Activision has released a playable demo of Neversoft's Tony Hawk's Project 8 onto Xbox Live Marketplace.
Weighing in at 340MB, the demo takes place in the Concrete Park section of the game and gives you the chance to try out the new "Nail the Trick" thingy, which apparently involves using the analogue sticks in new and interesting ways.
There's also a "Filmer" goal, where you have to perform tricks for a cameraman, and "Spot Challenges", which involve performing certain tricks when you come across them.
Tony Hawk's Project 8 is due out on Xbox 360 in mid-November, with PS2, Xbox and PSP versions also due out around then and a PlayStation 3 version also in development.

New from Divineo UK
To Maximize the cooling effect on the Xbox 360,we design the 2nd fan (the XCM add on fan) to work with the XCM high speed air cooler, after adding this add on fan, the temperature of CPU and GPU of xbox 360 console can be decreased an additional of 3-5 Celsius.the XCM high speed air cooler with add on fan will be the best cooling system for the xbox 360.
Other external fan only exhausts the heat and make the loud noise, XCM high speed air cooler add on fan expels heat to the exhaust fan and the exhaust fan exhausts all the heat out of the console,it is the best efficient air cooler and quiet in working as well.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 hit the Xbox 360 this week to an overall review consensus that despite its updated visuals and career mode, the game largely remains the same. The title features six new courses, a revamped create a golfer mode, online tournaments with leaderboards, and 15 of the world's top players, including the obvious Tiger Woods, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Ian Poulter, Michael Campbell, and Annika Sorenstam. With a current average review score of 81%, here is what the critics are saying:
GameDaily 80% - "Delivers next-gen golf as it was intended, delivering realistic golf gameplay that challenges even the best players, the ability to create a golfer out of the blue, and a surprisingly robust online community loaded with events, tournaments, and ESPN Integration."
Games Radar 80% - "There are nits to pick, like having to hammer at buttons to bypass a predictable array of strolling animations, but Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is still slick as hell, and any golf enthusiast should be thrilled to bits with the depth of play to be had within."
1UP 75% - "It just doesn't feel that different the previous installments. But since those previous installments were good games, that's not necessarily a bad thing. But publishers should stop holding content back from their next-gen sports games, especially when more full-featured versions are available at a cheaper price."

It's been nineteen long months since Ubisoft delivered the last Splinter Cell installment. Sam Fisher is finally back, in Double Agent, premiering on Xbox 360 -- a variety of versions will soon follow, spanning PC, PlayStation 2 & 3, Wii, and Xbox.
The game is not as radical as the title would have you believe, unless you're a Spies vs. Mercs follower, in which case, Ubisoft has shuffled the multiplayer game around; and apparently, for the better:
Game Informer (90/100) "came for the single-player ... and stayed for the multiplayer."
Eurogamer (90/100) warns of tedious load times, but can't deny that "[Double Agent is] by far the best game in series to date."
GameDaily (80/100) is "a bit disappointed with the AI," but agrees with GI that "the addictive Mercs vs. Spies multiplayer mode makes up for the single player's shortcomings."

Via Spong
You may remember In2Games for Real World Golf, the golf game where you have to swing a pretend golf club in a realistic simulation of the actual game. SPOnG liked the technology when we first played it earlier last year because it gave a good indication of the possible directions in which proper 3D motion-sensing controlled gaming was likely to go.
Since that time of course, Nintendo has moved into the innovative/quirky motion-controlled gaming market with the soon-to-be-released Wii. So, it was with some interest that SPOnG heard murmurings that the In2Games guys were developing very similar cross-platform controller technology for PS3 and 360.
Is this a potential Wii killer?
According to the blurb on the press release SPOnG just received, this “unique wireless motion sensor system” – codenamed Fusion – is going to allow publishers to develop true cross-platform titles incorporating full motion sensing control.
Unlike the Wii-mote, the Fusion does not involve pointing a controller at a bar on the screen, instead it is based on a combination of patent-pending ultrasonic and RF technologies with three-axis accelerometers that track the precise absolute position and orientation in 3D space of almost any wireless accessory (think golf clubs, baseball bats, tennis racquets, bowling balls) - any small plastic controller item you can imagine really.
Can you see where this is going now? Yes, that’s right. In2Games goes on to claim that games designed specifically for the Wii can now be ported to PS3 and 360 – which is clearly an attractive proposition for publishers, making it far easier for them to recoup their original investment.
“It’s great that the world is waking up to motion sensor gaming,” says Elliott Myers, Managing Director, In2Games (pictured here). “Since we launched the world’s first 3D motion-sensing games back in 2004, we’ve been developing this system for the next generation. Our goal is to allow everyone to enjoy this wholly immersive way of playing games, regardless of which gaming platform they own. We’ve got the best technology, with incredible functionality allowing developers to produce exciting new games specifically for the system – taking advantage of its unique features - or to allow titles which use motion sensing to be published on any platform. It’s an exceptional proposition – for the industry and for consumers. We can’t wait to begin showing it off.”
SPOnG will be getting a hands-on with Fusion in the very near future and we will be catching up with In2Games Elliot Myers for a full, candid interview about his take on the future of motion-controlled gaming.
We spoke to sources at Nintendo in the UK yesterday about In2Games’ Fusion proposition, but they dismissed the technology, saying merely that, “they just won’t have the software support that Nintendo has, end of story.”
Is it really the end of the story? Let us know your thoughts in the forum.

October 20th, 2006, 17:04 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has released the "Advance Challenge Pack" for Lumines Live, just two days after the game's debut on Xbox Live Arcade.
Priced at 600 Microsoft points (GBP 5.10 / EUR 6.98), the pack adds 20 new skins to the 12 of the original game, along with leaderboards specific to the Advance mode.
Microsoft has also attempted to clarify it and Q Entertainment's plans for further downloadable content, after a lot of gamers got hot and bothered about the high price of the game (1200 points) and the number of modes that feature very little content.
In a release carried by the official Gamerscoreblog, the company said early 2007 would see the release of the Artist Pack (featuring music video skins like the Madonna "Sorry" video shown off at E3), playable under Challenge mode), the Mission/Puzzle Pack (adding 50 stages and three new skins each for Mission and Puzzle modes) and the Vs. CPU Pack (featuring 11 new opponents/skins).
And as for the controversy over things like there only being one playable Vs. CPU level in the base game, Microsoft's answer is simple: "If you enjoy that game mode, you can purchase the add-on pack to add new CPU challengers and skins - if you don't like it, you don't have to buy it."

Production stalls as filmmakers fail to "significantly reduce their deals". Microsoft already in talks with other distribution partners
According to a report in Variety, Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox have backed out of co-financing the Halo movie. Peter Jackson is still on board as exec producer though.
Apparently the filmmakers pulled out after Universal and Fox unsuccessfully tried to get the filmmakers and Microsoft to reduce their cut of the profits.
Universal and Fox made the pay cut demand with a deadline of October 15, which was also the same day MS stood to bag almost $5 million upfront as well as nabbing 10 percent of the gross for rights to the game and a script by Alex Garland.
"The only budget the filmmakers ever spoke about was $145 million, less the 12.5 percent rebate that you get from shooting in New Zealand, which would put it at about $128 million," said Ken Kamins, spokesman for the movie's executive producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh.
He continued, "What happened was this: Universal, on behalf of both studios, asked for a meeting with the filmmakers just prior to the due date of a significant payment. Basically, they said that in order to move forward with the film, the filmmakers had to significantly reduce their deals. They waited until the last minute to have this conversation. Peter and Fran, after speaking with their producing partners and with Microsoft and Bungie, respectfully declined."
Microsoft isn't hanging around though. It's already in talks with other distribution partners as early work on the film continues.

Microsoft Taiwan on October 18 announced a discounted price of NT$13,980 (US$422) for a package that includes an Xbox 360 console, two Xbox wireless controllers and the game "Dead or Alive 4," 11.3% lower than the original total market price of NT$15,760. The first time Microsoft Taiwan has offered such a package, the offer is in preparation for the Christmas season and is limited to only 5,000 sets, according to the company.
Microsoft will launch more than 100 Xbox 360 games by the end of this year, according to senior sales manager Grace Chou for the Entertainment & Device Division of Microsoft Taiwan. Of the new games, Gears of War, Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 and Blue Dragon will be launched on November 12, the end of November and December 7, respectively, and are immediately available for order at a discount price of NT$1,390 each, Chou noted. Microsoft Taiwan will hold an X06 Taiwan game event in Taipei on November 3-5, offering nearly 30 Xbox 360 games for play, Chou added.

October 19th, 2006, 18:33 Posted By: wraggster
There are 48 Xbox 360 exclusives with the console’s one year head start. 23 of the exclusives are published by Microsoft Game Studios, the remaining games are spread over fifteen different companies. Fourteen of those titles are currently on the market, which means the bulk of the games are still in development. Why is the number so low? Some of the popular titles on the X360 like Call of Duty 2 are also PC games due to the ease of releasing games on multiple platforms. Even though the Xbox 360 doesn’t have exclusivity on franchise games like the Godfather and NBA Live 07, the 360 versions typically look better than their current generation counterparts.
Meanwhile Sony only has eighteen titles developed internally and 35 titles exclusive to the Playstation 3. They lost out on exclusivity to Assassin’s Creed, BioShock and the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Losing Grand Theft Auto is a dent in Sony’s line up, but Sony managed to snag console exclusivity of The Elder Scrolls series and F.E.A.R. away from Microsoft. While Sony was once the reigning champion of third party support, but as of now only nine companies are developing exclusive titles for the Playstation 3 and one of those companies is technically a division, Sony Online Entertainment. Speaking of Sony Online Entertainment they are making an online game based on the DC Universe and Microsoft is making an online game based on the Marvel Universe. Competition much?

October 19th, 2006, 17:55 Posted By: wraggster
Lumines creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi has defended the decision to offer a lot of the Xbox Live Arcade version's content as downloadable extras rather than including them in the full game.
Lumines Live launched yesterday, and is the joint most expensive game on the service at 1200 Microsoft points (GBP 10.20 / EUR 13.96), but it's the manner in which Q Entertainment asks users for extra investment to customise the game that's drawn early criticism.
An "Advance Pack" (as-yet unreleased) will cost 600 Microsoft points (GBP 5.10 / EUR 6.98) while other game modes feature only a handful of levels, and prompt the gamer to watch out for further downloadable add-ons in future.
Mizuguchi told IGN that one reason for the download/pricing strategy was technical ("We have to include everything in 50MB") but that the other reason was the desire to let people customise Lumines. "We want people to look at Lumines and, depending on the artist, or the season, or the music, we want to give them different reasons to consider buying the game," he explained.
Future updates may add additional features as well as skins (which add new music and backgrounds, and also vary gameplay conditions), he said. "Maybe there will be new ways that we erase the blocks in the future. Maybe we add different shapes or forms or colors; right now there are no limits or boundaries. Maybe users might give us new ideas. We're hoping to hear from users what they would like to see in future updates, in fact. They will help guide us to create new updates," he added.
The veteran designer also said that it might be possible in future to support more than two people in the game's online multiplayer mode. "Maybe in the future four players will work," he told IGN. "We even tested with six to eight players, and we didn't accomplish the ideal scenario with that many players, so at this point we just aren't satisfied with what we came up with. So for now it's a two-player game."

If you've been hankerin' for a bit more room to stash pr0n Xbox Live downloads and other various medias on your 360, and you're not so keen on squeezing in a backup solution or dealing with a frumpy external drive, it looks like you're in luck. Microsoft just announced a 100GB hard drive for the Xbox 360 at their little X06 shindig in Korea, and the drive should be making its way to shelves -- at least in Korea -- by March of '07. There's no info on price yet, or really much info at all, but when has a PowerPoint slide full of Korean characters and lame-fonted "100 GB" overlays ever steered you wrong?

Blue Dragon 360 bundles sell out after first day of pre-orders
Ladies and gentlemen, you might want to sit down; the Xbox 360 has sold out In Japan. Well, the special-edition Blue Dragon bundles have, anyway.
Pre-orders began yesterday for the SE bundle, of which there are 10,000 units, and it miraculously managed to sell out in Japan almost immediately, with the additional 90,000 'standard' bundles reportedly selling fast.
According to 1up.com, one major online retailer managed to sell out of their SE allotment in five minutes, with others managing to last most of the day.
The special-edition bundle contains an Xbox 360 core system with Blue Dragon, along with an original table calendar, Blue Dragon faceplate illustrated by game artist Akira Toriyama and a set of five miniature character figures. All of this for the bargain price of 29,800 yen (134 JPN).
Considering the huge amount of Toriyama fans in the Far East and severe shortages of the PS3, the pre-order sell out is perhaps not so surprising. Still, it's a much-needed boost for Microsoft in Japan, where most weeks it has been struggling to shift even 1,000 units of its next-gen console.
Is MS about to get the break its been praying for in the world's gaming capital? Watch this space

Xbox Live beta of Sega's online adventure game extended to Saturday
Good news if, like us, you're currently hopelessly addicted to the Xbox Live beta of Sega's Phantasy Star Universe; you now have until Saturday 21st to grind your character to oblivion.
According to an announcement on the official Japanese PSU website, the beta will now run until 4pm on the 21st in Japan (about 7am UK time) and considering that Japan is sharing the same servers as the US and us here in Europe, we can assume that we'll have the extra few days to play as well.
Unfortunately the beta has already been taken off of Xbox Live Marketplace, so if you haven't downloaded it yet you're out of luck.
PSU is out in the US next week, with the European release following on November 24. Happy adventuring.

New multiplayer trailers stealth in, in anticipation of the latest Splinter Cell game's imminent release
Part of the Splinter Cell: Double Agent experience will involve returning to the murky world of Spies versus Mercs confrontations in multiplayer. Double Agent throws a few tweaks into the mix to evolve the gameplay - two new trailers show Mercs and Spies in operation.
Double Agent on Xbox 360 releases tomorrow, with PS2, Xbox and GameCube versions out on October 27. The PC iteration brings up the rear on November 3. We'll have a full review hitting these pages shortly.

The Xbox 360 Games Tour kicks off in Manchester between 20th and 24th October at the Trafford Centre, although Gears of War will not be available for those dates.
After that, the tour heads to Newcastle, where it will occupy the Metro Centre between 26th and 29th October, before it spends three days at The Bullring in Birmingham on 3rd, 4th and 5th November.
From there it's up to Sheffield for the Meadowhall showing on 11th and 12th November, before it all gets carted to the West Quays in Southampton on 25th and 26th November. The tour will then conclude at Lakeside in London on 2nd and 3rd December.

Controversial developer Running With Scissors has announced that the third instalment in its Postal series of shooters, due out on PC and Xbox 360 in 2008, will use Valve's Source Engine.
Used most notably for Half-Life 2 and its expansions, the Source Engine is now available for Xbox 360 developers to base their games on.
RWS also said this week that the game would be produced in conjunction with developer/publisher Akella.
"We've always maintained since publishing the original Postal that the game is only as violent as the player wants it to be," said RWS CEO Vince Desi, getting in early with the defensive sound bites, "and we're committed to expanding this unique form of gameplay in this next addition to the ongoing storyline."
Postal III will apparently include motion-captured performances by various celebrities, including film stars and Playboy Playmates, and will continue to star the nameless "Postal Dude" in a story that continues to focus on "social satire and politically incorrect virtual violence".
Previous references to the game called it "Postal III: Catharsis", although there's no sign of that subtitle in the latest announcement.
It's also worth noting that the game will arrive some time after the Postal film which German film-maker Uwe Boll is directing. The Postal film should take to the silver screen (or, possibly, go direct to video) sometime next year.
