Darksiders 2's second DLC expansion is titled 'Abyssal Forge' and will be out on October 30, it was confirmed today.
The expansion adds a "vast swamp-like Shadow Lands", in which you'll explore "two challenging new dungeons, new enemies, secrets to uncover and unique legendary loot to collect".Developer Sledgehammer Games says the update is aimed at skilled players and will really put your abilities to the test.
There's a plot behind it too, as Sledgehammer details, "The Abyssal Forge is a living machine designed to harness the unfocussed dark power of the Abyss and create the most powerful legendary weapons.
"The Maker who built this abomination, known only as the Mad Smith, was shunned by his own people and sealed away in the Shadow Lands with his creation. However, the forge hasn't remained dormant all those years of captivity; it has constructed a vast army and now threatens all creation."
The Abyssal Forge will be released for download on 360 and PC worldwide and on PS3 in US on Tuesday, October 30. The EU PS3 version will go live the next day on Wednesday, October 31. It'll cost you 800 MS Points or $9.99.

Dead Island: Riptide will introduce a fifth playable character, who from the looks of things is a burly man with a backward baseball cap, or what is the world's most well-kept mullet. Deep Silver creative director Sebastian Reichert confirms the new character to VG24/7, adding that Riptide's story is darker, with a more natural sense of beauty-gone-wrong.
"For example, in Dead Island the beauty of the island was often created by man – the Beach Resort, Hotel, etc. – and the terror was created by the zombies," Reichert says. "This main design theme has changed. Palanai is an island full of natural beauty, for example, wonderful waterfalls, contrasted by natural destruction caused by storms, monsoons and rain. And of course the zombies."
Riptide isn't a sequel – it's a spin-off that can take the game in a new direction. Reichert believes the boat and flooding systems will differentiate Riptide fromDead Island, along with a new program that tracks which weapons players use and doles out proficiency stats accordingly.
"Plotwise, 'darker' is good description of where we're heading, but of course we stay bright and beautiful on the outside," Reichert says. "We are taking a very special step in this installment and we are looking forward to see how the fans react to it."

There is a sense, if one stops to examine it, that a most significant transformation of the Xbox is happening right under our noses.
Numerous incremental updates, drip-fed across several years, have quietly and steadily re-shaped the console into a home entertainment hub. At face value it's bluntly referred to as "games plus Netflix" in the US and "games plus iPlayer" in the UK. Yet, at an infrastructure level, Microsoft is pushing Xbox into a sphere of entertainment that's so progressive there isn't really a recognised word for it yet.
It's not convergence nor is it dissemination. The future for Xbox is some kind of multi-channel, cross-location, self-interacting media ecosystem. And it's something that has clear signs of promise.
Xbox MusicPut it this way: Xbox will soon launch a music service that most people expect will carry the same curse/stupidities as Zune. Yet somehow it is clearly an authentic Spotify contender.Xbox Music will cost £8.99 in the UK - about the same price as Spotify's premium service - and it will allow customers to stream ad-free music onto five separate devices such as Windows 8, smartphones, various tablets, Xboxes and PCs.
A Windows Phone user, for example, will be able to listen on the go and then, when arriving home or at the office, can throw their playlist onto an Xbox or PC, or whatever really, in a manner that isn't quite seamless but is swift and straightforward.
When Xbox Music is playing on PC or Xbox, a SmartGlass device can sync up and provide information about the tracks, or allow users to create playlists to send across devices.
Everything's becoming a bit post-homogenous. The target customer in Microsoft's future will not easily perceive where their entertainment experience begins or ends.
And in a moment of modern shrewdness, Microsoft has revealed that the basic version of Xbox Music will be completely free to use.
Pawan Bhardwaj, product manager Xbox Live, confirmed to CVG on Monday that the free edition will be punctuated by commercial interruptions much like Spotify's free service. Unlike Spotify, however, it will support SmartGlass and boast about double the number of available tracks (about thirty million, apparently).
SmartGlass is coming to iPhone and Android for free too, though it's not clear whether the likes of Apple and Google will allow their devices to stream a major rival's music service.
Microsoft has a startling track record of misusing its resources and misunderstanding the market when trying to compete in music. By opening up Xbox Music to all (and, by the way, pre-installing it on all Windows 8 OSes), it may well have steadied its aim.

Xbox 360 is almost certain to become the best-selling console in the UK this year, Microsoft has told CVG.
In an unusually bullish prediction, the company has said there is little chance that PS3 or Wii will be able to gain enough market share in the all-important fourth quarter to catch up.Microsoft said it has received official data compiled by sales monitor GFK Chart-Track which shows that Xbox 360 outsold all consoles in the period between January and September.
Pawan Bhardwaj, product manager for Xbox Live, went on to tell CVG at an Xbox Music event on Monday that the group is "very, very confident" that it won't be overtaken during the holiday period.
"The data we have is for the January to September period, but I can absolutely assure you that the Xbox 360 will be the best-selling console for the calendar year," he said.
GFK Chart-Track has confirmed to CVG that it had provided the January-September data to Microsoft. A spokesperson for the sales monitor declined to comment on the predictions and said "we will reveal the year's best-selling hardware when the year is over".
Nintendo's transition from Wii to Wii U almost certainly means that neither console will outsell its rivals this calendar year.
Yet PlayStation UK is equally upbeat about its chances during Q4. Its new super-slim model, packaged with the JK Rowling-endorsed Wonderbook, is central to the company's hopes of attracting casual customers.
SCE UK boss Fergal Gara recently told CVG that the planets had aligned for an encouraging holiday sales season.
"If you look at the upcoming Christmas market, the Wii will be selling in very low volumes - it's on its way out - and the Wii U will arrive, but it will bring in a relatively small number of early adopter consumers. We see ourselves well positioned for the casual market who won't buy Wii U on day one.
"We've got a wow moment, we feel. I remember when people picked up the Wii controller for the first time, that was a big moment, it was a casual market breakthrough, but we thing we've got a casual market breakthrough as well with Wonderbook and the lowest priced PS3 yet."
On Monday, Microsoft outlined a fresh cross-media entertainment strategy. New features such as Xbox Music, SmartGlass, and Windows 8 will connect with each other and the 360 to provide a new kind of online entertainment ecosystem. More on that can be found here.

Microsoft is revisiting and expanding its special pricing program for Xbox 360 that lets consumers pick up a system for as little as $99 up front if they commit to an Xbox Live subscription. After being tested at Microsoft Stores earlier this year, the program will launch at four more US retailers later this month.
Under the program, customers are able to purchase an Xbox 360 configuration of their choice at a steep discount, provided they sign up for a two-year Xbox Live subscription that will cost them $15 per month. For $99 up front, gamers will be able to get a 4GB Xbox 360 with Kinect, or a 250GB Xbox 360 without the motion-sensing camera. Those who want a bundle including the Kinect sensor and a 250GB Xbox 360 can get that for $149 (for a limited time).
GameStop and Toys R Us will begin running the promotion on October 28, with Best Buy and Wal-Mart following suit October 29. The Microsoft Store will also be offering the new version of the program starting November 5. The programs are expected to run in stores as well as online.
While the upfront cost of the system is lessened in this program, it becomes significantly more expensive over the long term. The two-year contract plus $99 console bundle comes to a total of $460, whereas a 4GB Xbox 360 Kinect bundle can be purchased for $249 as part of a holiday promotion. Two years of Xbox Live Gold on top of that could be purchased for $100, bringing the total to about $350.

Xbox 720 will likely launch with cut-price hardware subsidised through monthly subscriptions.
That’s the impression given by Microsoft in an interview with The Wall Street Journal in which it describes such retail models as “pivotal to our business” and outlines plans to roll the deals out across the whole of the US.
A $99 subscription-based 4GB Xbox 360 console with Kinect was first debuted in the US back in May, although it was only available at official Microsoft stores, of which there were only 21 in the country.
This was then rolled out to other retailers including Walmart, Toys R Us, Best Buy and GameStop the following month and Microsoft has subsequently hinted at its adoption in other territories including the UK.
Microsoft now plans to expand its offer to include the 250GB Xbox for $99 or the same model with a Kinect sensor for $149.
Microsoft’s interactive entertainment marketing manager Matt Barlow said that the company “wanted to see if we would get sustained consumer excitement and willingness from partners to get this in retail” and that the response has been very positive.

But tech will now launch on iOS and Android till early next year
Microsoft’s Xbox SmartGlass will go live on Friday, the computing giant has confirmed.
The freely available second-screen app, announced in June this year, will launch on the Xbox 360 dashboard alongside Windows 8 and the firm’s new Surface tablets.
SmartGlass will not become available however on iOS and Android devices till early next year.
The tech is designed to connect consumers’ consoles, phones, tablets and other devices.
The service allows users to push content from device to device, share content across hardware platforms and tablets as a second screen to enhance the experience of playing games.

Electronic Arts is set to ship Medal of Honor: Warfighter this week in the US, Europe and Australia (with a Japanese release slated for mid-November), but there's no denying that it'll be a tough shooter market to launch into with Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Halo 4 both looking for big sales. In fact, Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz said that the new Medal of Honor is "likely to be a major disappointment" and will "struggle" to reach 2 million sales across the globe.
"Since late July we have been cautious about EA's ability to reach management's FY13 guidance due to our view that Medal of Honor: Warfighter appears likely to be a major disappointment. On July 30 we cut our FY13 EPS estimate to $0.86, well below guidance of $1.05-$1.20, and we currently carry a $0.87 FY13 estimate, close to the Street low. While we believe Street expectations for MoH:W sales have moderated significantly, likely down to the 3-4MM unit range, we are concerned that those expectations may still be too high. Based on our read of pre-release tracking data, we think the game might struggle to sell through 2MM units worldwide," Creutz stated.
Interestingly, Creutz also noted that EA apparently declined to send review copies of Medal of Honor to critics ahead of the game's release, meaning that we probably won't see any reviews to coincide with the actual release.
Creutz added, "With only a week before a murderer's row of AAA titles begins to come out (Assassin's Creed III on October 30; Halo 4 on November 6; Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 on November 13), we think MoH:W has a very short window to capture sales, and a dearth of reviews is unlikely to help. The decision to make early review copies unavailable does not suggest to us that the company has a high degree of confidence in the quality of the game."
Ultimately, looking at the lineup for EA, Creutz believes that the company will be forced to lower its guidance.
"On the whole, we do not think outperformance from EA's sports lineup will be enough to offset a probable disappointment from MoH:W (particularly since we believe Star Wars: The Old Republic has also performed well below the expectations EA embedded in their initial guidance). We also think it is unlikely that EA's Q4:F13 lineup can bail the company out, given what we expect to be a modestly successful AAA lineup (planned releases include the sequels Crysis 3, Dead Space 3, Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel, and a new IP, Fuse). As a result, we continue to believe that EA management will have to lower guidance meaningfully for FY13 at some point," he noted.
EA will report its earnings on October 30.

A few small details and concept art for Dragon Age 3: Inquisition were revealed during a BioWare panel at the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo today thanks to the live-tweeting work of Cameron Lee, a producer on the game.
Namely, Cinematic Designer John Perry said that "he's had a longer pre-production on Dragon Age 3 than any other BioWare project he's worked on," and that "one level in Dragon Age 3 is as big as all of Dragon Age 2's levels." Creative Director Mike Laidlaw noted that players will be human in the game, and that "customization is going to be bigger than Dragon Age: Origins."
BioWare GM Aaryn Flynn posted a picture to Twitter of the backs of event attendees' heads, which happened to include concept art for the game in the background. As nice as those heads are, we will update when the actual art is available. Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is in development and slated for a late 2013 release.

Since its launch way back in 2005, the Xbox 360 has been purchased a grand total of 70 million times, according to IGN. This figure is up by nearly three million units since last April, when the global total rung up at 67.2 million.
Conceptualizing that many Xboxes is kind of hard to do, so let's put that figure into a ridiculous, arbitrary context. An olympic-sized swimming pool, for instance, holds about 424,935 Xboxes, assuming a pool volume of 88,528 cubic feet and Non-S model 360s. In order to hold all the Xboxes sold in the world so far, it would require 165 olympic-sized swimming pools, with that 165th pool having a tiny little bit of space left over for some controllers and a copy ofCondemned: Criminal Origins.
To put it another way, if every Xbox sold in the world were put on one side of a giant scale, 2,156 blue whales would need to be placed on the other side for it to balance properly, assuming a median weight of 250,000 pounds per whale. That's kind of a lot of Xboxes, you guys.
