SEGA Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced the development of Stormrise™, an innovative real time strategy console title built specifically for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Stormrise marks The Creative Assembly’s first foray into developing a purpose built RTS title for console and is slated to ship in 2009.
Stormrise offers fans of the classic RTS genre an immersive and dramatic twist whilst challenging the conscience of the gamer. Experience the heat of the battlefield by leading your troops from the front line, instead of the traditional way of controlling the units from a detached view point. Stormrise also allows units to be commanded in the air, across rooftops, on the earth’s surface and even underground, this unique idea of “verticality” introduces multiple layers of gameplay that must be mastered for strategic advantage. The experience is heightened by a simple yet effective control system tailored specifically for consoles, which allows easy unit selection, rapid navigation and precise deployment.
“The Creative Assembly have proven their general leadership in developing RTS games through the award winning ‘Total War’ series on PC”, commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe. “However, Stormrise has been built from the ground up specifically for high def consoles to provide a more intense, frenetic style of game that, coupled with the all new control mechanic, will revolutionise the way RTS games are played.”
Set on a bleak and barren earth, devastated by a catastrophic event centuries ago, Stormrise sees the Echelon and the Sai battling to survive in a hostile and uninhabitable wasteland. Remnants of a superior technological people the Echelon survived the event through self-educed hibernation, whilst the Sai, a more tribal faction, still exist having learnt to adapt to their surroundings and the new environment. Having evolved in vastly different ways, the differences between the two factions have spurred much animosity and hatred between the two races, and the future of the planet is now hanging by a thread…
Stormrise is in development at The Creative Assembly’s Australia studio and is priming its forces for release in 2009. For more information please visit http://www.sega.com/stormrise

The Halo and Fable universes aren't nearly close enough for us to be expecting crossovers of the 'Master Chief and Chicken Chaser at the Olympic Games' scale, but it looks like a cool collaboration between the two Microsoft franchises has already happened.
The suspicious Fable II screenshot on the right of this page arrived our way this morning, from Lionhead fan site Loinhead.net, who no doubt has been contacted by the developer itself.
In the words of fan site 'Loinhead', the image comes "suspiciously close to the announcement of the Collector's Edition," which was detailed earlier this week.
In case you're going a bit blind from playing videogames too much (let's hope the Daily Mail doesn't read this), the screenshot shows a bloke in Master Chief Spartan armour playing the Lute. Not something the Chief regularly gets up to in the Halo series.
Lionhead told us it "can't comment" on the attached screenshot, but going from the hints we can assume that this cool little cameo is part of the "additional content" promised for the Collector's Edition of Fable II, which also comes with a bonus disk and figurine. Though that's a guess.
One screenshot

Rare told Eurogamer there is no truth to rumours there will be motion control functionality in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.
"While we are usually loathe to comment on rumour and speculation," the spokesperson said, "This is a red herring. The game does not feature motion control."
"It's good enough as it is, to be honest," he added.
The Internet got all excited after a video appeared on IGN. In it, Microsoft's Ken Lobb mentioned Kazooie's wrench is used for turning devices, adding, "You twist the controller around and it'll move different things in the game."
Turns out he was talking about twisting the left analog stick, not the whole controller. Ah.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts is out this Christmas.

Microsoft plans to release a new downloadable mode for Ninja Gaiden 2 on 25th July.
This is Mission Mode and it has 25 different mini-challenge stages to aim for high scores on. These will be a mixture of using different weapons or staying alive as long as possible as well as lots of other rules and regulations.
Your scores will be fed into leaderboards so your friends can see them and be coaxed into besting them. The Mission Mode challenge bundle will cost 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60).
Also, available tomorrow will be 30 videos explaining where all of the skulls in the action slasher are. Which is nice.

We've long been working under the assumption that Microsoft have conned Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents creators iNiS into developing a Singstar-killing karaoke game - called Lips - for the Xbox 360. An assumption that should next week be kicked up a notch. Variety's Ben Fritz is reporting that "Microsoft will be debuting a brand new music/singing game", which fits Lips' mission statement pretty snugly. Having been almost continually disappointed by SingStar PS3's tracklist, here's hoping iNiS can get this one right. And if not, can at least get it wrong but with Ouendan's homework-finishing, meteor-deflecting charm

A familiar face on these pages, primarily for his PSP work, PvP_LostKnight seems to have decided his Xbox 360 was lonely and cold, so he stripped off the case and strapped the thing to the back of his old HD LCD. PvP has never been heavy on the instructions, but he's got a few shots of the "Microvision 360" setup, plus a video of all the excitement (embedded after the break). We can only hope that insane fan noise is from some sort of warehouse cooling fans in the background, and isn't coming from this little heat sandwhich he concocted.

Analyst Todd Greenwald has backed current rumours doing the rounds that Microsoft will unveil a new motion sensitive controller for the Xbox 360 at E3.
He also said that it's expected Microsoft will slash USD 50 off the price of a Premium Xbox 360 this weekend, ahead of the annual industry showcase.
"The Xbox 360 price cut has essentially been confirmed by leaks from retailers at this point. We expect a USD 50 price cut on the Xbox 360 this weekend (from USD 349 to USD 299), prior to Microsoft's keynote on Monday morning," said the Signal Hill expert.
"We think the 360 has lost significant momentum to both the Wii and PS3, especially in Europe, and is in need of both a price cut and new features to bring in mainstream gamers beyond the Halo, Call of Duty, GTA crowd.
"Hopefully, Microsoft will have something else up its sleeve, such as a new motion-enabled controller (to better compete with the Wii)," he added.
He also expects Nintendo will announce something for the core gamers at E3 that may incorporate a new peripheral, similar to last year's introduction of the Balance Board for the Wii.
Sony is not expected to make an announcement regarding hardware prices, said Greenwald, as it continues to focus on profitability.

Prepare for a brain meltdown! Microsoft and Torpex Games announced today the release of Schizoid™ for Xbox LIVE® Arcade. Billed as “the most co-op game ever”, Schizoid creates a new category of action gaming where teamwork equals survival and players must protect each other from waves of glowing enemies. Available for download now, Schizoid is the first-ever Xbox LIVE Arcade title built using Microsoft’s XNA Game Studio.
“Torpex Games assembled an all-star team that truly believed in the vision of this singular game, and they ended up creating a unique and innovative game that embodies Xbox LIVE Arcade,” said Jeremy Wacksman, Microsoft’s Global Product Manager, Xbox LIVE. “We are very happy that Schizoid is the superb first result of our XNA Game Studio initiative on Xbox Live Arcade.”
Created by a team of veteran game developers, Schizoid features addictively simple gameplay. One or two players control one red ship and one blue ship, which are continually attacked by red and blue enemies. Each ship can destroy enemies of its own color, but will be destroyed by enemies of the other color. Quick reflexes help, but sharp teamwork is the difference between winning and losing.
“Schizoid is a landmark co-op gaming experience, unlike any other game. It’s a new experience that you’ve got to try,” says Bill Dugan, Torpex Games’ president. “And although it has been reported that Schizoid will ‘make your brain melt and ooze out of your ears’, I want to reassure gamers that in our testing we found no evidence of actual brain liquefaction.”
Two players can play cooperatively on the same Xbox 360™ console or over Xbox LIVE. In single-player mode, players can opt to control either one ship, while an AI “Wingman Bot” controls the other ship; or control both ships in the hardcore “Uberschizoid” game mode.

Did Ken Lobb, creative director at Microsoft Game Studios, just confirm motion control will be a factor in the newest Banjo Kazooie game? We're saying it's a "definite maybe." Others are saying yes, based on Lobb's comments in a Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts walk-through with developer commentary. What comments?
Specifically, Ken says "The primary function that Kazooie has in the game is she carries this wrench and the wrench is used for many different things. One of the things that the wrench is used for is to turn these devices. So you basically grab with the wrench and then you twist the controller around and it'll move different things in the game."

Capcom has announced that 1942: Joint Strike will be releasing soon. The classically inspired vertical arcade shooter1942: Joint Strike arrives on PSN 7/24 and on XBLA on 7/23.
1942: Joint Strike takes inspiration and influence from the ‘80s 194X series of World War II-themed vertical arcade shooters. The art, sound and gameplay of the new game take cues from the original 194X games, much like Wolf of the battlefeild: Commando 3 (check out our review). Gameplay will resemble the classic 2D style that gamers expect, but the game utilizes a fully 3D engine. Set in a World War II-themed locale, stages, vehicles and weapons have the look and feel of WWII with some stylistic differences.
The new 1942: Joint Strike features 2-player online cooperative play. Graphics and music have been similarly updated by Backbone Entertainment, the developers of this latest entry into the 194X series. There’s also a brand new score for the game created by Norihiko Hibino, an international composer well-known for his work creating music for the Metal Gear series.

Edit: Seems this method only works in the US, If you are in the UK ring MS on 0800 587 1102 to cancel
pibs has posted on our forums a method to easily cancel your Credit Cards off you Xbox live account, instead of having to ring their hot line.
This is currently the only way I know possible besides having to wait 45 minutes(including the 30 day cancellation time required) on the phone to remove your credit card info off the live service.
1. go to paypal and install the paypal one time use credit card plugin
2. go to http://www.billing.microsoft.com
3. generate a one time use credit card number from the paypal plugin and save. (you can even have it fill everything out for you)
4. log into paypal and remove the credit card number from your list of generated cards.
Simple. all in all takes like 5 min. a lot better than trying to find bogus cards because the address will still be tied to your real one.. this way it still get's validated by MS. When you remove the card from paypal all will be complete.
And remember, don't ever give MS your credit card info again
Why didn't MS create an easy cancel method?

It seems that Soul Calibur has been a big hit topping the XBLA chart and getting in to the top 10 of the most played Xbox games. With Rez HD and Ikaruga also big hits for XBLA it make you wonder, did all those Dreamcast/Sega fans move on to the Xbox? (I know I did )
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, continues to sell well, mostly likely driven by the Street Fighter HD beta (not unlike Crackdown: Halo beta of last year)
Xbox 360 Top Live Titles (based on UU’s)
1 Call of Duty 4
2 Halo 3
3 GTA IV
4 Guitar Hero III
5 Gears of War
6 Battlefield: Bad Company
7 Rock Band
8 Battlefield: Bad Company Demo
9 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2
10 Soul Calibur
Top Arcade Titles (Full Versions)
1 Soul Calibur
2 Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3
3 UNO
4 Ticket to Ride
5 Happy Tree Friends
6 DOOM
7 N+
8 Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting

10 Sonic The Hedgehog 2
The above arcade list is based on full versions purchased.
Next week, will Bungie day (and a new free map) help knock Halo 3 beat COD4 to the number one spot?

Visiting the official Gears of War 2 page right now sends you to a splash page with the above image. The dog tags and the image name have the same numerical combination: 033-116-117-126-071. When converted from Octal to ASCII you get "ESC Nov 9" (ESC as in the control character). Microsoft hasn't issued a press release, but it's hard to argue against November 9 being the official release date for Gears of War 2. We expect a confirmation by next week, if not before.

Microsoft has today responded to a number of misleading stories in the UK's mainstream press earlier this week regarding alleged 'red ring' problems with the Xbox 360 Elite console that have been experienced by numerous UK gamers.
Microsoft has now issued the following official response to these stories, which appeared in the Daily Mirror and the Daily Telegraph:
"Recent reports in the UK media regarding Xbox 360 contain inaccuracies and pure speculation, as well as news that is a year old.
"Prompted by what Microsoft viewed as an unacceptable number of repairs to Xbox 360 consoles, a year ago Microsoft announced an expansion of its Xbox 360 warranty. Effective 5 July, 2007, any original retail Xbox 360 customer who experiences a general hardware failure indicated by three flashing red lights is covered by a three year warranty from date of purchase, with all other issues remaining covered by the standard one-year warranty."

Below is a portion of an email being sent out to GameStop and Blockbuster buyers (logistical people handling what the store actually stocks). The email has the complete details on the 60gb hard drive and what will happen to the 20gb and 120gb hard drives. Email follows:
"With the introduction of the 60GB Pro console in July, we have research that suggests it is very important to have a 60GB stand alone Hard Drive to go along with it to allow the consumer a full range of choices and values. In late October/early November (exact date TBD but most likely last week in October or 1st week in November), we will ship the Xbox 360 60GB Hard Drive, tentatively called the "Xbox 360 60GB LIVE Starter Pack". This will be an excellent value price at and ERP of $99.99 with an 18% retail margin that contains:
* 60GB Hard Drive
* 3 Months of Xbox Live
* Xbox 360 Wired Headset
* Xbox 360 Ethernet Cable (same one that is included with Pro and Elite)
With the end of life of the 20GB Hard Drive and the price drop of the 120GB Hard Drive to $149.99 in September, this new 60GB hard drive will fit very well into our "Choice and Value" pillar and will fit nicely into our accessory line up. Exact SKU/UPC/Set up info will come soon and once we nail down the exact MSD, I will let you all know immediately."
