If you're suddenly overcome with a feeling akin to déjÃ* vu, go ahead and kill that speed dial to your physician. For the second time in a month, Microsoft has actually come forward to squash a Blu-ray Xbox 360 rumor. This go 'round, an alleged statement from Redmond states quite outrightly that "Lite-On is not manufacturing Blu-ray drives for Xbox 360," and it continues on by noting that "customers who want a premium movie experience [can check out the] library of on-demand HD content" available to console owners. Still, we've grown accustomed to these denials by now, and while you'd think that having a pair of rumors on the matter smashed would put the issue to rest, we've all ideas this one isn't quite dead and buried just yet.

DigiTimes is feeling pretty confident about the rumors they started yesterday regarding the Xbox 360 with integrated Blu-ray. They are so confident that they're predicting a price war as Microsoft takes on Sony's PS3 at its own game. Their sources claim that the Blu-ray Disc drive will cost Microsoft between $95 and $100 -- much higher than the $18 to $20 DVD drives already found in the Xbox 360. Microsoft is of course, expected to sell its new Blu-ray rig at a loss as is customary in the console market. Sony may then be forced to lower the cost of the PS3 and/or retaliate by increasing Lite-On's cost for the Blu-ray components (like the BD-ROM pick-up heads) purchased from Sony. Whatever the result, the competition would be nothing but good news for consumers of HD media... you know, if the rumor is true.

Jason Bourne will be slamming faces into walls and crashing Mini Coopers into police cars in Bourne Conspiracy on PS3 and 360 from June 27.
We came away suitably impressed with the game's hard-hitting combat system and spectacular movie-style sequences when we travelled to Paris for a hands-on session. You can read about what impressed us most right here.
The game attempts to stick faithfully to the overall nature of the films by throwing out the idea of puzzles, and just pushes you through linear levels of non-stop nostril-smashing violence.
"The game delivers an original story uncovering Jason Bourne's past and the conspiracy shrouding his origins, plunging players into the role of Bourne as both trained assassin and marked government agent.
Core to the experience is Bourne's definition as a perfect weapon with heightened combat instinct, where players use Bourne's characteristic capabilities to recognise threats, perform devastating takedown moves and use his surrounding environment to overcome deadly situations."
Look out for a review closer to release.

I have been meaning to post this for a while, but I didn’t get around to it, I wrote this piece up in the Summer of 07 when I first came across the RROD. I don’t know if this theory still applies to the newer Xbox 360 units with the heatsinks or newer chipset’s since they do not produce as much heat as the previous models did.
When I first experienced the RROD the first thing I did was phone in for a “coffin”. I heard bad things about the RROD call service, about how the person on the other side wouldn’t understand me due to outsourcing, bad service, etc. I can safely say that none of those applied, I got someone who was fluent in English, I’m assuming it was someone from North America. When I told the man on the other line about my problem the first thing he said was “Oh well on behalf of Microsoft I am sorry for your loss” or something similar to those lines. He then went on assuring me that it would cost me nothing. After all that was done I played the waiting game, the “coffin” came in about 7 or so days, in reality I phoned in on Monday and the “coffin” arrived that Thursday night, too late to make it onto the morning trucks. So I had to wait since they didn’t ship on weekends until Monday to get it. After receiving it I sent it in the next day and received it in about 3 weeks, 2 days after the Bioshock launch. I was hoping for a HDMI console since the announcement of the HDMI Premium console came out a week before me shipping mine in, but it was the original. It had a bad DVD drive which forced me to send it in again, missing the H3 launch due to my own procrastination, but that’s a different story.
While I waited for the box the first time around I started to experiment with the 360 a bit. I heard of the towel tricks but from my tests I found out a towel was not needed! What I did was I let the Xbox run without anything blocking the vents, through trial and error I found out the following:
The article is pretty lengthy so it wouldn't be best to post the whole thing, the reason is available via my blog.

Last week, game master Chillaura gave everyone a little heads-up on what to expect with this week's update. Though he stated the information was subject to change, it has now been confirmed by the official Japanese Xbox 360 site.
New missions
Rounding off the recent party mission updates, Her Secret Mission will receive its S rank difficulty. Please note that this difficulty level is available only to those playing Ambition of the Illuminus. If you are playing the base Phantasy Star Universe, you will only have access to difficulties C-A. Also, to assist Guardians with finding a party to run this mission, Ohtoku Standby Area will be released.
New items
This new mission difficulty will release a number of new items to the game including synthesis boards for weapons such as the Halarodoc, Daiga-Misakic, Fuka-Misakic and others!

So far we've managed to ignore the tsunami of April Fool's jokes that's rampaged across the internet (we think), but Microsoft's put too much effort into its own Xbox.com tomfoolery to be ignored.
The Xbox 360 Wireless Helmet, Xbox Live: The Board Game and Xbox 360: Vintage Edition are among the spoof products on the newly updated official site, as well as slimed down 'Recon Edition' which looks straight out of Tom Clancy.
Second party dev Rare has even joined in the fun, posting five "possible scenarios" for the new Banjo-Kazooie, and apparently one of them is real. We reckon it's the one about Grunty's T.I.T.
See the full selection of Microsoft's gags in the pictures right here.

Activision has told Eurogamer that the Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack is still on course for release in "early April".
Whether or not that means this week on Xbox 360 is yet to be seen, although developer blog IAMfourtwozero is adamant it will be.
The Map Pack will cost 800 Microsoft Points and include fresh areas Broadcast, Creek, Killhouse and Chinatown.
Broadcast is suited to large team games and takes place in and around a multi-story television station; Creek is a wide open village with lots of foliage and scattered farm buildings providing great cover for snipers; Chinatown is a modern version of the Carentan Call of Duty map, and takes place at night and works with most gametypes; and Killhouse is an enclosed warehouse made up of plywood training structures for soft and hard cover shoot outs between small teams.
The PS3 Variety Map Pack will arrive roughly 21-days later, with a PC version still unannounced.
Pop over to our interview with Infinity Ward to see what it had to say about the Variety Map Pack.

We're beginning to get a little dizzy amidst all this tête-Ã*-tête action between Microsoft and Sony regarding the Blu-ray format. Sony says Microsoft's building a Blu-ray drive, Microsoft says it's not. MS CEO Steve Ballmer says the company's thinking about it, then another MS exec says disc technology's on its way out. Now, Digitimes is reporting that manufacturer Lite-On IT is amidst development of Blu-ray drives for the Xbox 360, to be included in future iterations of the 360 hardware.
According to Digitimes' sources, the BD-ROM drives are due to ship out to Microsoft in the second half of this year. Lite-On has previously developed internal DVD-ROM drives for the Xbox 360, leading us to believe that Microsoft may plan to include internal BD-ROM drives in future 360 iterations (such as those including the Jasper, Opus and Valhalla chipsets). No need to fear, however: Such an inclusion would likely be solely for Blu-ray disc playback, and not for Xbox 360 games pressed on BD-ROMS (we hope).

Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV is poised to sell 5.8 million units during its first week of availability, according to Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey.
In a note to GameStop investors, Hickey highlighted this year's top games that are expected to drive sales at the retailer.
Among titles such as Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Halo Wars, Wii Fit, Fallout 3, Mercenaries 2 and other high-profile games, Hickey singled out GTA IV, which is slated to release April 29.
"We expect [GameStop] will benefit from the release of GTA IV in their fiscal Q208 period, which could ship 5.8 million units in the first week or $360 million in retails sales and potentially $110 million for the Company," he wrote.
Hickey's week-one estimates are in line with Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, who said in mid-March that he expects GTA IV to sell 6 million in its first week.
Pachter said he expects the game to sell 9 million during Rockstar parent Take-Two's fiscal year.
Hickey expects game industry software sales to grow 20 percent year-on-year for calendar 2008, with hardware sales growing 13 percent.

Rare has decided to let you guess at the plot in upcoming title Banjo-Kazooie 3.
This special April treat is not a joke, apparently. There are five rumours on the website, one of which is true.
So, will it be Banjo falling in love with Grunty as the pair battle a new threat, or Banjo journeying into space to find an alien-abducted Kazooie?
Perhaps it is Banjo and Kazooie going back in time after a witch's giant T.I.T., or Banjo coming out of retirement to stop his home being turned into a supermarket?
Or could it be Banjo becoming a reluctant leader as war comes to Spiral Mountain?
Our money is on Grunty driving her time machine back in time to before the bear and bird met, prompting fresh introductions and a re-learning of all the tag-team skills.
Pop over to the Rare website to get guessing.
Banjo-Kazooie 3 will be out on Xbox 360 this Christmas.

The Xbox 360 is on course to record 2 million sales in the UK next week, according to Chart-Track.
Boosted by the recent official price cut and bumper Easter sales period, Microsoft's console hits the milestone in the midst of a fierce scrap with Sony's rival PlayStation 3 in the key European territory.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Dorian Bloch, director of UK sales monitor Chart-Track, said: "We are very close to clocking through 2 million 360s in the UK. It should be next week."
The Xbox 360 launched in the UK in December 2005 and reached 1 million sales after 60 weeks. Sony announced that PlayStation 3, which launched in the UK last March, had sold through 1 million units by February of this year. According to Microsoft, the Xbox 360 has sold around 18 million units worldwide since launch.
Following price reductions to all three models of the Xbox 360 across Europe, GamesIndustry.biz revealed that 360 enjoyed a 40 per cent uplift in sales within the first weekend after the cut.
After a further leap over the Easter weekend, Bloch said sales dropped by 11 per cent for week 13, while PS3 enjoyed a jump of 14 per cent, coinciding with the launch of the heavily advertised Gran Turismo 5: Prologue hardware bundle. Microsoft was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
"The Xbox 360 is extremely well liked in the UK and very strong," added Bloch. "Sony has a long way to go to overtake it in the UK."

A list of what may - or may not - be the full Achievements for the Xbox 360 version of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV has appeared on the 'net.
Reported here, the list shows Achievements for both single-player and multiplayer game modes. We particularly like Assassin's Greed, which earns you points if you complete all nine assassination missions in the sequel (Assassin's Greed - geddit? Hohohoho).
Well, that's if the list isn't complete bullsh*t, which it may well turn out to be.
GTA IV's out April 29. Last week saw Rockstar release the final trailer for the game, and unveil the Rockstar Social Club, a web-based stat-tracking wotsit.

Hello, Xbox 360 owners. Been heavily pondering whether to stump up the cash for EA's Army of Two? Then hold on to your money till tomorrow because a demo's out April 1.
Yep, unfortunately for those only owning PS3s, the demo is an Xbox 360 exclusive. Expect a co-op training missions bundled with action in Somalia in the taster. The full game is available already from your local games emporium.
"Everything that we loved about the game before is still great - including the essential co-op mode, the blinging weapon customisation and the brilliant slow-mo back-to-back bits. Equally, the removal of many of the game's irritations makes for a far smoother ride", PSM 3 magazine said in its favourable review of Army of Two.

Age ratings board the BBFC has told MCV that GTA IV has been given an 18 certificate, after initially banning fellow Rockstar title Manhunt 2.
The confirmation means that Grand Theft Auto IV is all set for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 on April 29th.
The news comes in the immediate aftermath of the Byron Review, in which age ratings for games have been under extreme scrutiny – from sources as diverse as the national media, the Government and, well, Anne Diamond.
