Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has said he doesn't expect a new console from Microsoft until 2014. Last week an unnamed source told Edge the next generation Xbox is likely to launch in 2012. The source went on to say a number of major studios, including Ubisoft and EA, were already working with "target boxes based on the intended specifications of Microsoft's Xbox 360 successor".Speaking to Industry Gamers Pachter said he believes "Those rumors are silly" and Microsoft will not replace the Xbox 360 "until sales begin to slow".
"I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8," Pachter speculated.
He does, however, foresee a new Xbox 360 model being launched next year.
"I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don't think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014."
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim director Todd Howard has said "consumers are happy" with current hardware and he doesn't expect PS4 or Xbox 720 before 2014.
