Following the announcement detailing the Xbox 360 launch titles available in Europe in December, Microsoft has revealed its US software package, which includes an additional three games on the shelves from day one.
In addition to the fifteen titles heading for Europe, US gamers will be able to buy Ridge Racer 6, NBA 2K6 and NHL 2K6 when the next generation console launches throughout North America on November 22nd.
2K Games had initially intended to offer the NBA and NHL games in both territories from launch, though it seems the conversion from NTSC to PAL formats has taken a little longer than anticipated. The company has managed to complete the snowboarding title, Amped 3, which is confirmed as a launch title in both the US and the EU.
Both territories will have instant access to the improved Xbox Live service, including new casual games and downloads from the Xbox Live Arcade service. Accessories and console face-plates available from day one will also be similar in the US and Europe.
The full US launch day line-up of 18 titles consists of:
Amped 3
Call of Duty 2
Condemned: Criminal Origins
FIFA Soccer 06 Road to 2006 FIFA World Cup
GUN
Kameo: Elements of Power
Madden NFL 06
NBA 2K6
NBA Live 06
Need for Speed Most Wanted
NHL 2K6
Perfect Dark Zero
Peter Jackson's King Kong
Project Gotham Racing 3
Quake 4
Ridge Racer 6
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Microsoft confirmed that several further titles, including Dead or Alive 4, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Ridge Racer 6 are due to hit European shores "in the weeks after launch and beyond." To date, confirmation on the software titles available for the Japanese console launch on December 10th has yet to be announced.

The first reviews for Xbox 360 games are starting to hit the web! 1UP has reviewed Kameo, Project Gotham Racing 3, FIFA Soccer 2006, NBA 2K6, and Amped 3, while IGN has reviewed Madden NFL 06, Kameo, and NBA 2K6. Judging from both sets of reviews, it looks like Project Gotham Racing 3 - which scored a 10/10 on 1UP - is the only sure winner of the 360 launch games thus far

YOU GOTTA love the PR hype and mud slinging that goes on during the run up to a really, really major competitive product launch. Sony and Microsoft are at loggerheads over their upcoming next-generation releases, and while we have all the tech specs (relatively) nailed and the hype about what will make each console Gods Gift to 14 Year Olds, what about the actual direction in which the two companies are pulling their franchises?
I attended an Xbox 360 briefing in my native Dublin last night and as well as seeing the pretty colours and the lovely logo plastered across the screens in front of me I had a chance to sit down - well, more stand around - with Xbox’s head honcho in the UK & Ireland Stephen McGill, and during our discussions he enlightened me as to where Microsoft thinks it's going with the Xbox 360.
First and foremost, the Xbox 360 is the centrepiece of Microsoft’s design to catch younger gamers with its media centre experience, making Microsoft the centrepiece of the living room by controlling everything from gaming to music to films.
It wants the Xbox 360 to be able to hook up to everything from iPods to PSPs and make it the centrepiece of the living room as opposed to simply the games console for the kids stashed underneath or on top of the TV.
Connectivity is Microsoft’s new aim and it will be providing a basic version of its Xbox Live! service free of charge to all users. This will allow players to interact by doing things such as chatting and listening to music together, and players on the "Gold" version of the service, which we were told will be priced roughly the same as the current Xbox service, will be able to play games and track stats.
Players will have identity cards that will allow them to track the likes of friends easily as well as find similarly skilled opponents for play. This will also allow parents to control who their children interact with online, and the strict family filtering systems that Microsoft has lined up for the Xbox 360 will give total parental control over what types of games their kids play, who they play them with and how much coffee they drink. Or something like that.
On the matter of the competition, McGill admitted that Sony has a strong product in the PlayStation 3, saying that it’s like comparing two Ferraris when squaring them off against one another. He believes however that Microsoft has the stronger product in terms of how it uses its system, with the XML development standard providing a much easier framework in which developers can make their games over the PS3.
There may be some credence to this idea as Sony did buy the standardised and relatively easy-to-use Unreal 3 engine for sublicensing during the week, but at the same time the man is PR for the Xbox 360 so we’ll wait to see what developers themselves say about the two systems.
We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks as the pre-launch hype machine gears up a notch, though McGill did leave me feeling pretty confident about the Xbox 360’s ability to succeed. Whether or not this means the console will deliver the goods or if the man simply deserves a bonus for making me feel so warm and fuzzy on the inside remains to be seen, but he did give me a lot of new things to think about over and beyond how many teraflops the console can pull out of the hat. µ

About two weeks ago I was testing out the new Xbox 360 in Ebgames down here in Orillia Ont. My dream came true on a thursday when me and my buddies went to the mall to eat breakfest and saw the xbox 360 just sitting there. So after we ate we went and tested out the 360. Man was it ever a sweet system, the game they had on there was CALL OF DUTY 2 for the 360. When playing this game on the Samsung LCD TV it was like a dream come true. Everything you ever wanted to have was there, surround sound and and much much more. The game was wonderfully brought to life in 360 it made our eyes open up in amazement to see what it really does. But for along time now Microsoft said they were going to redifine the way we think and play the games, but it turns out that they went in the inbetween section of the conoles. The interactions between the game Call Of Duty 2 were not that good, because they mostly went after the graphics and the gameplay. Most of the interactions in the game felt like I was playing Call Of Duty on the original xbox with better graphics and gameplay. Don't get me wrong the game is sweet with the graphincs and gameplay but when you really look at it your just playing a game with graphics and gameplay and no interactions

November 14th, 2005, 20:06 Posted By: wraggster
Early last month, we floated the theory that the Xbox 360’s single price point in Japan points to both a desire to give Japanese consumers a price break ($337 at today’s exchange rates for the nicer bundle!) and to ease supply issues.
The image to the right comes from a large Toys-R-Us with no Xbox section in Tokyo, Japan. To purchase your Xbox 360 there, grab a ticket, make a deposit of just $8.47 US, and you can come back on launch day and pick up your 360.
Simple enough. But judging from the number of tickets still in that pouch, Japanese consumers who visit that Toys-R-Us store aren’t biting. The complete lack of shelf space certainly doesn’t help sell the console. What’s it look like? Why should I plunk down 1000 yen for a product I can’t even see? Would you buy a console based on a display that consists of a little pouch filled with tickets? The American launch includes kiosks at retailers in every city. Maybe Japanese consumers don’t put much stock in kiosk displays and they were therefore determined to be a poor investment?

Microsoft has unveiled the full list of Xbox 360 game software and accessories that will be available on December 2nd, the same day that the next-generation console launches in Europe.
Topping the bill are Rare's action adventure Kameo: Elements of Power and shooter Perfect Dark Zero. Project Gotham Racing 3 will also hit the shelves on launch day, along with Activision's Call of Duty 2, Tony Hawk's American Wasteland and Quake 4, plus Condemned: Criminal Origins from Sega.
Electronic Arts will publish four sports titles on December 2 - FIFA 06, Madden NFL 06, NBA Live 06 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 - along with Need for Speed: Most Wanted.
2K Sports' snowboarding sim Amped 3 will also get a launch day release, as will Ubisoft's movie tie-in, Peter Jackson's King Kong.
Microsoft has confirmed that all the titles on the list will be available "on or before the console launch," billing the line-up as "the broadest and deepest retail launch line-up in console history."
However, three key titles are missing from the list - namely Dead or Alive 4, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Ridge Racer 6. These are due to hit stores "in the weeks after launch and beyond," according to Microsoft.
Accessories on sale come December 2 will include Xbox 360 faceplates, wireless and wired controllers, a rechargeable battery pack, a wireless networking adapter and headset. Consumers will also be able to pick up a universal media remote and a variety of connection cables, and those who have purchased the "core" system can buy a 20GB hard drive or 64MB memory unit separately. The core system will retail for GBP 209.99, while the hard drive-bundled console will be priced at GBP 279.99.
Xbox 360 owners will also be able to access the Xbox Live Arcade from launch day, with "between 12-15 bite-sized game titles" available. These will include strategy, retro, action, puzzle and board games, and users will have the option to download trial versions of each title.
"The next generation of gaming begins on 2 December in Europe, and there has never been a more exciting time to be a gamer. Xbox 360 will deliver mind-blowing experiences across multiple genres, no matter what your personal gaming preferences are," said Microsoft's Chris Lewis.
"We're excited to be able to confirm this diverse games line-up for day one, but it's only the beginning. Gamers everywhere will be overwhelmed with the pipeline of amazing Xbox 360 games yet to come."

th0mas (d0wnlab) released a new Windows build of OpenDash (an opensource dashboard currently in development for xbox that can be built with the legal OpenXDK some time ago.
quote:
am releasing another windows build of OpenDash. It includes updates on the previous release such as:
* Skin/config separation. Now skins exist in seperate directories. They can also be loaded on the fly from within the dash.
* multiline text messages
* copying files/directories with progress bar display
* internationalization
It contains a demo skin made by myself, as well as a copy of Pred@tor's skin.
I am in the process of registering a sf.net project to host the code, so that the code exists in a central CVS repository instead of my hard disk. People interested in contributing should talk to me. An xbox release will be soon, but don't get too excited - there are still a couple bugs with the xbox build that I haven't been able to fix just yet, and a number of features that are not yet stable.

Following up on the release of the Jump In ad here in the States, Microsoft’s Major Nelson has linked to two new Japanese ads that continue the brand driven, gameplay-less, form. One shows giant Xbox360 logos floating in the sky while the other reiterates the “Ring of Light” theme. All three are attractive and intriguing, but is the plan to not show gameplay going to work? Will people buy the 360 on brand alone?
Warning: videos are in Windows Media 10 format only, so Mac users need not apply.
Also, there is a mention in the comments on Major Nelson’s blog about another Jump In 360 commercial with waterballoons, and they give a Mac friendly link.

So we learned today that the 360 runs just about everything in the XBox back catalog—especially “best-selling” XBox games—and it will basically emulate everything in software. That’s a pretty unusual but sassy solution, I suppose, and it will be tres cool to play Halo every once and a while.
So far, they’ve confirmed about 200 titles. How will you get the emulation software? Glad you asked:
What I’m really proud to tell you and your readers is that it’s easy to get the emulation software, and it’s free. We’ll give gamers a choice—you can get the latest software updates from Xbox Live, burn a CD from xbox.com or sign up on Xbox.com for a CD that can be delivered to your home at a nominal shipping and handling fee. Once you get the CD, put it in your Xbox 360 and you’re ready to go.

Microsoft has finally announced the list of the 213 Xbox 1 games playable on Xbox 360 at launch. A software emulator is required for each original Xbox game, which means you need an HDD for these games to work on Xbox 360. While it is expected that the list will grow in future via Live update, as of now it lacks first-party titles such as Project Gotham Racing, and other popular titles such as DOAU/X, Doom 3, Far Cry, KUF, Panzer Dragoon Orta, the Splinter Cell series, and the SW: Battlefront series." Xbox.com is also featuring an interview with Todd Homdahl about the quest for compatibility.

One of the features touted for Xbox 360 is its requirement for games to be 720p and 1080i HDTV resolutions, dubbed The HD Era by Microsoft. Today it's revealed and discussed in the official forum of Bizarre Creations, the Project Gotham Racing 3 developer, that in the final review build for PGR3 the in-game races are actually rendered in 1024x600 to get constant 30fps/2xAA. The game is stretched to 720p (1280x720) in the upscaler, which is faking HD at best." As always with late-night forum mutterings, imbibe with a grain of salt.

A US website has posted a list of what purports to be the official Xbox 360 launch title line-up.
The list covers 16 different games, including Gun, Quake 4 and Condemned. All of these games feature on a "confidential" document that Kotaku.com received from online retailer Best Buy.
When we quizzed Microsoft about the list, we were told that they would "look into it" but had no official comment to make at this time.
We'll keep you updated on any further developments but, until we hear anything else, here's the 'official' list of Xbox 360 launch games in full:
Amped 3
Call of Duty 2
Condemned
FIFA 2006: Road to the FIFA World Cup
Gun
Kameo Elements of Power
King Kong
Madden NFL 2006
NBA 2K6
NBA Live 2006
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Perfect Dark Zero
Project Gotham Racing 3
Quake 4
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006
Tony Hawk American Wasteland
Xbox 360 will be released in the UK on 2 December

Next-gen gamers can add Stroggicide to the list of possibilities of Xbox 360 launch day activities. Activision today announced that Quake 4 for the Xbox 360 will be among the games available on November 22, the day the console hits stores. In fact, the game ships on November 18 and will be one of several that will be available before the 360 is on shelves.
Microsoft Game Studios' Kameo: Elements of Power is already in retail, and the publisher's other two games, Project Gotham Racing 3 and Perfect Dark Zero, are also scheduled to ship before November 22. Online retailers also have prelaunch release dates for several other games, including Gun, Call of Duty 2, and Need for Speed Most Wanted. Microsoft has not yet released a list of games that will be ready in time for the next-gen system's launch.
The crux of Quake 4 will be identical to the PC version, which was released October 18. In this fourth installment in the series, Rhino Squad member Matthew Kane and his troop are sent to Stroggos to slaughter the Stroggs on their home turf. It's not just guns, guns, and more guns in Quake cuatro; this time there are hover tanks and mechanized walkers in the mix. In addition to the single-player campaign, an arena-style deathmatch mode supports up to eight players over Xbox Live.
Quake 4 will ship with some bonuses for hardcore Quake fans, including a reengineered version of Quake II that supports four-player co-op and eight-player head-to-head action. Behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the game is thrown in for good measure.
