A patch enabling Fable II players to play with another person online over Xbox Live is on track to be released the first day the game is available in stores, according to Lionhead Studios head Peter Molyneux.
On Sept. 26, Microsoft let gamers know the title would not ship with online cooperative play and that the feature would be delivered in the form of an online update later, most likely within a week after the game's launch.
In an interview at the Tokyo Game Show, the Fable II creator told IGN, "I'm almost certain we'll have it for a day-one patch," when asked when gamers can expect the promised feature.
Molyneux said he could not point to one specific problem the development team had during the feature's implementation but rather said it was a matter of getting everything in the game to work smoothly over Xbox Live.
Fable II is scheduled for release on Oct. 21 in the U.S. So if Peter Molyneux gets his way, expect the online patch that day as well.

During his keynote at the 2008 Tokyo Game Show, Microsoft's John Schappert announced that beloved fighting franchise Tekken would be making the leap to the Xbox 360 in 2009 with Tekken 6. The Xbox 360 version will feature the Bloodline Rebellion update that recently went live in Japanese arcades, which introduces two new characters, Alisa Boskonovich and Lars Alexanderson. This marks the first time the series has appeared outside of a Sony, and while it isn't an exclusive, Tekken 6 with Xbox Live multiplayer is a major boon for 360 owners around the world. Look for it next fall.

Microsoft has announced Halo 3 Recon with the tagline "new hero, new campaign, prepare to drop fall 2009". The game will include new multiplayer maps and Forge content in addition to, clearly, new single-player content.
According to Xbox.com, it's a "standalone expansion" that "lets you experience events leading up to the epic story told in Halo 3 through the eyes of a new hero in the Halo universe".
"The Halo 3: Recon campaign is an intriguing side story that takes place during the terrifying events leading up to the Master Chief's return to New Mombasa in Halo 3," the announcement says.
"Experience the fate of Earth from the brand-new perspective of a special forces ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper), adding a unique outlook and new gameplay elements to the events that unfold in the trilogy’s finale. While the feel of this new chapter greatly resembles that of previous Halo experiences, Halo 3: Recon will require you to employ more elements of stealth and cunning than ever before."
Revealed during John Schappert's TGS keynote, Recon was trailed by the second part of what Ellie has labelled "the Madeleine trailer", by which she means the Keep It Clean vid.
The new trailer saw shots of buildings, a meteor storm of some sort, dust clouds, "Lumumba 2594" written in the bottom-right of the screen, and then a ship hovering over debris, out of which someone emerged and scoped out a few brutes nearby.

Aw, and we were just starting to miss our Blu-box graphic ... Sure enough, after several months of peaceful bliss, here we are again on the verge of an Xbox 360 Blu-ray announcement! Or not. Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology Corp. (not to be confused with plain old "Toshiba Corp.," which is apparently "strictly against Blu-ray") has allegedly been contracted to manufacture an external Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360, reports X-bit labs. The drives are rumored to retail at around $100 to $150 in an attempt to cut into PlayStation 3 sales (combine a $150 drive with the Xbox 360 Arcade, for example, and the total cost would be $350).
X-bit labs speculates Microsoft may launch the external drive this holiday, but with reportedly low sales, Blu-ray could likely wait until a proper CES unveiling. Still, we've got TGS popping off in mere hours and Blu-ray's clock ticking down every day. No time to waste then?

Ubisoft has delayed the Xbox 360 VIP demo of Tom Clancy's EndWar again.
The sampler, reserved for pre-orders of the game, was supposed to launch yesterday, but the company appears to be struggling to get the demo onto all regional Xbox Live Marketplaces.
The new estimate is "hours rather than days ", according to the official forums. And Ubisoft is sending out an additional code to VIPs as compensation.
Those not invited will also be given a chance to test EndWar in an open demo, which should arrive around a week before the release date of 7th November.

Newly released today:
features
Use weapons to fracture, crater, freeze, or elevate the earth. Raise and lower terrain to provide cover, discover hidden pathways, and mold the war zone to your own advantage
Follow the journey of a patriotic Atlantic Alliance soldier when an act of treason launches him into the battlefield, as forces wage a battle of genetics vs. cybernetics
The last World Wars were fought in Europe, but the next great global war will be fought on American soil
Battle in famous locations across the United States
description
The world is in chaos. After years of neglecting the environment, nature has fought back with devastating effect. Earthquakes, floods and tornadoes have reduced the United States to a mere shadow of its former self, effectively cutting the East and West coasts off from each other. And with division has come dissent. Thousands died and those that survived were forced to adapt to a new way of life. In the East, the path to survival was paved with technology and cybernetic enhancement. In the West, survival of the fittest took on new meaning with stem cell research and genetic modification. These two ideologies and ways of life lead to a division so great that war is the only course of action.
In Fracture™, take on the role of Atlantic Alliance soldier Jet Brody as he goes against the genetically enhanced Pacificans and their fanatical leader General Nathan Sheridan. Unleash the power of terrain-deforming weapons that literally reshape the battlefield before your very eyes, and decimate your enemies with a wide array of weapons with earth-shattering effects.
Reshape the battlefield. Reshape the battle. For the sake of mankind and the future of humanity.

Having given Fable 2 9/10 in his own unofficial review last month, Lionhead's Peter Molyneux is now dispensing tips and instructions to those of us who had to wait.
According to Variety, US review copies were accompanied with letters from Molyneux asking critics to "please, please, please, please, please find somebody who doesn't play games, watch them play it and see how their world turns out, because I think it's only when you see those differences that the unique experiences comes through".
Fable 2 was designed to "appeal to anybody", he said, and it's certainly been a theme of Molyneux's public pronouncements and the systems upon which the game is built, including the simple combat mechanics and the dog, who acts as a visual cue for a lot of content and events you might otherwise miss at a glance.
Molyneux also explained that the delayed online co-op mode would not be available to review until after the game comes out.
Lionhead is far from the first developer to issue letters and pleas with its review code, as you might imagine. Most recently, in a letter accompanying copies of Alone in the Dark from Atari, developer Eden Studios spoke up for its unorthodox design and politely asked reviewers to pay attention to it.
Fable 2 is due out exclusively for Xbox 360 on 24th October, and you can read our most recent Fable 2 hands-on preview for more information, and check out last week's interview with senior folks on the Fable 2 art team for more insight into the game's development.

Eidos is to release exclusive Tomb Raider: Underworld content for the Xbox 360, amounting to around six hours of extra material in two distinct chapters.
The first chapter, Beneath the Ashes, will be available over Xbox Live Marketplace this Christmas, with the second chapter, Lara's Shadow, due early 2009.
"We’re thrilled that Xbox owners will be able to extend their Lara Croft adventures with exclusive Tomb Raider: Underworld episodes," commented George Peckham, general manager of global third party publishing for Microsoft.
"We look forward to continue working closely with our great publishing partners to deliver the most robust gaming experiences, only on Xbox 360."
Tomb Raider: Underworld isn't the only high-profile title with exclusive downloadable content for the Xbox 360. New content for Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV is expected on the console before the end of the year.
Tomb Raider: Underworld will also be released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PC, Wii and DS.

Fans have found a rather calamitous multiplayer bug in Rock Band 2 that wipes groups from the hard drive.
The issue only seems to be affecting Xbox 360, according to the Rock Band forums (spotted by Kotaku). It triggers on consoles with a Live enabled primary account and non-Live enabled secondary account. Probably quite common, that.
If that's the case, then a frustratingly long way into the campaign the tour band will disappear, a bit like Chesney Hawks. The only option is to restart, risking the glitch being triggered again somewhere down the line.
Despite fan grumbles, developer Harmonix has made no mention of the bug in over three weeks. Distributor EA is looking into the matter.
Rock Band 2 is only available in the US on Xbox 360 for the moment, and has yet to be given any kind of European date. But that's not stopped us getting a copy, and we'll bring you a review later this week.

Free Radical has released the first concept art for Timesplitters 4, and it's looking good.
The art shows parodies of various other games including Cat Racing: Underground (Need for Speed) and Sister Jobeth Vs Zombie Apocalypse (could be any shooter).
We're liking the humour angle but the question is, will it be any good after the pretty average Haze? We've got our fingers crossed.
See the pics over on Free Radical's site.

The recent round of price cuts for the Xbox 360 is not a reaction to slowing sales for the home console, according to Microsoft's Steve Ballmer.
Speaking to the Mercury News, the chief executive said the Xbox business is an unqualified success, with the console continuing to sell well.
"That's the craziest thing I've ever heard anybody say," offered Ballmer when asked whether price reductions were evidence that Microsoft had run out of ideas to boost hardware sales. "All consoles start at higher prices. They always come down through the long cycle."
Although Microsoft has now cut the price of the hardware twice in one year, raising questions about offering lower prices within six months of each other, Ballmer said pricing strategies are never discussed outside of the company.
"Price is not something you discuss externally. Nobody ever does. So, whether we were planning on cutting price the next day or in six months or a year, we're not going to discuss price changes. If you ask me, Xbox Live is going gangbusters. The console is selling well."
He added: "I certainly would say the work that we've done around Xbox is an unqualified success. No question about that. The product is selling very well. The Xbox is an absolute home run."
Following last month's price cuts, the Xbox 360 has sold over six million sales in Europe.

We were awakened last night by a terrible din -- a wailing which echoed through our streets like a funeral dirge. The sound poured from nearby houses; voices making slightly varied proclamations with a singular theme. In near-unison, they pierced the night: "WHERE IS MASTER CHIEF?", "WHY NO LASER SWORDS?", and, perplexingly, "GEOFF KEIGHLEY, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH CORTANA?"
These confused souls were reacting to the cinematic trailer for Ensemble Studios' swan song, Halo Wars, which debuted on GameTrailers TV last night. For those who were laying eyes upon the title for the first time, we can understand any resulting bewilderment. The trailer (which we've posted after the break) is excellent, though it boldly lacks the things players love about the series to date -- including any sign of returning characters, or any heinous acts of postmortem facial desecration.

As the fall update and accompanying New Xbox Experience creep ever closer to our purring, anticipatory 360s, further details about the renovated dashboard continue to surface -- the latest of these is a sneak peek at how the Games Store will function under the NXE, courtesy of Xbox community site Gamerscore Blog.
To put it simply, the new Games Store will provide every game with its own comprehensive page, complete with tabs displaying screenshots, trailers, information about the title, and all available downloads pertaining to the game. If that made little to no sense, they've got a more detailed rundown on Gamerscore Blog -- but it finally seems like we won't have to search through an ocean of DLC to find those Bomberman: Act Zero gamerpics we've been coveting for oh-so-long.
