Well, it only took SNK nearly a year to announce it, but we finally know which Metal Slug will be hitting Xbox Live Arcade. Having already read the headline, you may have guessed that it's Metal Slug 3. If so, then you are correct. Go get yourself a cookie. According to a (translated) press release from SNK Playmore, the game will be part of the company's lineup at the Tokyo Game Show next month. In the same press release, it is also revealed that SNK Playmore will be showing off Fatal Fury Special (known as Wolf Legend Special in Japan).
There you have it then. Now that the veil of secrecy has been lifted, are you happy with SNK's Metal Slug choice, or would you have preferred a different entry in the series?

Patiently awaiting your download this morning is a brand new Madden NFL 08 demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo weighs in at a nice 813MB and is available to North American as well as most European Xbox Live members. We aren't sure how long the demo lasts or what teams you get to play as since the description for the demo only reads "Download the demo.", so you'll have to feel this one out for yourself. Cue up Madden 08 for download fanboys, we know you're curious to see what EA has done with the series this year.

Microsoft seems to be losing the war against modders attacking their precious Xbox 360 hardware with news hitting the internet that a group of modders has successfully downgraded the 360's kernel. Since our last hack / mod update, modders have been diligently working to gain access to a vulnerable kernel by flashing an eFuse without relying on the nearly impossible CPU-key hack and they're happy to announced that they've been successful. Using some sort of "timing attack" a group of modders has flashed one of the CPU's eFuses and been able to revert back to a vulnerable kernel which could possibly allow homebrew apps in the near future. The specific details are quite techie, but if you're curious you can read about the blown eFuse news over at Xbox-Scene.
But before everyone gets all worked up and runs through the streets screaming "teh haxorz are modding my Halo 3s!" you should know that any consoles with old kernels which modders revert back to will not connect to Xbox Live or let them play games online. So, in effect, any kernel downgrading would prevent the console from making its way onto Xbox Live ... that is unless they figure out a way to use a dual kernel system. Just play nice online fellow Xbox 360 modders and if you don't ruin our games then we won't tell Microsoft you opened up your console. You rub our back, we'll rub yours.

Activision has revealed it will be sneaking a Guitar Hero III demo into the Xbox 360 version of Tony Hawk's Proving Ground.
The full skating bundle will be released here on 9th October, meaning you'll get a two week head start before the GHIII demo rocks its way onto Live.
When taking a break from kick-flipping and break-neck-pipey-manual-shift-pumping, you'll be able to strum along to five fresh tracks in a Desert Rock Tour venue.- Lay Down by Priestess
- Even Flow by Pearl Jam
- The Metal by Tenacious D
- Hit Me with your Best Shot as made famous by Pat Benatar
- Rock You like a Hurricane as made famous by the Scorpions
- It should tide you over until the full rock package hits shelves later in October.
Tony Hawk's Proving Ground follows on from the excellent Project 8 instalment last year. This time the skating legend and developer Neversoft aim to bring us more community, customisation, and online features than ever before.
You'll be able to make your own videos and hang out in an online Skate Lounge, you see, as well as enjoy a revamped Skate park creation feature and seamlessly board around with your pals. Trick modes have been polished up, too, alongside the addition of two new moves: Nail the Grab and Nail the Manual. We prefer RTFM.
Look out for our thoughts on it as October approaches.

SouthPeak has confirmed that Two Worlds will be released for 360 and PC in the UK on 7th September.
The fantasy role-playing game was previously expected earlier in the year, but was pushed back to give developer Reality Pump more time to polish bits and pieces - like the fancy MMO-style multiplayer mode.
This will be a similar affair to what Hellgate: London is offering, aiming to keep you playing long after you've trounced the main story campaign. No monthly subscription has been linked with Two Worlds so far.
"We're overjoyed to confirm Two Worlds' release date for the UK. It's been a long time coming, but we think a game of this complexity and scope shouldn't be hastily rushed to market," said Melanie Mroz, executive suit at SouthPeak.
"We're making sure that Two Worlds has been exhaustively balanced and bug-tested, meaning that UK players will get the very best experience possible on September 7th." We got our hands on the game in June and were pleasantly surprised; despite its superficial similarities Bethesda's behemoth Oblivion, underneath were some significant and clever new features.

Snake is a 3-D game with the soul of a retro 2-D game. You control a snake as it moves through various levels. You must avoid the walls and your own tail as you clear levels by eating food. As you eat food, your tail grows longer. The snake's speed starts off slow but gets faster every level.
Keep an eye out for several levels that pay homage to classic video games (Pac-Man and Atari Combat).
Controls are described in the in-game menus and in the readme.txt file.
The zip file contains two other zip files: one for the Windows project and one for the XBox 360 project. Both projects share one copy of the source and resource files.
This project has been released in February 2007.

RetroBowl is a football game that pays homage to the original Tecmo Bowl for NES. There are a variety of teams provided and you can add your own teams and players by editing/adding config files.
Each team has different strengths and weaknesses that parallel real-life teams from the late 80's and early 90's. For example, Miami has a strong passing game but an average running game and a weak defense.
Like in the original, each team has four offensive plays (plus punt and field goal). The defensive player tries to guess the offensive play. If the guess is correct, the offensive play will be stopped cold.
Both 1 and 2 player games are supported. Instructions are available from the main menu. You must use a gamepad.
This release is from March 2007.
