EA has slapped a firm European street date on Rock Band 2, with the game hitting shelves on November 21 and the hardware to follow in an as yet unspecified date in December.
Early word came yesterday via one of EA's external PR companies, but now it's official - Rock Band 2 is coming to Europe this year. It looks to be a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360, with no word on when the PlayStation 3 version will launch in Europe, and while the software is being priced at 49.99 GBP (69.99 EUR), there's no confirmation of how much the hardware will retail for.
Rock Band 2 earned a 9.0 when released in the US this September, and we'll be chiming in with our own opinions soon.

Robin Burrowes, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) product manager for Xbox LIVE, told VideoGamer.com at a recent hands-on preview event for the New Xbox Experience that the company plans to launch a dedicated store for the upcoming Xbox 360 Avatars.
With the release of The New Xbox Experience, the Xbox 360 will get their own Miis in the form of Avatars, customizable graphical representations of Xbox Live users tied to Xbox 360 profiles. At launch, there will be a bunch of accessories for these Avatars available free of charge, but in 2009 Microsoft plans to create a store where Xbox Live users will be able to buy new accesories

It's a fantasy we've all indulged in: rummaging through forgotten history, examining ancient artifacts, dodging rickety death traps and fending off ferocious wildlife ... all whilst donning impossibly tight bathing suits that highlight our extraordinarily proportioned bodies. Also, we have an indestructible ponytail and a posh, British accent.
Though still strictly considered fantasy, the 1.3GB Tomb Raider: Underworld demo, now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, at least makes things a little more tangible. Download it, kick some ferocious creature in the face and let us know what you think. Lara makes her prim and proper return on November 18th.

You already know the Xbox 360 is getting new community features, a revamped dashboard, Avatars, and of course Netflix video -- all things we've been excited about since we saw them in action at E3 this year. There hasn't been much to go on since then, but we recently came across some short videos exhibiting Parties (which let users socialize and make plans while engaging in separate games and activities) and Avatar customization options; hopefully they'll hold you over until the features go live November 19th. We won't be held responsible for the brain deterioration caused by the vacuous marketing-speak accompanying the moving images, however. "It is where you get to enjoy entertainment -- that's the vision." Yes, it is.

"The latest models of Microsoft's digital music player are very nice, and the software's getting better. But the MP3 player market is fading, judging from Apple's latest earnings report. It said iPod sales fell 1 percent last quarter, and that was before the financial crisis. Meanwhile, the Zune still is fighting for a toehold. The growth now is in mobile devices that function as music players, phones and browsers. And to match the latest iPods, Zune needs costly upgrades: touch screens and a developer program. My guess is there won't be another generation of Zune hardware after the holidays; Zune software and Web services will be folded into other Microsoft offerings."
This is definitely not the first, or last, of the rampant speculation we'll see from journalists as they try to be the first to predict what Microsoft is going to cut (or cut back on) in order to trim the $400 to $500 million dollars from their budget as they said they would. Will the Zune get axed? I doubt it - Microsoft knows that there's money to be made in the MP3 player space, especially if those devices strengthen the eventual weakening of the Windows ecosystem as more and more of what we do on computers gets pushed up into the cloud. Devices matter, and the Zune is part of a larger overall ecosystem that's important to Microsoft.

It's far cooler than you might think
It's unfortunate but understandable that the Avatars have grabbed the most attention out of all the NXE's new additions. You see while the grinning Mii-too cartoon characters had led many people - us included - to expect a horrible, tween-oriented, My Dashboardz abomination, NXE is actually a pretty damn classy interface.
It sounds strange when talking about something that's essentially a set of images on a 2D screen, but NXE has a really airy and expansive feel about it. While we personally have no problem at all with our beloved blades, an hour with NXE showed up just how much we didn't know we were missing. We'd never understood those who complain that the current dashboard feels clunky and crowded. Going back to it for comparison after NXE however, we now really do.
The main element responsible for that is undoubtedly the new floating windows layout. Where currently all the information related to a particular area of the Xbox 360 is crammed onto a single page and hidden behind further menus, the new windows give all of the functionality a lot more breathing space. A vertically scrolling text menu contains every sub-section - Welcome, Spotlight, the Marketplaces, Friends etc. - with each flick up or down bringing up a run of horizontally scrolling windows detailing that area's content.

Saints Row 2 might have only been out a fortnight but that hasn't stopped the developer dropping word that a third version is not only on the cards - it's already in development. Volition doesn't mess about kids.
Speaking to Play, associate producer Dan Sutton explained, "Well, we knew a lot of people were upset with the last one because they were playing it and it was like "oh gosh, I've got to wait for the next one", but in SR2 we tie-up a lot of loose ends. I think we tie it up deliberately. We've already started work on Saints Row 3, and we have a new direction we want to go in with that which we of course can't talk about. We wrap up a lot in this one. There's no frustration."
Sutton added the third game will take different direction but gave no indication as to what this may be.
If you're loving Saints Row 2 and want to know what DLC plans Volition and THQ have. Look no further: "We haven't announced them yet, but we are looking at bigger stuff definitely. Like we had the ho-ho-ho pack, clothing, that kind of thing, now we're looking at multiplayer maps, another story arc, new characters. We're looking at a lot more scope, and I know we're going to come up with a lot more."
Terra Patrick could also appear in DLC. She has to. Otherwise we can categorically say the whole thing was nothing more than a cheap PR stunt, which of course it wasn't. At all.
More from Sutton here.

via Kotaku
Starting November 25th, gamers across the country wandering through the music section of their favorite big box store on the way to the video game section might just pause for a moment and go “Huh” as Sumthing Else Music Works releases the Gears of War 2 soundtrack to retail outlets. The soundtrack was composed by Hollywood composer Steve Jablonsky, whose work you may recognize from big-budget productions such as Transformers, The Island, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
“Epic gave me a blank canvas, which was really great,” said Steve Jablonsky, Composer for Gears of War 2. “I experimented with a lot of hybrid organic/electronic elements, and combined them with the power of a large orchestra and choir.”
Nothing says epic event quite like an orchestra and a choir, right? Worked for Halo after all. Heck, it even worked for Advent Rising, even if the epic had the word 'fail' after it.

via Eurogamer
Lionhead has said that fixing the Abbot bug in Fable II is a "matter of priority", and that a patch to fix the multiplayer glitch stripping characters of gold and experience will be made available "very soon".
"We are aware that a minority of people playing Fable II over the last few days have encountered an issue where the Abbot becomes unresponsive at the beginning of Monks Quest in Oakfield," one of the developers wrote on the official Lionhead forum.
"This is an isolated issue, but we are currently looking into it as a matter of priority," the poster continued.
"If you have already encountered this issue, there is unfortunately no work-around at this time, but we will keep you updated on any progress made.
There's no date for the patch at present, but the issue only seems to occur if you run away from the Abbot when he starts talking to you for the first time. If his cut-scene finishes, you should have no problem.
"Some things slip through the net during development, especially when a game is the size and scope of Fable II," adds the post.
"Again, we can only apologise for this issue, but we are doing our best. We might be silent on these boards, but we are watching and listening to you, the community, and are looking into all serious issues that are bought to our attention."
One thing that came up on the forum following the game's launch was the discovery that there is only one save slot available per character in Fable II, although you can have up to five characters per profile.
Fable II was released last Friday, and hits the shelves running after some serious critical acclaim, including a 10/10 from Eurogamer. Head over to our Fable II review to find out why.
