The Industry Corporation announces its inaugural Xbox 360 game Partyboat, the brainchild of two young entrepreneurs who started the project from their parents' homes, and managed it into a 90+ person production.
Partyboat is... a party on a boat! In what the developers describe as “Love Boat meets Family Guy meets Sim Tower,” the player takes on the persona of The Skipper, a retired womanizer who must sail, manage, design, gamble, hire, fire, and event coordinate his way from a sailboat to a cruise ship. Partyboat is a comedy-bound sandbox simulator, loaded with a crazy cast of characters, retro atmosphere, original gameplay, and of course – casinos, showtunes, and sloppy-drunk passengers. It's presented as a unique blend of 2D animation, 3D renders, and live action. With lots of hilarious dialogue and over 80 minutes of music, the game is a big product in a tiny package; it sells for US $5.

Their way of life is under threat. They are a peace loving tribe at one with nature who just want to be left alone. Preservationists in a world ravaged by rampant industrialization, they are the Freemen, the second of the four factions from the innovative turn-based strategy game Greed Corp from W!Games, releasing on PlayStation®Network, Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® and PC in early 2010.
Unique among the four factions of Greed Corp in their anti-industrialization and their harmonious relationship with the land, the Freemen have a tribal structure and are led by individual tribe leaders. The constant fighting over natural resources which are worth nothing in terms of quality of life, and yet worth so much to their enemies, has made them targets. Their land is wanted. The harvesters are coming.
Dragged into a war they do not want in order to defend their land and independence, the Freemen must resort to the same methods as their enemies in order to survive.
Introduced in Greed Corp's 24 map Campaign mode, along with the other three feuding factions known as The Empire, The Pirates and The Cartel, the usually tranquil Freemen are being compressed to leave their rich land. The Freemen know that where there are resources, there is trouble.
Again the Freemen are drawn into conflict to protect their land and way of life. Sometimes there truly can be no peace without war.

Microsoft's taken steps to appeal to the casual crowd, sure. The first was NXE, which brought us all things like Avatars and Netflix, with subsequent updates adding Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm. These are experiences meant to broaden the appeal of the Xbox 360 to casual gamers, a group that Microsoft spokesperson David Dennis told GI.biz is pretty tricky to hook.
Project Natal will play a big part in Microsoft's continuing goal to interest more casual players, Dennis said. He compared the interactive, controller-less experience to having the broad appeal of a title like Wii Fit -- something Dennis calls "an experience done right" that goes beyond the core yet still manages to "capture the imagination of the core." It's this dual-catering that Dennis thinks Natal excel at, as he predicts the hardware will enable experiences that the core will look forward to, as well as "casual game experiences that are easy to jump in and play."
In the interim, we offer Microsoft this ProTip for appealing to more casual players: Make more games with "Party" in the title. Who doesn't like a party?

It was a slow rollout today, but the promised Zune HD Twitter app is now live in Marketplace. We've been playing with it a little since we got it, and while it's definitely one of the more attractive mobile Twitter clients we've come across, it's also distressingly laggy: it's stalled out several times just scrolling a list of tweets, button presses go ignored, and refreshing data seems to cause all sorts of consternation -- it's cause our Zune to drop its WiFi connection several times. Not sure what's going on with that, but we've definitely seen some far more polished apps running on the Zune, so we're hoping these glitches get cleaned up soon.

The next instalment in the Mega Man series will be released on multiple platforms.
That's according to Famitsu magazine (as translated by Kotaku).
The game was first announced last week in Nintendo Power magazine, leading to speculation it would only be available for the Wii. However, Famitsu reports it will be on PSN and Xbox Live too.
Expect eight 2D platform levels, eight bosses and the option to play as Proto Man from the start. No word on a release date as yet.

Promotions see entry-level Xbox 360 Arcade cut to £109.99 at GAME and HMV
With the clock ticking on the rapid approach to Christmas retailers are stepping up their efforts to capture as much consumer spend as they can before the festive spend dries up – and Xbox 360 hardware is the latest to get the discount treatment.
Both GAME and HMV are currently offering the entry-level Xbox 360 Arcade SKU for just £109.99 – a massive £50 less than the £159.99 RRP.
The Arcade SKU comes bundled with a console, one wireless joypad and a one-month Gold subscription to Xbox Live. It doesn’t include a hard drive or a memory card as modern Arcade consoles have 256MB of in-built RAM.
A similar deal at rival Argos is currently offering an Xbox 360 Arcade, FIFA 10 and Forza 3 for £139.99. The same retailer is currently selling black DS Lite’s for just £79.99.
Elsewhere on the High Street, GAME has launched a new £4.99 offer on a number of pre-owned titles including Quantum of Solace, PES 2009, Devil May Cry 4, No more Heroes, Mirror’s Edge, Virtua Fighter 5 and Unreal Tournament 3.

There are some things that make locations really look authentic. Local architecture, for instance. Trees and Plants. And, of course, animals: Venice/Italy wouldn’t be the same without being overcrowded by kazillions of startled pigeons that are running around just everywhere in this city.
The same goes for the virtual Venice of dtp entertainment’s and Deck 13’s upcoming cinematic RPG Venetica: For making the fantastic scenario come to life, the development team of the game included pigeons that act like in the real city.
Today, publisher dtp entertainment releases the fourth episode of a making of video series. This one shows concept artist Felix Haas explaining how Deck 13 managed to get the birds into game.
Felix also provides new insights on the Venetian roofs, which are one of the several levels of the game world: As Venetica fans might already know, heroine Scarlett not only walks the streets and swims the canals, but also has to survive a lot of adventures on the skyline of the city.
Venetica is a cinematic RPG with an extraordinary and deep story. The game mixes emotion and action in spectacular ways.
A unique and living world full of surprises is waiting for the player, set in a fantastical 16th century Venice and paired with intuitive and easy to learn gameplay.
Venetica offers movie like cameras, subtly used cut scenes and spectacular images on a marvelous trip through a unique game world that is hard to match in the genre.
Venetica, developed by Deck 13, will be released in early 2010 for PC and Xbox 360®.

EA "wouldn't have done" the now-infamous Modern Warfare 2 airport scene, a Montreal producer has told CVG.
Speaking in our just-published Army of Two: 40th Day interview, the game's producer, Matt Turner said he feels Infinity Ward took the scene "a little too far", though he respects the developer for being "gutsy".
"We wouldn't have done it, we didn't do it," he told CVG. "For me personally I think the alarm bells went off in a big way on that one because it was out of context. When the footage got leaked thousands upon thousands of people saw it on a clip not knowing what it was.
"I'm not saying they were overreacting but people were generating these pretty outlandish opinions even though they didn't know what the scene meant in the grand scheme of the game," he added.

Nic H tells us that this is how his Xbox was returned after being sent to Nurse Microsoft. If that's really true, then it looks like Microsoft is getting brutal on Xboxes that dare get an RRoD.
Geez. What the hell is Microsoft using to punish misbehaving Xboxes? This thing looks worse than the one attacked by a crazy chick and a golf club. But we're certain that if Nic contacts Microsoft and shows them these photos of his naughty Xbox, they're sure to send him a replacement. Possibly even one that works. (Provided, of course, that this damage wasn't caused by Nic when he got the unit back, unrepaired, or by yet another nutty girlfriend.)

Now that the exploding men and unrelenting rain of crates have been taken care of, it would seem a new issue has arisen in Modern Warfare 2. Specifically, a bug in the Xbox Live matchmaking assignments is reportedly dumping playlist searchers into private matches. (Nothing's worse than being teamed with the lowest ranking players, after all.)
Penny Arcade's Gabe tweeted (warning: foul language through link) that he had encountered the issue several times. Meanwhile, Infinity Ward's man in the trenches, Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling, confirmed the issue is known and that a fix is currently in the works.

Deadliest Warrior, the television show that scientifically matches up history's greatest fighting techniques, is being turned into a game.
Deadliest Warrior: The Game was announced during a video reel at the Spike Video Game Awards 2009.
The clip showed a knight squaring up to a ninja in a forest, each using their relative styles of attack before the video asked, "Who is deadliest?" The knight did have a shuriken thrown in his eye during the confrontation. That probably would have stopped us.
Deadliest Warrior: The Game will be released as a downloadable title in 2010. No platforms were mentioned.
Spike TV makes Deadliest Warrior and the show will return for a second series - find out more on the official website. Not to be confused with Deadliest Catch, which is a show about fishing crabs.
