Sky is committed to putting its content on Xbox, but has now ruled out selling its hardware.
Earlier today we reported on industry rumours that Microsoft had plans to sell Xbox Ones with Sky subscriptions - which in theory would help it sell the next-gen console at a reduced initial price.
Xbox originally declined to comment when we asked, but Sky has now rebuffed the report.
However Sky is still keen to keep putting its content out via Xbox Live, as it has done since 2009.
A Sky spokesperson commented: “We have no plans to sell Xbox hardware as part of a Sky subscription.
"We have a longstanding partnership with Microsoft by which we distribute our content via Sky Go and NOW TV on Xbox.
"We look forward to continuing to work with them as part of our commitment to giving our customers more ways to watch Sky programming in addition to their Sky+ HD box. ”

Xbox has tonight made a decisive move to calm the many questions asked about its new next-gen console Xbox One.
Tonight, it has reiterated that Xbox One introduces new licensing mechanisms for games, and that this impacts how the second hand market works.
But the firm says it IS NOT "charging a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games"
However it IS allowing publishers to charge a 'second user fee' if they wish.
Yet gamers CAN lend their games to friends without forcing them to buy it again.
Elsewhere, it has published a further guide about what the 'always-on' component to Xbox One means, and that players WILL have to connect their console to the web every 24 hours.
Another guide also talks about Kinect, and moves to calm fears about the device spying on people while in standby mode.
The device will ONLY be looking to hear one phrase 'Xbox On' when in sleep mode, and nothing else.
Microsoft also says the settings for these functions can be personalised and tweaked.
You can read the three guides here:
How Games Licensing Works on Xbox One
Xbox One: A Modern, Connected System
How Xbox One and the new Kinect Sensor Put You in Control

Xbox One owners look unlikely to face any fees for buying or selling used games on Xbox One.
That seems to be the message in a new set of statements issued by Microsoft tonight.
“Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit,” it reads. “We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.”
Is there an element of ambiguity there? “... so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers.” Does that mean they can choose not to enable it? Do they have an opt-in or opt-out with Microsoft? And participating retailers – does that mean those signed up to Microsoft's cloud licence service? Or any store that sells pre-owned?
There's more.
“Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends,” it adds. “There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.”
So, you can give games away once? And there will be no fee if giving to someone who has been on your Friends List for a month. And if they haven't?
Microsoft also says that anyone can play any game installed on any machine and up to ten members of a family can share access to a single games library. Players will also be able to play games they own from another Xbox One console provided the log in and download the software. Furthermore, this can occur with one other family member still playing the same game on the parent machine.
It seems we're getting there. But we're not there quite yet. And with Microsoft cancelling their meeting with vast swathes of the press at E3, who knows when we'll have the full answers.
What has been more or less cleared up are the machine's online requirements.
“With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library,” Microsoft says. “Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.”
Microsoft has also confirmed that users will have full control over what Kinect can track, when it can track and what – if any – data is sent back to Microsoft.

Diablo III is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 on September 3, Blizzard has confirmed. It has been ported with “gamepad-driven action” in mind, says Blizzard, with a dynamic camera and a new user interface. Up to four players will be able to participate in local or online multiplayer, and Blizzard also outlined incentives for those that pre-order, with some special edition packages headed to retail.“In addition to the fine-tuning we’ve done for the console versions, we’re also including major content and design updates we’ve made to the PC version over the past year,” said CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Mike Morhaime.

This story from Forbes touches on Steve Ballmer's announcement that Microsoft will reorganize. From the article, 'Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer appears to be planning a major reorganization. His apparent objective is to help the company move toward becoming a "devices and services company," as presented in the company's annual shareholder letter last October.' What follows is an analysis of the current state of Microsoft's current ventures: shrinking PC sales, Nokia management calling for a change of course, Office 360 lagging, a $1 Billion investment in Nook, the losses on Xbox. Once again, if Microsoft starts to lose the revenue of Windows and Office, how long does the boat float? And what of the suggestion, on the verge of another update in the Xbox console, that Microsoft should sell the Xbox division?"

Multiplayer-centric title to make extensive use of cloud technology
Respawn’ Entertainment’s debut game will be called Titanfall and is exclusive to Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
According to a leaked Game Informer cover on Google Play, as spotted on NeoGaf, the title is said to a “bold vision” for next-gen multiplayer, and will take place in a sci-fi setting featuring giant robots. It was claimed the title will feature extensive use of cloud technology.
An Xbox 360 version of the title is said to be in development at another studio.
The game is expected to be on show at next week’s E3 show.
The Xbox console exclusivity follows a similar report in April which also claimed Respawn’s first game would not be released on PS4 or the Wii U. It was also claimed the game would be built on a modified version of the Source engine.

Microsoft is on the hunt for exclusive entertainment content for Xbox One.
Deadline reports that CEO Steve Ballmer and entertainment studios president Nancy Tellem have been doing the rounds in Hollywood in an effort to bolster ties with key content makers.
Talks have supposedly taken place with CBS, Sony TV and WME, amongst others “to reiterate Microsoft’s commitment to transitioning its business to devices and services and to explaining that Hollywood entertainment is a big part of that – Microsoft in the past has just dipped a toe but now has a real commitment.”
The sales patter, supposedly, claims that the company wants to “merge the story-telling magic of TV with the interactive power of the Xbox One”.

The UK Xbox Live Arcade charts are in. And in the least shocking news of the day – Minecraft is No.1.
It's always No.1.
That's not true, actually. There was this one time a few weeks ago when Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (this week No.5) was No.1. It was bloody exciting. We were able to run a different picture and everything.
But Minecraft is back at the top. A position it has held 20 times this year. And has largely been at the top since it was released over a year ago. And hats off to it. The game was developed between series creator Mojang and UK studio 4J.
A boxed version of the game comes to retail this month. I'm not here to do your job for you, but, maybe you should consider stocking a copy or two.
The UK Xbox Live Arcade Top Ten (week ending June 2nd) are:
1. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
2. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
3. Terraria: Xbox 360 Edition
4. Trials Evolution
5. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
6. Castlestorm
7. BattleBlock Theater
8. The Walking Dead
9. Castle Crasher
10. Worms 2: Armageddon

Activision will serve up a first look at Call of Duty: Ghosts gameplay during a dedicated webcast this Sunday.
The firm has revealed plans to broadcast a live, 30-minute webcast that will feature "an exclusive first look at gameplay levels from the title."The publisher also promises "behind the scenes footage, interviews with the Infinity Ward team and more".
The show starts June 9 at 11am Pacific (2pm Eastern, 7pm UK), and will be viewable via the official Call of Duty site, alongside "additional broadcast outlets".
Call of Duty: Ghosts gameplay has only been briefly glimpsed in videos released for the title so far, which have otherwise focused on art assets and developer diary footage.
The game was unveiled at Microsoft's Xbox One reveal event, where the platform holder confirmed the continuation of its timed-exclusivity deal with Activision on Xbox One, which sees DLC content released for Call of Duty games arrive on the Xbox console before other platforms.
We expect to see a lot more of Activision's flagship shooter during E3 next week.

You can be certain of one thing – Xbox and Sony execs won’t be able to hide from the pre-owned question at E3 next week.
Having already successfully elevated the question to the forefront of the games industry last week, the NeoGaf-based organisers behind the #PS4NoDRM are planning a second push starting tomorrow and running through the LA trade show.
They will also be pressing home the new #XBOXONENoDRM hashtag. Both the PS4 and Xbox Onecampaigns now have their own dedicated websites.
It’s amazing to think that after the sustained pressure Microsoft had to endure about pre-owned game in the wake of the Xbox One reveal the world still doesn’t know what the company has planned.
Sony, too, has survived a second wave of questioning – althought it has very much been giving out positive signals.
The question is, will we actually be any the wiser after E3? That probably depends on what strategies the platform holders are planning.
If the answer is “no, neither machine will limit pre-owned games” then yes, we will likely hear the big news on the LA stage. In the more likely event that the answer is “no, neither machine will limit pre-owned games unless publishers choose to implement them” then we can perhaps expect a further period of silence.
The impressive thing about the #NoDRM campaign is that it not only proves that consumer power is still very much a real thing, but it also highlights a worrying trend on modern games PR – the belief that refusing to answer a question will eventually make it go away.
In this modern world of interconnected social media, it’s a strategy that seems embarrassingly out of date.

Undead Labs' zombie game State of Decay is set to launch on Xbox Live June 5 for 1,600 MS Points ($20). The news comes via Major Nelson on Twitter, with Undead Labs confirming the date on its blog. No word on a date for the PC port yet.
Undead Labs announced it was working on a zombie MMO in 2009. In early 2011, the company revealed a title codenamed Class3, which was positioned as an open-world zombie game targeting XBLA that would serve as a precursor to its announced MMO. In 2012, Undead Labs re-branded the downloadable game as State of Decay, which still retains its focus on survival mechanics in an open-world environment.

Microsoft's Xbox spokesman Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb is giving fans a chance to take a very early hands-on look at the Xbox One's new gamepad next week. On Monday June 10th, just a day before the official kickoff of E3, Hryb is taking to Microsoft's Century City company store and allotting a solid 90 minutes for controller touching, as well as ogling of the new box and its always-on Kinect.
As the event is both free and full of loosed next-gen hardware, Hryb suggests showing up well ahead of time -- we'll be on-hand, snapping your picture and distributing high fives. He also teases, "one or two other surprises" as well, which we're hoping isn't a free Kin for every person who gets in.

Countering comments from Nomura Equity Research, other analysts tell us that selling off the Xbox business would be "beyond stupid"
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Rumors have pointed to Microsoft evaluating a majorrestructuring of the company, and along with the report came interesting commentary from Nomura Equity Research analyst Rick Sherlund who said that Microsoft should sell off its Xbox division. Just how likely is this scenario, and does it even make sense?
Certainly not now, not right before the company is looking to launch the Xbox One, independent analyst Billy Pidgeon told GamesIndustry International. "I don't think this scenario is likely at all. I can't see the upside of a deal like that for Microsoft or for a potential buyer at any time, but particularly before the Xbox One launch such a move would be beyond stupid," he said.
Wedbush Securities' Michael Pachter doesn't think it's quite as ludicrous, but he doesn't see a great advantage to spinning off Xbox either. "I don't think there are many synergies with the core enterprise software business at Microsoft, so I see little benefit in their being combined and little detriment if they were to split up. There is synergy with Skype, so as long as those were packaged together, I think Xbox would be fine as a standalone company," he said.
Microsoft is sort of caught in a tough spot between brand perception and financial reality. As a brand, Xbox is actually very helpful to the company. It's not very helpful for Microsoft's bottom line, however.
"It is simply too unwieldy to try and sell an entire game system hardware and software business...they would have trouble coming to terms with a potential buyer and more likely just exit the game business entirely"
David Cole
"I think the Xbox division would probably get a better valuation by itself than it is in the current conglomerate form of Microsoft as Xbox is outgrowing the sluggish Office and Windows divisions. That being said, I think it is very unlikely that Microsoft would spin it off. The idea that another company like Samsung would acquire that spun off Xbox division is even less likely. Xbox is the only thing that has investors excited about Microsoft, so it makes little sense to divest of the division," explained Asif A. Khan, CFO of Virtue LLC.
"There have been a number of calls for Microsoft to break itself up over the years, and so far they are still the giant tech behemoth that has languished below $40/share since the tech wreck of 2000. While I agree with Rick Sherlund that Xbox will most likely never materially effect Microsoft's earnings, it provides an intangible positive sentiment around the company. This goodwill should not be discounted as immaterial, and I sincerely doubt Microsoft will take the innovative Xbox division for granted."
While some investors may like the idea of spinning off Xbox, at this point Microsoft is just too committed, noted DFC Intelligence's David Cole. In fact, Cole thinks Microsoft would be better off just exiting the games business than to try and sell the Xbox division.
"Microsoft's forays into more consumer oriented products have generally been seen as a drag on the rest of its business. The Xbox has been a success from a consumer perspective but not so much financially. Now Microsoft has to start from scratch with a new game system that could be a drag on earnings. Meanwhile other Microsoft consumer forays have not done as well as Xbox," he said.
"I think the possibility of them selling to another company is unlikely. It is simply too unwieldy to try and sell an entire game system hardware and software business. My thought is they would have trouble coming to terms with a potential buyer and more likely just exit the game business entirely. But I don't see that happening anytime soon assuming they go ahead and launch the Xbox One. I think they are committed for at least the next few years."
There is an alternative scenario, however, which could satisfy investors and benefit Microsoft. Microsoft could essentially establish a new Xbox subsidiary, Khan said.
"One thing Microsoft could do is spin off the Xbox division as a subsidiary, akin to Dan Loeb's proposal for Sony Entertainment. This would allow the market and investors to value Xbox separately from Microsoft. Microsoft would not divest the Xbox division in this scenario, and would benefit from the potential capital appreciation of Xbox being a separately traded subsidiary. An example of this in the technology sector today is EMC's stake in VMWare. EMC owns 80 percent of VMWare, but both EMC and VMWare trade on their own in the public markets. Microsoft definitely has some options when it comes to their corporate structure, but the idea of completely divesting of the Xbox division or selling it to a competitor seem like the last two things they should consider."

Bill of materials for new hardware $275 - $325; subsidised Xbox One likely
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
[h=3]Sony Computer Entertainment[/h]Sony Computer Entertainment is a Japanese videogame company specialising in a variety of areas in the...
playstation.com
Investment firm Wedbush Morgan has suggested the PlayStation 4 will retail in the US for $349, significantly lower than the PS3's starting price of $599.
In an E3 preview note to investors Michael Pachter, analyst at the company, estimates that the PlayStation 4 has a bill of materials at around $275, while Microsoft's Xbox One costs around $325. As such, Wedbush is expecting the new Microsoft console to cost $399.
"If the Wii U's popularity does not improve by the end of the year, many third-party publishers may pass on producing games for the console"
But while Microsoft's new hardware may be priced higher initially, it's also more likely to be available at a subsidised price to the consumer through a subscription contract from a broadcast, cable or ISP provider.
"We believe the ability to watch live TV from a cable, telco, or satellite set-top box through Xbox One could entice an MSO to drive subscriptions through a subsidised box in exchange for a multi-year contract. The 'always connected' requirement for the Xbox One likely means that a broadband connection will be required, suggesting to us that ISPs may have an incentive to offer a subsidy as well.
"In addition, Microsoft could conceivably subsidise the Xbox One through prepaid Xbox Live Gold subscriptions (as it has done on a limited basis in the past) or premium Skype functionality as well. Similarly, Sony could subsidise the PS4 through prepaid PlayStation Network subscriptions, but unlike Microsoft, it does not have a history of doing so," he added.
Looking at Nintendo, Pachter suggested the company needs to prove to consumers at E3 that it has an enviable line-up of titles for the rest of the year.
"Nintendo risks losing additional share to its console competitors if the quality and volume of content available for Wii U does not pick up markedly in the near-term.
"In addition, if the Wii U's popularity does not improve by the end of the year, many third-party publishers may pass on producing games for the console. We note that EA recently announced that it had no Wii U games in development, and it remains a possibility that the publisher will abandon the platform entirely. Should other third parties follow EA's lead, the Wii U could be relegated to a first party only platform."
While all eyes will be on the new console generation, Wedbush Morgan is also expecting a round of price cuts on the current generation technology. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are likely to have another $50 shaved off their prices, with the Wii dropping to $99. As well as a Vita price cut from Sony, there's also the possibility that Nintendo will try and boost Wii U sales with a $50 price cut or new software bundle.

With every generation of consoles, there comes a time when the price of a new box is cheap enough, and used machines are plentiful enough, that console hackers pull out all the stops before the next generation arrives. For the Xbox 360, that time is now, and with no PS1-like hardware revision on the horizon, it looks like [jhax01]‘s custom Xbox 360 laptop might be the smallest Xbox casemod we’ll see for a very long time.
[jhax01] was inspired by the work of [Yung Jeezus] and [AllYourXboxNeeds]‘ YouTube channels and decided to craft his own custom enclosure for an Xbox
