TopWare has explained that elements of scrapped expansion Two Worlds: The Temptation will appear in recently-announced sequel Two Worlds II, but made it clear that the latter is "for sure a different title and not a simple rename".
"After Two Worlds the dev team started an add-on. Later this was too huge and became a full product (Two Worlds: The Temptation), but in the last year as the development went forward, we found the technology outdated and started a new engine generation from the scratch. Now it is a real Two Worlds II with state-of-the-art technology," TopWare boss Dirk Hassinger told Joystiq.
"Of course some ideas and story partly developed in the last couple of years, which could have been a part of Two Worlds: The Temptation (PC/360) and Revelation (PS3), will be used for TWII, but it is for sure a different title and not a simple rename."
Two Worlds: Temptation was announced in November 2007 for release the subsequent year, but obviously this never happened. Two Worlds II apparently makes "quantum leaps" over the original role-playing game, which wasn't very good. There's a new combat engine, new AI, new script and new visuals.
Whether these will add up to the "breathtaking experience" promised in the press release we'll have to wait and see.

Cliff Bleszinski, design director for Epic Games, said in an interview with Develop that while motion control schemes like Project Natal look interesting, Epic will probably be sticking with classic controllers "for the foreseeable future." He said, "Microsoft came down a few weeks before E3 and gave us a demo, and they're now shipping out the dev kits; I think it's great. When you start combining the motion-capture, the facial recognition, and the vocal recognition you can create some unique experiences. And of course more accessibility is always a good thing. When you build an interface like that though you need to [specifically] design a game for it. It can't just be tacked on."

Ben Heckendorn—true geek god amongst men—is back with revision 5 of his portable Xbox 360 console.
Though he's gutted the same Gateway 1775W laptop with 17-inch (1280 by 720) display, he writes that this design is from scratch, and has the following new features:
• Built-in Ethernet port, finally.
• Built-in WiFi adapter, as usual.
• Digital pushbutton volume control rather than a clunky knob. Different, better sounding audio amp

Tecmo Koei president Kenji Matsubara doubts the hardcore appeal of Sony's new motion controllers and Microsoft's Project Natal technology, saying they will be "more suited to casual games".
"We are very excited about the future with Project Natal and Sony's motion controllers. At the same time, we have some concerns over the fact that we specialise in making action games, so we have to explore whether we can achieve real-time response from a controller-free system," Matsubara told CVG.
"We understand that, for casual gamers playing dance games or some sort of fishing game, this controller-free system can be popular. But for hardcore gamers who like actions games, we have to research and develop games that satisfy our core gamers," he added.
"I expect that, from the beginning, both these types of controls will be more suited to casual games, and later go into more hardcore oriented experiences. That's how, in my understanding, most companies' strategies will apply."
Sony confirmed it will show more of its motion tech at the Develop Conference, which runs from July 14-16.

Whilst the North American beta continues to impress on the other side of the Atlantic, Microsoft has announced that the UK version of Xbox Live multiplayer quiz show 1 vs 100 will be released in the UK on July 10th.
The game, which was initially due to be released alongside last year’s New Xbox Experience firmware upgrade, will offer actual prizes for those lucky enough to be selected to take part each time.
“Xbox is delighted to team up with Endemol to bring the hit TV game show 1 vs 100 to the Xbox Live platform and deliver the first truly interactive game show experience,” Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices boss Stephen McGill stated.
“We believe consumers will really enjoy being able to take part in a real live game show, where they can have fun challenging friends, family and other LIVE members, whilst having the chance to win some really great prizes.”
Endemol’s global head of media and new business
Adam Valkin added: “Endemol is very excited to be working with Xbox LIVE to bring the global hit TV game show 1 vs 100 to a new audience. We’re also delighted that Microsoft has chosen a flagship Endemol format to launch its groundbreaking new platform, which takes interactivity and social gaming to a new level.”

Remember when the Xbox 360 launched in Japan? Boy, that was embarrassing! Microsoft has turned things around of late and found a small degree of success in the region.
"Xbox 360 as a business is doing better than the old Xbox," Tecmo Koei boss Kenji Matsubara tells game site Kikizo. "They have a good opportunity for growth, but of course Sony is a Japanese company and Microsoft is known as a business software company, so brand image is one point."
Matsubara adds that "Microsoft is doing well" — especially in regards to how difficult the game market is these days.
"I think they have good growth potential for the future depending on the titles," he says. "We have a close relationship with Microsoft so I hope we can be a part of that."

You know what the best thing about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time is? Throwing enemies into the screen. Thankfully, that feature is retained in the upcoming XBLA remake. The HD remake is obviously going to be a much prettier version of the original game -- but how good does it really look? The fine folks at GameVideos have made a stellar comparison video that highlights the sleek new look of this 2.5D remake. Watch all the way to the end to see how even the voice overs have -- for better or for worse -- changed.

Apparently EA is working on a sequel to Skate 2, if the Epicly Trife twitter is to be believed. Epicly Trife (NSFW) is a site dedicated to skating, and its twitter account said the following: "I just got told 'tonight we gotta celebrate,' one of the bro's got offered to be in SKATE 3." By no means a confirmation, we're still excited, as Skate 2 was not only a great sequel, but pretty much the best skating sim around. Plus, it's much easier to get up after falling down four flights of stairs in a video game, as gravity is a much more harsh mistress in real life.
We've put in word to EA for comment, but with almost everyone taking the day off today, don't hold your breath for a response. We sure aren't.

TopWare (now owned by Zuxxez) has announced a sequel to Oblivion-alike RPG Two Worlds.
Memorably dubbed Two Worlds II, the game will appear on Mac, "next-gen consoles" and PC this winter.
The sequel has been in development for two years and makes "quantum leaps" in all areas, boasts the press release. AI has been overhauled, authors ditched and a brand-new combat engine employed. Not in place of the authors, obviously.
It will be an "unforgettable experience where excitement, sheer enjoyment and graphics rule", which is presumably why the statement goes into bizarre depth about all the graphical techniques used. Boring, says I. Screenshots are much easier.
Two Worlds II is set two years after the first game, where new adventures in brand-new locations "packed full of atmosphere" await.
Developer Reality Pump is owned by Zuxxez too, and the split from previous publisher SouthPeak appears to be a big deal, enabling fan feedback to be incorporated, development time taken and a "breathtaking experience" to emerge.
The original Two Worlds, however, was "a mess", as our review points out. "Average but quite charming" on PC, but dreadfully converted to Xbox 360.

Polytron has announced that Fez will be released on Xbox Live Arcade next year.
"Fez is coming to Xbox Live Arcade early 2010" is the headline on the official site, which doesn't comment on the hold-up.
Fez, which won an award at the Independent Games Festival last year, always cuts a fine form in videos. It's about a 2D man who discovers the world is 3D, with various perspective-skewing implications for its puzzle-platform gameplay.

Here's an awesome seven minutes of actual-us-playing-in-game-footage recorded from the Left 4 Dead 2 press demo we hammered yesterday.
The footage has us showing up less skilful Journalists in one of the second game's about-to-become-legendary finales.
As you will see, the conclusions are no longer about simply defending a corner until help arrives. Instead this final act has us battling the horde across a massive bridge, in a desperate attempt to reach the military chopper at the end.
You'll see new characters, new weapons, zombie dismemberment and one of the new special infected, the 'charger', in action.

Today Ubisoft announced it will be publishing Heroes Over Europe, a flight combat game designed for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, and Windows-based PC. The sequel to Heroes of the Pacific, the World War II flight combat game, Heroes Over Europe builds on the game's impressive legacy with intense dogfights, a highly detailed realistic visual presentation and even more online options.

Marvelous Entertainment backed the Wii in a big way with new series like Little King’s Story, No More Heroes, Arc Rise Fantasia, and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. However, sales of these games in Japan (Little King’s Story excluded, of course, since it’s only out in Europe) haven’t been stellar.
In a financial presentation Marvelous has a new plan for their rich library of properties. First, is moving into multi-platform PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 development. I can confirm that Rainy Woods, Marvelous’ first title specifically made for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is still in development. Their other strategy is porting some of their Wii titles to the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Arc Rise Fantasia aren’t heavy on motion control so I imagine these would be prime candidates to port. I’d welcome ports of either of these games too since more people would get to play them.
Enough about me. Which Marvelous games would you like to see on high definition consoles? I’ll start counting the votes for No More Heroes and No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle…

N+ developer Metanet has shown the first video of its next physics-ruled project, Robotology. The studio also revealed N+ to be next week's half-price Xbox Live Arcade game.
The Robotology clip depicts a wireframe humanoid dropping onto and sliding down a ramp along with two balls: one small, one large. The points of interest are the biped's natural interaction with the 2D environment and objects, plus the ability to change direction without breaking any of the physics laws - a process Metanet calls "morphing".
"It's just a simple demonstration of how robots in the 2D world will change direction in a physically-valid way; typically this sort of movement is faked, or relies on movement in 3D," explains Metanet on its blog.
"We wanted to try something different. Since our goal is for all movement to be physically-based, we needed a solution which would allow robots to change direction while their movement remained valid in the 2D flatland simulation. This way, any external constraints (such as grappling hooks) that are interacting with a robot will continue to behave normally, with no popping or other glitches as the robot changes facing direction."
Metanet says the "good news" of this long and arduous task was the realisation that morphing could be used for "much more than simply changing the facing direction of robots"; shape-shifting, the developer writes, is possible.
"We're still not sure how far in that direction we want to go though, there are enough technical challenges as it is, but it sure would be cool," the developer writes.
Metanet has spent three years working on Robotology, a game described as a cross between Super Mario Galaxy, Shadow of the Colossus and Umihara Kawase.
And while no actual gameplay has been seen, we can safely expect robots - big robots - and grappling hooks to play a part.

Microsoft's Larry Hryb has played down suggestions that the addition of Silverlight advertising to Xbox Live this year will transform the dashboard "into something that looks like Shibuya Crossing".
The addition of Silverlight support to the Xbox Live ad blocks will enable advertisers to reuse ad 'creatives' across various media, but after a report on Monday provoked concern among the Xbox faithful, Hryb posted on his blog telling people they "don't need to worry about a huge influx of ads across the dashboard".
"One of our core principles is to enhance, not interfere with the gaming experience, and we work directly with our partners to only deliver experiences that are relevant to the Live community," he wrote.
"Silverlight will help make those ads a more organic part of the dashboard, like we've done with some of the [New Xbox Experience] slots in the past. No one on the team wants to turn the dashboard into something that looks like like Shibuya Crossing. That's just not good for anyone."
Judging by the original report, it's more likely that Silverlight will be used to add whizzes and bangs to existing advertising boxes.

2K Sports has shifted two million units worldwide of its most recent NBA title, NBA 2K9, according to sales figures released by the publisher today.
2K9, the most recent title in the 2K basketball series, was released onto PS3, Xbox 360 and PS2 platforms in October last year. A sequel - NBA 2K10 - had already been announced for multiple platforms, including Wii, later this year, but 2K also announced today the release of NBA 2K10: Anniversary Edition for PS3 and Xbox 360.
The limited edition title will be restricted to 30,000 copies and is to come in special packaging with exclusive in-game items, a special commemorative video celebrating ten years of NBA 2K and access to a special VIP 'Gold Room' over Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. It will be released, alongside NBA 2K10, in North America in the autumn
"NBA 2K is the premier basketball video game franchise for serious players, deeply rooted in rich and pure authenticity that real hoop heads get, which is why we've been the favourite NBA simulation for so long," said Greg Thomas, senior vice president of sports development for 2K. "We've always been very proud of how we engage our fans on a community level, and NBA 2K10: Anniversary Edition is our way of giving back to all those that have supported us along the way."
