Xbox One owners will not need to be connected to the internet to get Forza 5 working upon its initial install.
Earlier this month it was reported that the game would need a one-time net connection before it would work. This is now apparently not the case.
That’s not to say that the game will be completely free of any online requirements, however. IGN reports that players won’t be able to finish the single player Career mode without getting online at least once.
"In the beginning of the game, the player will be racing against Drivatars that are contained on the disc and were trained by the [Turn 10 development] team," Turn 10’s Dan Greenawalt stated.
"The player won't be blocked from playing the game [if they've never connected it to Xbox Live]. But deeper areas in the career mode were designed to utilise these additional cars and tracks.
"While playing, the player will be asked to connect to Live in order to download a completely fresh set of player-created Drivatar opponents – it’s not a lot of data, but the download contains enough Drivatars to cover all difficulty settings.
“Connecting will also download new content – but the vast majority of the launch content is contained on the disc.”

Game director says Microsoft's next console stands a good chance against PS4 if it arrives on time
Microsoft must launch Xbox One, its upcoming next generation console, in Japan at the same time as its North American release if it wishes to see a successful uptake in the region, Dynasty Warriors 8 director Atsushi Miyauchi has claimed.
Microsoft have so far been skittish about confirming a launch date for console in the Far East, with one executive saying it won’t launch in the region until 2014 – which is thought to be after PS4’s scheduled Japanese launch.
However, speaking to Polygon at PAX Australia, Miyauchi reflected on Microsoft’s efforts with its current system and wants to see change.
“I think Microsoft gave up promoting and presenting the Xbox 360 in Japan, it didn't keep the momentum there,” he said.
“And if they can release the Xbox One as close as possible to the North American release date, I think that would make a really big difference this time around.

Little change noted for the time of this update public beta stamped 2.0.16517.0 beginning.
The green Xbox One dominates the dash tiles and highlighting selected items.
A priori the cloud "may" or "may" store games, because at the moment the storage capacity has not changed (512MB) which is insufficient for storing a game, even for the most XBLA requires more space.
The end of M $ points (with an error on the conversion M t $ / € which is corrected.) Those who have already purchased from the beta will be refunded.
Without further explanation, the words "Use Code" is replaced by "Redeem Code".
Guide on the "Chat & Mi" disappears, giving way to "Chat"
In options it is now possible to automatically download updates to games without having to accept. was toured changes this first beta update that the final should also allow customization of the dash with a change in the size of the tiles etc, as on WinPhone 8 and Windows 8.1 As to XKEY, it is still running! ditto for consoles flashed.

Far Cry 3 is on sale for $20 on GameStop's site. The offer only applies to theXbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, as the physical PC version is not available online through GameStop, though a downloadable version is being offered for $40. It's currently discounted to $23.99 on Steam as part of the wallet-crushing Summer Sale.
Given that Far Cry 4 will "clearly" happen, we're pretty sure that now would be a good time to catch up on the series.

The open world of Dead Rising 3 is large enough to accommodate the worlds of both its predecessors combined.
During a panel at the San Diego Comic Con this weekend, Dead Rising 3 executive producer Josh Bridge demonstrated the scope of the new game by contrasting its world with that of Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2.
According to Game Informer, Bridge showed that the maps for both games would fit inside the sprawling open world of Dead Rising 3 'with room to spare'.
Revealed during Microsoft's E3 press conference in June, Dead Rising 3 is in development at Capcom Vancouver exclusively for Xbox One.
Capcom said at the time, "With intense action, an unmatched level of weapon and character customization, and immersive Xbox SmartGlass and Kinect integration, Dead Rising 3 delivers a heart-pounding experience unlike any other as players fight for survival in a massive, open world teeming with thousands of undead."

Microsoft has said that pre-orders for the Xbox One are “trending ahead” of those enjoyed by the Xbox 360 at the same stage in its pre-release cycle.
“Xbox One, which will launch this fall, has already seen impressive pre-order sales as consumers have signed up to be the first to receive the new system,” Microsoft said in its US June sales update.
"In fact, Xbox One pre-orders are trending ahead of Xbox 360 pre-orders during the same time period and have already sold out at most major US retailers.”
In addition, CVG reports that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said that early signs also suggest that PS4 and Xbox One are going to enjoy a stronger start on the market than both of their predecessors.
"Some retailers, not all of them, are saying pre-orders [are] two times than what they saw in the last generation launch," he claimed. "They're getting more pre-orders than what they saw before."

Windows Phone business grows by $134 million
Microsoft has made its report for Q4 of fiscal year 2013, which shows the company continuing to grow its revenues despite a console transition and harsh PC market.
The good news is perhaps a bit surprising, as one might expect some gloom and doom in the quarterly report of a company that has just lost a major executive and has announced dramatic restructuring.
The biggest success for the Entertainment and Devices Division was its Windows Phone business, which grew by $134 million.
Microsoft's Xbox division sold a million consoles – down a hundred thousand from last year – but grew its Xbox Live transaction revenue by twenty per cent.
Only losing a hundred thousand sales from last year is pretty impressive considering the impending launch of the Xbox one this holiday season.

Microsoft is still passionate about indie developers and will reveal its Xbox One publishing policies "very soon", according to Lionhead's creative director.
In an interview with Official Xbox Magazine, Gary Carr said "I certainly know that Microsoft want to talk at future press events about their relationships with indies".
"I can't really talk about that, but they're very passionate about building a strong relationship with indie development - indie development is the future," he added.
"I've been an indie developer for 23 years of my 28-year career, so I completely... there is no future to the games business without independent developers, they always will shape the industry, and the big corporations will follow. So that relationship is important.
"I don't mind having the big players like the Sonys, the Microsofts, the Amazons. I think you need these big giants out there, they kind of hold it all together in some way, but the real driving force of the industry has always been independent development. That's what shapes and changes and creates innovation. I think they can coexist."
CVG understands Microsoft is preparing for a Gamescom press conference, and may reveal the details of its new indie policy at the show.
Elsewhere in his interview, Carr also claimed that Phil Harrison, who's in charge of Microsoft's European developer relations, appears to be working on his own Xbox One platform.
"Oh, I think you'll find he's coming," Carr told OXM. "His platform is very soon, don't you worry about that."
Previous concerns that the Xbox One marketplace would not feature distinct Xbox Live Arcade and Indie channels, and will instead group all games into one category, led former Xbox boss Don Mattrick to pledge indie support on Xbox One.
Prior to this, Tim Schafer of Double Fine Studios had said that Microsoft support of indies is critical, while indie studio Curve declared its focus on PS4 because of "the lack of independent support currently announced from Microsoft and the Xbox One".
During E3, CVG interviewed Phil Harrison and asked him about indie support on Xbox One. He replied: "You've seen on Xbox 360 that Microsoft has, I think, pioneered a commitment to new development talent through Xbox Live Arcade and the Indie channel.
"What we've done on Xbox One is we've been very purposeful in removing those distinctions between categories of games. We don't want to infer quality by the size of the developer that created it - they're just 'games' to us, which is why you will only see games as one category."

Christmas pre-orders numbers for Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One are twice what they were for the launch of PS3 and Xbox 360, according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
Speaking in an Ubisoft earnings call, Guillemot cited reports from retailers as the source of these claims.
"Some retailers, not all of them, are saying pre-orders two times than what they saw in the last generation launch", he said. "They're getting more pre-orders than what they saw before."
Clarifying further during the earnings call, a company representative said the first Christmas install base "will be double" the last-gen equivalents.
"That's including Wii U figures compared to the Wii," the person said.
On the subject of anticipation of next-generation Ubisoft titles, such asWatch Dogs and Assassin's Creed 4, Guillemot said "pre-orders are going really well" and its games are "in top five for most pre-ordered games".
"We think we will have positive growth from the 12-month from launch, we should see more than double-digit increase of the market in calendar 2014."
The company also said it does not expect a significant increase in development costs - an announcement that may relieve the industry as it looks to be more efficient.
During the call, the publisher Ubisoft revealed it has hit its sales targetfor the first three months of its financial year, but the business overall has made 40 per cent less cash than the same time last year.
Ubisoft's sales growth was driven in part by a 56 per cent increase in sales of older titles such as Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed 3 and Rayman Origins. It also confirmed persistent online racing game The Crew will be released first calendar quarter 2014.
In addition to The Crew, Ubisoft's next-generation line-up also includesWatch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and The Division.

Sweetening the deal on its cloud-based Office 365 suite, Microsoft will start bundling a year of Xbox Live Gold with any purchases of Office 365 Home Premium or Office 365 University made before September 28th. You'll then pick up an Xbox Live code as you sign in during the initial Office setup. Unfortunately, US customers aren't eligible for this promotion, but the majority of Europe, plus Australia, Canada and parts of Asia are all included. Alongside the recent promise of two free games a month, Microsoft's made this bundled subscription a pretty tempting proposition.

Marc Whitten says "shame on us" for not communicating, engaging with community better
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Microsoft's original online policies for Xbox One were so unpopular the company backtracked on them after a solid month of criticism from the gaming press and public. But even that decision produced some blowback, as last week an online petition calling on Microsoft to return to its original Xbox One policies caused a stir. Speaking to IGN, Xbox One chief product officer Marc Whitten said the outcry ultimately points to shortcomings on Microsoft's part.
"I think it's pretty simple. We've got to just talk more, get people understanding what our system is," Whitten said. "The thing that's really gratifying is that people are excited about the types of features that are possible, and it's sort of shame on us that we haven't done as good of a job as we can to make people feel like that's where we're headed."
And while Microsoft cancelled plans to launch with some online features like family sharing (in which a game can be shared with other family members digitally), Whitten stressed that the reversal in policy didn't mean Microsoft was backing down from its vision of Xbox One as an online-focused system.
"I see people feeling like we've moved away from digital, when certainly I don't believe that's the case. I believe we've added on choice for people. It was an addition of a feature onto Xbox One, not a removal of a feature... Frankly, I think we need to just do more to let people see how the console works, what they're going to be able to do for it. I think a lot of the things they're wishing for are frankly there."
Whitten said Microsoft's Xbox One reveal and E3 events went well, but suggested the company could have done better with the community outreach surrounding those shows.
"One of the things I think we learned was that we didn't talk enough, and we were incomplete in a lot of how using the system would work," Whitten said. "Because we weren't participating in the conversation in a deep enough way, it got us sort of off cycle about how we talk about our program. I think we've learned a lot of lessons. And I think it's something that you're going to see a lot more from us, frankly, is engaging more with the community. I think it's the number one thing I'd want to do if I went back, was have the conversation more open and more complete."

Ubisoft's development legend Michel Ancel has said that only the next-generation consoles could handle his ideas for Beyond Good & Evil 2.
The sequel to the acclaimed 2003 title has been teased for years now, and it was confirmed in 2011 that the game would not be coming out on current consoles.
Now the game's creator has told IGN why.
Players will once again play investigative reporter Jade, but this time Ancel wants to give them the change to actually feel like they're in charge of their investigation, rather than follow a storyline written by developers.
Ancel also teased the possibility of flying between cities and even planets.
"I think we were doing something too big for this period," Ancel said. "Honestly, it was too challenging to put that on [current] consoles.
"I don't say the consoles were not good enough, I don't say the team was not good enough, but you have to scale what you want to do and the console itself.
"I think now with those new consoles arriving, yes, we want to try again making that game. I would say it's surprising, as we want it to be. Not just a sequel, but something that really makes all the ideas that we had for the first one possible now with these consoles."
Of course, there's still no word on when (or if) Beyond Good & Evil 2 will even be reelased.

GameStop is no longer accepting pre-orders for the Xbox One Day One Edition.
A spokesperson for the retailer told Joystiq that “due to high demand,” the Day One Edition of the console is no longer up for reservation. PS4 pre-orders at GameStop wererecently halted for the same reason.
The chain offers a mailing list sign-up for anyone interested in learning when more editions have been made available.
Other retailers have reported they are quickly running out of stock as well – including Amazon, who is no longer taking PS4 or Xbox One pre-orders. That said, Best Buy has just reopened pre-orders for the special edition of the hardware.

Outrageously successful online game Minecraft is getting even more LEGO merchandise.
LEGO teamed up with the developer Mojang last year for some LEGO, and now from early September even more is set to reach consumers – entitled The Village and The Nether. Both were unveiled at Comic-Con and have a US retail price of $35.
These sets are only released in limited quantities, and don’t have wide distribution.
The Nether features an Obsidian Nether Portal, gravel, bedrock flowing lava, and two Ghast and one zombie Pigman Micromob figures.
The Village lets fans create their own village, construct houses, grow crops, and avoid zombies and dynamite. It also comes with villager, pig and zombie figures.

Updates will reportedly install smoothly in the background
Xbox One users will be able to simultaneously download content whilst playing games.
A Microsoft representative confirmed the news to Polygon.
It means Xbox One users will be able to download content from Xbox Live without interrupting their gameplay.
When unveiling the Xbox One back in May, Microsoft stated that the next-gen console would let users play disc-based games whilst installing content.
However, the ambiguity of the statement left many in the dark as to whether the new console would fix the issue bemoaned by Xbox 360 users.
