Twisted Pixel Games will be offering The Maw on Xbox Live Arcade from Wednesday 21st January.
This action-adventure outing costs 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) and puts players in charge of alien Frank, who happens to be best friends with Maw, a leashed blob that eats and grows.
Guiding the hungry beast around forms the central theme of the game, which also boasts plenty of puzzles plus a full and pretty 3D world to solve them in.
As a mark of quality, The Maw was picked out as a Penny Arcade Expo (PAX 10) Audience Choice Award winner, and also an Independent Games Festival (IGF) 2009 finalist. Can't be too rubbish, then.
We'll offer our thoughts soon. Until then, head over to The Maw gallery for the latest screenshots, here.

Bethesda has said Operation: Anchorage will be available for Fallout 3 from 27th January.
This, the first of three chunky DLC packs, will cost 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) from Xbox Live Marketplace and Games for Windows Live.
There's no extra content for PS3 owners, sadly, due to an exclusivity agreement with Microsoft.
The date arrives as Bethesda releases a long-awaited patch addressing numerous bugs in all three versions of the post apocalyptic role-playing game.
You can find a full list of updates over on the official Fallout 3 site, plus a download link for those playing on PC.
Operation: Anchorage adds a military simulation mission that whisks players back to a very different pre-nuclear wasteland world where Chinese invaders need repelling. Adventurers will fit into a tightly run special ops team and have to survive within the rules of the training program. We'd rather fit into tight Spandex, but beggars can't be choosers.
There's around five hours of content on offer, plus a new perk and plenty of unique items and weapons to collect.
Operation: Anchorage will be followed by The Pitt in February and Broken Steel in March. The former adds an industrial raider town to investigate, while the latter recruits players into the Brotherhood of Steel and bumps the level cap up to 30. Broken Steel can be played after finishing the main Fallout 3 campaign.

IGN has heard from multiple sources (both internally at LucasArts and elsewhere) involved in the long-in-development Indiana Jones title for Xbox 360 and PS3 that the game has been cancelled. Unofficially we've heard that developers are being reallocated to other projects and that the new Indiana Jones project that we last reported on in April 2006 is dead in the water.
If true, this should come as no real surprise as the game has gone dark for nearly the last three years, and with its total absence at last year's E3, this seemed like it was only a matter of time.
The official word from LucasArts public relations is the usual "We don't comment on rumors or speculation" line, but we're hearing otherwise from our sources. Stay tuned to IGN.com for more.

Daniel Petric, the Ohio teen who shot and killed his mother over a dispute involving Halo 3, was convicted today of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, and other charges related to the heinous crime.
As reported previously, Petric had purchased a copy of Halo 3 following his parents' Mark and Susan had forbid him to do so. After having the game confiscated, Daniel broke into his father's lock box, which held the game and a 9mm handgun, entered the living room of his house, asked his parents to close their eyes, and shot both of them in the head, killing his mother and wounding his father

In order to release Xbox 360 before its competitors, Microsoft killed the original Xbox at just four years old. November 2009 marks the four year anniversary of Xbox 360, but don't expect the system to become obsolete just yet. Microsoft's Robbie Bach told the San Jose Mercury News that the current generation will last longer than before. "The life cycle for this generation of consoles -- and I'm not just talking about Xbox, I'd include Wii and PS3 as well -- is probably going to be a little longer than previous generations."
The weakening economy will most likely delay the arrival of a new generation even further. "When you look at consumers, they are going to be more value-conscious," Bach said. A next-generation console released any time soon would be prohibitively expensive and no company wants to repeat the same mistake Sony made.Perhaps the "ten year" mantra won't necessarily be a PlayStation-exclusive PR bullet point.
The surprising success of Wii will undoubtedly make Microsoft refocus their next-gen efforts. Nintendo managed to claim the top spot of the console wars, in spite of having significantly less powerful tech. "Just coming up with something that's faster and prettier isn't going to be sufficient," Bach adds.

Look, no one is going to enjoy tomorrow's Knothole harvest if it's infested with bugs. So, Lionhead has dusted the crops, so to speak, and removed those icky pests from Fable 2 (read: automatic title update released). While the seeds were planted back in October, and some in-house sampling has been going on for the past month, it's only now that we all can enjoy the fruits of Lionhead's labour:
Title update patch notes
The Ritual/Monk's Quest -- "fixed the issue with the Abbott becoming unresponsive if you leave Oakfield before he finishes talking. This will fix the problem if you've already hit it, too."
Rescuing Charlie/Rescue My Baby -- "after rescuing Charlie, you can now interact with objects."
Guild Cave chest -- "resolves any issues with previous inability to retrieve items unlocked from Limited Collector's Edition, website or Chicken Kickin' game. If you've already hit this bug you should now get your items."
The Spire (Part 2) -- "no more issues with ship captain being unresponsive."
The Hero of Skill (Pirate King) -- "you'll no longer get stuck during Hero of Skill quest."
T.O.B.Y./Trouble In Bloodstone -- "you'll no longer get stuck during T.O.B.Y. quests."
Your child "will no longer be chosen as an assassination target."
Furniture Shop in Albion (Bowerstone) "will now always have something for sale."
Additional unspecified fixes
In addition, the "Tales of Albion" companion site has been updated with Knothole lore.

Finally, some Tomb Raider news that's about, you know, tombs. Specifically, the downloadable kind meant to extend Lara Croft's latest -- and commercially disappointing -- adventure, Tomb Raider Underworld. Eidos had promised two Xbox 360-exclusive episodes, with the first initially scheduled to arrive by Christmas. Unfortunately, the only thing to be released by developer Crystal Dynamics thus far are thirty employees.
Though an official post-delay date has yet to be confirmed by Eidos, retailer GameStop currently lists a Tomb Raider Underworld "Expansion Token Pack," which is said to contain two Xbox Live Marketplace Token cards. According to the product page, the pack will cost $19.99 and ship on Wednesday, January 21st. If we were prone to bouts of speculation, we'd say that the presence of two cards indicates that both DLC packs ("Beneath the Ashes" and "Lara's Shadow") will be released simultaneously on Xbox Live at a combined cost of 1600.
If we were prone to such silly things -- we'll let you know what Eidos has to say as soon as possible.

New for Xbox 360 XNA from DracoCepheus
While going through some of Riemer's terrain tutorials, I decided to create a few game components based on his work. This was a nice exercise in seeing how components and HLSL can work together. I thought I'd share the result with you guys. The zip file contains all the source and media.
Have fun with these! And a big THANK YOU to Riemer!

Remember Xbox 360 IPTV rollout? Though the wonderful fantasy of replacing our stodgy cable DVRs with an all-in-one Left 4 Dead playing / channel surfing beast has dried up like a raisin in the sun, Dave Zatz confirmed with Microsoft booth reps that BT is (still) planning on deploying the service, and despite the NXE the UI will retain the look of the current Motorola boxes pictured above. Now that U-Verse has delivered Total Home DVR and upgraded beyond 1 HD stream at a time, maybe they can get to work on this deployment next?

We recently played Dark Void again at CES in Capcom's suite at Planet Hollywood. We're not going to bore you with the details, as they'd probably be the same glowing ones we dropped on you during last year's E3. Graphics look even better, jetpacking around is still ridiculously enjoyable, etc.
But we simply had to pass on one of the new bits that Capcom told us as we attempted to wipe the stupidly giddy smile off our faces post-demo: They've added guns to the jetpack. Do you get what we're saying here? They took the most awesome invention since the light bulb, the jetpack, and bolted weapons to it. Besides tearing the space-awesome continuum to shreds, it also means man-on-alien-saucer dogfights are a possibility.
Man. On. Alien. Saucer. Dogfights. Let it sink in.

The exciting news that North American gamers will get Halo Wars a few days earlier than planned wasn't exactly news. It was a mistake. It's still landing on these shores March 3rd.
Yes, Microsoft's Robbie Bach misspoke during last night's CES keynote. Nowhere in the world is Halo Wars' release date February 28th. It's hitting Japan and Asia Pacific on February 26th; Europe, Middle East and Africa on February 27th; and it's waging war on the Americas on March 3rd.
We're pretty sure that February 5th release date for the demo is correct though. Microsoft reps haven't issued a correction on that.

Earlier this week, Sony sent us an oddly timed media bulletin, trumpeting the PlayStation 3's value versus the Wii and Xbox 360. It also accused Nintendo and Microsoft of "peddling add-ons." What say you, Microsoft?
"First, I would say we absolutely would not want to trade places with Sony," said Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for Xbox 360. "We feel like being half the price of the PS3 served us quite well this holiday."
"The fact that we're doing this at half the price of their platform, we feel confident that we're delivering great value," he added. "I believe that we deliver more value for games and entertainment than any other platform on the market."
Speaking to Greenberg at CES this morning, he expressed Microsoft's anticipation that the sub-$200 price point will give the Xbox 360 the majority of its sales. Greenberg namechecked Sony's success with the PlayStation 2 at the more mass market price, hoping to emulate its last-gen success.
"At the end of the day, consumers vote with their dollar," Greenberg said, adding that he expects to see Microsoft's console sales in December show growth over its 2007 performance, in anticipation of NPD sales data. "I don't think people take comparison grids into retail stores."
"I would rather talk about why you should buy our console than why you shouldn't buy the competitor's system."
We'll have more from our interview with Aaron Greenberg at CES later.

Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices Division (you know, Xbox), has reiterated for the ... well, we've lost track of the amount of times he's said Blu-ray isn't coming to the Xbox 360. Just for the sake of tradition, TechFlash asked the question again and Bach balked saying, "We have no plan to do that."
When pressed, Bach, having spiritually gone to his happy place, explained it's not a feature they get "a ton" of requests for. From a technical perspective it doesn't help the Xbox and it would raise the cost of the product. Bach emphasizes that HD content is available through Netflix and the Live Marketplace. Maybe Robbie will get lucky and the Blu-ray questions will end ... yeah, no chance.

So, it's not quite the "ZOMG Friends List Increase Confirmed" announcement that we hoped for but Xbox director Aaron Greenberg came as close as we've heard to revealing that it's in the works.
When we spoke to him at CES today (more on that later) Greenberg told us "I can't commit to when that will happen, but that is something we want to do. It's definitely something we're looking at expanding and, as this social network grows, we've absolutely heard the pleas for that. It's on the list."
Greenberg explained that original Xbox games were coded to be limited to 100 friends, and that limit was brought into the current generation. But now that Live is built in to the system, they've got a little more flexibility. We, and the thousands of potential friends we turn away daily, can't wait to hear more.
