Durango will use development tools and APIs similar to those for Windows 8
The next Xbox will be officially unveiled on May 21st, according to a report.
In a What The Tech podcast, as transcribed byAllGamesBeta, technology blogger Paul Thurrott said that although the console had been set for an April 24th reveal, Microsoft had now moved the unveiling to the following month.
As well as seemingly revealing the date of the reveal, Thurrott also claimed the next Xbox would be priced at $500. He also claimed there would be a $300 subscription-based model of the hardware.
Thurrott also said that documents he had previously received stated the Xbox must always be connected to the internet to use. The statement further fuels previous speculation from a number of sources that the next Xbox will indeed require always-online functionality.
The tech blogger stated that Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox would launch in early November, close to the PS4’s “holiday” release.

Console giant to dedicate all of its TV resources to make console the 'premium entertainment service'
Microsoft has sold off its TV streaming business Mediaroom to Ericsson as it looks to expand and go all in Xbox TV.
Revealing the news in a blog post, Microsoft Interactive Entertainment exec Yusuf Mehdi said the sale meant the console giant could dedicated all of its TV resources to Xbox as it looks to make the console the “premium entertainment service” for consumers.
Mehdi added that Microsoft would be partnering with a number of content creators, studios, labels, networks, content aggregators, operators and distributors to deliver the next wave of games and consumer entertainment.
"We are proud of the world-class engineering and business achievements within Mediaroom,” he said.
“They have a rich history of driving innovation in IPTV. As early pioneers, they built the infrastructure to stream video on limited bandwidth, and today they enable multiscreen entertainment experiences for pay TV subscribers. Mediaroom has contributed to the evolution of TV and powers 22 million set-top boxes today in 11 million subscriber households.

Darkstalkers Resurrection will receive a new "Fight Request" feature via an April 12 patch, according to Shoryuken's translation of an update to the official Japanese website. Fight Requests, also found in Super Street Fighter 4 (among other games) allow players to queue up for online matches while practicing in offline modes, such as Arcade and Training.
The update also fixes various online matchmaking bugs, voice chat errors and in-game glitches, the full list of which can be found here, if you're into that sort of thing. For most people, however, the game will remain broadly unchanged.

Since the end of last year, many rumors suggest the imminent arrival of a new Xbox since the cycle of the Xbox 360 began to be long, the machine is down technique compared to PC games and that a renewal of the park could reboost market. unsheathed first Nintendo console with WiiU that wants as powerful as Xbox 360 or PS3 but the Japanese firm licenses are still very strong and they will finally receive high definition. Although the results are mixed first sales, Nintendo remains a serious competitor for the Xbox 360. Given that the latter was the first to arrive on the market every reason to believe that Microsoft would be the first to switch to the true next-generation consoles, but Sony finally faked everyone by announcing on February 20 output Playstation 4 for the end of 2013. Who would have thought a few months ago that Sony would offer this year the PS4 when the PS3 came well after his rival? Even Microsoft could not imagine such a scenario with a PS4 technically very sharp, very enthusiastic developers work on independent and pampered but more importantly, this new console will disembark for Christmas 2013, Christmas MS could see her out alone for Xbox "Loop" and make a shopping carnage ... What are the choices the team after Xbox this ad? Is forecasts techniques considered for the new Xbox are sufficient to provide a return equivalent to the PS4? Is the right choice to impose a permanent connection to use the console? But ultimately the biggest question to ask, is it safe to release a new console at the same time as another? The industry has never experienced such a situation to see land on the market two new consoles! economic situation is difficult for most consumers, it would usher in a costly war on communication to demonstrate the capabilities of the console compared to her rival. The loser of this battle could suffer financial losses and poor brand image over several months or years ... Another problem for Microsoft, if indeed the Xbox "Loop" is launched along with the PS4, it takes good arguments to highlight. Besides the interface, services or the physical machine, the major advantage to stand out in the eyes of consumers, are the exclusive games! If MS is dragging its feet to present its console, it may be that the firm studios are not willing to leave good games to entice players to buy the Xbox "Loop" and if that is the case, Sony win this battle hands down. Consequently, the great strategists Microsoft probably arise the question, is it better to get the new Xbox in 2014 and being alone with the analysis of the launch of the PS4 to final adjustments? The spring could be ideal since the number of games released other media would be low and it would be easier to conduct a marketing campaign effective in this peak period without taking too much delay. eventuality is quite possible in the sense that Xbox 360 will receive licenses for the big end of the year 2013 such as Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Watch Dogs or Fifa 14. While these games are not gen but they can quite simply the most of the 70 million Xbox 360 owners still reluctant to invest in a new machine. Whilst every reason to believe that the new Xbox arrive in 2013, several signs that an output in 2014 could finally agree to Microsoft by leveraging the existing fleet to finish the year, especially the Xbox 360 continues to lead sales in the U.S. market for example. And finally remember, there has never been a launch of two new consoles in the same period ... What do you think of this probability?

Company says creative director's personal views don't reflect its approach, refuses to say if next console will require constant online connection
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Yesterday, Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth took to Twitter in response to outcry over reports that the next Xbox would require a constant online connection.
"Sorry, I don't get the drama around having an 'always on' console," he tweeted. "Every device is now 'always on.' That's the world we live in. #dealwithit"
He followed that up by apparently mocking people who would make purchasing decisions based on an always-online connection, saying, "The mobile reception in the area I live in is spotty and unreliable. I will not buy a mobile phone," and, "Sometimes the electricity goes out. I will not purchase a vacuum cleaner."
Message boards and blogs jumped on the comments, and Orth then set his profile to protected, preventing the general public from being able to read his tweets. That apparently wasn't enough to tamp down anger over the incident, as Microsoft todayreleased an official statement on the matter through the blog of Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.
"We apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday," the company said. "This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers. We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."
The apology apparently hasn't done much to address customer concerns. Minutes after posting, the comments section on that statement already sported dozens of posts from people wondering why the company hasn't shot down the reports of an "always online" requirement for the next Xbox.

Atari founder and video games veteran Nolan Bushnell has said he believes Microsoft will emerge victorious in the next-gen console war.
"Microsoft, because of their strong software tools, will end up with much better products sooner and easier, in my estimation," Bushnell said on GameTrailers show Rollin' With Nolan, as reported by GameSpot.
"And with that, I think will be an advantage. And also don't forget, Microsoft actually has so much money to defend this. Plus, they have a good infrastructure with the [Xbox Live Arcade], with their online world.
"I personally believe Microsoft is in a superior position, and the reason is Sony, whenever they change consoles, the software tools that they have are lame. A lot of times in the past they were in Japanese; not well documented and getting the software development community up to speed… they may have been able to do it in Japan, but the American software community just says 'Oh boy, what a pain'. And a lot of people don't realize how strong the software community is at making the hardware platform sing and dance."
He added that Sony"really needs to get their action together" to fix its "god awful" online infrastructure”.
The comments, of course, fly in the face of everything that not only Sony has told us, but also the legions of developers that Sony has worked closely with throughout the entire PS4 R&D process.

The second Call of Duty: Black Ops II DLC, Uprising, has been confirmed for an April 16th timed-exclusive launch on Xbox 360.
The content will add four new multiplayer maps and a Zombies adventure entitled “Mob of the Dead.” Everything from the promo image leak earlier this week stands up, but there’s some new info packed with the official reveal as well.
Activision says "Mob of the Dead" will feature the voice acting talent of Ray Liotta, Chazz Palminteri, Joe Pantoliano and Michael Madsen. The four will play prohibition-era mobsters attempting to break out of Alcatraz – only to confront a whole bunch of undead.
The new Zombies campaign also adds a new feature called "Purgatory," which sends players killed by zombies into the afterlife.
“[Uprising is] the most fan-centric DLC package we've ever created,” Black Ops II game design director David Vonderhaar said.
Uprising will be available for 1200 MS Points ($15), or as part of the Call of Duty: Black Ops II season pass. Versions for “other platforms,” as in PC and PS3, are to arrive sometime after the Xbox 360 launch.

Reports claim the Xbox 720 may use an ‘always-on’ connection to prevent players from using second-hand games – and it’s not sitting well with the High Street.
We spoke to several retailers – both national and independent – to find out what impact the rumoured technology would have on their business and sales of the console itself.
Christopher Rogers
Category Manager – Games, Dixons Retail
A console that blocks pre-owned titles would have no impact on our business as we do not sell trade in games.
Having said that, I do not think the UK broadband infrastructure is robust/fast enough for this to be a prerequisite.
Surely last month’s teething troubles with SimCity are a warning for this?
Don McCabe
Joint MD, CHIPS
It would seem Microsoft is building in elements that could be used positively: games updated automatically, reduced load times, reduced piracy.
On the plus side, optical discs will be used for distribution so retail will still have a part to play. However, if elements are used to block second-hand and force gamers to pay more overall to play then this is a negative. ‘Always-on’ can work well for those who have that facility but even in the UK we still have a lot of customers who don’t have a broadband connection.
It could be that Microsoft has decided that customers who buy second-hand and are not connected are not profitable customers, and it would be more profitable to have a much smaller market with users who are willing to pay for entertainment and who spend constantly online.
Block second-hand and force a constant connection and the market will shrink rapidly, but Microsoft will still make a profit. As for the rest of us, tough titty.

The second map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 looks like it's called Uprising and will add another five maps to the game - including a Zombies map set on Alcatraz!
Leaked artwork flaunted a 16th April release date for Uprising on Xbox Live. A timed exclusivity deal means Uprising will release later on PC and PS3.Uprising contains new maps Magma, Encore, Vertigo and Studio - the latter being a re-make of Black Ops 1 favourite Firing Range. The Alcatraz Zombies map is Mob of the Dead.Uprising's Xbox.com product listing has also been spotted (thanks, CharlieIntel). It promised "top Hollywood talent" for Mob of the Dead. More famous people as playable characters? Black Ops 1's horror-stuffed Call of the Dead map featured virtual versions of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Danny Trejo, among others.

Social components will be the defining difference between current and next-gen consoles, says Yannis Mallat
The next Xbox will be aligned with similar specifications and features to Sony’s PS4, Ubisoft CEO Yannis Mallat has said.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Mallat said that the new Xbox, codenamed Durango, would be more social and connected than the Xbox 360, although did not state whether this would mean the ‘always-online’ functionality that has been heavily speculated.
"It's going to be connected. It's going to be social. It's going to be immersive. It's going to be interactive," he said.
In a broader statement on new consoles, Mallat said the most obvious difference between current and next-gen titles would be the graphics, but that it was the new social integration and features that would define the generation.
"Let's state the obvious: the easy and immediate thing is going to be the graphics," he said.

Well, I spent my entire Saturday afternoon working on Cxbx for one request (now do you know how much I love you guys?) and finally got a result worth posting.
Okay, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that it's finally confirmed that Cxbx is capable of emulating Sega Chihiro games. Good thing, because it's a load off of my mind. The mystery was killing me! The bad news is that there are some parts of the JVS I/O board may have to be emulated in order for games to work. Instead of emulating the JVS, I've been skipping and ignoring the port mapped I/O access functions as well as just creating stubs for the hijacked JVS functions.
Although I'm very pleased to have reached this far with Virtua Cop 3, I'll have to further research Chihiro's JVS hardware. There's a chance that we may not have to emulate it though, since JayFoxRox's emu managed to get passed this. It's probably a matter of satisfying a few conditions.
I'll put more work/thought into this later. It's passed 1AM and I'm tired. I'm just glad it's showing something for the time being.
Shogun.

NCAA Football 14 will feature the same physics engine seen in Madden 13, the Infinity Engine. EA Tiburon is calling the engine the "Infinity Engine 2" specifically, which certainly drives the point home about its expected improvements. The developer told Polygon that the engine will be tuned to the same level as its upcoming pro football game, Madden 25.
NCAA 14 will also include "ball carrier avoidance," which improves the AI of runners so they raise their arms to push off linemen instead of taking an awkward tackle in the backfield due to incidental content, as seen quite often with the current iteration of the Infinity Engine in Madden 13. EA Tiburon says other physics-based movements will see marked improvement with NCAA 14's Force Impact system. The Force Impact system is expected to lend more realism to the process of moves such as stiff arms, which will now be targeted to specific parts of a defender and carry out all the way to the ground.
Other changes to the game include the removal of the sprint button, which is now replaced with a more realistic speed burst when runners hit the hole in the defensive line. Additionally, ball-carriers will be able to use the right stick to regain any balance lost when breaking tackles. The changes to the running game start with better block targeting for offensive line AI, which EA says is a priority for the NCAA 14 team this year. The publisher will also reveal details about the game's own Ultimate Team mode in May, which is new to the NCAA Football series, but a mainstay in EA's other sports franchises.
NCAA Football 14 will launch on Xbox 360 and PS3 on July 9, and will feature former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson on its cover.

The controller used with Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox is nearly identical to the model that ships with Xbox 360.
That’s according to Kotaku, which has word from sources that both the new console and its controllers are currently in the hands of developers.
The only noticeable difference is said to be the size, with the new pads coming in slightly smaller than the existing model. Crucially, however, Microsoft isn’t adding any functionality – unlike Sony, of course, which amongst other things has added a touchpad to the new Dualshock.
Part of this undoubtedly will be down to the forced inclusion of Kinect, which Microsoft will presumably continue to press as an added input for gaming.
Interestingly, each device is covered with a zebra-like design that is understood to be individual to each unit – thus any leaked pictures can be tracked back to their owners.
Elsewhere online, GameStop boss Paul Raines told GamesIndustry that he is familiar with Microsoft’s machine.
"We've been spending a lot of time with Microsoft, but we have to let them take the lead on this, but it will be a very hot, compelling device,” he stated.
“They are doing some really cool stuff, and I'm eager to hear them start their announcements because I think the world is going to stand up and take notice."
MCV revealed yesterday that high-level gaming execs have, contrary to some reports, been briefed on the new console. But all are bound by some of the strictest NDAs ever agreed to.
