will be in the Los Angeles next week.
Speculation suggests the handcuffed figure is series protagonist Marcus Fenix, who was in prison at the start of the first Gears game. That means the new title could be a prequel, exploring what happened to Fenix during his imprisonment.
