Virtua Fighter™ 5 will deliver fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping action as players head into battle, taking on a host of popular characters. Play as one of the 17 default characters in the game or customize a character in the quest mode.
Players will be able to modify their characters by selecting from four base costumes and then decorate them by attaching a wide range of unlockable and earnable items. Players will not only achieve victory by defeating highly-skilled opponents, but also by competing for prizes and earning in-game money allowing them to buy many items at an in-game shop. Further building upon the depth of the series, players will now be able to move around their opponent using an “Offensive Move” technique, adding a new strategic element to their battles.
New to the Microsoft Xbox 360™ version, Virtua Fighter™ 5 will be based on the most current arcade game update and feature both analog stick and D-pad control, as well as vibration support. Arcade Mode will now include online leaderboards that will allow you to compare your single-player fighting prowess with people all over the world. You’ll also be able to download arcade matches and learn the techniques of the top players on the leaderboard. The game will also include a more robust Quest Mode featuring more CPU rivals, as well as selectable character items and emblems for character customization. The DOJO mode has also received some added features including new leader-board post sections, move locks to practice and perfect a particular move, throw escape training, the option to change your opponent’s foot position, and changing how your opponent recovers from falls to broaden your over all fighting strategy. It will also be possible to save characters created in the Quest Mode on a Memory Unit and play with those characters against other people’s customized characters in the VS Mode on other Xbox 360 systems.

Finally some good news for the HD-DVD format, Paramount (Dreamworks) announced that its dropping Blue-ray and will be releasing on HD-DVD exclusively, beginning with the releases of Blades of Glory, Shrek 3 and Transformers. Paramount and Dreamworks are the 2007 box office leaders with major franchises including Star Trek and Indiana Jones, their exclusivity really bolsters HD-DVD.
Today's announcement does not include films directed by Steven Spielberg as his films are not exclusive to either format.
Paramount join Universal Studios for releasing exclusively on HD-DVD but companies like Sony Pictures Entertainment and MGM (both owned by Sony) as well as Disney, 20th Century Fox, and Lionsgate are releasing on Blue-ray only. The rest are sitting on the fence support both formats.
Looks like the format war is not over yet!

Seeing as we can't read the Korean written word we'll have to take the internet's word for it, but apparently Tecmo is to unveil Ninja Gaiden 2 at this year's Tokyo Game Show - that's according to Korean gaming press.
And so far, the sequel has only been mentioned in relation to Xbox 360, implying - if the info's all accurate of course - an exclusive for Microsoft's console.
Or it could turn out to be one of those timed exclusive things. We can but wait and see...
Ninja Gaiden Sigma, the remake of the fantastic Ninja Gaiden for Xbox, recently released for PS3 and was extremely well received (go read a review).
This year's Tokyo Game Show runs from September 20 to Sept. 23.

Silicon Knights boss Denis Dyack has said a demo for 360 exclusive Too Human is in the works and should emerge at some point before the game's release in 2008.
He was talking in the forums of fan site TooHuman.net, where he reassured us the game had suffered no delays as a result of the conflict between SK and Epic Games.
"Too Human will be out in 2008. A firm date with tons of new info is coming soon. This will be followed up with a playable demo. The demo will speak for itself," said Dyack.
In July, Silicon Knights accused Epic Games of misleading it regarding the capabilities of the Unreal Engine 3, as well as not providing it with a final development kit in a timely fashion or offering enough support in favour of completing its own games Gears of War and Unreal Tournament 3.
Epic denied the allegations and has since counter-sued, claiming Silicon Knights attempted to "take Epic's licensed technology, pay nothing for it, and use it any way it pleases".
Too Human is a trilogy of role-playing games exclusively for Xbox 360, with each instalment reckoned to be costing a record breaking USD 80 to 100 million each.
It's based around Norse mythology but set in a technologically advanced part of ancient history. You'll collect hordes of equipment, battle through waves of enemies, gain up to 50 levels and customise your character's skills and abilities to fit your play style.
It will have four-player co-operative play included, which will be a necessity when replaying the game on much more challenging settings to gather rare equipment for yourself or to trade online to others.
Microsoft was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.

For those who are following the HD format wars, they know that Paramount and Dreamworks are the 2 studios that are currently neutral, meaning their films get released on both formats. Today, rumors have come out that they both may be thinking of going over to HD DVD's side, because of certain cash donations given to them by the DVD Forum.
Up until now, Paramount and DreamWorks (live action) were releasing in both Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats. The reason for shifting catalog exclusivity to HD-DVD would appear to be substantial upfront dollars. We expect these dollars could have a meaningfully positive impact on Viacom's film profitability in 2H '07 and full-year 2008.
Separately, it appears that DreamWorks Animation is set to announced that 3-5 key titles (some catalog, some new releases, but details are still fuzzy) over the next several years will be made available exclusively in HD-DVD.
While we are somewhat surprised to see DWA favor a format given its smaller number of releases in a year similar to Paramount, we suspect the driving force of the decision was upfront payments to increase their support of HD-DVD. Given DWA's size, the financial impact on EPS in 2008-2010 could be a positive catalyst for the stock (we are still assuming that Shrek The Third is coming out in both formats in November 2007).

I really hope this is true, since I am one of those people who bought the HD DVD add on for 360.

Yeah, we too are a bit miffed at why you'd want your Xbox 360 to look more like, well, itself, but a modder over at Xbox-Scene apparently felt that Microsoft simply stopped short of the goal. The customized machine sports an Xbox 360-themed grill insert, a host of internal green LEDs, an Xbox 360 controller emblem, and an internalized WiFi adapter. Click on for a few more snapshots, and don't be surprised if this guy hears from Redmond about a future in console design.

It would be an understatement to suggest interest in BioShock is hitting critical mass. We've personally lost a few writers on staff who took advantage of the Toys R Us deal earlier this week to the city of Rapture. Furthermore, we'd have lost our own editor Mr. Grant if his Xbox 360 hadn't gone belly-up ... he's seething. The reviews for BioShock are flowing in and they've been overwhelmingly positive. It's going to be an early holiday season for Irrational Games 2K Boston. Now the game just needs to sell well.
Game Informer (100/100): "Even if you play games strictly for the difficulty that they bring, BioShock is a title that needs to be played, simply because you will never look at an FPS the same way again. Of the 15 to 20 hours of gameplay that it delivers, there isn't a second wasted. Once you finish the game, there's little chance that you'll take it out before playing it again to see the second ending."
IGN (97/100): "To call this game simply a first-person shooter, a game that successfully fuses gameplay and narrative, is really doing it a disservice. This game is a beacon. It's one of those monumental experiences you'll never forget, and the benchmark against which games for years to come will, and indeed must, be measured."
1UP (100/100): "The sounds of the vending machines, the demented rants of a housewife who has long lost her sanity, the ability to craft your own ammunition, the level design based on some beloved touchstones of horror (medical experimentation, a garden of evil, the performing arts), the optional photography research, the color palette, the scratchy rendition of "Beyond the Sea," the fire and lighting and water effects...everything is in its right place."
And just for something numerically different...
Xbox World 360 Magazine UK (94/100): "Criticisms? There are a few. The non-replenishable nature of Bioshock's many resources mean that poor players are often punished by the game becoming even harder. And the weird way that enemy health doesn't reset after you die means that if you're blessed with the kind of robo-endurance usually required for Boxing Day family get-togethers, you could hypothetically kill a Big Daddy with your wrench, if you had the time."

The GameSpot News Blog writes about Matt Richtel of the New York Times blogged about the reasons behind differences in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of some games. Later he revisited the topic after hearing back from EA about the issue.
A representative with the publisher told the writer that as a release date nears, the company sometimes readjusts the manpower on the projects to complete the Xbox 360 version first. With a larger installed base for Microsoft's console, the rep said it makes financial sense to get that version of a game out first and maximize potential sales.
Its worth pointing out that the same tactics were used in the last Gen when PS2 games sometimes got prioritized over Xbox games. Does this mean the tide is turning? Something for the Fanboys to fight over

Wesker posted this news :
Finally it has happened. ElSemi is carrying its emulator of CPS3 for Windows to Xbox. At the moment it does not have it release public and it will take a little in arriving… but I have had the honor to be able to prove a very premature version and is able to load stable the 60 games working to fps with sound.
Similar miracle has been possible thanks to the use of a VMS, since the 64 Mb of xbox remained short; and a series of optimizations made in the code. By all means not yet there is interface, neither options nor nothing… or I say to you that he is very green. I will be to You informing!
Lets hope someone ports Chankast to Xbox too

2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive, has announced that it will be publishing Gearbox Software's Borderlands.
"Borderlands represents an important evolutionary leap in game design and technology," said 2K president Christoph Hartmann. "By utilizing revolutionary new technology to create thousands of unique, randomly generated missions, weapons and situations, Borderlands will raise the bar for next gen action games."
The sci-fi themed first-person shooter, in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Games for Windows platforms, will feature a unique content generation system and four player co-operative play.
"Borderlands creates a universe of gameplay that goes far beyond anything anyone would expect. We're tapping into every bit of Gearbox Software's experience with the biggest science fiction video game franchises, then taking everything way past the next level," said Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software.
Borderlands is scheduled for a 2008 holiday season release.

Electronic Arts has popped out the first details for Command & Conquer 3 expansion pack Kane's Wrath.
It will be available in spring 2008, and is based around the Brotherhood of Nod commander and the faction's rise to power - told through a series of video excerpts featuring original Kane actor Joe Kucan.
The biggest additions to gameplay will be a new global Risk-like strategy map, where you'll be able build up and customise your faction's army before jumping into individual battles and leading them to victory.
Couch-commanders eagerly getting to grips with 360 console controls will be treated to a new radial interface system, too, which will let you build, deploy, and attack with your command stick. I say.
On top of all this are six new sub-factions to play around with, and loads of new units, structures and powers for the GDI, Nod and Scrin factions.
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars was released on PC in March and Xbox 360 in May. While it doesn't feature the same depth as something like Supreme Commander or Total War, for fast and fun battles it can barely be topped.

Introductory gameplay video now available from Codemasters
The story:
Already dealing with a turning point in time, one that begins with Churchill being killed in a car accident that ultimately leads to the Axis takeover of the U.S., Turning Point: Fall of Liberty’s fiction also deals with a turning point for the game’s central character, Dan Carson.
As Turning Point: Fall of Liberty opens, Carson, a New York City construction worker, is high up working on the girders of a partially built skyscraper in downtown Manhattan. From this vantage point, Carson witnesses the Nazi invasion: battleships breach New York harbor and the skies fill with Zeppelins, assault blimps and jet aircraft.
Prepare to fight afresh through the invasion of Manhattan, the occupation of Washington D.C., and, ultimately, retaliate on an even wider scale in Turning Point: Fall of Liberty coming early in 2008 for the Xbox 360, the PS3 and P.C.

Though traditionally a controlling mother when it comes to its infant Xbox Live online service, Microsoft hinted today at easing up its sweaty-palmed handholding. Speaking at Gamefest 2007 (via 1UP), the company discussed the Xbox Live Server Platform (XLSP) that companies can use to deliver content, provided they take full responsibility for monitoring the content.
When suggested that one might use this to create a PC level editor that would make games for an Xbox 360 title, Microsoft Software Design Engineer Zsolt Mathe said, "Even though nobody has done that, I would highly recommend that."
Epic Games Vice President Mark Rein had previously stated that Xbox Live's resistance to user-created maps and mods was responsible in part to the delay of the Unreal Tournament 3 for Xbox 360. Looks like XLSP will be the system that expedites the version release.
The catch is that Microsoft must approve the game maker to use XLSP. We imagine it's kind of like the film Chasing Liberty, where the President of the US gives his over-protected daughter extra freedom to travel Europe with an undercover secret service agent constantly keeping watch. In this adaptation, Microsoft is played by the reliable Stark Sands, Mark Rein is captured brilliantly by the venerable and lovable Mandy Moore and XLSP is portrayed by the hunky Matthew Goode ... what? It was a good film, don't look at us like that!
