Bethesda's fantasy epic The Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim has sold 3.5 million copies globally in just 48 hours.
The publisher shipped 7 million copies for launch and reported that 50 per cent of those copies sold in within two days. It's expecting worldwide retail sales from launch units of around $450 million.
"We are grateful for the fans' response to Skyrim," said ZeniMax Media CEO Robert Altman.
"Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company's history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides."
The game also set records on Steam, with 280,000 concurrent players in the first 24 hours of release.
Recently Sony reported that PS3 exclusive Uncharted: Drake's Deception had shipped 3.8 million copies on day one, while Activision's Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 recently achieved launch sales of 6.5 million copies in UK and US territories, making $400 million in one day.
"Without a doubt, this has been our most ambitious project ever," added the Skyrim game director Todd Howard.
"After over three years of development, we're finally excited to get it into everyone's hands."
The game currently has a score of 95 on Metacritic.

Xbox is ten years old today, having hit US stores on November 15, 2001, and Microsoft bigwig Chris Lewis has been reflecting on the brand's launch, present and future in an interview with Edge.
Lewis, who's currently vice president of Microsoft's Europe, Middle East and Africa entertainment business and has worked at the company for nearly 22 years, said the platform holder has plenty of Xbox achievements to be proud of - and admitted that personally he never thought the brand would grow as fast as it has."We were agile - we were first with many things we were proud of," Lewis said. "So I was confident we had the appetite for it. Could I have seen us here in ten years time? No.
"Did I think we would have 57 million Xbox 360s out there and growing? No, I probably wouldn't have guessed we'd have that much momentum. But we were in for the long term and that it was a marathon, not a sprint."
Central to the success of Microsoft's Xbox business is of course Xbox Live, which Lewis said has enabled the company to build on its early visions of a connected world of online gaming.
"I've already said we're incredibly proud of Live. I know we have a rich array of entertainment partners coming and TV coming.
"That whole service orientation is right at the centre of what we do and the scope, as broadband penetration gets deeper and speeds get faster, is only going to grow. The future's brighter for us than it is for anybody."
Lewis also said Kinect, which has helped broaden Xbox's appeal, will become more relevant to core gamers.
"We were very deliberate when we brought Kinect to market that the need was to appeal to the broader family consumer in that first foray of our marketing and games.
"The second phase is to start to appeal to the core gamer, but the key is to make sure we don't alienate either. This is another example of the challenge to make sure we can appeal and resonate with the core gamer with both controller and Kinect-based games, and at the same time bring family and broad entertainment to market.
"A lot of that media work is kicking in now in Europe. We're on track and in line with the plan we originally set out."

As sure as the sun rises, another day has arrived and with it another rumour regarding the successor to Xbox 360.
This time it’s the turn of French site Xboxygen (as spotted byVG247) which claims to have word that the new console will be unveiled at the next CES Expo which kicks off on January 10th.
The course, which it goes without saying is “very close” to Microsoft, says the machine will have a hex-core CPU, and AMD GPU and 2GB of DDR3 RAM.
Furthermore, a division called Loop is supposedly handling software development with team Infinity developing the hardware.
The claims are at odds with the confirmation yesterday that Halo 4, which is due out in late 2012, will be an Xbox 360 game. Would Microsoft wish to announce a new console in January if it intends to ship a triple-A Halo title some eight or nine months later?

The Online Pass found within copies of Ubisoft’s grants access to the game’s online mode and use of an exclusive character.
Eurogamer reports that upon activating the Uplay Passport code found within new copies of the game, access to the multiplayer modes is immediately granted.
Those who buy the game pre-owned version will, obviously, not be able to access the content without paying Ubisoft for a new Passport by purchasing it from Xbox Live or PSN.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is released in the UK today.

Ten years ago today, Microsoft’s first games console was put to the mercy of the market. Built under enormous time constraints and creaking from the weight of hype during its production, the future of the Xbox was never certain.
After all, only a handful of console manufacturers have survived Nintendo and Sony’s space. The pressure is such that new consoles quickly find themselves in the same pit as Jaguar, Dreamcast and Neo-Geo if just a couple of business meetings go the wrong way.
If Xbox’s endurance isn’t impressive enough, the extent of its success is bedazzling. It stands shoulder-to- shoulder with PlayStation in terms of global sales and has stridently attacked Nintendo’s casual stronghold.
These commercial triumphs would not be possible without the creative drive from game developers around the world. Develop speaks to a number of studio bosses and creative heads, from established studios to new arrivals, to pay tribute to Microsoft’s prolific box

News via http://www.emucr.com/
This is the XBOX port of Yabause (http://yabause.org), an Open Source Sega Saturn emulator, to the XBOX.
Features
--------
It emulates Sega Saturn games, what else did you expect
Important Notes
----------------
- This version is NOT officially supported by the Yabause developers
- Overall emulation speed is pretty mediocre for 2D games, don't even bother playing 3D titles
- Bugs like lockups, sound stuttering and very low framerates are likely to happen
- Please don't ask me for games or roms, google is your friend
- Yabause Community Edition is a proof-of-concept, people said it would not be possible at all, they were wrong
- Open Source means that you will also find the full emulator source code within this archive
- Unfortunately i haven't had the time to implement a proper ingame menu, so you will have to use the launcher to change settings
- Some of you may notice the new design of the launcher, this a WIP version built from scratch, feel free to test it
- Under no circumstances you should compile the source, include it in your project and give credit to yourself!
- Check the EmuXtras forum to get support and updates
- Keep in mind that this is still an ALPHA version, you should be happy if it works for you
Emulator settings
-----------------
There are 6 options that allow you to disable various background layers, which
compose the final output on your screen. As a general advice you should hide as many
!unused! layers as possible to improve speed. Also, if you're experiencing
graphical artifacts like having only 1 bright screen (e.g. Bomberman Wars),
you should just try to find and hide the according layer (e.g. Rotation Scroll).
Be careful though, if you happen to get a black background or missing graphics,
you should revert your last change(s).
Bugs
----
Too many to count!
If you find any, fix 'em, source code is included

Warner Bros. has called on Xbox 360 gamers to help it combat a disappearing save files issue with Batman: Arkham City.A number of gamers have found their save files mysteriously absent when playing the game, and have taken the Arkham City's forum to complain."We greatly appreciate and value you as a customer and apologise for any inconvenience if you have encountered any technical problems which might have impacted your experience with the game," US community manager Andy Cataldo wrote."We would very much like to fix the 'disappearing save files' issue some consumers have been reporting with the Xbox 360 version of the game as quickly as possible. Thus far our QA department has been unable to reproduce this issue."Publisher Warner called on affected players to provide it with detailed information. Its QA team wants to know: - What version of the XBOX 360 hardware are you are experiencing the "disappearing save files" issue on?
- What storage method are you using to save your Batman: Arkham City game files to (i.e. XBOX 360 hard drive, XBOX 360 memory unit, USB drive)?
- What version of the XBOX 360 system software do you have on your machine?
- Are you running a Beta version of the forthcoming XBOX 360 "Holiday 2011" system update?
- Have you experienced the "disappearing save files" issue before and/or after installing any Batman: Arkham City DLC content (If yes, please be specific as to the DLC content you have downloaded)?
- Have you experienced the "disappearing save files" issue before and/or after installing either of Batman: Arkham City's two title updates?
If you've experienced the problem, shoot Warner QA an email - support@wbgames.com."Hopefully, the information you provide will result in a more specific pattern to emerge which will let us consistently reproduce the 'disappearing save files' issue and ultimately get a fix in place," Cataldo added.

November 15th, 2011, 00:36 Posted By: wraggster
It very much looks as if a successor to the Xbox 360 will now not be launched in 2012.
Why? Because we now know that Halo will definitely be an Xbox 360 title and not, as some had speculated, a launch title for the next machine.
Confirmation came from Frank O’Connor, the boss of boss of 343 Industries, who said on NeoGaf that “Halo 4 will be on Xbox 360 and use a modified core of the Halo engine(s)”.
The obvious conclusion to draw is that, as has also been rumoured, a 2013 launch is now on the cards, with a likely reveal at E3 2013.

November 15th, 2011, 00:12 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has confirmed that it is working on "really exciting" cloud features for Xbox 360.
Speaking at GDC China over the weekend, reported by Gamasutra, Microsoft's "cloud evangelist" Brian Prince, said: "You will be seeing things in the Xbox platform that are cloud-specific. I'm already doing it, it's really exciting, but I can't tell you about it or else I'll get fired."
While Prince didn't go into details, his comments on existing cloud platforms like OnLive and Gaikai hint at Microsoft's thinking. "These are really gaming platforms as a service," he said. "There are some limitations here, but I really do think this is the distant future of gaming in the cloud."
Said limitations include a "focus on triple-A PC titles"; the requirement for high-speed internet access; and user metrics. "You lose a little bit about how people are finding and playing your game, which can be important," he said. "And this is yet another publisher you have to deal with…another contract you have to sign."
Microsoft announced cloud storage of Xbox 360 saves in June, a sign of its intent to keep pace with Sony, which introduced the feature for PlayStation Plus members earlier this year.

All entertainment will be interactive within the next five years, claims the head of marketing at Xbox Live Robin Burrowes.
Speaking at the London Games Conference, Burrowes said that the popularity of Xbox Live had grown considerably over the last ten years, with the service now gaining a new member every two seconds.
In 2002, the Xbox Live service had 50,000 users, which shot up to 35 million users by the end of 2010.
Burrowes said that the launch of Sky Player on the service in 2009, as well as Facebook and Twitter and blockbusters such as Modern Warfare 2, meant that the user-base doubled to 20 million from the previous year.
The launch of the Kinect in 2010 meanwhile meant that Xbox live customers grew by another 15 million.

Our Skyrim review was delivered in two flavors: the "pesky words" edition and the "" version. Overall, the game delivers the most immersive experience yet in the Bethesda RPG formula, offering many dozens of hours -- hundreds of hours once all the inevitable DLC is out -- for those ready to experience being Dragonborn.
- Giant Bomb (5/5): "No other game I know of operates with this many moving parts to create such an immense world filled with this much choice in how you engage its excellent, endless fiction. It's one thing when a game offers dozens of hours of gameplay; it's quite another when that gameplay is good enough you'll want to live in its world for that long."
- Game Informer (95/100): "The biggest problem Skyrim runs into has plagued every Bethesda-developed game I've played: It's buggy. Not to the degree that Oblivion was – Bethesda makes headway in delivering a more stable product, but I ran into numerous bugs that forced me to reload previous saves. The auto-save system charts several recent points, which can be a relief, but losing progress is annoying and can erase significant victories and character development."
- IGN (95/100): "The changes made since Oblivion are many, and result in a more focused and sensible style of play, where the effects of every decision are easily seen."
- Gamespot (90/100): "Yet The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim doesn't rely on sheer scope to earn its stripes. It isn't just that there's a lot to do: it's that most of it is so good. Whether you're slashing a dragon's wings, raising the dead back to life, or experimenting at the alchemy table, Skyrim performs the most spectacular of enchantments: the one that causes huge chunks of time to vanish before you know it."
- Edge (95/100): "You play for the moment a dragon's silhouette fills the sky, backed up against the otherworldly colours of the northern lights. You play for the moment a diary clutched by a desiccated corpse sends you on a country- wide hunt for some ancient, forgotten loot. The illusion frequently falters – and sometimes completely breaks – but when it does you'll want to conspire with the game to pretend you didn't see."

A new release of Odamex, 0.5.6, is available today. This release makes great strides towards 0.6 and we expect it to strengthen the popularity of Odamex Nitro. I hope you have been joining in every Saturday. If you haven't this is a great time to start!
Due to some critical bugs that were discovered almost immediately after initial release, 0.5.5 was retracted and it was never announced to the Xbox community. As such I am including the Changelog for the previous version as well.

We’ve confirmed that the dae.bin has changed in the new Xbox 360 Fall 2011 Preview Dash (2.0.14686.0). c4eva has reported to the team that XGD2 and XGD3 backups are still booting under LT+ v2.0/2.01 (from team channel: [2011-11-10 08:58PM UTC] [c4eva] backups,xgd3 still booting). However, do not take this as a sign that everything is fine. Booting backups with older AP25 replay sectors on 14686 may get you flagged. Don’t say we didn’t warn you! We can confirm though that these changes will indeed necessitate new versions of and/or changes to Xbox Backup Creator, abgx360, and several other associated tools. It has also been confirmed by the team that drive fw’s are not affected. All the changes are currently being analyzed, and we’ll continue to update this post when further details become available.

Yes, the Kinect is over one year old now, and after some initial unhappiness from [Microsoft], it’s become a hacker’s best friend. [Eric] decided to celebrate this with anArticle all about how it works. If you’re new to this piece of hardware and want to get into working with it, this should be a good hacking introduction. If you’ve been reading [HAD] lately, you will have noticed this information being used to “build a Kinect bot for 500 bones.”
Some interesting facts in this article include that the Kinect measures 307200 distance point, known as a “point cloud” in the gaming area. From this, it’s able to construct a 3D image of the environment around it and allow interaction. Such interesting hardware didn’t take long to hack after Adafruit announced a $3000.00 bounty to open it up to the masses. This only took four days to do, making one wonder why, with their incredible resources, [Microsoft] wouldn’t either more effectively lock it down or officially open it to be hacked and modified to begin with. Our vote would be to officially open it up, but no one consulted us on the decision.
