The newer, cooler, less red-ring-of-deathy Jasper configuration of the 360 has been out since the holidays. If you want make damn sure that's what you're buying, Newegg is offering them virtually by name.
Ordering online or picking up in the store can be a crapshoot whether you get a Jasper as the new config filters into the supply and they're not in packaging labeled differently, or obviously, from older models.
Here Newegg is offering the Arcade bundle for $199 and calling out its 256MB of internal storage, which is code for OMG TEH JASPER.
If you have $200, in addition to the onboard storage, you'll get a savings on the power usage and a cooler-running machine. And, like, one that won't brick.

The folks at Rockstar don't seem to keen on the return of Niki Bellic's voice actor Michael Hollick, answering "Hell no!" to MTV Multiplayer's query about new lines for everyone's favorite Slavic bastard.
Grand Theft Auto IV voice actor Michael Hollick made waves last year when he complained to the New York Post about not being paid enough to voice the star of Rock Star's masterpiece, Niko Bellic. His complaints left a bad taste in the mouths of video game voice actors everywhere, and likely didn't make Rock Star too happy either - perhaps not happy enough to be adamantly against calling the actor in to record new dialog for the game's first DLC, The Lost And Damned.

It won't instill gamers with the same red-faced anger as EA's fizzled plan to offer for-pay weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company; instead, the newly released "Time is Money Pack" for Skate 2 will simply make those who buy it feel varying degrees of guilt, regret and perhaps even fear. That's because, for 400 ($5) on XBLM or $4.99 on the PlayStation Store, owners of the game can literally pay their way past the effort it would take to unlock everything in the game.
The "everything" in question includes "all locations, skaters and gear that can be earned by playing through Skate 2's career and online modes," according to the DLC's description. So, basically, you're paying for access to content that's already in the game. Or, to put it another way, you're paying five bucks for a cheat code. A downloadable code, if you will. Next thing you know, people will be paying for good grades and -- who knows -- even Senate seats. Oh, wait ...

If you've already blown through the myriad planets available in Q Entertainment's XBLA puzzler, Meteos Wars, good on you. It's good for you that the developer has released nine add-on levels today via the Live Marketplace, for the sum of 350 ($4.37).
Two of the planets are described as "entirely new to the series." "Wait," you say. "Aren't all of the stages new?" Nope -- not since the game was originally released on Nintendo DS, which is where these two "new" planets originated. And that concludes today's astronomy-economy lesson, class.

Putting the finishing touches on Halo Wars must be bittersweet for its developers. The long-awaited RTS game for Xbox 360 has gone "gold" today, just a few days before Ensemble Studio shuts its doors at the end of the month.
In addition to announcing the game's gold status, Microsoft released further details on Halo Wars downloadables. A video documentary that goes behind the scenes of the game can be downloaded from Xbox Live today. (Also available after the break) The playable demo will be available on February 5th at 5AM EST (2AM PST).
The demo will include beginner and advanced tutorials and the first two campaign missions from the story mode. The demo will also include "Chasms," one of the 14 multiplayer maps included in the full game. Players will be able to battle against the computer AI in Skirmish mode, playing as either the UNSC or the Covenant. No online play was mentioned in the release.

Microsoft's newly-announced layoffs and declining profits aren't the only bad news in Redmond -- according to the company's quarterly statements, Zune platform revenue decreased $100 million, or 54 percent compared to the same quarter last year, due to falling device sales. Mega-ouch. Not all is doom and gloom for the Entertainment and Devices Division, which continues to be profitable with a $151m haul: Xbox 360 and PC platform revenue increased six percent ($135 million) to $2,250 million. Meanwhile, Apple saw a three percent increase in iPod sales over the same period, so we're anxious to see what Microsoft has planned for reviving the social.

"The Mole" -- a favorite Ars Technica source for all things game related -- has some curiosity-piquing info on the possibility of a Resident Evil 5-themed Xbox 360 headed to market. So says the site's Deep Throat, not only will a demo version of the game come to US Xboxen first (a move that must seriously unnerve Sony), but following the sneak-peak will be an RE5 package hardcore fans should die for. Literally. According to Ars, the bundle will include a custom red Xbox (with matching controller), a copy of Resident Evil 5, a special NXE RE5 theme, and a bonus Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD download. Of course, this is pure rumor right now, but if this package comes to fruition, we can bet on at least a few zombie-loving members of the Engadget staff getting in line when it hits shelves. Make it happen, people.

New from Divineo UK
The CK3 Probe Add-on for the Xecuter Connectivity Kit 3 (Lite or Pro) is a tool that makes the process of extracting a key from a Lite-On drive totally solderless, without this tool the user would have to bridge the TX and RX points on the drive board with a soldering iron before they could use the CK3 to read from the drive. This tool is for those people that have never soldered before, but know how to flash and don’t want to risk using a cheap iron on their drive and make a mistake, or also for tech guys in a hurry this tool makes the process just that little bit faster.
The CK3 Probe is extremely simple to use and there are excellent step by step tutorials on the Team-Xecuter website. There are two LED's which indicate power to the CK3 Probe and also a successfull connection to the TX point on the Lite-On drive. The package includes the CK3 Probe and the cable that will connect it to the CK3 Lite or Pro

Microsoft has published details of seven new Achievements arriving with the Gears of War 2 update this month.
There's a potential 175 gamerpoints up for grabs, according to Xbox.com, and they're tied into winning on levels released in the Flashback and Combustible map packs.
Epic has yet to set a date for the patch, however, and boss Mark Rein warns that Achievement sightings are no clear indicator that change is imminent.
"Whenever new Achievements are added they will show up ahead of the update," said Rein on the Gears of War forum yesterday. "That's just the natural order of things."
"The update is still in testing and we don't have a firm date for its release yet. Hopefully we'll know soon"
Most of the update focuses on fixing online multiplayer bugs and exploits, such as hitting foes through walls and obtaining infinite Lancer ammo. Also, the shotgun should work better during high-latency matches now.
On top of that will are tweaks to the ruleset to punish early quitters more heavily and protect freshly respawned combatants from grenades and chainsaw attacks.
Those are only some of the fixes; a full list will arrive with the update.

CollidableModel is a fully integrated collision detection system for XNA. It consists of a content processor that can add collision data to arbitray models during the build stage. A set of runtime classes perform highly efficient mesh - sphere collision detection based on the pre-computed data. For average sized models (10k - 100k), the intersecting triangles can be usually determined in less than 1 ms.
The system is based on my previous samples, using a Binary Space Partitioning (BSP) tree as data representation. Note that it only works with static (not animated) models.
For more details, souce code, and a quick tutorial, see my homepage: http://www.theomader.com/public/collidable_model.html

Outrun: Online Arcade is being developed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I’m sure about the latter since that’s how I played Outrun: Online Arcade. However, if you’re in North America you can only get Outrun: Online Arcade on Xbox Live Arcade. Meanwhile in other regions like Europe and Asia Outrun: Online Arcade is a multiplatform downloadable title.
Wait, what? There have been some digital distributed games that had exclusivity in other countries, Mega Man 9’s WiiWare only release in Japan comes to mind, but not in North America. If a game is being made multiplatform we get every version. Well, except in the case of Outrun: Online Arcade. Did Sony Computer Entertainment America reject Outrun or did Microsoft secure it as an exclusive? Whatever happened between Sega, Microsoft, and Sony still yields the same result no Outrun: Online Arcade on PS3 here.
Oh, and if you’re in North America here’s another kick in the pants. Outrun: Online Arcade is coming in “spring” 2009 instead of “early” 2009. Sony Computer Entertainment Asia brought billboards that said Outrun: Online Arcade would be ready in January. Not sure if they’re sticking to that plan or if the game is going to be held back for a worldwide Xbox Live Arcade release.

In what seems to be one of the most generous packages of the new year, GameStop has listed a new, two-disc Mass Effect re-release due next month that includes the game, a documentary, trailers, music, design galleries and the Bring Down the Sky DLC, all for $19.99. We've contacted BioWare asking for more details, specifically if a deal this delectable is actually allowed to exist.
You know, Mass Effect may not have been the perfect sci-fi opus we were hoping for, but for $20, you'd have to have the heart of a Geth to be able to pass this up. ... And yes, that gag was brought to you by Wikipedia.

Io Interactive has sneakily announced its next title: Mini Ninjas, which is coming to current-gen consoles, DS and PC this fall. The developer, whose last project was the site-imploding Kane & Lynch, appears to be going down a far more charming path with its latest title. Quite a departure from the gritty adventures of the aforementioned duo and Hitman's Agent 47, isn't it?
Mini Ninjas has already been rated E10+ by the ESRB, and Io's general manager believes the game has "exceptional appeal" for both young and old alike. Check out the gallery below (and preview trailer after the break) to see if you think Mini Ninjas will bloom like a lotus blossom later this year.
