Outspoken exec Peter Moore has insisted that it did not lobby Microsoft to introduce pre-owned restrictions with Xbox One.
There has for a long time been talk throughout the industry that key publishers have been applying pressure on platform holders to curtail what they regard as the revenue-stealing pre-owned market.
But EA COO Moore has outright denied that EA was one of those voices.
"As the guy who is the chief operating officer of Electronic Arts I can tell you that EA did not aggressively lobby for the platform holders to put some gating function in there to allow or disallow used games,” he told Polygon.
“I am on record as being a proponent of used games. I like the ecosystem. I like the fact that it's kept pricing at a good level for eight years. I like the fact that someone can buy a physical game and see some equity in that game. That keeps GameStop vibrant and they are a great launch and marketing partner for us.
"EA has never had a conversation, and I have been present at all of them, with all of the manufacturers, saying you must put a system in place that allows us to take a piece of the action or even stop it. Absolutely incorrect."
That settles that, then.

June 12th, 2013, 23:26 Posted By: wraggster
I was sitting at breakfast yesterday morning with one of my favourite games journalists.
He’s a smart man and a talented writer and he faced a problem. He played some Xbox One games, and he bloody loved them.
The problem? Apparently you can’t say anything nice about Xbox One online with invoking the wrath of the internet. An internet of Xbox fans angry – perhaps understandably so – over proposed DRM restrictions.
But sod it, here we go. Xbox One is really bloody good.
Microsoft’s PR strategy to only talk about the games at E3 has backfired. Because everyone is talking about it. They’re talking about nothing but.
And that, if you excuse the hyperbole, is a tragedy. Because yesterday I sat down with Forza 5 and it is one of the best, and most visually stunning, racing games I have ever played.
Ryse? Not my sort of game, but it plays a bit like a hack and slash Call of Duty and works nicely. Quantum Break? A candidate for my game of the show. Killer Instinct? Actually I’ve never liked Killer Instinct. But Project Spark looks nice.
I feel most sorry for the developers of these games, who are eager to talk about their new titles but are left batting away questions about online check-ins and shared game restrictions.
The reality is, if consoles wars are won and lost on games alone (and they often are), then Xbox One won E3.
Its line-up is stunning. It is definitely a games console. And any Microsoft press conference that closes with an exclusive game from the makers of Call of Duty and a new Halo tease, would usually send fans into fits of hysterics.
But Xbox didn’t win E3.
Its cloud gaming vision, although forward facing and well intentioned, has upset its core fans. Perhaps as I type this, Microsoft’s top brass are in deep discussions about a new compromise for gamers. Perhaps it is busy talking to publishers. Perhaps it is busy coming with a better PR strategy.
And if that’s the case, then just say so. Maybe then gamers can relax a bit and discover what a lovely little machine Xbox One is shaping up to be.
And journalists will feel more confident in telling the world about what it does right.

World of Tanks Xbox 360 Edition will enter open beta in the "relatively near future," Wargaming General Manager Denny Thorley said during a demo at E3. The beta will begin in North America and Canada, and roll out to other countries later on. Beta registration is open now at the game's website.
The beta will likely include four maps and a majority of the full game's 60 total tanks at first, Thorley said.
World of Tanks Xbox 360 Edition won't feature cross-play between PC and console. It supports online multiplayer for up to 30 players – 15 vs. 15 – with no single-player or local multiplayer content at launch. Wargaming may add single-player tutorials or other comparable content in the future.
It's free-to-play for Xbox Live Gold members, and all other Live users will get a free seven-day trial. The monetization strategy on XBLA will be slightly different than its PC predecessor, though Thorley said he couldn't go into detail about specific packages.
"I think you're going to find some similarities," Thorley said. "There are areas that may be slightly different."
The major differences between the PC and Xbox 360 versions of World of Tankswill be the control scheme – surprise, the console edition uses a controller – and some user interface tweaks to better suit a couch perspective.

Call of Duty: Ghosts runs at 1080p resolution on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, Infinity Ward has said. That's while retaining the shooter series' trademark super smooth 60 frames per second visuals.Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin told Eurogamer for Ghosts the priority was to have the game, built on an improved version of Infinity Ward's existing engine, run at 60fps across all platforms, then build from there."We're always so focused there anyway," he said. "It maybe wasn't a challenge as it is for some people. For us it's so ingrained in the way we make our games that it just happens that way. We have a game that runs at 60 frames a second, we start putting stuff in and if something starts to affect that we'll either tweak it or take it out."The console versions are still in severe development, but it looks good so far. We actually have a 4K TV at work and got the game running on that. It looks phenomenal. The 4K TVs have a max hertz of 30, so we're maxing it out. It looks amazing!"

Sheesh, Games Workshop doesn't hang around - a brand new Warhammer 40,000 MMO has been announced, this time for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.The previous Warhammer 40K MMO, Dark Millennium, ran aground at THQ causing hefty lay-offs.This new MMO is Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade, made by Behaviour Interactive (formerly Artificial Mind and Movement) and due late in 2015. Behaviour made 7/10 action game Wet and 4/10 obscenity Naughty Bear.
It's a Canadian studio that's plied a trade since '92 in movie tie-ins and making the 'other versions' of multiplatform games. Despite that, Behaviour apparently employs close to 300 people - so says its website. Does it therefore have the clout to pull-off a multi-platform MMO despite no apparent prior experience in the genre? There's no mention of a publisher either - ambitious is probably an understatement. If Behaviour does pull it off then Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade will be a third-person action-slanted MMO. There's a persistent war going on and you'll need to pick your side as either a Space Marine, Chaos Space Marine, Ork or Eldar and join in. Each faction fights for control of an entire planet.A press release mentioned simultaneous battles for thousands of players and the ability to get into iconic W40K vehicles such as the Rhino, Predator and Ork Battlewagon. Content is procedurally generated. You'll be able to build Battle Squads (guilds, presumably) with your friends and customise a shared space in orbit where you can take stock before you drop down to the planet start killing stuff. There are no screenshots or videos to go by yet; this must be a project in its infancy. Exciting, yes, but tread with trepidation.

Once you've purchased that hot new Xbox One, you've got to have a couple of accessories to go along with it. Naturally Microsoft has thought of that, as it just announced a new version of its Play and Charge Kit plus a refreshed Chat Headset to accompany the next-gen console. As with the previous iteration, the Kit bundles in a controller-compatible lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack plus a cable that'll charge the gamepad when connected to the console. Microsoft claims it can juice up twice as fast as its predecessor and is able to keep charging during gameplay or standby. You can either get the Kit by itself or as part of a controller bundle. The Chat Headset appears to be the same as it was before; it's a wired mono headset with wideband digital audio and a unidirectional microphone. We're still looking for details on pricing and availability (plus a picture or two), but we'll let you know more details as soon we do.
Update: We've added a source link to the Xbox One accessories page plus a picture of both the Play and Charge Kit and the Chat Headset.

In May, Turtle Beach shouted from the hilltops that it snagged Microsoft's blessing to craft Xbox One headsets, and now it's ready to show off the actual hardware. Based on the outfit's Seven Series, the pair of XO Ear Force cans will be available at the console's launch and feature 3.5mm jacks, detachable boom mics and deliver surround sound through wired connections to controller adapters. At $149, the XO Seven boasts a "premium finish," on-ear cups with noise-isolating memory foam cushions, interchangeable speaker plates and a breakaway cable with an in-line mic for use with mobile devices. Liberating $99 from your wallet, however, will net you the more budget-friendly XO Four, which can also be used with devices outfitted with 3.5mm ports.
Bringing other platforms into the mix, Turtle Beach unveiled a trio of Call of Duty: Ghosts-branded headsets, but remained mum on pricing. The wireless Ear Force Phantom boasts dual-band WiFi, rechargeable batteries and compatibility with the Xbox 360, PS3 and mobile devices. The wired Spectre and Shadow are presumably less pricey, and play nice with PC and Mac as well. Sure, E3 may be a video game bonanza, but comic fans are getting some love with an Ear Force Seven headset embellished with Marvel branding, a red accent and swappable speaker covers with different characters.

Microsoft highlights indie push with Minecraft for Xbox One, exclusive from Swery65
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Microsoft's Phil Harrison has stated the company's commitment to working with independent and diverse developers for Xbox One.
As evidence, Harrison announced that Mojang's global phenomenon Minecraft would be coming to Xbox One, with new and exclusive content.
He also introduced footage from Remedy's already announced TV-game hybrid Quantum Break, and a new game from Deadly Premonition creator Swery65, called D4.
When he first took the stage, Harrison said that, "nobody has been more committed to supporting indie development than Microsoft." This is a somewhat controversial claim in light of the widespread frustration among smaller developers at the expense and difficult working practices on the Xbox 360.
Sony has made stronger relationships with independent developers a core part of its PlayStation 4 strategy ever since it was first unveiled. However, Microsoft has yet to describe its approach to independent developers for the Xbox One in any detail.

Billy Pidgeon would have liked to see a lower price, but he understands why Microsoft priced Xbox One at $499
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Microsoft's E3 press conference earlier today was eagerly anticipated by gamers and the industry alike, as Microsoft came through on its promise and showcased a slew of games for the Xbox One after a disappointing hardware reveal that focused more on TV watching. While many reactions to the Xbox One E3 conference have been positive, the $499 price tag has drawn some criticism.
Speaking to GamesIndustry International at the E3 Expo today, veteran analyst Billy Pidgeon commented that he would have liked to have seen a lower price point but he also gets why Microsoft decided on $499. "It's somewhat understandable considering the parts that went into it. I think the economy is looking for lower-priced hardware but the economy also precludes a lot of companies from taking too much of a bath and subsidizing hardware, so it's kind of a double-edged sword at this point. $599 to me would have been a deal-breaker," he said.
Pidgeon added that even if $399 had been the official Xbox One price, the initial sell-through during the first several months probably wouldn't change much.
"I wonder how much of a difference it would make if it was $100 cheaper - I'm not expecting huge sell-ins at the beginning of the cycle. For one thing, there's still good software on the 360 and for PS3, etc. People will be less inclined to buy next-generation hardware. I'm sure [the platforms] will sell out at holiday but into 2014 we're not going to see the same kind of numbers that we saw in previous cycles. They will continue to support the previous gen and in that case a higher price point doesn't affect it as much because I'm not convinced a lower price point would induce that much more pickup," he said.
Speaking of supporting the existing Xbox 360, Microsoft began its press conference by showing off a new model for the current-gen system, but strangely there was no accompanying price cut on the hardware. "New form factor but now new price? It was very weird. They may introduce a price cut later on. I think it would be wise to do so," Pidgeon continued.
While Pidgeon was mostly satisfied with Microsoft's showing at E3, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich was a bit more enthusiastic, calling this year's media briefing "one of Microsoft's best E3 press conferences to date."
"Microsoft made it clear today that their attempts to make the Xbox One a truly integrated entertainment device that will service all members of a household will not come at the cost of alienating the core gaming community," he continued. "From Titanfall, World of Tanks, Quantum Break, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, to Sunset Overdrive, it's evident that Microsoft is investing more resources and capital than ever before to securing exclusive content and games from third-party publishers and developers while investing more resources to internally-developed titles."
Divnich declined to comment on the Xbox One's $499 price tag at this point.

Xbox One fighter Killer Instinct will be a free-to-play title.
It will include just one freely accessible character – Jago. The rest of the cast, which consists of both old and new faces, will be available as premium downloads.
Whether this point to an overarching strategy change from Microsoft remains to be seen.
The game itself is heavily combo-orientated and features big, bold characters.
Although the original game was made by the now Microsoft-owned Rare, this new version is being developed by Silent Hill: Homecoming, Battleship and Green Lantern developers Double Helix.

One of Microsoft's most high-profile Xbox One publishing partners has still not been briefed on Microsoft's pre-owned DRM.
Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt has admitted that it is “eager to find out more” about Microsoft's plans, especially as it has historically been a vocal supporter of DRM free games. Indeed, it has made a business out of it – it owns digital retailer Good Old Games which only sells titles that are free of DRM.
"We have not received anything from Microsoft until today on this one and, before we form any definite opinions here, we would like to have this process explained in details by the platform holder,” CD Projekt co-founder and joint CEO Marcin Iwi?ski told Eurogamer.
"From our side, we will be of course looking for the most gamer friendly solution. We strongly believe in the freedom of choice and voting with your wallet. I would disagree that it would do any good if we decided to abandon one of the platforms, especially when we have the capacity to create games for it.
"We have no influence on the decisions of platform holders, neither Microsoft's or Sony's, but there is a platform where we can decide what we think works best for the gamers, and that's the PC."
Iwi?ski even went on to issue what could rightly be interpreted as a veiled dig at Microsoft, saying that consumers will vote with their wallets and that his company will not be forced into anything it is uncomfortable with.
"I am sure that a lot of gamers will choose one of the consoles for its convenience and easiness of use - that's fine, and by doing so they will agree to whatever rules the platform holder will impose,” he added.
"Ultimately it's the gamers who will call the shots.
"What I can, however, guarantee here and now, is that if you want the 100 per cent DRM-free experience you will have it on the PC, the platform where we set the rules for our games. The Witcher 3 will be available 100 per cent DRM-free on our digital distribution platform GOG.com, and that's one thing I can confirm."

Transactions will now take place using real, localised currency
Microsoft will retire its points system in a new update for the Xbox 360 this autumn, it has confirmed.
Transactions on the Xbox marketplace will now take place using local currency, with the monetary value of a user’s Microsoft account also stored in localised currency.
Consumers will now be able to use a single Microsoft account to purchase games, movies and apps from the Xbox and Windows Phone stores.
Current Microsoft Points will be replaced by a monetary value equal to “great than” their marketplace value.
Funds from Microsoft Points cards can still be redeemed throughout 2014, but these must then be spent within one year. The cards will be discontinued from sale alongside the Xbox update in autumn and replaced by Xbox Gift Cards.

Microsoft says its adapting Kinect for smaller living rooms on the continent
Microsoft’s Xbox One won’t be released in Asia or Japan until 2014, the console manufacturer has let slip.
The console is set to launch this November in the US and Europe.
The move to release the console in Asia next year is part of a “staged approach”, according to Alan Bowman, Microsoft’s regional vice president for sales and marketing in Asia, speaking to the Wall Street Journal.
The company has place of this delay down it working on localising content for the Asian continent, while also noticeably reducing the room that the Kinect motion sensor requires, to match the potentially smaller living spaces in cities such as Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong.
“We listened to the feedback, not everyone in Asia has living rooms,” said Bowman. “The field of vision required for Kinect is much smaller.”

Update #2: The Fable 3 giveaway was intended by Microsoft. It's part of a new two-free-games-a-month deal that will, at some point, include Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 2.Update: Xbox Live Silver members cannot take advantage of this and are charged 3600 Microsoft Points for the game.Original story: You can grab the full Fable 3 game from Xbox.com now for free. All you have to do is select "use Microsoft Points" when asked how you'd like to pay. The cost is 0 Microsoft Points and when you "confirm" the deal, hey presto, the game is yours. Thanks, Eurogamer forum! This is probably an accident on Microsoft's behalf rather than special gift to go with its E3 conference this afternoon.Fable 3 was the quickly made follow-up to Fable 2 on Xbox 360, and was pretty good.Lionhead recently revealed Fable Anniversary, a remake of Fable 1 for Xbox 360. Presumably Lionhead is also working on a fourth Fable game for Xbox One, although not a whiff - besides some job adverts and hiring a new boss - has been given.

It's known as Halo Xbox One, not Halo 5, whatever that means. This latest sequel is due sometime in 2014.It's not clear if this is a numbered sequel or a spin-off, but it features Master Chief and runs at 60 frames-per-second.The announcement trailer, below, shows Master Chief wandering through the desert sporting jedi robes over his trademark armor. He then resurrects a giant mech that rises out of the ground.

Turn 10's Forza 5, one of the Xbox One's glitziest launch games, will be running in native 1080p at 60 frames per second. And that's not even the exciting bit, because it's got a new feature called Drivatar! Okay, the first part was the exciting bit.Forza 5 took centre stage at Microsoft's conference, as did the McLaren P1 that'll be featuring in the game. Turn 10's Dan Greenawalt also revealed Drivatar, a new feature that takes your driving performance and uploads it to the cloud. It's similar to how Real Racing 3's AI worked - here's hoping the implementation's slightly better this time round.
