Alien Vs Predator senior producer Dave Brickley has told CVG he's keen on the idea of adding motion control support to the gory shooter when Sony and Microsoft's Natal and Sony's PS3 'wand' (aka Arc) arrive later this year.
When asked if AvP might be updated to support motion control similarly to the motion-enabled updates of LittleBigPlanet and Resident Evil 5 on PS3, Brickley replied: "Yeah, it certainly could."
He went on to say he was "excited" by the new tech. "Like any gamer I'm excited about the prospect of adding a new dimension to the medium. The Wii showed it can add something totally different that's not just tacked on," he said.
"What do you think, would people like to actually rip out someone's spine with their bare hands?" asked Brickley.
Check back in the next few days to catch the full interview with Dave Brickley discussing why AvP isn't a "me too" shooter", and the "fundamental issue" with motion control.

THQ’s upcoming FPS Metro 2033 will be released on in the UK on March 19th.
The Xbox 360 and PC game pulls players into a post-apocalyptic dystopia where the survivors of a nuclear holocaust are forced to live and travel in the disused tunnels of the Metro system.
Metro 2033 is based on the novel of the same name by Russian author Dmitry Glukohvsky. The book is currently not available in English, but a translated version is expected soon to coincide with the release of the game.

Capcom Europe has today revealed the final box art design for the forthcoming Super Street Fighter IV. Set for release across Europe on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on April 30th 2010, as revealed earlier this week, Super Street Fighter IV will improve on it’s predecessor by offering additional characters, backgrounds, gameplay modes and those sorely missed bonus rounds from Street Fighter II.
Street Fighter IV launched in February 2009 to critical acclaim. Electronic Theatre delivered an in-depth review shortly after launch, stating that; “Street Fighter IV is a fantastic rendition of a one much-loved series, and will undoubtedly be a success at retail.” Which, it seems, it most certainly was.
Super Street Fighter IV sees the addition of new characters Cody and Guy from the Final Fight series, and the all-new Juri, as well as the Electronic Theatre Imagereturn of a number of old favourites. Super Street Fighter II’s Deejay and T. Hawk join the line-up, as well as Adon from the very first Street Fighter title, later featured in the Street Fighter Alpha series. In addition to these new characters, a handful of new backgrounds (featured in new screenshots here) and a number of new gameplay modes will be included in the title also, all of which are demonstrated in a trailer, available right here.
Super Street Fighter IV will be available across Europe this coming April, and Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on this and other forthcoming titles from Capcom.

Bad news for those of you who have picked up some classic arcade titles on Xbox Live and can't wait to play them in Microsoft's new Game Room: It looks like you will have to repurchase anything you want to play with your avatar in the 3D environment. Game Informer learned this recently from a Microsoft rep, who went on to say that it's because the Game Room titles are different from the XBLA versions -- in fact, it sounds like they're more old-school and not "revamped," as the rep puts it.
Fortunately, you will get a small price break: As previously announced, the games will sell for 400($5) to play on Xbox 360 and PC, 240 ($3) for the game on one platform or 40 ($0.50) for "two quarters'" worth of playtime. But for those of us who've already shelled out 400 for the Centipede/Millipede combo, it looks like we'll have to pull out the wallet yet again.

Considering that an entire game's worth of content was supposedly cut from Final Fantasy XIII, one could imagine there's a veritable gold mine of content waiting to be polished and released as DLC. Apparently not, however, as producer Yoshinori Kitase has allegedly indicated, "at present we're not considering [DLC]." The quote is said to originate from a brief interview featured in an Ultima Guide for the game (via FFReunion), and Kitase apparently added that DLC is still "possible," but it's just not something Square Enix is working on right now.
Kitase cited the team's drive to create a complete experience in the final retail game as one of the contributing factors to putting DLC plans aside. He also pointed to the game's exceedingly long development time and the developers' focus on getting the game finished as soon as possible. Clearly, "asap" has a different meaning in Japan.

We're not sure how it happened (ok, we have an idea) but Microsoft went from confident incumbent to the scrappy tech underdog in the last few years. We're not talking marketshare here, but mindshare. Through it all the Xbox 360 has remained a constant fave and Windows 7 has certainly helped the company rekindle consumer enthusiasm as did the release of the Zune HD. Now, if we're reading our tea leaves correctly, then Microsoft's got a whole lot more in store for 2010. Redmond's already hinted pretty strongly that it's hell-bent on bringing the acclaimed Zune media experience to more devices including its Windows Mobile handsets -- something we hope to see unveiled in Barcelona. The problem, is that dedicated Zune hardware is pretty much restricted to the US and Canada at the moment. A quick look at Microsoft's job boards, however, reveals the need for a London-based "Business Development Manager" responsible for driving European content licensing deals for digital music and support engineering and development divisions including Zune, Xbox, and Windows Mobile. Another Zune-related posting reveals a position for a hardware test engineer with "working knowledge of cell-phone 2G and 3G technologies." We're also seeing that the latest Zune software update is country aware judging by Arne Hess' language and localization testing over at the:unwired. Man, if Microsoft can get its act together and horizontally integrate the best of its killer apps and services then the rest of the industry had better watch out.

Sit down, child, we've got some bad news. This is going to come as a real blow, but the Zune HD Facebook app, the one promised to be here by the end of January, isn't going to make it in time. Microsoft has said it's "still coming soon" but that it just isn't going to be done until at least February. We realize how hard this will be for you, since there are just so few ways to log into your FB account (or someone else's) right now, but you're just going to have to be strong. It'll be here eventually, and when it does that den of sin will finally turn into the profanity-free social network we've always talked about.

Microsoft has registered a motion to dismiss the antitrust lawsuit originally filed by unofficial memory card maker Datel, in which Datel claimed that by locking out its cards, Microsoft was being illegally anti-competitive in the field of 'Multiplayer Online Dedicated Gaming Systems" and their accessories. Microsoft's motion to dismiss (here's the PDF link) actually cites one of its biggest rivals, Apple, who fought off another unofficial vendor by claiming that its users (us) had knowingly agreed that by using its products, any aftermarket products had to come from Apple as well. You can't run OS X on any computers not made by Apple, says Microsoft, and so you can't use any non-Microsoft memory cards on your Xbox.
As with most legal filings, the situation is complicated. Datel is also trying to claim that Microsoft has a grip on the console market by claiming that the much better selling Nintendo Wii isn't actually a part of that market, which leaves Microsoft in the weird position of arguing that yes, there are plenty of consoles (including the PSP and even the PlayStation 2) that "have outsold the Xbox 360." And Microsoft also argues that Datel's cheat-enabling memory cards "undermine quality user experience" on Xbox Live, which would also be reason enough to keep them off the system. Interesting arguments, all, but we'll have to see which emerge victorious after a hearing scheduled for March 2 in San Francisco.

Samuel Lassoff, an attorney in Philadelphia, is taking Microsoft to court over claims that the Xbox 360's currency system - Microsoft Points - exists to "unjustly enrich" the console manufacturer.
The basis of Lassoff's complaint will no doubt also the basis of many of your complaints over the system. Namely, that prices are engineered so that you buy more points than you need, but the leftover points aren't enough to buy something else.
He alleges that this practice amounts to a "fraudulent handling" of his account, the end result being the attorney is now filing a class action suit against Microsoft.
It's convenient timing on the part of Lassoff, coming on the heels of Microsoft's comments last week which cast doubt on the future of the unpopular, confusing currency system. Hopefully this gives the company the kick along it needs to do away with it altogether.

We're receiving word from multiple early-bird readers indicating that they've received the 4.2 update on their Zunes and that, now that they're out of that nasty maintenance window, all is right with the world. That said, our tipsters are not spotting any major differences, and neither are we, certainly nothing as exciting as 4.3 brought to the Zune HD. What about you? Have you been granted access to 4.2 yet? If so, let us know in comments if you've found anything fresh and exciting. And, if you haven't, feel free to discuss the weather -- it sure has been a little crazy 'round these parts lately.

A small Zune software maintenance update released today's got three glaring references to drivers for phone devices. The collision of Zune content and Microsoft mobile software is basically imminent, sure, but are these the Zune phones? Probably not.
The references show up in the download's driver package which lists three new devices alongside the regular Zune product IDs, all tagged with a Phone.Device descriptor. The most we can safely assume from this is that three phone devices—or software version, maybe?—will support Zune content, which could point to an announcement as incremental as Windows Mobile 6.x getting Zune media support, or as momentous as three actual Zune phones, or Pink phones, or, you know, anything new.
But the timing's the thing. What's exciting to most people about this update is how close to Mobile World Congress it is—that's the place where Microsoft is expected to release something major for mobile, and where we expect them to first show off Windows Mobile 7, or whatever it's going by nowadays. Thing is, the proximity of this software update is exactly what makes me worry: Nobody expects Windows Mobile 7 to get released at MWC, but rather to be demonstrated. If Microsoft is pushing Zune phone support out to consumers, that means that something is about to hit the market, and based on everything we've been hearing, that something could well be a Windows Mobile 6.x variant.
That, or else we're in for a huuuuuge surprise.

Despite cries of "woeful" marketing and a service that's "not financially viable", developers are making decent money on the Xbox Live Indie Games channel.
The teams themselves reported revenues ranging between $21,000 (£13,000) and $129,500 (£80,200), and revealed a strong rate of converts from trial to full-game purchase.
GamerBytes deduced that best seller "I MAED A GAM3 W1TH ZOMB1ES 1NIT!!!1", which has been downloaded 160,000 times, made around $112,000 (£69,366) after Microsoft's cut. Avatar Drop and RC-AirSim were the second and third best sellers in 2009, but only converted a small number of their 400,000-plus trial users.
Avatar Drop made $81,900 (£50,714) and RC-AirSim made $129,000 (£79,880).
Titles outside of the top 20 best-seller list made a lot less, taking home between $500 (£310) and $17,500 (£10,835).
Today, the list of best-selling Xbox Live Indie Games has two new leaders: The Impossible Game and Soul. Have you played them? Are they good? Do let us know! We won't laugh.

A couple of familiar faces from the Gears of War series are set to star in the next Lost Planet game.
That's judging by a trailer shown at a Capcom event in Japan, as seen by Kotaku.
Both Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago made an appearance in the trailer. Word is they will be exclusive downloadable characters for the Xbox 360 version of the game, and they won't play any role in the story mode.
Last night, Epic's Cliff Bleszinksi Twittered that some "kick ass news" was coming "very soon" - could this be what he was on about? Probably.

Remember that Xbox 360 game announcement Capcom promised this week? Well it's a port of PC MMO, Monster Hunter: Frontier Online. Sorry.
The 2007 online game will be released on Xbox 360 this summer in Japan, says Capcom, with a closed beta test planned to kick off in May.
Xbox Live Gold members will need to pay 1,400 Yen (£9.60) a month after picking the game up, and there are early plans to have PC players able to play alongside their console brethren.
There's no word on a Western release yet but we're about to pick up the blower.
UPDATE: Capcom gave CVG the following statement: "Monster Hunter Frontier is an online multiplayer action RPG currently only available in Japan and other Asian territories. Originally released in 2007 for the PC, it has now been confirmed that Monster Hunter Frontier will be released in Japan on the Xbox 360. As yet the title has not been confirmed for release in Europe or North America."
