Microsoft will be adding Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Metal Arms: Glitch in the System to Xbox Originals next Monday.
You can download them on 21st April for 1200 Microsoft Points (GBP 10.20 / EUR 14.40) a pop.
Kristan really rather liked Metal Arms when it came out in 2003, saying it deserved much more attention than it went on to command. You play as a gun-slinging robot called Glitch in a frantic third-person blaster that is a bit like Ratchet & Clank overdosed on human growth hormone.
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, on the other hand, is the 2005 instalment in the popular sneaky spy series. Kristan reckoned it wasn't the best of the Sam Fisher outings, which seemed to spark a rather hefty reaction from you.
Those interested in either Chaos Theory or Metal Arms should shop around on Amazon marketplace or eBay for even further savings.
Pop over to the official Xbox Originals page for a full list of back catalogue additions and how to download them.

Remember the badass mom who put her son's Xbox 360 up on eBay after he broke the vacuum to get out of playing chores and was busted surfing for porn on the web? Well, it looks like being a tough parent pays: Dyson is sending her a $500 DC25 vacuum cleaner free of charge. So remember this lesson, kids: if you're going to be a little brat, make sure your mom is creative and you get punished in a way that garners publicity. That way, she'll profit and you can claim that was your plan from the beginning. The system works!

Man the lifeboats! It's out in just two weeks and you're about to drown in a tsunami of Grand Theft Auto IV print, television and billboard advertising.
Thanks to the international chaps at NeoGAF who've yet again come up with the goods, below you can find a collection of the most impressive GTA IV adverts from across the world.
From Los Angeles billboards to gigantic painted building murals in New York and Italy, it looks like it'll be almost impossible to miss.
Unfortunately though, Rockstar tells CVG that it has "no plans" to erect any New York-style Niko-painted buildings in London. Maybe they expect we'll all be buying it anyway and they don't have to?
If you do happen to spot a cool GTA IV ad on the street, or the side of a bus, snap it and send it in.

The award-winning multiplayer experience evolves with three new maps and expanded Forge options now available on Xbox Live Marketplace
After launching in Sept. 2007, millions of fans the world over still log onto Xbox Live every day to experience the award-winning action of Halo 3 multiplayer. That experience expanded first in December with the release of the Heroic Map Pack, and today Microsoft and Bungie release the next evolution with the Legendary Map Pack.
Available for 800 Microsoft Points exclusively on Xbox Live Marketplace, this second major downloadable content offering includes three new multiplayer maps, as well as a bevy of new Forge options.
Avalanche and Blackout revive two fan-favorite maps from previous Halo games, while Ghost Town welcomes desolate jungle combat to the experience. And now, using new options in the Forge, players can create more detailed challenges and map variants than ever, while also utilizing a variety of visual effects to create new, unique screenshots and saved films.
Avalanche is a throwback all the way to Halo: Combat Evolved. This snowy battlefield was inspired by the original Sidewinder, but the massive, vehicle-oriented objective map adds a twist to its classic predecessor with all new interiors, dramatically reshaped exteriors and brand new vehicle variants. Admire the view from above, as Avalanche also marks the arrival of the Hornet to Halo 3 multiplayer.
In keeping with the theme of "fan-favorites," Blackout will fill the void left by fans of Halo 2's Lockout. Although fully re-visualized, this map adheres very faithfully to the tightly wound perfection of the original, but eschews Forerunner architecture in favor of industrial human design. Blackout is perfect for fans of small battleground Slayer matches.
The Legendary Map Pack also packs a brand new punch, in addition to the two classics, with Ghost Town -- a battle-scarred maze of narrow passages and dangerous ruins. Collapsed ceilings and shell-battered buildings provide both valuable cover and deadly traps, as catwalks and stairways take the fight from claustrophobic ground combat to dizzying rooftop battles. Ghost Town is a mid-sized map ideal for Team Slayer games and smaller, objective types.
As an added bonus, for a limited time only, gamers who purchase the Legendary Map Pack will receive a four month subscription to "Bungie PRO" via Xbox Live. Bungie PRO greatly expands the Halo 3 experience by increasing the maximum number of file share storage slots from six to twenty-four while also increasing the total file storage size to 250MB. This will allow players to upload and share more films, maps, screenshots and game-types than ever before.
After downloading the new maps, gamers can register on Xbox Live for the "Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack Play & Win Sweepstakes" for their chance to win great prizes including a Halo 3 Edition console, Halo ActionClix: Scarab Vehicle Pack, a complete set of Halo 3 Series 1 Action Figures from McFarlane Toys, nearly one million MS Points and much more. Visit www.xbox.com/legendaryplaywin for more details.
The maps of the Legendary Map Pack are available in matchmaking today to those who have purchased the download. Additionally, fans that have yet to purchase the Heroic Map Pack, which released in December, can now download it for free on Xbox Live Marketplace.

13-year-old kid in Virginia has backtalked to his mom for the last time. When he was told to do his chores instead of play Xbox 360, he went and intentionally broke the vacuum cleaner to get out of it. What'd his mom do? Well, she's selling his Xbox and all his games on eBay. And that was before she found out he was surfing porn sites by checking out his browser's cookies.
We asked Beth, his mom, what happened, exactly, and here's what she had to say about what went down.
My 13 year old managed to break the vacuum....thinking it would release him from that duty. He also has a list of other chores that were TYPED up for him to do Friday afternoon....one thing on the list was done...mind you these are simple things...empty the trash, clean your room, etc. Then I go thru the cookies on his computer and find out he has been checking out porn sites. Now there is a password so he can't even get on and his my-space page has a picture of snoopy on it now. Apparently I'm the meanest mom in the world, were his words.
I'm a single mom. I can't let them walk over me or I might never get up.
Sorry kid, but we've gotta get behind your mom on this one. First of all, we're guessing she bought you that Xbox, unless you're the most enterprising 13-year-old ever, so you can deal with keeping your room tidy. Second of all, breaking the vacuum? That's weak. The porn sites thing, well, you should have been more careful about it if you have a mom who knows her way around a computer enough to check out your cookies. As for the Snoopy pic on your MySpace… well, that's pretty hilarious.
The score is now Beth - 1, her kid - 0. If you want to increase that score for Beth, go ahead and pick up a slightly used Xbox 360 for $250 and all of his games for $15 each, with bitterness from a 13-year-old coming along with them free of charge.

It may not seem like something the general public has been crying out for, but Microsoft has apparently decided to begin opening its own retail stores.
Citing "our sources close to Microsoft", Fudzilla claims the Yahoo chaser desperately wants to establish a retail market presence to build interest and desirability around its products, much in the same way Apple has done so successfully.
A full catalogue of Microsoft only products will allegedly be stocked in these stores ranging from PC peripherals such as mice and webcams to its Zune MP3 player line, Xbox 360 games console, Windows Mobile based handsets and core software offerings.

Microsoft has yet to announce European plans for the company's iPod competitor, Zune, but XNA boss Chris Satchell has told Eurogamer that proof-of-concept game development for the handheld media device is progressing very nicely.
"That touchpad is great," said Satchell, who demonstrated a basic Zune shoot-'em-up called Zauri at GDC in February. "I'm used to mobile games and it's always terrible. Not the games, but the input. And so this sort of blew me away."
"Imagine bowling, where you swing across it, or anything that requires a physical dexterity gesture," he added. Apparently someone even ported a "Wolfenstein-style renderer" to Zune, which ran at 30 frames-per-second and could be played with the Zune's portrait perspective screen turned on its side.
Another thing that excites Satchell at the moment is co-operative games played over Wi-Fi. "One of the things we talked about was the network play, and we've had people doing prototypes internally of multiplayer shoot-'em-ups both in versus and co-op," he said.
"I'm really looking forward to people using their networking ability to use peer-to-peer games," he added. "I'm sure we're going to see some peer-to-peer race games, kart-style games - those are going to be fun."
Mind you, all of this will depend on the next big XNA release for developers later this year, which is likely to happen in December. Hopefully by then we'll also be able to buy the handheld in Europe although, when we inquired, a Microsoft spokesperson told us: "We've made no announcements on that outside of the US."

SEGA has popped a demo for Universe at War: Earth Assault on Xbox Live.
It weighs in at 547MB, and gives you a taste of the strategical space fights awaiting you in the full version.
Universe at War: Earth Assault was released at the end of March for Xbox 360. We didn't like it very much, but who knows? Maybe you will. In which case it's a good thing this is a news item about a demo that you can play to help make your mind up.

Two very different games are heading to Xbox Live Arcade this week: Rocky & Bullwinkle, a casual concoction of "micro games," and Battlezone, an updated version of Atari's classic 1980 arcade tank game.
Based on the cartoon series of the 1960s, "Rocky and Bullwinkle" on Xbox Live Arcade is a party experience with more than 100 micro games. Eight playable characters from Frostbite Falls are in the game, including Rocky, Bullwinkle, Boris, Natasha, Dudley Do-Right and more. "Rocky and Bullwinkle" features five difficulty settings (we're guessing really easy through mildly easy), as well as support for up to 12 players in local mode.
Battlezone adds new multiplayer modes for up to two players both locally and over Xbox Live, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. Players will also be able to use the Xbox Live Vision camera to challenge opponents on the battle field, Microsoft said. New special effects for weapon firing, impacts and explosions have also been worked into the XBLA version.

If you haven’t played COD4 yet (if not, why not?), then this post contains minor spoilers.
Recently I have found myself becoming increasingly bored with video games. Often I will find myself firing up my console, and just not wanting to play any of my games. Now the reason is not that all the games released are low quality, in fact it’s far from it. It is the simple fact that all the games released in the past year (except a few, more on those later) lack a certain quality. It is this unique aspect of a game that separates it from other games. Now this ‘quality’ is not graphics or sound or whatever, it is something quite different, but I can’t pinpoint what it is. Hmm…this is quite hard to explain…
.
Let me give you an example. Take Call of Duty 4. Now everybody agrees that COD4 is technically a good game. It has good graphics and sound, the online and perk system is great, now while these certainly contribute to it, these are not the things that make the game special. There are two levels in the game, where you do practically nothing. They’re almost like cutscenes, but from a first person perspective. However, despite this, these are my two favourite levels in the game. The first of these levels is where you see yourself (President Yasir Al-Fulani) assassinated. You are shoved into a car and driven through a city, before being shot in the head. It wont come through in text, but when your watching it, it is so absorbing - you feel much more sympathetic towards the character, and feel much more against the killer. The second level is when you wake up after a nuclear weapon has been activated. You crawl out from your crashed helicopter, only to find a destroyed city, with debris flying everywhere. Amazing.
Technical aspects and how fun the game is definitely contribute to whether the game memorable or not, but there is also something else.
.
Despite what I’ve said, I don’t think the ‘quality’ that is missing from so many games is the ability to emotionally involve a player. No, that’s not it. It’s just that most of the recently released video games aren’t special. Take Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 for example. It’s an ok game, but there’s nothing special about it. Again, Burnout Paradise, it pretty fun, but it’s not special, I’m not going to remember it as one of my favourite games of all time. So many games that are released now are just so uninspiring. That’s it! Uninspiring. See if you can think of a game released in the past year, that you can honestly say is inspiring, or really special. If I had to, I’d probably go with Call of Duty 4 and maybe Bully: Scholarship Edition. The only game that I can say has truly inspired me if Portal. Three games isn’t a lot. I’ve bought all the big releases this year and some small ones, but I’m still bored. There is only one reason I can think of - that gaming has become a bit stagnant lately. There were very few new franchises or series launched, and most of the big hits were sequels (Call of Duty 4, Halo 3 etc.), if you look on the horizon all I can see is more sequels like MGS4, GTA4, Fallout 3. These will all be great quality games, and I’m sure everyone will enjoy them. I mean, games can still be a hell of a lot of fun, even if they aren’t inspiring - I know I’ve enjoyed laying a lot of games this past year. Now before you all think I’m crazy I know I’m not alone in this view. I’ve spoken to a couple of people on Xbox Live that agree with me and I’m sure there must be others. Don’t get me wrong, I love gaming and I’ve really enjoyed a lot of the games this year, but just feel they could have been better. I read about games, buy games, write about games, but recently I really am loosing faith in them. Strange. Come on video game industry, show us something amazing! Maybe this year will reignite my passion for my hobby.
.
Note: I know this all sounds a bit weird: ‘How can a guy have lots of fun playing games, but still be disappointed with them?’. Well before you all yell ‘hypocrisy!’, just because a game isn’t special or inspiring, doesn’t mean it isn’t a hell of a lot of fun.

Sometimes I pick up my controller, even if I'm not playing any games, and fly it around imagining it's a space fighter. That's about as far as I get with modding these things. But HacknMod has a few fun projects cooler than that, if you don't mind putting your controller, or two, out of service while you get it right. Even if you aren't mechanically inclined, they're cool to look at. The how-tos include:
• Add LEDs to the buttons (but we've already seen that here)
• Rapid-Fire Mod
• Custom Paint Job
• Integrated Messenger Kit (above)
• Tilt Controller
Tilt controller, of course, isn't a pure Wii-style hack, but it is pretty cool (see the movie). Most everyone could get the custom paint job right. Everything else after that requires some serious skill or acceptance of the fact that you will probably ruin one controller before getting it right on another.

If GTA IV is going to be truly groundbreaking, then it will have to break ground in another realm: Real-life crimes to blame on it. Happily, GamesRadar is on the leading edge of this, spotting eight new crimes that imbecilic mainstream media will be thrilled to pin on "gamers," Rockstar, and this particular title.
Bad deeds 2.0 include:
• Driving while talking on a cell phone
• Simple assault
• Hotboxing a car
Funny take that doubles as a feature on some of the new stuff you'll be able to do, in and out of mission, in GTA IV.

The first adverts are out for GTA IV in the UK, and it looks as if the game will be getting similar treatment games like Assassins Creed and Burnout Paradise saw upon release, with the title only getting advertised for one console - in this case the Xbox 360.
It is likely this 360-only advertising could be part of the huge downloadable content exclusive deal Microsoft spent a lot of money on last year. As you can see the advert also gives mention of that, commenting it will be arriving exclusively on the console in “Autumn 2008”
If this single console advertising continues onto TV we have to wonder will it have an effect on PS3 sales of the game?

via Eurogamer
Chris Satchell, XNA group manager at Microsoft, has said that companies like Sony, Nintendo and Apple are "inviting trouble" if they don't have XNA-style security measures in place to protect against malicious user-generated content.
"I think there's a potential risk on any platform where you're allowing...where you're running in what we call native mode, where you're writing straight to the metal, not a sandbox layer like XNA, and then that runs a script engine and you let people do that in that script engine," Satchell told Eurogamer in an interview published today.
"Any platform that let's you do that, and doesn't have the right security measures in place - whether it's Sony, whether it's Nintendo, whether it's Apple, whether it's anyone - you're inviting trouble, because sooner or later someone will want to prove they can do it," he added.
Satchell was responding to a question about whether the peer-review system used to help weed out inappropriate content in XNA community games could be put to other use. He admits it could be, but obviously mod support isn't on the immediate agenda.
The XNA group's boss also talked about the possibility of XNA community games being allowed to use Achievements, saying that Microsoft will "need to see how the community works" before making a decision.
Read the full Chris Satchell XNA interview for more, and look out for Satchell's comments on other topics - including everyone's favourite media player, Zune, and J Allard's mentalist Gamerscore - next week.

SEGA of America is excited to reveal all of the extremely powerful suits that are playable and unlockable in the upcoming video game - Iron Man! Iron Man, a commanding Super Hero who built his greatest weapon- his suit - is on a mission to protect the world from the weapons he helped to create. Over the course of his epic career, brilliant scientist Tony Stark has created a variety of suits for his alter-ego Iron Man, several of which are available in the game due out on all platforms on May 2, 2008. Read below for some info on the various suits that will be in the game:
MARK I
This is the very first Iron Man suit ever built. In a life changing moment, Tony Stark is attacked and captured by terrorists. While being held captive, Tony is forced to build a weapon of mass destruction. With the help of Yinsen, Tony builds the Mark I suit instead and uses it to escape. Thus, a new Super Hero is born: IRON MAN!
MARK II
The Mark II was constructed as a prototype with an emphasis on exploring flight potential. As the first suit of Iron Man armor built at Stark Industries, the Mark II armor was soon replaced by the Mark III after initial flight testing.
MARK III
This is the main suit Iron Man uses in the game and film. After initial flight tests were completed on the Mark II, Tony built the Mark III. Designed for customization, the Mark III armor can be equipped with a variety of enhancements and upgrades.
Unlockable Suits:
Classic
First debuting in "Tales of Suspense #48", the suit that would become known as the iconic Iron Man armor underwent several subtle cosmetic changes before the look was finalized in "Tales of Suspense #66". Some of the major features of the suit were the first implementation of the palm mounted "Repulsor Rays", ultra fine microscopic integrated circuitry that made the suit easier to control, and boot thrusters that enabled the wearer to fly for greatly sustained speeds and distances. Appearing in well over 200 issues of Iron Man's comic adventures, this suit is easily the most recognizable suit in Iron Man's arsenal.
Extremis
First appearing during the "Extremis" story arc that ran from Iron Man Vol. 4 Issues 1-6, this armor has become the most prevalent look for the modern day Iron Man. This is the defining suit that Tony Stark has worn during major events such as "Civil War" and "World War Hulk". In this armor, Iron Man has hit new levels of power.
Hulkbuster
The name says it all. In order to be ready for possible combat with the rampaging monster known as "The Incredible Hulk", Tony Stark developed this suit of armor as the ultimate add on to the Iron Man suit. The first version of Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor appeared in Iron Man #304 and enabled Iron Man to lift up to 175 tons as well as provide enough durability to withstand repeated blows from the Hulk.
Classic Mark I
The first Iron Man suit ever created. Built during Iron Man's first appearance in "Tales of Suspense #39", the suit functioned both as a life saving device for Tony Stark's injured heart and as a weapon to help him escape captivity. While reinterpreted by different artists, this design is based from the original version of the suit designed by Jack Kirby and Don Heck.
Platform Specific-Suits:
Silver Centurion- X360 Only
Originally used as a means by which Tony Stark could test out new ideas for the Iron Man suit, it eventually became his new fully operational set of armor when used in the first comic book battle between Tony Stark and Obadiah Stane in Iron Man issue 200. Boldly sporting new colors, this version of the suit was worn during Stark's days as a West Coast Avenger and during the first "Armor Wars" storyline.
Ultimate- PS3 Only
In the Ultimate Universe, an alternate version of the Marvel Universe, Tony Stark requires the help of an entire specialized crew to help maintain this bulkier Iron Man armor. As seen in The Ultimates, this ensemble functions more like a compact vehicle than a man-sized suit of armor.
