The studio’s president hints that Reach could employ Microsoft’s new motion-sensing tech
Washington-based indie powerhouse Bungie may soon be turning its attentions to Project Natal, with Studio President Harold Ryan even going as far as saying that an upcoming Halo game could use the tech.
“I absolutely think [Halo] Reach could be enabled with [Project Natal]," Ryan told The Seattle Times.
Bungie is currently working on Halo: ODST – the studio’s first project since becoming independent back in 2007 – but during Microsoft’s recent E3 press conference the developer confirmed rumours of a new Halo project in the works, currently entitled Halo Reach.
It is unclear how Reach would be employing motion control, if at all.
The prospect of a motion-controlled Halo FPS may be a little premature; the Halo franchise has deviated outside of the FPS genre before. Defunct studio Ensemble was responsible for the console RTS Halo Wars, while rumours of handheld and mobile editions of the franchise have circulated for years.
Halo Reach is set for release some time in 2010.

It's not often we're able to do this so long before a game is released -- before we've ever even seen the game on a screen other than the Joystiq Blogtop 3000s™ we're assigned -- but we can categorically name Resonance of Fate as our game of the year as of this morning. Why, you ask? Three simple words, friends: Dogs wearing jackets.
New screens of the game, coming from Japan (likely from End of Eternity, the Japanese title of RoF), look, in certain cases, a bit less than thrilling. Sure, the game's CG trailer looked like 95405000 yen, but we're talking still shots of RPG gameplay here -- not exactly life-altering stuff. That being said, well, there's a dog. And he's wearing a jacket!

EA has denied that the Steven Spielberg action-adventure for PS3 and Xbox 360, codenamed LMNO, has been cancelled.
"The rumour is incorrect," the publisher told Kotaku. "EA remains deeply committed to its collaboration with Steven Spielberg and projects we are developing together.
"LMNO was a code name for a project in development at EALA. While the project continues to develop at EALA with Steven, we no longer refer to it as LMNO.
"We have no further details to reveal at this time," the rep added.
In a recent Edge interview, consultant game designer Jason Rohrer claimed LMNO had been "pretty much cancelled".
His comments follow a string of speculation around the title. This began late last year, when reports suggested "almost everyone" working on LMNO had been made redundant. EA denied the claims.
Spielberg signed with EA in 2005 to create a trio of games, from which two emerged: one codenamed PQRS, the other LMNO. PQRS turned out to be the excellent Wii puzzle game Boom Blox, which recently received an equally-brilliant sequel, Boom Blox: Bash Party.
Nothing more is known about LMNO.
Spielberg has, of late, been a Hollywood face synonymous with gaming. His on-stage appearance at E3 during Microsoft's revelation of Project Natal raised questions, such as what he might be using the technology to make, and who he might be making it for.

Price drops weren't on the lips of any of the big three at this year's E3, but rumours persist that a PlayStation 3 price reduction is imminent, to be closely followed by a similar move by Microsoft.
A drop in the price of the PS3 is due this autumn, according to a source speaking to Ars Technica, predicting that once current stock of the 80GB hardware has sold through, the 160GB hard drive model will become prevalent.
Sony will then drop the price of the console towards the end of the year and launch a new PS3 Slim at around the same time. How big that price drop will be remains to be seen, but the company will no doubt hope consumers will react favourably to any step to narrow the price difference between it and the Xbox 360 Elite system.
As for Microsoft's strategy for 2009 - it could be set to do away with the 60GB Xbox 360 Pro entirely in favour for the Elite system.
With the company's shift to sell full retail games through Xbox Live and also films and other content via Zune video, a bigger hard drive as standard would be logical.
The source concluded some solid bundles will help shift remaining stock of the Pro Xbox 360, with a price cut in early September aiding sales of the 120GB version, then a further new bundle will hit retail around October.

Capcom's released new videos and screenshots of its XBLA and PSN fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
The download version was rumoured to be hitting the console online services today, but Capcom's since piped in to tell fans that it'll be releasing closer to "the end of July".
Two of the videos demonstrate how to be wicked using Wolverine and Ryu, and then the third naturally has them kicking the snot out of each other. Enjoy.

Joystiq tipsters -- and Xbox.com regulars -- have noticed a strange Beta 2009 icon appearing on some Xbox 360 'Played Games' profiles. While speculation (or hopes and dreams) was that the icon was related to something important, sources tell Joystiq that Microsoft is internally testing Avatar awards. Sorry, no megatons here.
From what we've been told, the test is an executable built for Beta users to play with the awards program before it launches. Avatar awards are triggered by in-game achievements: when a player unlocks an award -- clothing was the only specific award mentioned -- it is made available in the Avatar customization menu of the NXE. Select Xbox 360 users are already sporting fancy new threads, which are presumably related to this beta test.
Avatar awards were one of the many new features coming to the NXE revealed at E3 2009 -- including the smart evil idea of charging users for the real "cool" stuff.

Select individuals have been seen sporting Halo-themed Avatar clothing recently, with fine young gentleman Randy No Arms being the latest spotted. It makes sense, considering the guy works for Microsoft, but are these new duds a part of the Avatar rewards beta, or is this the Avatar marketplace at work? Regardless, we're totally jealous he's sporting a slew of Halo-branded clothes, including a hat emblazoned with the UNSC symbol, a shirt with a pair of crossed energy swords, and a nice pair of khaki shorts with the Spartan helmet on the left leg.

We're all still reeling from the passing of the King of Pop, but fortunately, Microsoft's got a nice (albeit brief) memorial for Michael Jackson up on Xbox Live. This weekend only, the Video Marketplace is giving away the full, ten-minute version of MJ's classic "Thriller" music video for your viewing pleasure. Yep, the greatest music video of all time is free to download until the end of the day today.
It's a nice gesture -- but why not just make the video permanently free? We're not sure these wounds will heal in such a short period of time.

If you were jealous that we got our greasy, unworthy hands on a 4-player co-op demo of Lost Planet 2 during our ransacking of E3 2009, you can now cool your jets -- according to producer Jun Takeuchi during an appearance on Famitsu's "Midnight Live 360," the same demo is coming to Xbox Live "soon." Actually, Takeuchi's exact words were, "soon, I guess," a sentiment that doesn't exactly fill us with optimism regarding the actual soon-ness of the demo's release.
Takeuchi showcased a number of new features during the Famitsu program, such as computer-controlled bots, custom weapon sets and character customization, which he explained can be done using items you unlock in tandem with certain achievements. We don't know whether any of these features will be present in the demo -- but if it's as similar to the E3 demo as Takeuchi says, it should be radical enough without them.

Sony Computer Entertainment and Microsoft both showed off new motion control at E3 2009 and both appear to have designs on launching those offerings in 2010. And some third party publishers already have Project Natal dev kits.
THQ's Brian Farrell tells G4's The Feed that his company already has Natal development tools. They've had them for four to six weeks, by his estimation. The same can't be said for development on Sony's PlayStation Eye powered motion control tech, which is apparently still in the third-party "discussion" stage.
Sony apparently did say to developers, via a recent dev community bulletin, that "hardware prototypes and support are in extremely limited supply," that it is "prioritizing allocation for those partners likely to be able to deliver a title that makes use of the distinctive features of this controller at its consumer launch." That launch is penciled in for Spring of 2010, a launch that may not include THQ.
On the Natal front, Farrell isn't quite yet ready to discuss what THQ has planned. He doesn't rule out motion controlled content target at core users, but says the camera tech "feels more casual to us at this point."

I'm kicking myself for not having subscribed to the Official Xbox Magazine, as subscribers are due to get a free Left 4 Dead premium theme to zombify their Xbox 360s. Wait, do I subscribe to OXM? I can never remember.
This nice little bonus for those of us who have turned their Xbox 360s into a dedicated Left 4 Dead player will almost assuredly spawn more anti-Valve sentiment because they're clearly wasting their time on themes and not precious campaigns. Please sign my petition.
