I've just aquired Slayers auto installer 2.6. I would like to know how i use this disc to retore my original ms dash?
I've softmodded my xbox with EVOX but half-way down the page there is a MS dash button but when i scroll down to it, it just goes over it and onto the next one, as if it has been disabled.
My xbox is a UK release 1 and the dash has never been updated. Could this have something to do with?
Thats why I have the auto installer disc, i've heard it can restore your original MS dash so you can swap between EVOX and Ms dash.
Anybody know how to?
Thanks
Chris

Platform holder Microsoft may face a new piracy threat, as reports surface of ten Xbox 360 development kits being stolen from a warehouse in Duren, Germany, with the hardware believed to have fallen into the hands of hackers.
According to an article on Spiegel Online, the shipment of ten dev kits was delivered to a warehouse in Germany in unmarked packaging. The kits were supposed to be distributed onwards to developers in order to create games for the new console platform.
A few days after the shipment went 'missing', photographs of the kits appeared on the Internet, with the serial numbers edited out. Police raids in Austria and Germany recovered three of the units, but seven kits remain untraced at present as the investigation continues.
Microsoft's original Xbox console was plagued by piracy and modification, including the installation of mod chips which bypassed DVD region encoding and copyright protection measures. Pirated software and modified games which gave players an unfair advantage in Xbox Live matches have also been prolific on the Xbox.
In a recent interview with Gamespot.com, Microsoft's chief executive J Allard suggested that piracy on the new console was a given, which the company has already accounted for.
"The philosophy that we applied on 360 is 'It's going to happen," he said.
Allard also hinted that the inevitable bypass of security measures was less important to Microsoft from a financial perspective, but significant in its potential to ruin the online multiplayer experience for genuine customers.
The improved community gaming and media functionality of Xbox Live is a key strength of the new console, which Microsoft is hoping will attract a wider audience of casual gamers when the new console launches in Europe on December 2nd, 2005.

from GIBiz
Xbox corporate VP J Allard has confirmed that while Microsoft is doing all it can to meet demand for Xbox 360 at launch, there will be "some disappointment" for retailers and consumers.
Speaking to our sister site Eurogamer.net at the X05 event in Amsterdam, Allard said there was an ongoing discussion around the "allocation issue": "It's a dialogue with the retailers, and it's not just by territory, it's also by country, and so at an event like this we can actually get some feedback from the retailers... So we can adjust our allocations."
Allard blamed the potential for shortages on the constraints of trying to develop silicon techniques and include the most advanced technologies within the 360, adding that any such shortages will not be concentrated in specific regions.
"We decided we're going to take a little bit of heat on allocations, frankly, in all the territories rather than take a lot of heat in one or two territories," he said.
"So, we're not saying Europe comes four months later, we're saying Europe comes now, but with that combining it with the physics properties of the silicon means we're going to have some disappointment in terms of what we can provide to retail and ultimately to the consumers this year."
"But that's okay, because we want to get the market started. We want to get started on a worldwide basis, we want to do the right thing for gamers, for our publishers and for consumers," Allard added.
He went on to concede that the Xbox 360 launch won't go without a hitch - admitting that there are "logistics issues" to be dealt with.
"Do I think [the launch] will go flawlessly? I don't, but I think it's the right thing to do."
"It's never fun to work really really hard and then get heat from the media, from retailers, from the consumer because we didn't have enough of the things or because something wasn't quite as perfect as we'd like it to be in our execution, but the team signed up for it, because it's the right thing to do."
Allard declined to offer any details of the 360's launch day software line-up but did confirm that Microsoft is hoping for "All three of the first party titles to be there on day one."
"We're hoping, though. We're not going to sacrifice quality to do it," he said.
"If something's not ready we'll hold it back... I mean these games are not far from being done, and if they're three weeks after the launch or they're on launch day I don't think it makes a significant difference."

Opendash update-->
Just a quick note on what's going on. Currently getting OpenDash running on xbox in good condition. I'm still haunted by circumstantial input handling - sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. Development is very stuttered due to schoolwork and the beginnings of my honours project - a port of eCos to a ARM7 computer that is going to be part of a nano-satellite in the spring.

Hi
I'm getting ready to soft mod my xbox so I went out today and bought an action replay with the 8mb memory card but now I have a problem.
Im using the splinter cell hack and I can only transfer over one of the two files as I seem to run out of memory. Is there anyway I can get both of these files onto this memory card?
Thanks

Hi im pretty new to this, I now have enough information to soft mod my xbox.
Im just wondering how I go about putting emulators on my xbox?
Do I have need boxplorer, or will my soft mod dash have a file explorer. Is it possible to put emulators straight from my pc to xbox using my action replay memory card?
Or if I have an image for the emulator, could I burn it to a CD/DVD and extract it from CD/DVD to my xbox?
Like I said, im new to this so I have a lot of questions.
Thanks
Chris

With the launch of the Xbox 360 looming near, Microsoft's chief Xbox officer Robbie Bach has spoken of the firm's commitment to the original Xbox platform - with software launches expected into 2007.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Bach said that "we're definitely going to ship Xbox hardware units into 2006. We've been very clear with publishers that we want them to do titles through 2006 and even into 2007."
He also revealed that Microsoft has been in discussion with key retailers to ensure that Xbox is not removed from the shelves to make way for the Xbox 360 when it arrives at the end of November.
"We're working with our retailers on shelf space, displays, and keeping interactives in stores," he said. "There are some space constraints but we'll manage around them - most of the retailers are actually expanding their shelf space, so I think that will be quite good."
However, Bach doesn't expect there to be any price drop to the Xbox in the near future, saying that the firm is "quite happy" with the level of demand for the console at its current $149 / 149 Euro price point.
He confessed that the Xbox hardware has never broken even over its lifespan, but argued that this has been something that Microsoft had planned for from the outset.
"We didn't design the hardware to be a break-even endeavour over the life cycle, we designed it to be the most powerful console, and to have an impact," he said. "We think it did that successfully, and it just required us to fund that. Now with Xbox 360 we have the opportunity to make that investment pay off. "

October 7th, 2005, 21:43 Posted By: wraggster
Xbox corporate VP J Allard has criticised Nintendo's "freestyle" Revolution controller, claiming that he had a similar idea which was rejected after consultation with gamers and developers.
Speaking to US website Gameinformer, Allard said the controller was "Well intentioned" but argued that he couldn't see it being used to play sports or racing games.
"I don't think most Electronic Arts games are going to be played with that thing, I think they're going to be designed for the classic controller," he added.
"Four years ago I wrote an email treaty and said, 'Why aren't accelerometers in remote controls? Why can't I scroll down my channel guide with a gesture instead of up, up, up, up?"" Allard revealed.
"We did a lot of research with gamers, talked to a lot of game developers and said, 'Should we put an accelerometer in there and do the tilt thing?' And there wasn't that much enthusiasm around it."
Allard did note that the Xbox 360 remote control features A, B, X and Y buttons, and confirmed that "You're going to be able to play casual games on Live Arcade with the remote control."
He also conceded that Nintendo could make good use of the controller in first party games, and that it could prove a hit with gamers as a result. He went on to praise Nintendo for its innovation, suggesting that Microsoft might also consider producing a simplified controller in the future.
"Remote control, that's great," Allard said. "Let's take it one step further and do a simple controller. We've talked about it. I like the idea."
But that doesn't mean Allard is sold on Nintendo's version - "I don't know if I like the implementation because it ain't my remote."
"How am I going to watch a movie on Revolution? Am I going to have a different remote than that or am I going to have to use the four colored buttons?"
Allard's comments suggest he is less keen on the Revolution controller than fellow Xbox VP Peter Moore - speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at the Tokyo Game Show last month, Moore said he wanted to "give kudos" to Nintendo, adding that he could see how the device might bring lapsed gamers back to gaming and attract new consumers.
Allard hit back at critics of Microsoft's decision to offer two versions of the Xbox 360 in a separate interview with Edge Online, claiming that the move will be welcomed by consumers.
"Consumers like choice, and it's a very pro-consumer move on our part," he told the website.
"You buy the Xbox 360 Core system, you can build up to the premium system and you won't be left out of anything along the way. You can pace into this however you want, unlike any of the traditional categories," he said, citing the iPod Shuffle as an example of a piece of technology that can't be upgraded - leaving consumers who want an iPod Photo "screwed."
"There isn't a game on 360 that you can't play without a hard drive, so I think that's a good thing for consumers. We've made a commitment to broadening the audience," Allard stated.
He went to concede that some developers may have been disgruntled to learn that not all Xbox 360 consoles would come with a hard drive as standard, telling Edge Online: " Sometimes doing the right thing means doing the hard thing."
"Are there developers who are disappointed? Yeah, sure... It was a difficult one. I was the biggest fan of the hard drive and its potential, but the problem is that we sold 22 million Xbox consoles and 5 million, maybe 10 million just don't care about it."
But Microsoft picked up the tab for those unused hard drives, Allard pointed out - which raised the question of who should pay this time around.
"We can either ask the gamer to pay for it, pay for it ourselves, or prove that there's enough value in it and have the gamer say 'I want to pay for it'," he said, adding: "I think that's the right model."
"You know, being first you sometimes get some crap, and we've had some crap," Allard concluded.
"But I think it's very pro-consumer and very pro-developer, and I think that in five years everybody will look back and say that this was a very, very good move on our part to launch worldwide and to have the flexibility for consumers to decide on their products."

Microsoft said it was going to be taking the Xbox Live service to the next level with the Xbox 360, and the company looks to make good on that right out of the gate. Today, Microsoft and GarageGames announced the first exclusive Xbox Live Arcade title for the Xbox 360, Marble Blast Ultra.
Marble Blast Ultra is the latest in GarageGames's Marble Blast series, an online arcade action game in which players navigate their marbles through moving platforms and dangerous hazards while collecting gems and power-ups. The game was designed with players of all ages in mind.
Gamers will likely need a hard drive-equipped Xbox 360 in order to download the game. A GarageGames spokesman said Marble Blast Ultra technically would be able to fit on a memory card, but only if the Xbox Live Arcade architecture would allow downloads directly to memory cards.
A specific release date hasn't been named, but the game should be available around the system's launch window. Pricing information for the game has not yet been released.

Microsoft has shed a little more light on backwards-compatibility on Xbox 360 revealing that a number of Xbox games will be playable 'out the Xbox 360 box' - sort of.
Speaking recently to GameInformer.com, Microsoft's Peter Moore has commented that Microsoft "will probably be in a position in about two weeks" to post a list of Xbox games that'll be playable on its next-gen console at launch on Xbox.com, although how many titles will populate this list isn't mentioned. Neither have game names.
Moore goes on to say that this list "will grow and grow and grow" and will "get updated as more and more games get through certification", suggesting that the company may be planning a larger backwards-compatible catalogue than previously expected.

Microsoft's chief Xbox officer Robbie Bach has thrown down the gauntlet to rival platform holder Sony, telling GamesIndustry.biz that the firm is ready for Sony to say "which market, what date" for the launch of PlayStation 3.
Speaking at the X05 event in Amsterdam this week, Bach said that Sony's vagueness about its plans for PlayStation 3 meant that Microsoft couldn't say for sure what size of lead it wanted to have in the market by the time the rival system arrives.
"Instead, really what I say is, whenever they launch, I'm ready," the bullish Microsoft executive commented. "They should just tell me which market, what date, and I'm happy to be there - and we'll already be in that market, it turns out."
Bach also reiterated Microsoft's claim that Xbox 360 is just as powerful as the PlayStation 3, which will launch at least six months after the arrival of the Microsoft next-generation system.
"I think the reality will be that a game on Xbox 360 and a game on PS3, that's cross-platform, the power that they're going to get from the PS3 and the power that they're going to get from the Xbox 360 are going to be about the same," he said.
"You know, we've done the math. We have silicon engineers too. We've done the math on their specs and our specs and we think they're about the same."

Microsoft has said we can expect to see "15 to 20" titles available when Xbox 360 launches in the US next month, although the only titles it's prepared to confirm are the five announced by EA yesterday morning and its three first-party headliners Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero.
According to director of platform marketing David Reid, the reason Microsoft did not announce a concrete list of launch titles during last night's main address is that they are "currently in the final stages of certification".
Speaking in the boozy aftermath of the main X05 address, Reid told US website GameSpot, "there will be 15 to 20 Xbox 360 titles available on launch day," followed by half a dozen or so more by the end of the year. Along with its first-party titles and EA's launch prospects, others will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Microsoft's Robbie Bach had previously told the X05 audience to expect the "best games and launch line-up" of any console to date.
Confusion reigned for a short while after the conference when a Microsoft press release headlined "Xbox 360 Launch line-up announced" appeared on a number of US websites verbatim. Closer inspection revealed that just Gotham, Kameo and Perfect Dark were confirmed for the "Christmas portfolio", with the rest of the release given over to details of other games shown at the event.
Those included a brand new exclusive RPG from Bioware called Mass Effect, as well as multiformat titles expected to "lead on Xbox 360" including a new Castle Wolfenstein game from id and Raven Software and Splinter Cell 4 from Ubisoft.
Other titles confirmed for or demonstrated on Xbox 360 at the event included Eidos' Tomb Raider: Legend, a new instalment in THQ's MotoGP biking series, Silicon Knights' Too Human and Real Time Worlds' Crackdown.
Intriguingly, Microsoft also used the X05 address to reveal that Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson will take a hand in its forthcoming Halo film, acting as executive producer along with his wife Fran Walsh.
Today, the second of X05, consists largely of executive and developer interviews.

Atari has announced that a new instalment in classic survival horror franchise Alone in the Dark is currently in development for the Xbox 360.
The game, which is scheduled to make its debut at the X05 event in Amsterdam this week, is being developed by first Infogrames subsidiary Eden Games. Previous titles developed by the studio include V-Rally 1, 2 and 3, Need for Speed: Porsche and Kya: Dark Lineage.
"Alone in the Dark will look and play amazing on Xbox 360," said Xbox corporate VP Peter Moore.
"The level of environmental interaction and graphical detail achievable on the system is staggering and will allow Eden to produce a game wholly worthy of the 'next-generation' tag, and provide an intense and voracious gaming experience."
Atari Europe marketing director Cyril Voiron added: "Alone in the Dark is a massive global franchise that has been at the forefront of the survival genre since its inception."
"We are supremely confident that Eden Games will deliver a visceral and gripping experience that will establish the Alone in the Dark franchise as the leader of the next-generation survival genre."

Along with new games and an update on the Halo film's progress, Microsoft's tonight announced a strategic long-term alliance with sportswear manufacturer adidas, encompassing a range of football (soccer) oriented initiatives.
The alliance will see Xbox 360 kiosks appearing in adidas stores worldwide and at grassroots football events leading up to next year's FIFA World Cup, while Microsoft will join adidas in supporting MTV's "Goal - Germany 2006" TV series, kicking off this November, which charts the progress of 10 young footballers trying to make it into their national squads in time for next summer's tournament.
The two firms will also engage in various cross-promotional exercises to herald the release of Goal: The Movie. Furthermore, adidas will install content on Xbox 360 consoles, while Microsoft will enjoy presence on adidas' FIFA 2006 World Cup mobile portal.
"The alliance between adidas and Xbox reflects the fact that sports, lifestyle and video games are inextricably linked," said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of Worldwide Marketing and Publishing for Xbox at Microsoft Corp. "Xbox 360 is a place where all three of these elements come together to truly amplify the sport experience. We look forward to working with adidas on this exciting program."
Richard Prenderville, head of Global Media at adidas, added, "We are really excited by our alliance with Xbox 360. The innovation it is driving is something we believe in at adidas, and our collaboration will excite an entire audience who love to game indoors and out."

Microsoft defied expectations by remaining quiet on the specifics of its Xbox 360 launch line-up at its X05 press conference tonight, but did use the opportunity to announce an exclusive new RPG title from Bioware and several other titles that will "lead" on the next generation platform.
Bioware's RPG, Mass Effect, is the first game in a trilogy, while Ubisoft was also on hand to confirm that Splinter Cell 4 will be appearing on Xbox 360 as well as other formats, and id Software revealed that it would be releasing a Wolfenstein title - developed by Quake 4 collaborators Raven Software.
Project Gotham Racing 3, Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo: Elements of Power will form part of the console's "impressive Christmas portfolio", Microsoft said, but that's all we know for now.
In other news, Eidos' Tomb Raider: Legend will also appear on Xbox 360, Microsoft said, as will a new instalment in the MotoGP biking series from THQ, and there were trailer spots for the likes of Silicon Knights' Too Human, Real Time Worlds' Crackdown and others.
Microsoft will be pleased to have secured Bioware's support for the next generation in particular. Last time out, the developer's Knights of the Old Republic Star Wars RPGs and latterly its original effort Jade Empire helped give the platform holder real credibility in that genre.

As well as a raft of product announcements, Microsoft used tonight's X05 press conference to reveal that it has arranged for Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and his partner Fran Walsh to work as executive producers on the Halo film.
As well as contributing to its production, Jackson will also lend the use of his Weta film studio to work on the special effects. Like Jackson, Weta has previously worked on the Lord of the Rings trilogy and this Christmas's King Kong.
The Halo film, due out in 2007, is the product of a script by Alex Garland, who was paid $1 million for his work, and was shopped around to various film studios earlier this year before Universal and 20th Century Fox agreed a deal to work on it collaboratively with Microsoft.
The two film studios will split the revenues equally, while paying Microsoft $5 million and 10 per cent of the film's gross.

The rubber's about to meet the road for next-gen motorcycle racing, thanks to THQ and Climax Group.
The publisher and developer today announced that they're bringing their popular motorcycle sim series, MotoGP 2006: Ultimate Racing Technology, to the Xbox 360. Fully licensed by MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports, MotoGP URT on the Xbox 360 will give Climax a chance to combine the sim-style gameplay on which it built the series with the power of a next-generation system.
"The next-gen technology allows us to focus on developing an incredible visual experience with the unparalleled sensation of speed and adrenaline that is an inherent part of MotoGP," said THQ executive vice president of worldwide publishing Kelly Flock, "while also retaining the depth of realism that our relationship with Dorna awards us."
The most recent installment in THQ's MotoGP series, MotoGP 3: Ultimate Racing Technology, debuted on the Xbox and PC in August to a warm critical reception. In a break from series tradition, MotoGP 3 incorporated an extreme street-racing mode with fictional tracks, bikes, and riders. The Xbox 360 installment will offer players an "enhanced extreme mode" and new tracks, bikes, and riders.

DC Comics's iconic embodiment of the American dream has historically had only two weaknesses: kryptonite and video games. While both tend to cripple the Man of Steel and render him as unimpressive as a kitten, Electronic Arts announced at Microsoft's X05 conference in Amsterdam today that it is aiming to rectify one of these problems. Next summer will see the release of EA's Superman Returns: The Video Game, due out on current-generation platforms and the Xbox 360 to coincide with the big blue boy scout's theatrical rebirth from Warner Bros. Pictures. Electronic Arts has put the project in the hands of EA Tiburon, the development studio behind the nigh-invulnerable Madden NFL franchise.
"We are creating a game that allows players to experience a real sense of flying, and master Superman's unrivaled super hero powers in order to save Metropolis," said EA Tiburon vice president and studio manager Steven Chiang. "Only Superman can meet challenges of this scale."
Developed in conjunction with Warner Bros. Interactive and DC Comics, the game will not only draw from the events of the Superman Returns movie, but will also incorporate storylines from the character's extensive comic book mythos.
"EA is capturing the rich mythology of Superman and the visual excitement of our latest film to build a uniquely thrilling videogame for our fans," said DC president and publisher Paul Levitz. "We are all working together to bring players as much of the Superman experience as possible."
