Microsoft plans to launch a commercial version of its Kinect SDK early next year, giving businesses the opportunity to create their own software to make us of the device's unique capabilities.
Microsoft product manager David Dennis told Gamasutra that over 200 brands across 25 countries have signed up for the programme. While most remain anonymous for the time being to avoid tipping off competitors, Toyota and marketing agency Razorfish are among those confirmed to be involved.
Yet Microsoft does not plan to build any applications itself. "We're putting development resources that understand this tech in the field and helping [companies] build and fast track [their own applications] to market," Dennis said. "Microsoft doesn't want to build, say, an education widget.
"Our goal is to build an ecosystem and a business platform to let our partners do that."
Kinect has already been used outside of the living room in a variety of ways since the device was hacked shortly after its release last November, most notably by Toronto surgeons who found theysaved an hour per procedure by calling up and manipulating images using gesture controls.
That, and other hacks, prompted Microsoft to release an official Windows SDK for the device in June, though Dennis says that industry had expressed an interest in Kinect before it was even released.
"Even before we launched Kinect, the phone was ringing off the hook from people saying: 'Holy [cow], how can we get involved?'," he said. "We think it has the potential to revolutionise our industry as well."
Kinect celebrates its first anniversary this Friday. The Xbox 360 motion sensor was named by Guinness World Records as thefastest-selling consumer electronics device of all time after 8 million units were sold in its first 60 days on sale.

EA says the issues affecting Battlefield 3's online component since its launch last week are all but fixed.
As we reported last week, the Xbox 360 version was the hardest hit, with server connectivity problems when the game launched in North America last Tuesday and again following the game's midnightlaunch in Europe on Friday.
"We are happy to report that PS3 and PC players experienced server stability all weekend, and Xbox 360 servers are at 95 per cent and climbing," an EA spokesperson told Kotaku. "There were a number of different factors that impacted server connectivity across the platforms.
"Regardless of the cause or platform, our online teams are standing by to identify the issues and address them as they arise. We will not rest until we're at 100 per cent.
"[The Xbox 360 has] a particularly complex server architecture and we continue to work with Microsoft to improve connectivity. We are gamers, too, and understand how frustrating it is not to be able to play the game without interruption. We appreciate their patience, and promise it will be worth the wait."
The spokesperson insisted that issues with Origin - that saw some PC players unable to authenticate, and therefore unable to play - were far from widespread and have now been stabilised.

What's the scariest thing about presentations? Getting the perfect angle. You know, the point on stage where you can wave at your slides without blocking the projector bulb or your audience's view. Thankfully, Haruki Maeda from Meiji University is gonna show your text and graphics who's the boss. He's knocked up presentation software that can sense where you stand and orders the text into the visible space around you. Transitions are handled with gestures and you can even pinch-to-zoom live on stage. If you'd guessed there was some Kinect magic at the heart of it, well, thanks for reading the title. The modest Mr. Maeda says all it took was some C#, the Kinect SDK and an Excel spreadsheet to get this beauty working. You don't even need to do that if you're curious yourself -- just go and watch the video we've got after the break.

Since the announcement of C4Evas DVD Burner FW I thought I would start a thread about the re-badged iHASx24 B drives, as the Lite-On badged drives may become harder to find.
Buying a re-badged drive should also guarantees you a Mediatek chipset based drive (A or B series). Whereas buying a Lite-On drive, you could also get a NEC chipset drive (Y series, re-badged Sony Optiarc AD-724xS/AD-726xS)
* Confirmed iHASx24 B re-badges
(thanks to Exobex for 1270i and PL-L890SA)
-Asus
DRW-24B3LT (confirmed)
DRW-24B3ST (confirmed)
DRW-24B1LT (confirmed newer drives are B chipset, older may be A chipset)
DRW-24B1ST (confirmed newer drives are B chipset, older may be A chipset)
-HEWLETT PACKARD (HP)
DVD 1270i B (confirmed)
DVD 1260i B (confirmed) there may also be older A model (unconfirmed)
-PLEXTOR
PL-L890SA (confirmed)
club.myce.com
Now the A series drives are no longer produced so your chances of getting an A series drives from a retailer such as Newegg is slim. Looking at reviews on Newegg for the DRW-24B1ST, there is one dated back to March 2011 reporting a B series drive.
* Crossflashing any re-badged iHASx24 B to Lite-On firmware (Thanks to Spark for procedure)
Utilities and Lite-On iHASx24 B firmware can be found here
Personally I would recommend iHAS624 B firmware for LightScribe drives and iHAS524 B firmware for non LightScribe drives as this gets you the largest feature set (SmartErase + LabelTag), but you can chose any iHASx24 B firmware you wish.
Process is:
1. Launch EEPROM utility and backup EEPROM.
2. Launch Firmware utility and backup Firmware.
With the above steps, these dumps will be needed if you ever need to return the drive to stock for warranted repair etc so it's a good idea to make 2 dumps just to be sure.
3. Flash the drive using the Firmware utility selecting the exe file. All settings should be left as default. (note: unscrabbled c0deguys firmware is required)
4. After the Flashing utility confirms that the flash is successful, power cycle the drive. The Green activity LED on it will now flash constantly but the eject button etc should respond as normal.
5. Run the EEPROM utility and launch the Convert option. This will finalize the cross flash process.
6. Once this has completed successfully, power cycle the drive again.
7. The drive will now be recognized as an iHASx24 B model and the process is now complete.
Note: Once cross flashed with c0deguys firmware, you should be able to use official Lite-On firmware updates

Rogero released 'Easy ggBuild v0.3' on tortuga-cove.com - a tool that will make it easier to create a ggbuild NAND image for the RGH:
[QUOTE]
PS3 Developer Rogero has released another new version for his Easy ggBuild GUI via our forums for making Reset Glitch Hack images for the x360.
This is a noob-friendly version of the ggBuild 0.33 Glitch Image builder, it has all the necessary files needed to create a Glitch Image of the Dash version 13604 using a simple User Interface which allows the user to choose his console type and does the rest of the process automatically.
The user just needs to supply 2 files ,his nand image as "nanddump.bin" and the CPU key as "cpukey.txt". Place both files in the folder "Data\my360" ,the glitch image will be created as "updflash.bin" in the folder "Data".
What's new/fixed (v0.4 FINAL)
- Updated BestPig's "fcrt_extractor" to version 0.3
- Eliminated one step from the Trinity image creation for simpler operation
- This is the Final Version, no more updates are necessary.
What's new/fixed (v0.3)
- Added BestPig's fcrt_extractor which allows auto-extracting of "fcrt.bin/fcrt.bin.meta", no more need for manual extracting of the 2 files using "360 Flash Dump Tool" for Trinity.
What's new/fixed (v0.2)
- Removed Xenon type from selection Menu
- Added Trinity notification about "fcrt.bin" and "fcrt.bin.meta" files needed for some Slim nands.
- Added 360 Flash Tool v0.97 to package with the ability to auto-launch it when needed.
- Added different menu selection checks to avoid wrong user input
The Program is now considered fully automated for all console types including Trinity.
Credits and big thanks to BestPig for sharing his awesome fcrt_extractor.exe program.
Credits to ggbuild/fbbuild/freeboot and 360FlashTool teams and devs.

We found a problem on the current Lizard-TBX Burner flashing method, we overlooked the EEPROM update on the drives, we will review in depth the whole Burner flashing code and we might end up releasing Custom Fileset for them.
Meanwhile we recommend use the Includes PC utilities to flash your burners firmware.
We have issued gecko 1.27 and TBX 1.46 with write options removed on the drives to prevent problems to users
On another topic, Some good findings have been done on DG16D5S drives but in order to continue we need more retail units, if you have one DG-16D5S drive please contact us by email: carranzafp@hotmail.com
Also we have officially released the Winbond Kamikaze Template, we have done lots of testing and changes to find the most accurate location. Please note that on some boards the exact location can still be offset. We encourage you to take your time, after marking the spot if you don’t find unlocked after few drilling check the coordinates manually. Please check below pictures to see how precise is the template is.
We are including a handle tool with 1mm drill bit so you can mark the spot and even (if you have the patience for slow unlock use it to continue till unlock). This template has given good results using the IRON method and drill method.
The suggested method of use is:
a) Align the template with plastic posts on the drive
b) With the handle tool drill thru the marking hole to mark it on the IC
c) Remove the template and then you have the option to manually drilling till unlock or use Dremmel © or Iron.
d) If after some drilling it does not unlock check location manually to ensure there is no too much offset
** Please remember its recommended use a resistor tied to 3.3v if you using Dremmel or handle tool
Here you have one Tutorial links made by sQuallen using Handle tool till Unlock:
Use common sense, this tool is just a guide, we take no responsibility for what you do with it. We have tested and its as precise as it can be

cOz released Rawflash v3, which allows you to flash your NAND from Xell '2Stages' (RGH Xell):
[QUOTE]
Let's you flash full raw images (16 or 64MB) to your NAND. Started, as usual, via XeLL.
place "nandflash.bin" on the root of a usb device
start 2stage xell and shut off when prompted (replug power if you changed SMC)
- by default it checks blocks before writing, and will NOT overwrite or erase any block with ecc/other issues (perfect for fbbuild images with auto remaps)
small change to libxenon was required to silence non-error messages
tested on falcon, trinity and jasper 256
v3: re-re-refix bad block skipping so it skips it in both the dump and flash instead of just in the dump
v2: add big block support
v1: initial version

Here are the final production images of the Xecuter CoolRunner.
Shipping has now begun to resellers and will be on sale at Only $19.99 from all TX resellers. get your orders in now ready for delivery next week !
We are also working hard on getting the Phat and Slim QSB’s, the CK3 Pro/CK3i to NAND-X Update cable, NAND-X to CoolRunner USB JTAG Cable ready to ship in the next week also.
Kit includes pre cut and pre tinned wires sets for both the Phat and Slim models. These are all optimum lengths and gauges. We have also included a Genuine TX Product hologram sticker to attach to your case so you can show off that you have the real deal and not some cheap knock off
The Wires bundle to the left is for slim. Includes the 50CM extra length for the CPU_RST line. The bundle to the right is for the phat models.
Xecuter CoolRunner – Slim install with new version QSB for NAND-X/CoolRunner all in one.
Note the longer wire on CPU_RST. The signal is 20ns wide and goes from 1.2v to 0.7v and the SMC holds it up real hard, probably some JTAG protection strategy by MS. This is why many different RGH mods have had trouble with the Slims. The wire included is cut to the length that we have found to be optimum after a LOT of testing. The benefit of having a nice expensive scope to work with

European Xbox 360 owners will not get to play Jurassic Park: The Game this year, developer Telltale Games has announced.
While the game is still on track for its 15th November PC and PlayStation Network release, the lack of a publishing presence in Europe has thrown a spanner in the works for the boxed Xbox 360 retail release.
"Europe is a big deal to us so we're working hard to have the game out on PSN in Europe on the same day as here in North America. We'll be able to confirm that soon hopefully," read a forum post from a Telltale spokesperson.
"As for Xbox 360, we are not a European publisher i.e., we don't have a European office. That means that we need a publishing partner over there to get the game out to you.
"The good news is that we'll be able to make an announcement on that soon. So, while we won't be able to get the 360 version to you before the end of the year, we'll do everything that we can to get it to you as soon as possible."
In related Jurassic Park news, Telltale has also revealed details of a Mac and PC special edition of the game.
Up for pre-order on the Telltale site now, it includes the following extras:- Replica InGen staff ID badge as seen in the movie and the game
- Replica of movie Brochure/Map, updated to include game content
- Replica of Jurassic Park patch as worn on staff uniforms
- InGen Field Guide: 32 Pages of content welcoming you to Jurassic Park
- Exclusive Limited Edition packaging
- Access to exclusive digital content including the game soundtrack and behind the scenes video
It's priced at $39.99, down from $49.99 for a limited time. Telltale warns that international orders might not ship in time for Christmas.

Grab your vial of T-Virus antidote and a swath of bullets, as Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is set to launch just five short months from now on March 20, 2012. Unfortunately for PC owners, the wait will be a bit longer, as the game will initially launch on just Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the PC version launching at an unnamed date after that.
Beyond revealing the launch date, Capcom also ran down the contents of the game's "Special Edition," which contains a "Steelbook with exclusive art," an "Umbrella Security Service" patch, a "stylized foil sleeve" (what?), a "Spec Ops Field Unit" patch, and eight bonus weapons. And hey, if you pre-order at GameStop, BestBuy, or Amazon, you'll snag yourself a bonus outfit for each of the game's playable characters. Maybe it'll make Bertha look less creepy, eh?

October 29th, 2011, 23:38 Posted By: wraggster
It appears Xbox 360 owners continue to have a tough time withBattlefield 3, with European gamers picking up copies at midnight launches last night encountering server problems, and some unable to access the game's multiplayer component at all due to single-use, in-box codes being invalid.
Reports on Twitter and gaming forums overnight show that once again EA's servers are struggling with demand, as was the case following its North American launch on Tuesday. One poster on gaming forum rllmuk claims that, when he was finally able to view a list of available games last night, only ten servers were running worldwide.
While that can be fixed at EA's end, the publisher appears to have offloaded the blame for invalid codes onto retailers. A post in thehelp section of EA's website reads: "We are aware of the invalid code issue and apologise for the inconvenience.
"Since certain retailers are affected by this issue, please check with the retailer where you purchased Battlefield 3 in order to receive a replacement code."
With the game launching at retail at midnight, and gamers across Europe looking to pick up their copies today, EA's failure to confirm precisely which retailers are affected - and should therefore be avoided - will be an understandable source of frustration. The apparent lack of server capacity, too, is curious given EA's announcement last night that it has shipped 10 million copies to retailers.
If you've had problems redeeming your code, let us know where you bought it in the comments below.

Over 10m units of DICE-developed military shooter Battlefield 3 have now been shipped worldwide, EA has announced.
To get a sense of scale, worldwide mega-hit FIFA 12 has shipped just 8m units since its release at the end of September.
The game’s predecessor Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has shipped 11m units in total since its release in March 2011.
Gamasutra reports that EA COO Peter Moore confirmed to investors that it’s the biggest one-day shipment EA has ever undertaken.
Boss John Riccitiello told investors that while he wasn’t able to reveal sales numbers for the time being, “sell through is strong” with many retailers already re-ordering the title.
