Open world title Phantom Pain coming to Xbox One
Kojima Productions has opened Microsoft’s E3 conference with a fresh new look at at Metal Gear Solid V.
Confirming the game as open world and to be released on Xbox One, the trailer evoked a similar feeling and setting to Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption, opening with a view of a vast desert with Snake riding a horse.
The trailer showed off a number features included in the next-gen MGS, such as various modes of transport, including a tank, as well as day and night cycles.
Characters starring in the latest Metal Gear include Snake, Skull Face, Ocelot and Code Talker.
The trailer also presented the same stunning graphics as shown off in previous videos of Metal Gear and the Phantom Pain, with the trailer finally offering confirmation that Metal Gear Solid V and The Phantom Pain are indeed the same title.

Microsoft said the game, Halo Combat, would take full advantage of the Xbox One's architecture and features, including cloud computing and dedicated servers.
It claimed the game would run at 60fps.
The news comes as Microsoft recently announced it would be expanding the Halo franchise to other platforms, with Halo: Spartan Assault coming to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, and a new live action TV series based on the IP.

Microsoft engineers on fear of facing another RROD nightmare with their new XBOX ONE console, have decided to slow the system down by up to 200Mhz to resolve any possible problems with its launch.
Two different anonymous sources claim Microsoft is still having design issues with their CPU/GPU combo and their cooling system, so instead of risking another RROD massive nightmare of returns early after the launch of the XB1, they have decided to take a quick-fix solution to the problem and slow down the system by 200Mhz.
Of course this is still a 'rumor' until confirmed by ripping apart actual consoles after it launches and testing the bus speed, etc. -- Also does this mean in the future if this 'rumor' turns to to be fact, that later models of XB1 will be faster after Microsoft solves the 'heat issue', or will they solve it before it launches this holiday season.

Just like the rumors of EA playing games with sites after SimCity launch, now a Reddit poster claims she has seen Microsoft employees doing massive 'reputation management' on social sites
A recent poster on Reddit by name of 'mistysilver' has created its own shitstorm of comments so much so that Reddit had to step in and remove her post, as she claimed that Microsoft employees are doing massive downvoting of negative XB1 comments, and voting up positive ones and making their own positive comments. -- These same rumors happen before with EA and their DRM-Locked SimCity!
BusinessInsider contacted Microsoft regarding this rumor and of course M$ claims they have no knowledge of it happening, but since this 'mistysilver' appeared Reddit ended up with their own shitstorm and as such had to remove her post and provided this update regarding the rumors:

Undead Labs' zombie survival simulator State of Decay sold "more than a quarter million copies" within the first two days of its availability on Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade platform, the developer announced on its official blog.
"The only game that ever sold more on XBLA this fast was Minecraft," the update reads. "We are not just riding on this train, however! We're never going to stop pushing to make the best games we can. If you're wondering what we're working on to make this game even better, please check out Jeff's Title Update post."
Said title update resolves several bugs and makes minor tweaks to various gameplay mechanics; it is expected to go live sometime next week.

Xbox One players will be able to access their full library of games on any Xbox One without the need for discs.
In an official brief issued today regarding the console's treatment of game licenses, Microsoft confirmed that all Xbox One games will be release simultaneously at retail and as a digital download."You'll be able to buy disc-based games at traditional retailers or online through Xbox Live, on day of release. Discs will continue to be a great way to install your games quickly," said the firm.
Ownership of a retail copy of a game will give you the rights to a digitally downloadable copy, allowing for access to your games on any console.
"After signing in and installing, you can play any of your games from any Xbox One because a digital copy of your game is stored on your console and in the cloud," says MS. "So, for example, while you are logged in at your friend's house, you can play your games."
Any of your games can be played by anyone on your console without the need for you to be logged in, while access to your games will also be shared by up to 10 members of your family on any Xbox One console.
As MS explains, "Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend's house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time."
Microsoft also today addressed the controversial topic of its used games policies, confirming that there'll be no fee for used game license transfers between friends, but games will only be transferable once.
It also confirmed full details of the console's requirement of an internet connection for mandatory online licensing checks at least once every 24 hours.

Serial entrepreneur says consumer backlash against Google Glass, Kinect tech won't matter if they're cool enough
Yesterday's revelation that the US government has been accessing central servers for a host of Internet giants and tracking individuals' chats, e-mails, documents and connection logs for surveillance purposes has sparked a new round of privacy concerns in tech circles. But where some consumers might be nervous about having Google Glass track their every movement and glance, or having an ever-vigilant, always-on Kinect in the living room, Nolan Bushnell told GamesIndustry International that any furor over the new pieces of tech is unlikely to hurt their prospects.
"Whenever I hear backlash, I say, 'Boy, that's going to be more successful than I thought it would be," Bushnell joked. "It's just the reality of the crazy world we live in."
"Whenever I hear backlash, I say, 'Boy, that's going to be more successful than I thought it would be"
Nolan Bushnell
While Bushnell was particularly interested in Google Glass and said the wearable tech will be "important," he didn't offer a prediction for how successful Xbox One would be, specifically. He did however address the decline of the console gaming market. Bushnell ruled out a second crash like the one in the early '80s, saying that one "was really suicide," a result of companies glutting stores with absurd amounts of software. While that upheaval was swift and catastrophic, Bushnell predicted a much slower decline for the current industry.
"I think that the idea of a closed system is going to be increasingly difficult in general," Bushnell said. "But systems die slowly."
While Bushnell said people will always want "the eight-foot experience" of playing games in a living room in front of the TV, he expects TV manufacturers to increasingly incorporate game-playing functionality into their sets. The jack-of-all-trades approach may leave the TVs at a disadvantage when it comes to horsepower, but Bushnell said he thinks it's much more likely that gamers will eventually buy dedicated upgrade cards to plug into their sets than spring for dedicated console hardware.
One controversial aspect of the next-generation consoles has been their emphasis on always-online experience and the ways they could be used to impose limitations on things like used games. For example, Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One will need to check in with the company's servers every 24 hours or lose the ability to play games, raising the possibility of a day where those servers are shut down and the system's entire catalogue becomes completely unplayable.
"I'm actually nervous about that a little bit," Bushnell said of how always-online trends would impact preservation of games. "I played games 30 years ago that I would like to be playing right now. Particularly since I have some quirky tastes and some of the stuff I really thought was important, not many other people did. So it sort of fell into the trash heap of society."
While Bushnell believes there are preservation efforts underway, he doesn't think the game companies themselves are doing much to preserve their works. It's an attitude he said was common even decades ago when he was still running Atari.
"With the coin-op game business, I wanted to keep one of every game we ever had," Bushnell said. "But the number of times various people said, 'Gee, why don't we get rid of these old things...'"
Bushnell's current focus is BrainRush, a serious game developer exploring ways of accelerating the learning process through games. Along those same lines, Bushnell is delivering a keynote address at The Serious Play Conference, set for August 20-22 at the DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond, Washington.

The Xbox One controller can be plugged in via a micro USB cable to preserve battery life, Microsoft has revealed.
Doing so will switch the pad's wireless radios off and send data down the wire instead, a new Xbox.com blog post described, which makes Microsoft's decision to still use batteries somewhat more excusable.Another improvement is the controller's new low power state, a battery-conserving mode that won't require you to re-sync your pad every time you leave it to become idle. The controller now uses invisible reflective technology and LEDs to pair the pad with the console and Kinect sensor, which will help track your position in a room. The data transfer rate between console and controller has also been improved, which will mean better headset audio quality.A lot of the other features mentioned in the report have already been touted by Microsoft - a redesigned d-pad, textured thumbsticks and a rumble function in the controller's triggers. Just the thing for watching TV.

June 7th, 2013, 11:33 Posted By: wraggster
Almost exactly a year ago, at the end of an E3 press conference in which Microsoft heralded fitness software, Kinect, Internet Explorer, Bing and dying action games as the future of entertainment, I wrote that anyone who has paid attention to Microsoft's business over the years should not be surprised by its apparent lack of self-awareness."If we are entertained by what Microsoft chooses to do for its own gain," I suggested, "then that is simply a happy coincidence."Guess what? The coincidence is over.
The fact that Microsoft's policies governing game ownership, sharing and privacy are not surprising does not make them any less devastating to consumer rights, should they be formally adopted and become a standard. They sacrifice our freedom to own and trade games for no other reason than corporate self-interest.To save you skimming large tracts of condescending prose about how much Microsoft loves and respects you as a human wallet, here is a summary: - You do not own the games you buy. You license them.
- Discs are only used to install and then license games and do not imply ownership.
- People can play games installed on your console whether you're logged in or not.
- 10 people can be authorised to play these games on a different Xbox One via the cloud, but not at the same time, similar to iTunes authorised devices.
- Publishers decide whether you can trade in your games and may charge for this.
- Publishers decide whether you can give a game you own to someone for free, and this only works if they have been on your friends list for 30 days.
- Your account allows you to play the games you license on any console.
- Your Xbox One must connect to the internet every 24 hours to keep playing games.
- When playing on another Xbox One with your account, this is reduced to one hour.
- Live TV, Blu-ray and DVD movies are exempt from these internet requirements.
- Loaning and renting games will not be possible at launch, but Microsoft is "exploring the possibilities".
- Microsoft may change these policies or discontinue them at any point.
There is also a promise that Microsoft Studios games will all allow you to trade them in and give them away for free, bringing a whole new emphasis to the expression, "It's the least we could do!"The only positive thing in the whole document is confirmation that you can turn off Kinect and its data will never be uploaded without your permission. Let us all applaud Microsoft's "OK, fine!" decision not to intrude on our privacy. The suggestion that these changes to game ownership have been taken to combat piracy or limit the damage that used game sales do to the primary market do not stand up to much scrutiny - at our most charitable, we can say that the data is merely inconclusive, but analysis of other industries that have dealt with these issues for much longer is pretty clear that the overall benefits at least balance out the risks of allowing piracy and used markets to flourish. The more likely reason for this unprecedented new attitude to console game ownership and sharing is that Microsoft wants to turn its game business into the equivalent of iTunes. The signs are already there in the merger of Xbox, Windows and Windows Phone app stores and the decision to run Xbox games off a Virtual Machine 'game OS' within Xbox One, which could easily be included in new hardware derived from the same architectural roadmap. This is a neat business way of getting everything to line up. It is done in service to Microsoft's corporate objectives. It is not even done with any particular malice towards you and I. Nevertheless, it signals the most significant divergence to date of Microsoft's goals for the Xbox business from our own. It also puts an unspecified expiry date on every Xbox One game ever made and gives you no control over it. Yes, at a point in time where consoles are becoming less relevant, Microsoft's solution is to make them less permanent. The addition of cloud gaming functions, the avoidance of DVD or Blu-ray disc access times, the convenience of global access - these are the rewards we are being offered for our complicity in Microsoft's decision to eradicate the concept of console game ownership. They are not good enough and very little ever will be.Digital marketplaces like Netflix, iTunes and the present Xbox Live are a good thing, but they should be additive. They allow us to form a different kind of relationship with art - a more convenient, expansive and often cheaper one that includes better tools for exploration beyond the borders of our current interest. We should and I do celebrate these things. But a critical reason that I accept them is that I still have the option to own an untouchable physical copy of the things I find there as well. You can say this is no worse than what Steam does, you can say that it is no worse than what a lot of 'content' companies do, and those statements are true, but they do not engage with the most important detail of this news, which is what we are being told to give up in exchange for this new arrangement: the opportunity to form tangible, lasting relationships with art that matters to us. If you never had that, then why would you miss it? But we do. And soon we won't.Collectors will still be able to buy Xbox One games on disc, of course, and we may line them up happily on our shelves so that our friends and families can admire our dedication and taste forever more. But under Microsoft's new rules, we are no longer building a collection of games - we are building a collection of loans that may be recalled from us at any time, leaving us with nothing but distant memories. And that loss will be simple, instant and complete.

Microsoft has addressed increasing privacy concerns around Xbox One and Kinect.Microsoft's new console requires Kinect be connected to it to work, but, according to Microsoft, you can "pause" the motion sensor."At Microsoft, we prioritize your privacy," the company wrote in a new update to Xbox.com. "We understand that your personal data and privacy are important."Microsoft said it will navigate you through Xbox One's privacy options, such as automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings and notifications about how your data is used. "When Xbox One is on and you're simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded," Microsoft insisted. You can pause Kinect if you don't want it on while playing games. From there, you can still say "Xbox Off" to turn off the console. When Xbox One is off, it's only listening for the "Xbox On" voice command, Microsoft said, and you can turn that feature off too. "Some apps and games may require Kinect functionality to operate, so you'll need to turn it back on for these experiences."Now on to your personal data. German authorities have expressed concern about the data Microsoft collects through Kinect, although Microsoft executive Phil Harrison toldEurogamer the company isn't using Kinect to "snoop" on players.Today Microsoft said the data Xbox One collects will not leave the console without your explicit permission, and provided a couple of examples of how it will collect your data. A fitness game could measure our heart rate data to provide improved feedback on your workout, and a card game could allow you to bluff your virtual opponent using your facial expressions.Microsoft said it's faster to find content using voice and gesture commands with Kinect, but you can use a controller, remote controls or a smart device. These can be used when Kinect is paused.Microsoft is required to abide by European law that governs how companies use your data. In the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office, the body that fined Sony £250,000 following the PlayStation Network hack of 2011, enforces the Data Protection Act, itself the UK's interpretation of the EU's Data Protection Directive.

The Xbox One controller isn't full of new bells and whistles, but it does have a few new tricks up its sleeves. The new gamepad can apparently go into a low power sleep mode, "if you're watching a movie or need to step away from the TV," according to a feature at Microsoft's official Xbox site. The controller will then re-awaken "the moment" it's picked up, the piece claims, and won't require resynchronization.
Aside from this new feature, the controller will apparently feature a the micro USB we've seen on prototypes in its finished form, so that it can be plugged in and used without batteries should the need arise (though with only one USB plug anywhere near the front of the console, it's not the most reliable solution for multiple people). This is in addition to the revamped thumbsticks and so-called "impulse triggers," as well as the more depressed battery compartment. For the full run down, check out our intro piece right here, and head through the source link below for more from Microsoft directly.

Microsoft answers some of the questions consumers have been asking
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Without any fanfare, Microsoft has released a websitedetailing how the Xbox One will handle its online connection, second-hand games, and the all-new Kinect. Microsoft calls the Xbox One a "modern, connected device," and means every word of it: the console needs an online connection every 24 hours.
"With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies," reads the page explaining the console's online features.
"While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection."
Once games are installed from either a retail disc or Xbox Live purchase, that game will be available at anytime in the cloud. Microsoft says that "discs will continue to be a great way to install your games quickly," pointing to the retail disc as merely a delivery system for the game license and code. Xbox One lets up to ten family members log in and play a shared library of games on the console, so specific family members won't need their own game license. The system will allow trade, trade-in, and resell Xbox One games, but only if game publishers allow it.
"We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games," says the game license page.
"Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."
Finally, Microsoft tackles the updated Kinect, which has led to privacy concerns in some consumers. Though some games may require Kinect functionality, the peripheral can be turned off, even in the Xbox One's standby mode.
"If you don't want the Kinect sensor on while playing games or enjoying your entertainment, you can pause Kinect. To turn off your Xbox One, just say 'Xbox Off.' When the system is off, it's only listening for the single voice command -- 'Xbox On,' and you can even turn that feature off too," says the Kinect portion of the site.
"You will determine how responsive and personalized your Xbox One is to you and your family during setup. The system will navigate you through key privacy options, like automatic or manual sign in, privacy settings, and clear notifications about how data is used. When Xbox One is on and you're simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded."
Microsoft has answered a ton of questions for consumers and the media, but those answers may not be the ones we were hoping to hear.

Games for the Xbox One will not be required to run at a resolution of 1080p or at 60 frames per second.
However, that doesn’t mean that they won’t. Indeed, launch first party title Forza 5 WILL run at top spec
"I believe we're uniquely positioned to deliver on that challenge," Turn 10 Studios' content director John Wendel told GameSpot. "We're a huge epic game that's going to be running at 1080p, 60fps on the next-gen console, so it's an incredible opportunity on one hand, but you have to be incredibly flexible and agile and self-aware on the other hand."
This is the standard that the current generation of machines promised but rarely managed to deliver on. And the risk is that could be the case again with Microsoft not enforcing any minimum requirements for Xbox One software.
"It's important we give creators the best tools to create the best experience possible and I don't think that platform holders can dictate what the internal frame buffer size should be," Microsoft Studios vice president Phil Spencer told Edge magazine, as reported by GameSpot.
"Forza 5 runs at 60 frames per second, but other people will make different trade-offs. Resolution is not the thing that maximises beauty."
Of course, there are plenty who argue that a well-optimised game running at 720p with decent antialiasing and other post-processing effects will look better than an unoptimised 1080p title.
Although they’d be mostly wrong.
