360 hasn't been doing too badly in Japan lately, having recently outsold PS3 for six weeks running. And The Last Remnant could be the game to give the platform that extra kick it needs in the Far East.
The Square Enix RPG has score a massive 38/40 in Famitsu magazine scoring 10, 10, 9 and 9 from its four reviewers (via NeoGAF).
Full translations of the review are yet to filter through, but from that score we're guessing they like it. And Square expects our western brains to like it too.
"Our goal with The Last Remnant was always to make a game that would be welcomed by a global audience," said producer Nobuyuki Ueda recently.
"Our fans across Europe have been very supportive towards us, and we wanted to give them the opportunity to play the game at the same time as fans in Japan. We hope they'll enjoy playing The Last Remnant as much as we have enjoyed making it," he added.
The game's due out worldwide on 360 on November 20.

A new piece of Halo 3 Recon artwork has emerged in the form of US mag Game Informer's forthcoming cover, which hits the shops next week.
The mag promises "10 pages packed full of info and screenshots straight from Bungie," and hopefully - unlike Halo 3 - it won't just be a load of multiplayer stuff to tease us even more than we already have.
Bungie has previously referred to the standalone expansion as its "Frozen Throne" (in reference to Blizzard's content-packed Warcraft III expansion) and said it's "not viewing this as a full game."
A single-player campaign following the antics of a hard-nut Orbital Drop Shock Trooper as well as new maps and multiplayer content are promised.
Look out for the details hitting the internet soon then.

The original Xbox was no toy. It weighed more than your kid. The controller brought new meaning to "man hands" -- the darn thing was known as the "Duke," after all. In short, this was a man's console. And what could be manlier than a "mankind-vs-aliens space opera," its featured launch title?
Time has honored the big rig as one of its "Top 10 Microsoft Moments," barely nudging out the disastrous Vista launch for the #8 spot (er, chronologically, at least). To make this moment more meta, let's all share our top Xbox moments in the comments below. Was it when your house burned down? Or the time dad nailed it to a tree? Or how about installing that really groovy mod chip?

Microsoft appears to be preparing three more games for the budget Xbox Live Arcade Hits range.
Halved in price to 400 MS Points (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.80) will be Worms, Feeding Frenzy and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, according to the list on the official US Xbox website.
However, we've had a scout around the Live service and can find no mention of the games in the XBLA Hits section.
Of the three, Worms will attract the most attention. This version recycles the classical formula of old, which, if you can stomach it, still holds plenty of local head-to-head charm. Head over to our Worms XBLA review for more.
Reviews of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 suggest a faithful port with online battles, while critiques of Feeding Frenzy paint a dismal picture.
Our picks of the rest of the Xbox Live Arcade Hits are DOOM, Marble Blast Ultra, and Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords.
All, except the latter, cost 400 Microsoft Points (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.80). Puzzle Quest began at a higher price point, and therefore halves to 800 MS Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60).
We've asked Microsoft for further clarification on dates.

The Elite and Pro editions of the console have experienced the biggest price reductions, dropping AU$100 each with the Elite now retailing at AU$549 and the Pro going for AU$499. The Arcade version has taken a further cut too, dropping from AU$350 to AU$300.
The price cuts come after the benchmark pricecut made 6 months ago; where the 360 Arcade became the cheapest TV Console in the territory. Microsoft says that the Xbox 360 Arcade continues to be the best-selling console in the region.
According to the Austrlian arm of retail giant GAME, the Wii retails for around AU$399 and the 40GB PS3 sells at AU$699.
Microsoft's UK head of gaming, Stephen McGill, had recently said that the 360 will not see a drop in price for "many years" in the UK.
One Australian dollar is worth around $0.66 [US] and £0.43 at the time of writing.

I’ve gotten a few messages and seen some forum threads pop up on console bannings so I thought I’d post and let folks know what’s up. In our our continued effort to keep gameplay safe and secure for our community of more than 14 million members, Microsoft has taken action against a small percentage of Xbox 360 consoles that have been illegally modified in order to play pirated games. You should know that modifying your Xbox 360 console is also a violation of the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void your warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE. The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive, both from manufacturers and the local companies that support them. We will continue to employ and bolster anti-piracy security measures to counter piracy in the gaming industry and improve security in the Xbox LIVE community.

In addition to the 2 million copies of Gears of War 2 that flew off the shelves over the weekend, LIVE was pretty active as well. More than 1.5 million people signed into "Gears of War 2" during the weekend, racking up a total 15 million gameplay hours and helping set a new record for concurrent LIVE players. These players also collectively unlocked more than 19 million GoW2 Achievements.

Capcom announced a release date for Dead Rising: Zombie no Ikenie, better known as Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop here, will come out on February 19 in Japan. This version of Dead Rising breaks down the Xbox 360 game into a series of missions and utilizes the control scheme from Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition.
You can point at the screen with the remote to aim and shoot at zombies. However, if you’re expecting the same experience you’re going to be sorely disappointed. As it’s been mentioned many times before Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop doesn’t pile the screen with zombies like the Xbox 360 game so you get a totally different kind of game. Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is more like a light gun game than Dead Rising. Actually, Capcom should have gone with a straight light gun spin off or Dead Rising Snap. Both could have worked and prevented inevitable comparisons to the original game.
Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop costs 7,340 yen ($75) in Japan, but I don’t expect Capcom USA to sell the game for that much. Retailers in the USA are currently pricing Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop at $39.99.

With two different storage mediums in hand, the fine folks at Eurogamer have done what any gadget-loving geek would and should do: pit them against each other and fill numerous tables with the numerical results. The scintillating statfest concerns the loading times of Xbox 360 games, most of which seem to show a notable, albeit unimpressive, improvement when installed to the hard drive via the New Xbox Experience.
Interestingly, it's The Orange Box's Half-Life 2 component which benefits the most out of all the test subjects, with initial loading time cut down from 44.5 seconds (wow, really?) to 25.5 quiet, whoosh-less seconds. Another notable game is shoot-teh-alienz epic, Halo 3 -- it actually fares worse when installed to the hard drive. Which is just as well, really, since we'd rather have the drive noise drown out the 13-year-olds killing us. Repeatedly.

We're barely surviving 2008's consumerism climax and already publishers are dangling their 2009 wares in front of us. Alright, Square Enix, we'll play your despicable game, if only to take our minds off the current gaming glut. Square Enix's North American (and heavily subtitled) lineup for Q1 2009 is as follows:
Star Ocean: Second Evolution (PSP / 6 Jan.): Being the remastered portable version of the interstellar -- and considered by some to be just plain stellar -- sequel. Features new voice work, new cutscenes and people crying in space.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (DS / 17 Feb.): Being the hitherto unlocalized entry in the venerable RPG series. Yes, Dragon Ball Z guy designed these characters too.
Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Xbox 360 / 3 Mar.): Being tri-Ace's long-awaited continuation of the science-fiction franchise. The subtitle implies that this is a big deal for the Xbox 360 in Japan.
Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (DS / 17 Mar.): Being the third instalment in the respected Valkyrie Profile series. If you're looking for an explanation of the title, we're afraid you're plume out of luck.

Xbox exec Don Mattrick has claimed that he created avatars way back in 1991.
I'm claiming to have invented avatars," the senior VP of the Xbox business told OXM in an interview about the upcoming 'New Xbox Experience'.
""I did 4D Sports Boxing! Do you know what 4D Boxing was? Hey, you should be writing this! That was me. C'mon! It's human, it's in 3D, it has a face... it was genuinely the first time there was something human-shaped in 3D! Look it up!"
While Mattrick's comments perhaps seem a little tongue in cheek, his company Distinctive Software did develop 4D Sports Boxing in 1991, and it does appear it may have been the first game to feature controllable human figures in 3D.
We assume he wants to put the point across because of the growing role of avatars in gaming, and because he's keen to stress that MS isn't simply copying someone else.
According to fellow Xbox exec Aaron Greenberg Microsoft's avatars "aren't exactly a new concept, but what is unique about them is integrating them so completely with our social network, and even integrating them into our games. Across the whole network - so you can use them in and out of games as your persona".
Anyway, whoever created avatars isn't really the point. The fact is, avatars look set to play an increasingly big role in gaming in the coming years. Aside from Nintendo's existing Mii characters and Microsoft's upcoming avatars, Sony's virtual world Home will also be heavily centred around avatars.
Personally it's all about the quality of gaming and not the amount of options you have for customising a 3D virtual representation of yourself, but if you like that type of thing there's plenty of it on the way for you.

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser says he's "not sure" if Grand Theft Auto IV's highly lauded downloadable content will be out this year.
Speaking to Variety's Cut-Scene blog during GTA IV's Japanese press rounds, Houser says that Rockstar hopes to announce something "in the next few weeks".
"It's going well," the creative VP told the site. "But we don't know a date. We hope to be announcing that in the next few weeks.
"We're still figuring out a few things. We're more focused on quality than dates, always have been. But the development is going really good. It's shaping up to be something we're very proud of. That was our goal".
Houser didn't offer details on what, other than the date, Rockstar will be announcing in the coming weeks but he says he wants to give people a rough idea on what to expect, "so their expectations are roughly in line".
"We don't want them to imagine it's this enormous thing that it can never be," he said.
"Doing a big digital launch is something we've never done before. It's virgin territory, but at the same time, we feel very exposed because there's no case history. No one ever came out with major DLC for a major game like this before."

Behind the jump, there are photos of a Tubgirl Xbox 360 faceplate. I am warning you, it's horrible and, obviously, NSFW. You don't want to see it. If you don't know what Tubgirl is, believe me when I say that in this case, ignorance really is bliss. But if you really must see the faceplate, which was a gift made by request for Cliffy B., the brains behind Gears of War 2 (and 1 for that matter), I'll show it to you. OK, well, there isn't much else to say, so here it is, you sickos.
