A 14 year old boy from Brevard, North Carolina was nearly killed Sunday while trying to stop his Xbox 360 from overheating.
While his mother was away the boy had taken the power supply and wrapped it in plastic and tape. In an attempt to cool it off, he submerged it into a pan of water with the cord still plugged in. The boy had regained consciousness by the time paramedics had arrived. He was taken to the Transylvania Community Hospital in Brevard where he spent the night.
Aside from getting knocked unconscious the boy only suffered small burns to his right hand and foot.

Microsoft has finally announced the recommended retail price for the Halo 3 Special Edition Xbox 360 in the UK.
The console will sell for GBP 279.99 from September 26, with the confirmation following the price repositioning for the three other Xbox 360 models announced earlier this week.
"We are pleased to offer the cool Halo 3 Special Edition console for the huge Halo fan community," said Stephen McGill, Microsoft’s head of gaming and entertainment.
"It's a great way for Halo fans to show their allegiance to one of the most popular and successful entertainment franchises ever."
The console does not come with a copy of the highly-anticipated Halo 3, a game which itself comes in three different versions.
Featuring gold and green Halo 3 branding, the console comes with matching wireless controller, 20GB hard-drive and wired headset.
It also allows the users to access limited edition Gamer Pics and Themes for their dashboard, and comes with accessories including a Play & Charge Kit, one-month subscription to the Xbox LIVE Gold service and a Ethernet cable.
Halo 3 will be released in the US on September 25 and a day later in Europe. Microsoft announced earlier in the month that the game has broken the one million pre-order milestone in North America.

Microsoft has announced plans to provide a free retrofit for its Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel which fixes a malfunction in the chassis that may cause the device to "smoke" when the AC/DC power supply is being used. According to Redmond, there haven't been any reports of fire, personal injury, or property damage -- though clearly the game-maker wants to address this problem before it's got a pile of lawsuits on its hands. Apparently, the wheel works just fine with battery power (which Microsoft suggests you use until the repair is made), though plugging it in could be a little dangerous. Unfortunate owners of the faulty product should get themselves over to the company's Xbox support page to get the ball rolling on their wheel surgery.

S.P.H.E.R.E.S. stands for "Super Phast Homogenious Ergonomic Radiating Extraterrestrial Spheres", and is a XBox360 game developed with the XNA framework.
Each player controls a sphere, with the objective to pick up the futuristically looking coin, and deliver it to the base. Only one coin is present in the arena at all times, so the players have to compete for it. Powerups like bombs, mind control, speed and mass boost, and of course the realistic physics engine make way for action packed duels and races.
Please note that due to the usage of the XNA framework, only subscribers of the XNA Creators Club are able to run the game on the XBox.

The Club is nothing like your ordinary shooter. At all. Coming from Bizarre Creations of Project Gotham Racing fame, The Club's hybrid mish-mash of different genres aims to bring "the diversity of a fighting game and the intensity of a shooter" says the studio. Here are a bunch of new shots.
Despite there not being an Enzo Ferrari or cone challenge in sight, The Club bares many similarities to PGR, and that's exactly what elevates it to the unique shooter it's shaping up to be.

Universe at War is set in the near future and deals with alien invasion of Earth, Petroglyph promising huge depth and customisations in the RTS experience. New screenshots have been released.
Speaking about the storyline previously, the developer's Adam Isgreen has explained that mankind has encountered an aggressive alien species bent on invasion of Earth and that ""The invaders are not here to conquer - they're here to harvest."
"Massive walking machines consume plant, animal and mineral without distinction. Press gang-like hordes of invading ground troops herd humans into enormous mass drivers, launching them up to the invader's ships that orbit the planet, never to be seen again. Our game begins on the eve of the last day of human resistance... Or is it?"
Universe at War is in development for PC and Xbox 360 and features cross-platform online play.

A splattering of new shots has been released from the sausage-fuelled German games expo cleverly called Games Convention. It does exactly what it says on the tin, a bit like these new Condemned: Bloodshot screens.
Instead of sending chills up and down CVG's collective spine, we raised the collective eyebrow instead. Come on Sega, you could have released something a little better, eh?

EndWar was revealed at Ubidays a few weeks ago but the exclusive 360 RTS game is gearing up to woo Leipzig's Games Convention, which begins in just a few hours.
There's a buzz surrounding the game because you can play it from start to finish using your voice. No need for cluttered console control issues? We'll wait and see until we play it but EndWar does sound like a step in the right direction at least.
So how does it all work? "It's really easy," creative director Michael de Plater told CVG on the eve of the German show. "You hit the right trigger and you say the order. You can read all the currently available orders on the screen while the trigger is held down just like if you were using a two way radio. So all you need to know how to do is to press one button and read. And once you know the commands you don't even have to read them any more.
"The challenging part of the voice command isn't the interface or the voice recognition. It's having AI units who are smart enough to follow your orders like real soldiers. When you say 'Red Team attack Alpha' it's not a bunch of mindless drones marching to Alpha. These guys will use cover, combined arms tactics and terrain. You are the general, you don't need to micromanage every footstep of the most elite soldiers on the planet."

Silicon Knights' Denis Dyack has said that he believes "justice will be done" when his company's case against Epic Games over an alleged lack of Unreal Engine 3 support is heard.
"I will say that we strongly believe in the complaint that we've served them with," Dyack told Eurogamer in an interview published today.
"We have a law team that's really fantastic and they're going to get the case out there and I am hopeful and confident that justice will be done. Besides that I really can't comment."
Asked whether the case - and indeed Epic's counter-suit, which claimed SK was attempting to "take Epic's licensed technology, pay nothing for it, and use it any way it pleases" - would affect Too Human's release date, Dyack as adamant.
"It absolutely will not affect Too Human. In no way," he told us.
Dyack also said that the game would be shown off to journalists, who would be able to play it for the first time since E3 2006, this October.

The word from Bungie is that they consider the final chapter in the Halo story 99.9% complete. They're now in the home stretch, with time to polish. Says Luke Smith,
"That last .1% percent is pretty important, however. Right now, some testing is being done in a controlled retail environment via our Halo 3 Epsilon. You've probably seen reports online or even folks on your friends' list playing it, so here's the scoop: The Epsilon is a closed, final phase testing for Halo 3. We won't be making the Epsilon available for public consumption, so while that's immensely disappointing for folks hoping that Friends and Family invites would be extended for the Epsilon, just know that each day you wait in agony is another day closer to September 25."
Wired has a huge blowout feature on the title, with lots of screenshots, discussion of how the game was made, and more.

Epic Games president Michael Capps has said that big budget marketing was key to the success of Gears of War - warning that many good games are ignored because they don't have the same level of support.
Capps was speaking during a Leipzig GCDC panel discussion about what makes a best-selling game. When asked by a member of the audience how important a role marketing plays he replied, "Absolutely tremendous... It's so unfortunate that I can list 20 games that were fantastic that nobody ever saw."
According to Capps, Epic was "extremely lucky" to have the backing of such a big publisher as Microsoft, and access to high profile marketing as a result.
"I had Lindsay Lohan come to my launch party," Capps stated. "I'm not sure it was worth the money, but... The point is, it's cool to have that kind of exposure." Gears of War was released in November 2006 and became the fastest-selling Xbox 360 game ever. Within a month more than 2 million units were shifted, and total sales to date are more than double that figure.
Capps said that the secret to Gears' success also lies in the timing of Microsoft's next-gen console launch, telling the audience, "We absolutely attribute Gears of War's success to coming out at exactly the right time for the console, when Microsoft really needed a big Xbox 360 game to sell the platform.
"We've been very lucky with that, but it's so important to any sort of financial success." Fellow panellist and Factor Five president Julian Eggebrecht said he agreed that marketing should be a serious consideration for developers when signing up with publishers.
"If you have any sort of chance in your contract negotiations to get a set number or at least a minumum marketing commitment in there, absolutely go for it," he offered.
"Even though you and your publisher are convinced at the point of signing that your game will be fantastic and the most important thing in their strategy, it could slip six months. And then somebody applies with another game, and that game becomes the most important thing in their strategy."

Heres some news of a new Genesis & Motorola 68000 emulator for the Xbox 360 being worked on by GrahamStoneman:
This project is in very early days, and currently DOES NOT PLAY GAMES. The 68000 instruction set is mostly done, but needs thorough testing and performance tuning. I still need to emulate the VDP, and then the sound chip, which is likely to take a good few months.
The reason I'm publishing this project now is to drum up some early interest. It would be excellent if anybody with any experience in emulators, especially the Sega Genesis, could get in touch, and if you want to lend a hand then that would be great too. I looked at porting an existing C++ Genesis emulator, but all the source code I could find was horrendously complicated, and much of it used assembler language which I'm assuming wouldn't work on the Xbox 360 anyway.
My long term goal is to create a Sega Genesis/Master System/Game Gear/Sega CD/32X emulator for the Xbox 360 that runs at full speed and with full sound support, entirely in C#. I'd like to keep the 68000 core as general purpose as possible so that people can use it in other future emulator projects.
