There have been a few blurry screenshots floating around the web that promise a $299 Xbox 360—a $50 reduction on the current 20GB model. But these latest pictures from a Gamestop employee are by far the most conclusive. The first is of an internal document that's not to be opened until 7/13 (the Sunday before this year's E3). And in not-so-subtle letters it announces "Xbox 360 Pro Systems $299.99

Epic's Cliff Bleszinski has said that current control pads look like alien spaceships, and hopes the Microsoft's next Xbox will come with a pad with fewer buttons.
"I hope if there's a new Xbox that there'll be fewer buttons on the controller," he told us during a chat about Gears 2's multiplayer.
"This is purely me speculating in my own realm of game development, but if you look at a controller right now it looks like an alien spaceship," he added, going on to point at alternative methods of interaction.
"I think you could do things with a built-in camera or a little motion sensitivity. You look at the Wii controller with less buttons - they added functionality by doing waggle. Not a lot of games use the waggle well, but Super Mario Galaxy for example uses it perfectly. Zak and Wiki uses it rather well," he said.
"There are other ways of providing interactivity without having every single finger doing something at once on a friggin' controller."
So what should the hardware guys be doing in future, Cliff? "I've seen some prototype camera stuff that some friends are working on that can actually tell the depth of the world around the player, and can track individual finger movements and stuff like that. That's exciting stuff, and I think that's where it all needs to start going towards."
Look out for the full interview later today. In the meantime be sure to check out our hands-on impressions here, which also has new screens and in-game footage of Gears 2's multiplayer.

via Eurogamer
Damnation developer Blue Omega reckons there was "no frigging way" BioShock should have ended up being successful.
Game designer Jason Minkoff was comparing it to Damnation to illustrate that all you can do in the shooter genre is pour your heart into a project and hope it gets noticed.
"We're just making the best we can, because a good game is a good game. And if you make a good game, somebody is going to notice and somebody is going to play it," Jason Minkoff told Eurogamer on our trip to see Damnation.
"Take BioShock: no frigging way that thing should have actually worked out. Fantastic game, awesome design, and beautiful artwork, but the thing is a damn underwater Steampunk 1930s combo thing. How should that ever have done well?
"But it's a damn good game. They just put their hearts into it and happened to hit the mark. And that's what we're trying to do."
Minkoff went on to talk about the lottery of launching and finding you're maybe not in fashion that season, or launching and hitting it "right on the nose" and winding up as successful someone like Valve.
Whatever the result, Minkoff firmly believes a good game will not go unnoticed by a publisher and hey presto you get your next project commissioned.
Damnation is due out on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 this winter.

Too Human, the game that rivals Duke Nukem Forever in terms legendary development stretches, is almost, finally ready for release.
The 360 exclusive bruiser has been dated for August 19, and - in case you've managed to dodge its epic ten year 'conception' time - it's about a gritty Nordic future where machines battle bald blokes with massive hammers.
It's been getting some hit-and-miss feedback from the games press, but we enjoyed it for what it is when we played it earlier this year - a decent co-op hack 'n slasher.
You can check out the latest video via this link, and look out for more hands-on impressions and our verdict shortly.
Phew. A whole Too Human story without mentioning the Epic lawsuit or NeoGAF. We deserve some Chewits for that.

The latest Bungie podcast, which features the usual internal shenanigans — we get up to speed on the developer's air conditioning situation whilst discussing all things Halo — ends with a potential tease about the team's next title being revealed. After lamenting the lack of hard, breaking news over the course of the 91-minute(!) podcast, co-hosts Brian Jarrard and Luke Smith cruelly tease something being revealed at E3.
The following exchange wraps up the Bungie Podcast.
Brian: Isn't there something going on on July 14th or something like that?
Luke: Yeah, around then.
Brian: Somehow that's sticking in my head for some reason. Guess we'll have to see.
Luke: Yep, we'll just have to be patient. Who could say?
No, not very helpful. Listening to it though, is very different from reading it, as Smith and Jarrard's delivery leaves little doubt that Bungie has something up its sleeve.
We're sure that since both Microsoft and EA are holding their press conferences that day, at least one of them is going to announce something good. And it might even be Bungie related. And it might even have something to do with that little plunger man they've been shoving in our faces all year.

Microsoft has decided to release the Fable 2 Pub Games on Live Arcade this August.
You can get these for free by pre-ordering the standard or fancy edition of the game, or by shelling-out 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) - we're that will get you all three, but it may end up being the cost of each.
The three Fable 2 Pub Games are called Keystonr, Spinnerbox and Fortune's Tower, and are each variation of popular casino pursuits such as roulette and craps, slot machines and press your luck - a sort of pyramid card game.
Most exciting for Fable 2 fans is the ability to carry your winnings into the the role-playing game when it's released later this year. Game designer Peter Molyneux reckons you could start Fable II as a millionaire if you put enough time in.
The Collector's Edition, incidentally, comes with a "Making Of" DVD, a collectable Hobbe figure, some in-game content and a Live trial card to get it with.
Fable 2 is due out exclusively on Xbox 360 this winter.

This week, try your hand at a fast paced co-op based shooter with Schizoid or a more laid back round of golf with Golf: Tee It Up.
Schizoid has been billed as one of the best co-op action games ever. Buddy up with a friend online or offline (or play single-player with an AI partner) and blast through waves of enemies. Enemy waves are made up of two colors - you and your partner are two colors - so you've guessed it, the same colors can kill the same colors. I realize I've probably confused you so go download the game and try it out. Once you get in there, you'll see what's going on.
Schizoid will be 800 Microsoft Points
Golf: Tee It Up!, also available on Wednesday. Customize your golfer and enjoy a few holes or compete in an 18 hole tournament online or offline.
Some game modes available are Stroke, Cup and matchplay.
Golf: Tee It Up! will be 800 Microsoft Points

As requested via a mod this thread is to be labeled as a Rumor, so please take it like that.
Today I ran across some information.
However I do live in an area with a good deal of employees/contractors from a rather large corporation and have worked with some of them in my past.
So lets start off with some of the info I was given starting with the 360 in general.
From what I was told during a conversation;
Microsoft seems to be slimming the system down to a 'Wii-like' size. (A Fat overweight Wii )
This model should have the CPU+GPU Combo Dye with the E-DRAM off to the side.
Thats all the information I have on that.
Now I'm not 100% sure on this so do not get hyped up, but speculated release is Late Winter 2008ish?
Side note, ATI/AMD has been working on a CPU/GPU Combo dye for sometime. LINK
Clairifying this section... guess I confused some people. Its not the Xbox 360, its the Next Gen system.
As for the Xbox,
The Next Generation Xbox after the Xbox 360... thats expected to have a Blu-Ray Drive?, 1TB HDD, and a Quad-Core CPU.
Speculative Date is considered 2010~.
(Considering its still early these are most likely to change.)
They also mentioned the spec sheet for the console was leaked. ?
Lastly, the handheld xbox-like device. As far as I know its considered a "Pie-in-the-sky".

Codemasters has responded to irate Race Driver: GRID fans that were stripped of their hard earned ranks in the recent server-wide reset.
"Given the number of reports we've had of people abusing the ranking system to get unfair ranks, it was only fair that we did a reset," said Rich Tysoe, Codemasters' motorsports overseer, on the community forum.
"It's never an easy decision to make, and we'd rather it hadn't come to this, but changes in the patch should make gaining those ranking points back fairer.
"We'd like to think that people play online for the fun of it, not so much the amassing of points, but if you find yourself in this sort of situation, it's the fairest solution," he added.
Tysoe went on to clarify that the reset only applies to online ranking leaderboards on Xbox 360, all other stats and data, including fastest lap times, are unchanged.
Some players had been using the "brown screen" glitch to cheat their way into earning online experience points more quickly and increasing their rank.
However, not all did, and those are still likely to be left with a sour taste in their mouths.

Gamers who pre-order a copy of Lionhead's upcoming RPG sequel Fable 2 will be able to download the game's accompanying Xbox Live Arcade mini-games for free.
Due out in August, the three "pub games" are standalone versions of the mini-games available in the full retail game. The final names of the mini-games are "Keystone," which is a combination of craps and roulette, "Spinnerbox," which is an updated take on slot machines, and "Fortune's Tower," which is a press your luck style of game. The download will also include a Shell, which is a tutorial of all three games.
Gold earned in the three XBLA games (which will also be available as a single 800 MS pt. download) can be transferred to Fable 2, giving players a head start on their adventuring career in Albion. Those who don't need a head-start, the pub games will be included in both the standard and special edition versions of Fable 2.

Bungie is celebrating itself today and offering you a bag of Halo 3 goodies for absolutely free.
Top of the pile is the new Cold Storage map, which is a remake of Chill Out from Halo 1. Plus you can also grab the Legendary Map Pack for a little less money at 600 Microsoft Points (GBP 5 / EUR 7) .
You'll need to have those if you want to join the Cold Storage online playlists, by the way, which will be rotated from today.
Bungie is offering an Xbox 360 theme as well as a bundle of Gamerpics, too. These will only be available today, so you had better get moving.

Police have released a 911 call from a man claiming that his roommate had been shot and killed by someone.
Officers went to the home at 204 North Greenmount Avenue, where one man was arrested for aggravated murder.
The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Johnny Robert Hyde, Jr. The caller told the 911 dispatcher that he may have been shot in an argument over a video game system.
The caller told 911 that his roommate confessed to killing Hyde sometime late Tuesday night. The caller said his roommate, 30-year-old Mark Burwell, wanted to turn himself in.
Crime scene investigators recovered a weapon that may have been used in the shooting in a dumpster near the house.
Police Chief Steve Moody said, “The 911 communication operators who took the call did a great job of gleaning as much
Burwell was taken into custody. He pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder with a death penalty specification.
In the 911 call, the roommate talked about a possible motive. The caller said that Johnny was trying to steal his X-Box when he just shot him as he was trying to get out of the door.
Moody said, “There is an indication this was over the X-Box, but of course, that is a statement form the defendant.”
The case will eventually be turned over to the grand jury. At this time, Burwell is being held on a $250,000 bond.

Fans of Criterion's vehicular vehicleslaughter sim Burnout Paradise were supposed to receive the title's third major update this coming Thursday, codenamed "Cagney". The vaudevillian actor-turned-downloadable content will give Paradisians the opportunity to play through more than 70 events online in FreeBurn mode -- unfortunately, Paradisians of the Xbox 360 variety will have to wait a bit longer than their PS3 counterparts to enjoy the free update.
Unsurprisingly, the source of the hold-up is the rigorous Xbox Live certification process, which took longer than Criterion had expected. Their new release date for "Cagney" is the following Monday, July 14 -- though this delay won't affect PS3 owners. Nor will it affect DS owners, restaurant entrepreneurs, professional poker players, the current Dalai Lama, or the actual James Cagney, who is, in fact, deceased.

Talking to Gamasutra Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, has been commenting on Microsoft's attempts to attract casual gamers, suggesting that Wii customers are "going to want to graduate to an Xbox 360 experience" over time.
When asked about Nintendo's de-emphasizing of hardware power with the Wii, with Gamasutra's interviewer suggesting that "...if they keep going down this path, they don't really need to make a Wii 2", Microsoft's Greenberg pointedly suggested:
"Everyone says that eventually the novelty will wear off, right? I think that a lot of the people that are buying that console today are not people that have generally bought consoles in the past, right?
You see they're not buying games on it, right? They're buying it, it's like something they break out when people come over, and it's maybe a fun thing, but it's almost like the same people that buy a karaoke machine, you know? They're not really buying it for games, they're just buying it as a novelty."

Now that Blizzard has Activision, undisputed masters of *ahem* "getting the most out of a franchise", looking over their shoulders, would a console port of Diablo III really surprise you, were it to happen? OK, no, look. Calm down. I said were it to happen. Because while it's not confirmed, or even strongly hinted at, it may happen. May. Because Blizzard's Rob pardo has said that it's a "theoretical possibility", and that "of our major franchises, [it's] the one that's most console friendly, for sure". Pretty sure he's talking about the 360 and PS3, there. Can't see Mii support and friend codes really fitting with the whole gates to hell thing.

Criterion has pushed the Xbox 360 "Cagney" update for Burnout Paradise back by four days.
It appears there may have been a hold-up in authentication, with the only explanation on the developer blog claiming Microsoft has it and will release it on 14th July.
The PlayStation 3 version is therefore unaffected and will go live next Thursday as expected. However, no Game Calendar events will happen until "Cagney" is live on both formats. Details of the first calendar events are expected next week.
"Cagney" will be the third significant update to Burnout Paradise so far. Inside it are three extra modes: Road Rage, where four of you race through checkpoints while four others try to stop you; Stunt Run, where you do tricks at the same time to rack up points; and Marked Man, where you all gang up on one person to take them down before they can complete the course.
On top of this are 70 new FreeBurn challenges to get stuck into, a Hunter Olympus and secret Criterion car, fresh liveries, custom soundtrack support on PS3, and a host of bug-fixes asked for by you lot.
Criterion has additional updates "Davis" (with motorbikes and a day-night cycle) and "Eastwood" (with a new island) planned for August and autumn, respectively.

We all know Microsoft won't comment in rumour and speculation but it looks like the publisher is readying a new Halo unveiling for E3 in a few weeks. But will it feature everyone's favourite Chief? Not so, a source tells CVG.
According to a rumour on Sarcastic Gamer, the fourth instalment is already in development: "A very good and anonymous source tells us that Halo 4 is already in full development over at Bungie." Unfortunately there was no further info available on the franchise's movements.
But we've done a little digging of our own and reckon a new Halo game could be revealed at this year's E3.
Whether or not it'll be the Peter Jackson project or the previously rumoured third-person prequel, remains to be seen. Believe us we've tried poking, threatening, starving and even tickling to find out more. But nothing...
At the end of May we revealed that, even though most of Microsoft's E3 line-up had been blown all over the internet, there were still two unknown announcements. "According to well placed sources close to Microsoft, the publisher has two more 'big' Xbox 360 games to be revealed for its 2008 line-up." We're now certain that a new Halo title is going to be one of them. Speculate below.

Guitar Hero World Tour is going to let players make their own songs, so it only stands to reason that Rock Band 2 will as well, right? Right? Not according to Alex Rigopulos, the CEO and co-founder of Rock Band developer Harmonix.
Speaking to CNN, Rigopulos states that his company "wanted to do [song creation] right." He adds that Harmonix is "taking a radically different approach" to player-created tracks – presumably he means from the way Guitar Hero World Tour dev Neversoft is handling it – and will "take more time to do it." So, Rock Band 3 with a song creator it is then, right? Right?
