Great news sports fans! As you may already know, EA recently announced that it's collaborating with US sports channel ESPN on the forthcoming NBA Live 07, a partnership that'll provide you with access to ESPN Sports Centre Updates every twenty minutes via your Xbox 360 or PS3.
However, as you may not already know, EA has now revealed two further ESPN-related features that'll be available to you in the game.
"We'll be providing live streaming ESPN podcasts," explains Brent Nielsen, NBA Live 07's senior producer. "You'll be able to go and fire up the radio if you want to listen to any of your favourite items like The Dan Patrick show or Mike & Mike in the Morning."
Brent's also revealed that that you'll be able to access ESPN broadcasting straight from your next-gen console by accessing ESPN clips that'll be updated every hour, meaning you'll never have to miss another touchdown, home run or three pointer ever again. Well, that's relief, then.

New from SUCCESSHK
Set in 2013, Bullet Witch tells the story of a desperate fight between man, who is on the verge of extinction, and demons. You play as a witch named Alicia. Although the game clearly features some fantasy elements, it actually takes place in a realistic world setting. Bullet Witch is an action adventure with story sequences intermixed with gun fights and magic. The game promises to make full use of the Xbox 360's visual capabilities for its enemies, including giant dragon-like demons.

News from Gamesradar
Whenever we want to get excited about the next generation of gaming, gazing upon some Rainbow Six Vegas shots always helps. There's nothing so spectacular as seeing a special forces team taking on a terrorist threat with Las Vegas - one of the most glitzy and bizarre cities in the world - as a backdrop.
The Rainbow Six team have made the trip to Nevada because of international terrorist Irena Morales who has led a team of mercenaries into Vegas to lay siege to the casinos and hotels.
Initially it's unclear just what Morales's agenda is but the Rainbow Six team, led by Logan Keller, only has one night to restore order to the city and take down the scheming Morales.
The game is in development with Ubisoft Montreal who was responsible for Rainbow Six 3. The team has been working hard to make Vegas the most intense adventure yet with mission objectives continually being reassessed and briefings happening in real-time - this means key strategic decisions will have to be made on the fly.
The game is due to be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 so will have numerous online modes and will allow you to create a multiplayer character that will evolve the more you play. Also, the more successes you achieve online, the more equipment you unlock.

In the official Sega forums, it's been announced that an update 'pack' for 'mech shooter Chromehounds will be available to download via Xbox Live Marketplace at 00:00GMT on July 19.
Download the pack - which is free - and you'll get your hands on the WP_SG003 (a sniper cannon for fast, furious engagements. Features a smaller magazine to reduce weight), the WH_HC034 (an improved HC1500/D, for those in the know. A giant cannon with massive destructive power), the AX_AM002 (additional armor with an enhanced KE defensive profile. It's shaped to better turn bullets) and WWII Tricolor Camouflage (a brand new World War II inspired camouflage pattern).
It's been mentioned in the forum post detailing the update that Sega and Chromehounds dev FromSoftware "have made the decision to offer the pack free of charge by way of a thank you to HOUND pilots around the world. As you may know, we experienced some tricky server-load problems right after launch, and we hope this will go some way to saying thanks for sticking by the game."

Capcom's excellent Xbox 360 zombie splatter-fest Dead Rising may not appear in Germany, as the country's entertainment software ratings body USK (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle) has reportedly deemed it too violent for release.
According to at least one internet-based report, the game has actually been banned in Germany. However, a representative from Capcom Entertainment Europe informed us this morning that nothing's been confirmed as yet, although added that a ban is highly possible due to Dead Rising's extremely violent gameplay. So, er, while things are still up in the air, it seems the zombies may well be giving Germany a miss this year.
But Blighty loves nothing better than a good old bit of blood, gore and zombie dismemberment and Dead Rising claws its way out into daylight on September 8 over here.

Our old chum Major Nelson has updated his Xbox Live-focussed blog with news that Xbox Live Friends lists are once again checkable from MSN Windows Live Messenger, after several months absence for the functionality. Hurrah!
However - *glum face* - apparently the return of this functionality is currently limited to US and Japanese passport accounts, Nelson explaining that "Other regions may have this function, but it is purely up to the regional Windows Live Messenger teams if they want an Xbox tab...the Xbox team does not make this decision."
Meanwhile, he's also mentioned that a demo of Rockstar's Table Tennis "is on its way" to Marketplace. Unfortunately, there's no word on a date for its touchdown but it should feature both single-player and two-player ping pong action - but no Xbox Live play.

Initial details have emerged on Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, a new game being whipped into shape by Hitman and Freedom Fighters developer IO Interactive.
According to a report on Game Informer Online, Kane & Lynch is a third-person shooter, in development for Xbox 360 and PC. Info is a little sparse, but it's said the game features full co-operative play, a meaty online component and "intuitive squad tactics". Additional word states that the game follows the story of a psychopath and a mercenary who have come into possession of a huge amount of money.
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men publishing duties will be handled by Eidos, but the company remained unavailable for further comment on the game at the time of writing. However, with the cat out the bag, no doubt we'll hear more soon.

July 17th, 2006, 19:01 Posted By: wraggster
It looks as though the Xbox 360 will sidestep the issue of offering consumers a price-cut this year, opting to tempt buyers away from Sony and Nintendo's new offerings with what has been dubbed the 'Xbox 360 Pro Bundle', a well-equipped 360 console seemingly replacing the Premium Pack.
Due for launch in August in the US, rumours on several well-established message boards, all springing up at around the same time, seem to point to a leak from US retail or distribution sources, following a briefing from Microsoft's Xbox sales team.
The Pro Bundle will, according to claims that should be kept firmly locked away in the rumour cupboard, contain the standard Premium Pack as well as Project Gotham Racing 3, a three month Gold subscription to Xbox Live and 1,250 XBL Marketplace points, all for $399. The pack is dated by sources for release the first week of August.
We'll keep you updated on the situation, but for the record, when contacted Microsoft offered only a 'no comment'.

Texas Hold 'Em will be making an appearance on Xbox Live Arcade next month after all, Microsoft's confirmed.
The game wasn't included in the line-up of titles that make up Microsoft's current "Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays" promotion, which sees a game released every Wednesday until August 9th. That led most of us to believe we wouldn't see it for a while afterward.
But now it sounds like Microsoft was simply hedging its bets - the US arm of the company has now confirmed a release date of August 23rd for the poker derivative, in development at TikGames.
You won't be able to make actual money playing Texas Hold 'Em, however many Microsoft Points it ends up costing - but then that's fairly realistic, isn't it?
What you will get is three game modes - standard, tournament, scenario - and dozens of variations, along with the option to make custom multiplayer ones for up to eight players.
The game will also support 1080i progressive-scan resolutions, apparently, although we can't imagine that'll make much difference to anything.
The other games due out on Live Arcade before the end of August include Cloning Clyde (this Wednesday, July 19th), Galaga (July 26), Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting (August 2) and Pac-Man (August 9).
Now all we need is a surprise Lumines Live announcement and our summer's complete. Come on Microsoft, get on with it.

Last week Microsoft put some order into Live Arcade by announcing Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays, a new promotion which - funnily enough - sees Live Arcade receiving new titles on Wednesdays. Things jumped into action with Frogger appearing on Arcade on July 12, and so far it's been announced that Frogger will be followed by Cloning Clyde, Galaga, Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting and Pac-Man.
But naturally the Wednesday Live Arcade fun won't end there and according to Xbox Live Arcade group manager Greg Canessa Microsoft is targeting 30 Arcade titles "by the end of summer" and 50 "by the end of the calendar year."
Speaking to Microsoft's Major Nelson, Canessa explained that Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays is an initiative that's been done "in direct response to [the Xbox Live] community".
"We've been working pretty much in secret for a number of months on Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays - we did go dark for a little bit", he revealed, adding: "That's part of the reason why we've had a little bit of a drought over the last couple of months on Xbox Live Arcade."
According to Canessa, Live Arcade games will be entirely constrained to Wednesdays from now on and will be released at 8:00am GMT. However, Canessa noted that he cannot guarantee that a new title will hit every week: "..there may be a week that we skip and then a week where we release two titles," he said.
More new Live Arcade titles are set to be announced before the last of the initial five, Pac-Man, hits on August 9. We'll let you know when more Arcade games crop up.

July 17th, 2006, 17:15 Posted By: wraggster
Electronic Arts will bring the next blockbuster instalment in the Half-Life series to next-generation consoles and PC simultaneously, and also has a new role-playing game based on The Lord of the Rings in development.
During a press-packed summer showcase in San Francisco last week, Valve Software - for which EA distributes product - revealed that Half-Life 2: Episode 2 would launch on PS2, Xbox 360 and PC this Christmas.
Meanwhile, the game previously known as Project Gray Company was confirmed as The Lord of the Rings: The White Council - an action RPG due out on next-gen formats in autumn 2007.
The news drove the absence of Medal of Honor: Airborne from EA's 2006 schedule - a recent sore spot - completely off the agenda, while the summer showcase also gave the publisher the opportunity to show off its latest sports games, film licences and next-generation visions of the Battlefield and Need For Speed franchises.
Half-Life 2: Episode 2 is the second episode in Valve's trilogy of Half-Life 2 expansions - once dubbed "Half-Life 3" by the developer - and EA had been expected to distribute it.
However, the decision to release to console consumers in addition to its PC base has the potential to add significantly to EA's side of the deal.
The publisher had traditionally lost out on sales of the PC versions of Half-Life 2 games due to their availability through Valve's Steam digital distribution system. Valve compiles stats based on the service's use that have currently logged more than 1.6 million game sessions for Episode 1 alone.
Whether or not the title is released through next-gen console digital distribution models - and there's no indication either way - it will certainly be greeted as good news for EA by analysts.
This is not least because the console packages will be more complete than their PC counterparts - as well as Episode 2, consumers will receive Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode 1 in the same bundle, along with much-delayed multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 and a new spin-off title, Portal.
Elsewhere, EA's interest in The Lord of the Rings shows no signs of abating - if The White Council ships on time, 2007 will be the sixth consecutive year that EA has produced at least one game based on the film franchise.
EA also confirmed that many of the usual suspects would make up its autumn/Christmas line-up, including Madden, NASCAR, NBA Live, NCAA Football, NFL Street, NHL, Tiger Woods and FIFA.
Xbox 360 and PSP SKUs of The Godfather are due out in September, while Need For Speed Carbon - an easy tip for the Christmas number one, going on previous years, will arrive in autumn along with Battlefield 2142 and Superman Returns.
EA also has an online MMORPG based on Warhammer in development, courtesy of recently acquired Mythic, along with co-op shooter Army of Two, Medal of Honor: Airborne, and titles based on The Sims.
Other highlights of the schedule, though they played less of a part in EA's summer showcase, include Crysis - from the developers of PC shooter Far Cry - and Will Wright's highly anticipated Spore.

July 17th, 2006, 17:12 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has confirmed the latest figures denoting the continued success of its Xbox Live service, citing an attach rate of 60 per cent as the company strives to add further functionality and user benefits.
Significantly outperforming the service offerings on the original Xbox console, which only managed approximately a 10 per cent attach rate amongst console owners, the next-gen machine is drawing in serious crowds.
The company attributes the growth to a combination of offering free "Silver Level' access to all Xbox 360 owners and its comprehensive Marketplace and Live Arcade services.
According to Microsoft, the Live service has hosted over two billion hours of gaming, including over 500 million games of Halo 2. It' also handled over 900,000 voice and text messages per day, and now that the Xbox 360 is readily available at retail, the numbers are only expected to grow.
The Xbox 360 was recently given its biannual service upgrade, offering much requested functionality to the Live service such as background downloads and a better organised interface.
Marketplace content, such as game expansions, demos, game and movie trailers etc have been key drivers to the success of the service, as have the casual games available through Xbox Live Arcade.
The Arcade service is set to expand rapidly over the coming months, Microsoft announcing Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays earlier this week, which will provide five new games in as many weeks and could help to increase the free-download to paid purchase content conversion rates, currently at around 21 per cent.
As part of Microsoft's ongoing commitment to the online community, the Live service is set for further expansions in terms of both functionality and available content, pushing the firm rapidly towards its projected target of six million Live accounts by 2007 and opening up immense potential for additional revenues through the now Microsoft owned in-game advertising specialist, Massive Inc.

Out of all the games we managed to squeeze into our heads during E3's three days, BioWare's Mass Effect by far and away left us the most impressed, and our pants most soiled.
Now, two months after we were wowed in Los Angeles, you can also lay your eyes on the jaw-dropping Xbox 360 demonstration shown at E3. The E3 footage shows off Mass Effect's impressive facial animation and lighting systems, as well as some thrilling sci-fi exploration and combat gameplay we can't wait to get our hands on.
Mass Effect explodes onto Xbox 360 early next year. Enjoy the footage.

The latest out of Tokyo reports that PlayStation 2 outsold Xbox 360 by 21,236 units in the last week of June. Not good. Sure the Japanese launch of Xbox 360 was marred by a lack of content targeted at Japanese consumer interests, but Mizuguchi's N3 Ninety Nine Nights has since been released, and so has Final Fantasy XI -- though we suspect Japanese gamers are content playing FFXI on their PS2s, as they've been doing since 2002.
With Sony and Nintendo on the verge of launching their new consoles, Microsoft has run out of time to gain a significant foothold in Japan. A May poll, conducted by Cross Marketing, found that out of 366 self-identified gamers, 256 of them want a PlayStation 3. Of the respondents that were permitted to select multiple next-generation consoles, 127 said they wanted Wii. Only 93 said they wanted Xbox 360. "I can't say I'm beaming with confidence in Japan," president and chief executive officer of Microsoft Japan Darren Huston admitted at a company event last Thursday. Not good.
