The film adaptation of Epic's Gears of War has been slated for release in 2010.
"We've got our script on and a director we're about to attach. We'll hopefully make that early next year for the summer of 2010", Twilight producer Wyck Godfrey has told ComingSoon.net.
It was revealed in March 2007 that New Line Cinema has nabbed the rights to a Gears movie, with Stuart Beattie handling the script.
Beattie later described the Gears movie as being an "enormous film".
"There's no way to build that world any other way, really", he said. "That's a huge world. It's a planet and it's a bubble and it's a building. It's an epic sci-fi war and an enormous film. To get it made at all, the only way to make it for a price is to be on a soundstage. But the game also has that look, which is really interesting, so I think it will dovetail really nicely", he said.

The shows will be around ten minutes long and focus on genres that appeal to the core male 14-34 year-old Xbox Live user base. Safran Digital Group intends to recruit established filmmakers for the productions but isn’t planning on recruiting major movie stars.
The shows, some of which will be supported by advertising, will be available exclusively via the Xbox Live platform beginning this fall, although they may become available on other formats at a later date, reports The New York Times.
“The Xbox is unique. It operates at a level outside of what we generally consider Web entertainment,” said Safran.
Scott Nocas, global marketing manager for Xbox Live programming, said that the company hopes to announce more original video programming for platform. “We definitely look at this as the first of many,” he said.

A demo of Sports Interactive's latest Football Manager has appeared on Xbox Live, in case you couldn't find it in the shops this weekend or just plain had the wobblies over whether to buy it or not.
The demo (which doesn't appear to be available outside of Europe) lets you play half a season with 14 countries, after which you'll have to run off to Woolies to sample the rest of the statty footie goodness.
The 360 version boasts the same feature set as the already-available Football Manager 2008 on PC, except you can now challenge friends to one-on-one matches and host tournaments on Xbox Live. First though, you'll have to get the Ethernet cable to the shed without the missus noticing.

After the HD DVD format was declared dead, Microsoft's Steve Ballmer hinted that they might be including Blu-ray support in the Xbox 360.
Industry pundits starting wondering whether they would produce a Blu-ray add-on for the gaming machine or if they would produce a new Blu-ray complaint Xbox 360 system altogether. As it turns out, neither will be the case.
Xbox 360 group product manager Aaron Greenberg is now saying that Blu-ray is not coming to the Xbox 360 at all, but consumers can still access high-definition content through Microsoft's Xbox Live online service. He reminds us that this is the only game console to do so. As you may know, Microsoft has stopped producing the HD DVD add-on for their game system.
The lesson to be learned here? Maybe it's not so smart to believe everything that the chair-throwing Ballmer has to say.

Heres just a little article I wrote on my blog, which Id thought Id share with the rest of you
I was a huge fan of the original Condemned, the story line was amazing, the in your face battle system was awesome and really added to the fear, the graphics were awesome, on the Xbox 360 I didn’t notice any jaggies, which is suprising!
If only I could say the same about the Condemned 2: Bloodshot, I have come across the save game bug, in which the saves are on the hard drive but are not detected by the game! Luckily, I have not come across any of the audio issues so many are complaining about. I hope a fix is released because I refuse to play back up to the area I was at, especially when it could happen again.
So the question remains, who’s to blame? Is it the publisher, Sega, who could have forced the game development times, to cash off what would have sold good in either state (See KotOR 2)? Or is it the developers, who were just to lazy to fix these problems, or to lazy to thoroughly have their game tested. Yes I realize not everyone will come across these problems, but their are more then 2 beta testers at Monolith, plus the copies the employees probably played. If not the save glitch, how do you let the audio sync issues which many are facing who choose to run their audio through HDMI?
I expected 2008 to be Sega’s redemption year, in which they would shape up, get their act together, and release quality games. So far they have released two big titles, Condemned 2: Bloodshot, and Viking: Battle for Askgard, although both met with good reviews they both have problems, like really bad glitches that can stop you from going any further. I still recommend you buy these games though, they will probably get patched, soon…

Recently Xbox Live Arcade has shown considerable potential as a home for shoot 'em ups, from the Forgotten Worlds-channeling Omega Five to monochrome shooter Ikaruga's looming release. However, to hear talk from 5pb, the devs charged with bringing Cave's nefarious DoDonPachi series as well as its latest shooter Ketsui to XBLA's digital frontier, the platform still has a few nagging hang ups keeping it from becoming a beacon for shmups.
Echoing N+ developer Metanet's recent comments concerning what does and does not make it to the service, 5pb spoke out about similar frustrations in the latest issue of Famitsu, revealing that both of its ports of DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label X and Ketsui X had been summarily rejected for release over XBLA, with Microsoft claiming that it's "going to cut down on faithful arcade ports." Only faithful ones?
We agree that there is certainly a glut of arcade nonsense on XBLA, but this is equivalent to throwing the baby out with the bathwater. 5pb and Cave are reportedly now working to bring both games to market through traditional retail channels in a defiant effort to show Microsoft "that their decision was wrong." Now all we need is a publisher with an eye for niche Japanese releases to pick the games up for release outside of Japan. Altus, are you listening?

First, here are the promised slides for my Breakpoint 2008 presentation about “Gaming Consoles for demosceners”: breakpoint-2008-slides.pdf
Then, I’ve updated my GPU library a bit. The biggest thing was a rewrite of the interface, so now it’s all encapsulated into a nice API. I’ve also added some features (stencil buffer ops, drawing with index buffers), and fixed a LOT of bugs (for example vfetch patches on more complex shaders). The updated GPU library, included the mentioned “spinning cube” example, is available here: gpu-0.0.5.tar.gz.
Also, I’ve ported some existing code to my library. A simple test scene looks like this:This is a per-pixel lighting shader with stencil-based shadow volumes - and obviously 3 cubes. I thought it looked nice enough to put it here.

When it makes it to Business Week, I think it's time to comment. Many people are talking about the Master Chief mod for Unreal Tournament 3, that allows you to play in the character of the Master Chief on the PS3. Many people are surprised Microsoft is "allowing" this.
Actually it's nothing more than the Game Content Usage Rules in action. When these were developed, people all thought they were focused on machinima. The truth is that while they do address machinima they also allow for a lot of other things. Mods like this are one of them. The developers aren't selling the mod, they're not monetizing Microsoft's IP, they're just creating something to share their love of the Master Chief on a new platform. It's a great thing for us and a great thing for the gaming community. And much though I love my friends at Epic, Unreal Tournament isn't Halo. This will also remind people of just how great the Halo games are and remind them that if they're done with the user-created faux-Halo experience, the real Halo is available only on the Xbox 360. And no one is taking characters from PlayStation games (do they even have any games?) and putting them on our platform...

March 24, 2008 - Last week SEGA ominously filed a new trademark for a property named Sonic Unleashed and now we have images to go along with the rumored name. Found earlier today the images that you'll find in our gallery appear to depict a new three-dimensional Sonic game similar to that of Sonic Adventure. We'd bet our bottom dollar that this new Sonic title is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 at the very least (based on the high-def screens), but we'll wait until SEGA officially makes a comments – something they've declined to do throughout today – to speculate any further. For now, enjoy the screenshots

Check out the vid here. Personally, it looks promising as its got a retro Genesis feel to it. Hopefully it will make up for the travesties the last few games have been.Coming for Wii, 360 and PS3!

A new video focusing on Silicon Knights' RPG Too Human video is up on Xbox Live and demanding your attention. Part of the video dips into the game's combat - which is "pulse-pounding", according to Microsoft.
It features commentary from Silicon Knights boss Denis Dyack and designer Henry Sterchi, who elaborate on Too Human's features "such as the multitude of customisation combinations, storyline elements and statistical tracking that make up the role-playing element, as well as the countless combinations of weapons and attacks that feed the action lover."
We'd be watching now if some cheeky sod hadn't run off with our Xbox 360 power cable. Seriously, you can't leave anything lying around these days.

Altus USA has released eleven new screenshots from Xbox 360 version of Spectral Force 3, a Japanese RPG destined to hit the States later this year.
From the looks of things, the game will be standard Atlus fare, with lots of stats, anime style characters and a stat-based RPG combat system.
Also from the screenshots, we've deduced the translation might well be unintentionally funny. "Wihdraw, Meufa! My holy sword will smite these ingrates!" Awesome.

Following the news of Ikaruga's imminent release on Xbox Live, another date of interest has emerged on Microsoft's official Japanese Xbox page. April 2 – or International Children's Book Day as it is sometimes known – is also the date for the release of Namco's Mr. Driller Online.
As spotted by the eagle-eyed inhabitants of the Neogaf forums, the date is remarkably close, though as yet we can't confirm whether it will also herald the release of the game in the West. Namco's cult favourite blockbuster was only recently announced for the Xbox 360's online service, and boasts four-player online play, as well as offline split-screen and both Standard Driller and Quest Driller for the solo player.

Command 3 director Adam Boyes thinks N+ developer Metanet was wrong to call the vast majority of games on XBLA rubbish.
Writing on the Capcom US blog, Boyes said the real problem is how the content is presented, not the content itself.
"There is good content up there, but the Yellow Pages system [alphabetised with numerical titles at the top] doesn't lend itself to a proper sorting mechanic that we are used to from Amazon or YouTube," he said.
"Instead of complaining that XBLA has hundreds of games that are 'utter sh**' and advocating a no-limit release of a billion craptastic games, I think we need to work on lobbying a better system for sorting games. After all, Sony already has sorting for 'Most Popular' on PSN..."
Boyes praised the "indefinite shelf space" of the service that makes a game always available, and said he appreciated the demo system that lets you try before you buy.
These demos, if you remember, were one of the problem areas picked out by Metanet, which claimed it "was unbelievably depressing for us to try literally 80 games and enjoy less than 8 of them".
As a result, Metanet relies on word of mouth and reviews, which puts us back in "retail land" and far from the "Mecca for small teams" that it envisioned at the beginning of XBLA.
Meanwhile, Boyes continued to laud the freedom of the service and how there was a game for everyone, including his wife.
But again, this was something Metanet was against. It argued that "casual games outnumber proper videogames", which leads to the "vast majority of titles" being disappointing.
Conflicting interests, then. But who is right and who is wrong?
Pop over to the Capcom US blog and the Metanet website to read more.

April 9 could well be the day that Ikaruga - the fantastic arcade shooter from Treasure - will arrive on Xbox Live Arcade.
So hinted a slip up on the Japanese Xbox.com site, which seemingly revealed the date earlier than was intended (quickly picked up by Japanese site Xbox-News).
The page on the official site has since been pulled, and MS UK offered no comment. Have some points ready anyway, though, just in case.
We've already blasted through the super-sweet high-res XBLA version, with full impressions and bullet-filled videos right here.

Rare has confirmed that the first Xbox 360 instalment in the Banjo-Kazooie series is on track for a Christmas release.
According to man-in-the-know George Kelion, posting on NeoGaf, "The game is scheduled for a holiday 2008 release - barring the coming of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, you should be playing Banjo 3 before the end of the year (providing you buy the game, that is)."
Kelion went on to confirm that Banjo's creator, Gregg Mayles, is lead designer on the game, and sought to calm fears it's going to be one for the kids.
"I can assure you that we haven't been focused on four year-olds when creating the new Banjo game," he wrote. "We hope that you'll be pleasantly suprised with what we've cooked up."
A teaser site for BK3 is up and running, for all the good it'll do you. "I really wouldn't base your ultimate judgements of the final Banjo model from what you've glimpsed on the teaser site if I were you," warned Kelion. "All shall be revealed in due course, not that long to wait now."

Earlier today, a video of the rumored "classic edition" of Resident Evil 4 appeared. The rumored game, set for PS3 and the XBOX 360, has already been debunked by Capcom. So, is this the real deal, or is it a well-planned April fools?(the day's coming up, folks.) I'll leave it up to you.

* When did you decide to take the steps that were publicly outlined today to punish people who are determined to be tampering with their game saves?
* We have always invested in upholding the Live Terms of Use through penalizing violations with user and or console bans. The method of having the individual's gamerscore reset is a more measured approach that addresses this particular form of behavior.
* How granular are your tools for determine whether someone, as your FAQ page states, "has earned achievements by using tools that circumvent the game or avoid game play entirely"?
* We look for abnormal Achievement and gamerscore activity using criteria that identifies members who have used external means to earn Achievements without really playing the game.
* Why did you decide to not only reset a player's Gamerscore, but also publicly label him or her a cheater? Is there any way for someone who has been so punished to have the scarlet "C" removed in the future?
* We want to make sure all Xbox Live members know there are consequences to violating the use of terms by cheating on the service. This label is primarily for verification to the user that yes, your gamerscore was reset due to cheating and can be observed on Xbox.com, and through the player's view of their gamercard on a console or PC connected to Xbox Live. Gamers who are labeled as 'cheaters' are still allowed to legitimately gain future Achievements and the player's experience doesn't change in any other way. Over time, we intend to remove the label - although the original achievements will remain reset. It is up to the individual player to prove that they won't do it again.
* Your adjudication process is secret, and you provide no means whatsoever for appeal, making it something of a star chamber. Aren't you concerned that in your zeal to punish the guilty, you may also ensnare the innocent?
* We only correct gamerscores for players who meet the criteria 100 percent. Like the vast majority of Xbox Live members, if you earn Achievements by playing through games like any other player, then you have nothing to worry about. Gamerscore correction only applies to players who use external means or avoid game play to earn Achievements.

A ray of hope from reader James--Microsoft was able to fix his broken XBOX Live account. Are they getting their act together? Maybe?
"I'm sending this in due to my experience with XBOX LIVE Support and Microsoft's broken XBOX LIVE DRM (Originally posted here)
I too, like Kevin, sent in my XBOX360 for repair after the RRoD, and was sent a brand new XBOX360 as a replacement. Now, mind you, I had my XBOX360 registered on their website for warranty information, so I could see when they sent a brand new one, because the Serial Number on my warranty information was updated before they even had the new box on the truck to me. This was late December / early January.
So I called XBOXLIVE support in February, and got the same runaround as Kevin- re-download it, restore your GamerTag, etc, etc, etc. They never once offered the re-licensing until I specifically asked for the points to re-download my content. Once they did, I got the same spiel as others in the previous thread; for those that weren't keeping up, Microsoft could "fix" the problem by re-licensing my old content to my new XBOX360's serial number. Of course, this lengthy process (CTRL + H being a difficult task for their XBOX LIVE department, but common knowledge to their warranty division) would take 20 - 30 days. Of course, having no other alternative, I told them to go ahead and do it and get it resolved already.
This was 32 days ago at this point. Monday morning I get a call from an unknown number, and the message on my voicemail was from XBOX LIVE, letting me know that the re-licensing has been resolved, and all I need to do is re-download my older purchased content to the new XBOX360.
