Looking for a last-minute getaway destination before 2013 grinds into gear? Why not try the lush, wildlife-infused terrains of Tamriel, on sale today on Xbox Live Airlines? Just don't forget to bring your dragon repellent. Yes, the last Countdown to 2013 deal of the year brings discounts for Oblivion and Skyrimon Games on Demand, as well as their DLC.
Today's deal slashes Skyrim's price in half to $29.99, as well as taking 50 percent out of the Hearthfire and Dawnguard add-ons. However, at the time of writing Hearthfire is still at the regular 400 MSP, although Xbox spokestype Major Nelson indicates the price should lower later today, Dawnguard is rightfully half-off of 800 MSP.
Meanwhile Oblivion gets a 33-percent-sized chunk ripped out of it, that taking the previous Elder Scrolls game down to $9.99. There are discounts for its DLC too, with the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine add-ons half-price at 600and 200 MSP respectively.

The Xbox Live service experienced some hiccups recently with its cloud save feature and now Microsoft is making amends with a free month of Xbox Live.
Microsoft notes it's automatically applying a one-month extension to impacted customers. There is no need to call support if you were affected by the outage. Xbox's Major Nelson posts that the company knows who couldn't reach the cloud and will handle it on their end.
Late last week Xbox Live customers reported outages and other issues, along with the cloud save file problem, which would bounce back error "0x807b0198" when trying to load a file.

In a sweet "State of the Polytron" post, Fez designer and sole Polytron employee Phil Fish revealed plans to port his cryptographic adventure game to platforms beyond XBLA in 2013, potentially platforms with friendlier policies toward updates.
"Yes, i've heard you, dozens of people emailing me everyday telling me how much of an idiot i am for not porting FEZ to everything," noted Fish. He also teased future developments relating to Disasterpeace's soundtrack for the game (which you can buy here) and "something about a US branch" of Polytron.
Fish also reaffirmed plans for two more games, and expressed interest in designing non-game projects. "I want to design everything," he said. "Maybe not a videogame? Maybe something else entirely. I JUST DON'T KNOW."

An image promoting map pack DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 recently popped up on Reddit, called "Revolution." The images show what seem to be five locations for the add-on content: Mirage, Downhill, Hydro, Grind, and Die Rise. Die Rise also sports a picture of a zombie-like soldier. Other pictures of the promotional materials for the DLC note that it will be a timed Xbox 360 exclusive set to launch January 29.
We've contacted an Activision rep for comment on the leaked images, and will update once we learn more.

Today's daily deal on Xbox Live includes sales on six games as part of a "family games" theme. Two XBLA games, Crazy Taxi and The Splatters, can be downloaded for 200 Microsoft points each today, a 75 percent savings on their original 800 point prices.
The other six games come straight from the Games on Demand section, and include Toy Story 3 and Crash of the Titans for $9.99, half off from the original $20 price for either game. Cars 2 is $19.99 today, while Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts is $9.99, both 33 percent off. The Xbox Live Countdown to 2013 promotion will keep rolling with sales for the next few days, so these deals are only good for today.

We grew up in a household where swearing wasn't exactly commonplace, which made playing the particularly terrifying games of our collective youths somewhat of a challenge: Sometimes you just need to bust out some language, especially when the going gets tough and your courage gets going.
Kids these days though, with their newfangled Kinect devices, will get more from cursing out their horror games than just a talking to from Dad, at least as far as Dead Space 3 is concerned: "There are commands where you might be in a certain situation and you might yell a specific expletive and it might behave in a way that you want it to," Dead Space 3 executive producer Steve Papoutsis told CVG, regarding the game's "Better With Kinect" functionality on the 360. "We definitely have done some things there."
As we discovered earlier this month, Kinect voice commands are primarily used to trade items between players and accomplish other communal goals during co-op play. Of course, all that intended functionality will take place after the solid 30 minute swearing session scheduled to commence as soon as the game is first turned on.

Microsoft added a cloud storage feature to the Xbox 360 in its fall 2011 dashboard update, but today an outage has taken it offline for the last several hours and counting. As noted by Joystiq, trying to access your cloud saves is resulting in a 0x807b0198 error for many, although other parts of XBL like streaming video services and multiplayer gaming profiles are unaffected. For the moment, we were able to copy/move some of our saves from the cloud cache on our hard drive (Settings --> storage --> cloud storage) to the normal hard drive section, and access them from there. Your mileage may vary, but otherwise you'll just need to keep an eye out the XBL dashboard status page to see when things are back to normal. There's no word yet on when it will be fully restored, but a message there says engineers are working on a fix. We're not missing the old "gamertag recovery" feature the cloud system replaced and upgraded, but any significant outage is certainly enough to make us think about keeping our saves backed up on a memory card in a safe place -- just in case.

via http://emu-russia.net/en/
Sharp X68000 emulator for Microsoft XBOX has been updated. Changes:
***************************************
*** Changes To X68000X Core ***
***************************************
* Added in Preset controller configs.
* New option to specify how the mouse is controlled. Options are "None", "Left Analog", "Right Analog"
* Lowered memory useage of the emulator by 8meg. What does this mean? No more issues with Gilou999's skin at 720p. In fact I was able to run a game I was testing at 1080i for those of you insane enough to do that kind of thing. As a result savestates are no longer compatible with previous versions savestates. However they will be a heckuva lot smaller now!
* XF1 thru XF5, OP1 and OP2 keys are now mappable to the xbox controller. Look in the "Configure Controller" menu. Kyuukyoku Tiger is now playable!
* Emulator now clears screen so there is no longer garbage when the game resolution changes.
* No longers asks for the "boot" disk in a multi-disk boot ZIP. If you wanna change the boot disk (or any other "boot" drives) just press X and do it from there.
* If a game has no config, is found in the config database AND has only one disk (within a zip archive) the emulator will skip the game configuration screen and just start the game.
* Updated to the latest Madmab Edition interface and features.
* Code was not properly auto mounting HDF files on newly configured games. Fixed.
* Added in game specific video modes
* Added in game specific savestate autoload
**************************************
*** Interface Related Changes ***
**************************************
* Did some cleanup of the Preset Controller code. Old habits die hard!
* If one of the following images are found in the "D:\backgrounds" directory they will be displayed if no media is found for them. "box front missing.png", "box back missing.png", "cart missing.png", "titles missing.png", "action missing.png". It will also display them when a directory is displayed since some emu's can play CD images which are sometimes stored in directories. If this bothers you just remove the files from the "d:\backgrounds" directory on your xbox.
* Fixed an issue where changing the "Samba Nameserver" would also ask you for the "Relax Share Name" when you were done.
* Improved game preview network streaming. I like to call it "pseudo-streaming" so streaming game previews off a network should be ALOT smoother now.
* "Pseudo Streaming" defaults to off. So if you want to turn it on go into "Screenshot/Movie Preview Settings" and turn it on. I'm doing this until I get more feedback concerning the performance of it.
* Removed pop-up that says "Select The Cheatcode File You Wish To Use." per Dominater01's request.
* Cheatcode files now looked for in "Cheats" directory (don't forget to move them there guys!). (Pcsxbox only).
* The two Preset Controller menu options have been moved to the "controller configuration" menu. I did this cause several emu's use this feature now and to help reduce clutter in the in-game menu.
* Fixed blank pop-up message when trying to display the cheat codes when there are none.
* Fixed issues where media would not display when a directory with a period in it was highlighted.
* Added option to "Refresh DVD Drive". It is currently in the "Utilities Menu"
* Finally added option to "Shutdown Xbox". It is currently in the "Main Menu" however I have my reservations about it's location. I'd prefer to have it in the "Utilities Menu"
* Partial >4096 file support put in. If you have more than 4096 title or action shots put them in a directory named "action01" and "titles01".
* Checks put into the cheatcode database checker to let you know if the file is to big or has too many game entries and needs to be split up.
* Gilou9999's HD Colour skins should work properly now (no weird hacks). Be sure to at least copy over the "settings.ini" files in the skin directory and the skin "configurations" directories and "reload the skin".
* Added new skin transition option "none". Real handy for skins like Gilou9999's that uses the HD sprite trick.
* Windows 7 users should have no more weird issues on samba shares! Woohoo! Thank you YRUSirius for pointing out the available patch and Buzz for creating that patch.
* Fixed issue where emulator menu video mode was reverting to last played games video mode in emu's that support game specific video modes.
* MP3 Volume issue should hopefully be fixed when loading a game that switches the cores.
* Fixed "Action List" selections not registering (computer emu specific)
* Created mappable key for ( swapping keyboard/action list) so you don't always have to hop in and out of the IGM.
* New feature for "Action List". "Keyword List". This lets you define keywords that when selected from the list will be stuffed into the keyboard buffer. Currently C64 only. For example in Ultima IV and up commonly used words when "T"alking to characters are "Job", "Name", "Join". These can be put in the list for easier game play.
* Fixed lockups when changing Action Lists while within game.
* Fixed issue where video mode was not being remembered in some cases when set to either 720x480 or 720x576.
* Fixed issue where emu would lock up if the media directory path was longer that 36 characters. (Thanks to those who reported it and AMOC for testing for me)
* Now have the ability to display long names for games. This currently relies on having Xtras synopsis files. In the future I will be providing other options.
* Fixed issue where sound volumes would get wacked when trying to adjust them in the IGM.

Retro City Rampage welcomes Xbox 360 owners to the mean streets of Theftropolis on January 2, 2013. The official word comes from the game's creator, Brian Provinciano, who tells us the game's launch on PlayStation 3 in Europe and Asia, along with the WiiWare version, should also occur in January.
"Remember that the XBLA version has an additional month of development, polish, tuning and improvements," said Provinciano. Those updates have also been patched into the PS3 and PC versions, which have been available since October 9.
In a year full of great games, our review of RCR called it the "perfect game for gamers."

The Xbox Live service is far from optimal right now, as Microsoft reports hiccups in the Xbox Live service and Xbox.com website. Users will notice inconsistencies and certain outages, affecting various apps across the Xbox 360 – our own tests show the Netflix, HBO Go and Hulu Plus apps functioning as normal right now.
In addition to the reported outages, Cloud files are also affected. If you're trying to access your Cloud saves, you'll receive an error reading "0x807b0198." Microsoft is working to resolve the issues and will update accordingly.

As if hordes of the undead weren't problem enough, users are reporting that the retail version of The Walking Dead on Xbox 360 is nearly unplayable.Telltale forum dwellers note that the game has freezing and stuttering issues that render the game very difficult to play. This makes quick-time events particularly troublesome, with one user noting that button prompts appeared much too late, making the event impossible to complete.
Beyond these performance issues, several users report that they are unable to start Episode 2 after completing the first episode. Upon selecting the second episode, the game simply restarts Episode 1, according to the forums. An Xbox Live title update was released to fix this, though some users are reporting that it persists even after the update is installed.
As for the freezing issue, Telltale is aware of the problem, and states that it is apparently affecting users with the 4GB Xbox 360 Slim model. That said, there are users on the forum reporting the issues on other models, and Joystiq tipster Jared notes that it is also affecting his Gears of War 3 special edition console. Telltale is looking into the problem, and hopes to "provide more information soon." We've also contacted Telltale for comment, and will update this post as soon as we hear anything.

C4E is the man – this really is an amazingly cool app – serious top shelf hacking !
C4E’s BurnerMAX Payload Tool in association with Team Jungle & Team Xecuter
————————————————†”————————————————
Official release of the BurnerMAX Payload Tool – works with most MTK chipset based DVD burners (Liteon etc)
- No need to flash burner firmware
- Delivers a realtime payload to increase capacity of DVD+R DL discs to support XGD3
- Support for stock iHas B, C, and D burners, all makes and models
- Support for many of the Liteon iHAS Clones
- Supports many other models such as ASUS, Samsung, Pioneer and many others
- Supports many Liteon and Samsung USB External Burners
- Supports many Liteon IDE Burners
- Supports any disc burning software – we recommend iMGBURN
How it Works
—————–
Load your favorite burning software. Insert your blank DVD+R DL disc. Send the BurnerMAX Payload. Re-select your drive in the burner software and the capacity will be increased.
You will need to send the BurnerMAX Payload evertime you insert a blank DVD+R DL disc.
Special vendor specific commands are sent to examine in realtime the drives custom registers, searching for specific DVD+R DL blank media capacity and layer capacity parameters.
If found these registers are modified using another set of vendor specific commands.
Due to the use of stock firmware and different burner makes and models, any settings the burner has play a more important role.
For iHas burners B, C and D, recommended settings are:
Force Hypertuning – Enabled
Online Hypertung – Disabled
Smartburn – Enabled
Overspeed – Enabled
OPC history – Do not clear
Results may vary depending on hardware and disc brand.
Verbatim DVD+R DL (Singapore Manufactured) Blank Discs are recommended for best results.
I would like to wish everyone a merry xmas and a happy new year – many more goodies are coming……
Thanks go to Team Jungle for their hard work and efforts in the development process.
Thanks also go to Team Xecuter for their support to this project.
I wish to dedicate BurnerMAX Payload Tool's release to the victims of the Connecticut school massacre and the bravery of the school teachers involved who saved many lives.
Changelog

v0.15

Tapping in to that long-held Yuletide tradition of throwing fruit around and trying to slice it mid-air, Fruit Ninja Kinect and its add-ons are splattered all over Xbox Live's Countdown to 2013 Xmas Day sale. Halfbrick's produce-pruner has its price chopped in half today to 400 MSP, while its four DLC packs - namely 8-bit Cartridge, Art Box, Space Capsule, and Storm Season - are down by 50 percent to 80 MSP each.
Four other games also got price cuts in their stockings today. Carrying on the Kinect-ified ninja theme, Mini Ninjas Adventures is 50 percent off at 400 MSP. Also discounted on this merriest of days are Rock of Ages (75 percent off at 200 MSP), Hydro Thunder (67 percent off at 400 MSP), and another Kinect game inLeedmees (75 percent off at 200 MSP).
