There are now more than one million combined Xbox 360 leaderboard entries for Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 1 & 2, according to Bizarre Creations.
"Now that's a lot of highscoring and shape blasting!" said the understandably chuffed developer.
"Unfortunately it's impossible to tell whether these leaderboard entries equate to one million real life people," the company said, admitting that it's possible to have multiple accounts on your Xbox 360 used by a single person, and that a number of gamers will have a leaderboard entry for both games.
On the other hand, the figure doesn't account for the amount of times gamers will have played the title while offline.
"It's still a very important milestone for the Geometry Wars franchise and one which we're very proud of here at Bizarre."
We're not surprised by the popularity of the Geometry Wars franchise on 360, as both games made the grade in our Ten best games on Xbox Live Arcade feature.

Too Human cleaved a line between those who appreciate the subtle nuances of button mashery and others who simply didn't get it. It's a gap, however, that may be bridged somewhat with the one element of the game that managed to garner significant praise. No, not the hoarding of random loot, but the music.
The hour-long Too Human soundtrack, scored by Silicon Knight's composer Steve Henifin and performed by the FILMharmonic Orchestra and Choir Prague, is now available for around $16 from Amazon, Best Buy, iTunes and the CD label Sumthing Distribution's own site. The soundtrack promises an interesting mix, from orchestra to metal, and even "cyber elements" that "are more elegant and organic in style." Whatever, as long as we won't again be forced to watch a Valkyrie descend for the hundredth time to carry Baldur (and our patience) off to Valhalla as the selection goes from track to track.

Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store are offering discounted goodies in celebration of Thanksgiving.
But, as only the US celebrate Thanksgiving, only the US get the treats.
From tomorrow, Xbox Live will see Rez HD drop from 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) down to 500 MSP (GBP 4.25 / EUR 6.00) - a steal, considering the critical acclaim.
The full Death Magnetic album by Metallica for Guitar Hero III also sheds a load, dropping to 1000 MSP (GBP 8.50 / EUR 12.00). And there's plenty more on Major Nelson's blog.
Meanwhile, over on the PlayStation Store (which we can at least access), The Last Guy, PixelJunk Eden, echochrome, Novastrike and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 are all temporarily USD 4.99 (just over GBP 3). Offer ends on 4th December.

Need more space when playing rock band? Then Rock Band Extense does the job
Remember those old telephones that had the springy springy cable that would stretch out when you used it? Yeah, we didn't like them either. And we don't like it on the bass drum pedal of the Rock Band drum kit either. Using the Extense cable, you can have easier placement of the bass drum pedal on the stand, or move it off the stand, if you wish. Also included are 2 USB extension cords that can be used for the wired controllers, which allow you to have even more room to play.

According to the latest issue of Famitsu (translated by IGN), Xbox 360 owners are in for a real, albeit slightly morbid treat this holiday season. The Japanese mag has revealed that a demo for Capcom's delightfully entertaining zombie safari, Resident Evil 5, will be shambling onto the Xbox Live Marketplace on December 5th. Though the offline and co-op demo has yet to be confirmed for regions outside of Japan (we're already eating picking Capcom's brain on the matter), we have it on good authority that the internet can, in fact, reach all the way over there.
Update: Capcom has confirmed that the North American demo will be coming "a bit later" than the Japanese demo.

During its first-half fiscal 2008-09 conference call today, Ubisoft parried a question regarding the Assassin's Creed sequel. While an Ubisoft executive would not confirm the game's release for fiscal 2010 (more specifically, holiday 2009), le exec did concede that "we are working hard on the product" -- the first real confirmation of its assumed development.
It seems that Ubisoft is sticking to claims that an Assassin's Creed sequel won't be released until there is "more anticipation for it." So let 'em know: You can't wait to get Altair's feet wet ... again! (Only this time, literally.)

While price cuts and Fable 2 appeared to boost Xbox 360 sales over here in the new country, in Europe – a magical land comprised mostly of stone buildings and quaint traditions – Microsoft is attributing "its biggest ever sales week" to something entirely foreign here in the colonies: family. While the current economic crisis has turned most American families (a term we use loosely) to disband and, in extreme cases, sell each other for lunch money, "British families are set to spend more quality time together than in the last ten years this Christmas." Uh, thanks economic downturn?
Unfortunately, the press release doesn't mention specifics for this record-breaking week, instead recalling the recent 7 million consoles milestone in Europe while trumpeting the upside of an economic crisis (families!). But this line of reasoning isn't limited to Europe; it works in America too! "Out of work? Hours cut at the factory? Starving? Consider an escape from your troubled existence with Xbox 360." Catchy, eh?

Microsoft reckons the Xbox 360 will benefit from the credit crunch this Christmas, as families opt to stay at home and share affordable, long-lasting entertainment.
The console also doubles as a room heater, of course, and perhaps there's enough wireless battery acid for the whole family to wash in.
YouGov has surveyed 1000 people in the UK to get results, according to a press release.
Just under half wanted to buy one present the entire family could enjoy, for example. And nearly three quarters wanted to find presents that last longer than a day - like dogs.
Better still, just under half wanted to find an "extra special present" as they would be buying fewer anyway - which tackles the "more expensive" pitfall. Oh, and almost exactly half wanted to bring families together.
"In tough economic times, home entertainment products traditionally do well, as consumers tend to want to stay in and save money. Gaming and entertainment consoles like the Xbox 360 are seen as good value, given they can entertain the whole household through Christmas and beyond," said Martin Olausson from Strategy Analytics.
"Our trend research shows that families are looking for gifts that keep on giving throughout the year," said UK Xbox boss Neil Thompson.
"At an entry-level ERP of GBP 129.99, Xbox 360 offers an amazing experience for the whole family, so with the constant rise in other entertainment based activities such as going to the cinema, concerts and football games, it's clear Xbox 360 offers great entertainment value for families."

via Kotaku
Japanese gaming mag Famitsu has revealed that Xbox 360 owners will be getting a special holiday treat next week, as a co-op demo for Capcom's Resident Evil 5 drops on Friday, December 5th.
The demo will consist of two stages, most likely the ones we've seen played through at trade shows throughout the summer, playable in either single player or co-op modes. Also in the article is news that Resident Evil 5 (okay, Biohazard 5) is being pushed up a week exclusively in Japan, now slated for release on March 5th instead of the 12th.
Keep in mind that the announcement only covers Japan, and only regards the Xbox 360, so PlayStation owners and non-Japanese folk will just have to wait while we poke Capcom vigorously with a stick.

Movies from Sony Pictures Entertainment are now showing up on the Netflix film streaming service via 360.
When users noticed that the service, added to US 360's when NXE launched, lacked access to Sony films the inevitable storm of conspiracy theories followed, but it turned out to be a simple licensing issue.
"Those titles are still available to be watched on subscribers' computers and on TVs via other partner devices, and we hope they'll be licensed for Xbox 360 shortly," said Netflix.
And now they have been, with Kotaku reporting that Sony's films are now back online and ready for your viewing.
