Burger King plans to bundle one of three Xbox games with its Value Meals in the US this November - although sadly they will not be as cheap as chips.
Instead you'll pay US$ 3.99 for one of Pocketbike Racer, Big Bumpin' and Sneak King, each of which offers a few levels of basic arcade-style gameplay on either Xbox or 360. There won't be any unlockable achievements though.
Developed by Blitz Games, each game draws upon various Burger King "characters", although we're not sure anyone cares.
You can read more about the games, and even glance at a few screenshots, by checking out the media alert on Gamerscoreblog.
The UK Burger King website doesn't mention the possibility of the promotion being extended here, but it does point out that you can get one of three Batman gadgets with your Value Meal. MUUUUUUUUM!

3D Realms has responded to gamers petitioning it to release Duke Nukem 3D on Xbox Live Arcade by claiming Microsoft is "fairly picky" about titles it allows on the service.
"You'd be surprised what they've turned down," webmaster Joe Siegler said on the 3DR forum. "Don't just assume MS will want it just because you like it, and it's popular. Hate to sound defeatist, but it's not as easy as 'send it to Microsoft and get it on there'. It's a rather complicated procedure, and MS is fairly picky about what goes on there."
"As I said above, we've already talked about it ourselves. I talked about this yesterday with George [Broussard], he's all up for the idea, but we don't have the time to do the port ourselves, plus there's the issue of whether Microsoft would really want it," he continued.
"Don't just assume they would, there's a big submissions procedure to go through. Plus their release schedule is booked solid for quite awhile now, even if we delivered it to them today, I would imagine it wouldn't come out for a while anyway."
The petition arose after id Software's Doom, another classic PC first-person shooter, appeared on Xbox Live Arcade during X06 last week.

Nes6502 released a new version of ZsnexBox, a port of the Zsnes Super Nintendo emulator to Xbox
What's new
* Added Xbox Lightgun support for Super Scope games. The buttons are mapped to the lightgun A (the trigger) and B Buttons.
* Added lightgun support without having to flash the screen in white. So when you fire the lightgun, there will be no (distracting in my opinion) screen flash. I don't think the Super Scope makes this flash on a real SNES, so this way should be more accurate.
* Added Lightgun calibration for 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i. The calibration settings are saved to the Xbox hard drive in the TDATA folder. On my Xbox it is the E:\TDATA\00000000 folder. I haven't tested the lightgun in HD modes, but it should work fine. If not, please post what happens, and I will look into fixing it.
* Added support for the lightgun in any of the 4 Xbox controller ports.
* Added option to use the crosshair with the lightgun.
* Added option to enable/disable force feedback for the lightgun. This is connected to the trigger.
* Added options to control the Lightgun rumble strength and time
* Added support for 10x11 pixel aspect ratio for the GUI and the emulation
* Added a loading screen for switching skins.

Good news for fans of the N64 originals - a top Microsoft exec has told Eurogamer that the original team responsible for Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie is working on the new 360 instalment announced at last week's X06.
Rare's platforming double act took the Nintendo console by storm in the '90s. And while the series' return has been anticipated for some time, Microsoft Game Studios general manager Phil Spencer wanted to reassure gamers that Banjo's 360 debut is very much in the right hands.
He revealed: "Team sizes are so different now and we have more animators now than the full Banjo 1 team, but the key core team is really the same."
Spencer was also keen to play down suggestions that Banjo-Kazooie 360 is being created for younger gamers, insisting: "Certain people look at the bear and the bird and think it's a kids' game. What we think is that Banjo as an intellectual property has the ability to span audiences.
"For us in the next Banjo game it was about evolving the gameplay while keeping the approachability of the characters, but the depth of the gameplay is very important. This can't turn into some minigame-based paper game. It has to be something that has a ton of substance."
Given the Fort Knox-style levels of secrecy at the Twycross-based developer, specifics are predictably thin on the ground at this stage, but Spencer had a few more vague snippets for us.
"I think where we are with that game right now is something that is extremely innovative," he continued. "We're not talking about the game idea yet, but what you'll see coming from Banjo is a game that has even more depth than Banjo-Kazooie or Banjo-Tooie, more variability, more gameplay - but keeps the face that is Banjo on the game to make it more approachable.
"It'll be familiar to fans of the originals in terms of style, absolutely, and in terms of setting, story and characters. In terms of it being another platformer? I think that genres evolve, and that's what we're doing with this game. So you might call it something else when it comes out - but it's the same team and it's staying true to that team and what it believes in."
It's worth noting that this will also be $375 million Microsoft studio Rare's first 360 game that actually originated on the platform. Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero were first GameCube then Xbox 1 games, while Viva Pinata started out on Xbox 1 and came to 360 via mobile devices.
"Banjo has never seen another platform," Spencer confirmed. "The original gameplay ideas were on this box [Xbox 360] and that's where they'll ship." But it looks like we'll have a bit of a wait on our hands before we learn exactly what these "original gameplay ideas" are, sadly.
Spencer added: "There's some very good gameplay in the game, but we want to show it in a way that creates the excitement that it should. We're probably a little ways away - not too far - but a little ways away from showing it in all its glory. But the gameplay is already solid."

Some of the comments below indicate that the details of Zune sharing aren't completely clear. Let me walk through the Zune does and Zune doesn'ts...
Zunes have wireless built in. Zunes can thus set up "ad-hoc" (Zune to Zune) connections to one another. This enables the following scenarios:
You can search for nearby Zune owners to interact with.
You can send them a song, album, etc... for a 3-day/3-play trial listen. Songs come over with metadata and album art (neat). After the 3 days or 3 plays are up, the song gets deleted from the Zune on the next sync, but the info on the song stays in a "journal" on your PC for later purchase or acquisition.
You can send them photos for unlimited viewing (and these can sync back onto the recipient's PC).
The wireless happens to be wifi (802.11 b/g) but Zunes will not (at launch) connect to the internet via your home base station network. Zunes can not download songs over the air from the internet service. Zunes cannot act as telephones or personal teleporters.
Caution: Zune may suddenly accelerate to dangerous speeds. Zune Contains a liquid core, which, if exposed due to rupture, should not be touched, inhaled, or looked at. Do not use Zune on concrete. Discontinue use of Zune if any of the following occurs: Itching, Vertigo, Dizziness, Tingling in extremities, Loss of balance or coordination, Slurred speech, Temporary blindness, Profuse sweating, or Heart palpitations.

2K Games has released the latest trailer of Irrational Games'chilling shooter Bioshock, and it's well worth a watch if you're either a fan of System Shock or simply love having the pants scared off you.
The video was originally shown at last week's X06 show in Barcelona, where - when we weren't ogling at the lovely Assassin's Creed producer (who is a female, by the way) - we were impressed by its spooky atmosphere and pretty water effects. To see the first-person diver-scuffling for yourself, click on over to our video player on the right.
Bioshock - all going well - will be out on Xbox 360 and PC in 2007.

After backpacking across the office, we've finally managed to get the CVG capture machine back in operation, and what better way to celebrate than with some fresh 360 screens of Double Agent?
The screenshots show off the first mission in the game which sends you trekking to snowy Iceland where some Middle Eastern-types are prepping a gigantic missile for lift-off - and naturally Fisher has to stop it.

It's no secret Microsoft is preparing an Apple / iPod rival but details on the MS player are now beginning to filter through. A Microsoft spokesperson told Next-Gen.biz: "You can plug your Zune device into your Xbox 360 to stream music, pictures, and video, via USB cable, to enjoy all your Zune content on the TV in your living room."
The statement added: "Additionally, you can connect your Windows PC to your Xbox 360 using Windows Media connect to stream your Zune content that way as well." No further details were offered about the possibility of transferring Xbox Live Marketplace content from the Xbox 360 to Zune.
Zune's online music store will also accept Microsoft Points in the same way 360 gamers use them to buy downloads over Xbox Live Marketplace.

Veteran developer Rare has been talking-up its bizarre Xbox 360 garden game, Viva Piñata, in an interview hitting these pages later today.
During our chat, lead designer Gregg Mayles and fellow design bod Justin Cook defended Rare's cutesy game saying it's not just one for the kids. "I like to think we've made a game that anybody can play," said Cook. "We wanted children to play it so obviously some of the design decisions we made reflect that... A lot of the press you see about games over the last 12 months has been about how nasty and evil games are, so this is a kind of reaction to that."
He continued: "...we've also had a really positive response from women. When we demoed the game at E3, we probably got the highest ratio of women-to-men to come and watch it. It's just something fresh and new and something they can relate to. Well... I don't exactly know that's the case!"
In the interview, the Piñata-duo also touched on their rejected creature designs, breeding mini-games and that other game-TV tie-in, Pokémon.

New gameplay footage from Activision's forthcoming FPS sequel Call of Duty 3 has topped trenches and sniped us right between the eyes this morning. Revealing intense battles and giving us a sneak glimpse of the likes of the new destructible cover element that's been introduced for the follow-up, the trailer's most definitively a must-see for fans of the series.
Call of Duty 3 covers the brutal Normandy Breakout campaign of WWII, which saw Allied forces advancing in-land across French soil after the D-Day landings. Players will slip on combat boots as US, British, Canadian and Polish troopers and assault the Nazi war machine with hell and bullets.

Microsoft's portable media player, Zune, will accept Microsoft Points as currency in exchange for music downloads.
Already a system in use for transactions via Xbox Live Marketplace on the 360, users will be able to purchase songs at a price of 79 points per track, or around US $0.99 (EUR 0.77).
Although speculation regarding interconnectivity between the Xbox 360 and Zune has been rife, this is the first time that Microsoft has revealed a system unique to the hardware.
As with a majority of MP3 players, the Zune is able to connect with the Xbox 360 to play music and other media, or via a Media Centre PC streaming content to the console.
Zune will go on sale in North America on November 14th, priced US $249.99 (EUR 197).

We're kind of surprised it took this long to get the two of 'em side by side, but here they are. The Zune is, of course larger, but it's kinda weird how much more exaggerated those size differences are when you're really eyeing the extremely-curved corners of the iPod. Ok, we're done, go ahead, get it all out.

Via Gamedaily
There's no doubt that Microsoft has made huge strides with their Xbox Live service. Initially introduced on the Xbox console for online play, the service has since evolved on the Xbox 360 as a full-blown community page. Downloadable demos are available around the clock, as well as new videos, features, and Xbox Live Arcade titles. In fact, today's release of Doom should awaken the hardcore gaming community, having players "frag" each other in several deathmatches. And this is just the beginning, as several titles, including original games such as Castle Crashers and classics like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, are making the rounds.
Pros: Microsoft has nailed down the online service of Xbox Live perfectly. It has grown well, allowing users to put together their own pages and download whatever they choose, be it videos, demos, or actual games. The online play works fast and smoothly, with only the occasional hitch with connection coming around. There's also some games that take this community one step further with extra interaction, like Project Gotham Racing 3's televised races. And the fact there are two types of packages to choose from- Silver and Gold- should attract all kinds of gamers, rich or poor.
Cons: This "artist of the month" feature doesn't really do much for the service. Yes, Jessica Simpson is hot. A blind man could see that. But I don't get on the XBLA to download her latest video, I get on there to play games. Some of this content is pretty much unnecessary. Also, the pricing structure of the Xbox Live point system may be a bit much for some. 1600 points for $20? This could be steep, especially for those who dropped half of those points on a decade-old game such as Doom. And lastly, Microsoft still charges a $50 yearly fee for Gold online support for Xbox Live. This is nothing new, but in the face of the "free" competition, it's a pain in the wallet.
Overall prognosis: Even though some of the features are a little bland and the price a bit high for some, Xbox Live Arcade still sets the standard for what online gaming should be. It has a vast library of titles to choose from right now, and several more coming that look to be outstanding. The online play is smooth and efficient, and future games (like Halo 3) should support it strongly.

First it was $399. Then it was $299. Now, Microsoft is once more cutting the price tag on its upcoming Zune music player, to $249. That matches the recently discount for a similar 30GB-capacity Apple iPod. At that price, writes JupiterResearch analyst David Gartenberg, there's no way Microsoft is making money, since it won't have the same volume discounts on hard drives and other components Apple enjoys, not to mention the added cost of the Zune's Wi-Fi connection.
Is Microsoft taking a page from the Xbox strategy with Zune? On the surface, yes. But in the videogame business, Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo take losses on game consoles but make money by charging software developers licensing fees. The more ubiquitous the hardware is, the more money they make from games. In digital media, that business model doesn't work. Apple breaks even or makes a modest profit, at best, on the iTunes Music Store in order to drive profitable iPod sales. Microsoft could easily find itself losing money on Zune hardware and losing money on music sales. All of which should leave shareholders howling for the head of whoever's crunching the numbers in Redmond.

from the site:
The XboxMediaCenter 2.0.0 point-release source code has now been set in our CVS. We consider that the current code in the XBMC CVS is as stable as a point-release should be. All XBMC users are highly encouraged to upgrade to this stable Xbox Media Center 2.0.0 point-release. Remember, the XBMC source code needs to be compiled with the XDK, and requires a modded Xbox to run. Our thanks goes out to everyone who has tested, reported bugs, and helped fix them in order to make this release possible.
There are many new features and functions that have been introduced since the 1.1.0 point-release, that we cannot list them all here. A few that are especially worth mentioning are; the enhanced GUI/skin-engine, the Project Mayhem III skin, DVD-Video menu/navigation support (with ISO/IMG image parsing), RAR/ZIP archive parsing, a new audio/music-player (PAPlayer) with crossfade, gapless playback and ReplayGain support, Karaoke CDG-file display, Xored Trainer Engine (gaming-cheats), XLink Kai (online-gaming) front-end, iTunes 6.x DAAP and UPnP-clients, and two surprise features; read-only support for FAT12/16/32 formatted USB Mass Storage Devices up to 4GB in size, and a brand new "skinnable" 3D visualizer.
For a full list of all features/functions and codecs/formats supported by XBMC please visit the "XBMC Features and Supported Formats/Codecs" page in our new online manual.

Nintendo is basing its entire console around it and Sony is ditching rumble in favour of it, but is Microsoft interested in joining the motion/tilt-sensing party? That was the question put to Phil Spencer, one of Microsoft Game Studios' general managers, at an X06 round-table Q&A session in Barcelona yesterday.
"Our input devices or new hardware will come through our innovative ideas on games. We won't formulate a piece of hardware that we want someone to buy and then figure out how we can build a game to compel them to buy it," Spencer explained.
The Microsoft man certainly wasn't ruling out the possibility of alternative ways to play games on 360 in the future, though. He continued by telling the assembled journalists that "if an idea broke the boundaries of the hardware," and if the game idea was strong enough, then it "might lead to a new input device".
He also admitted that the kinetic powered controllers from Nintendo and Sony would be "some of the things we'd watch to see what compelling games come from the new input devices. What are the new gaming paradigms, if any, that might be delivered?" Spencer himself obviously has doubts: "I don't think the promise of a new input device means a new kind of game."
And talking about Nintendo's focus being almost entirely on its motion-sensing technology, Spencer commented that, "when you have an input device that is basically your only thing to talk about... that's what you talk about".
So, while Microsoft might not be convinced right now that kinetic-based technology will have a truly beneficial impact on gaming, it is keeping an open mind and will, no doubt, be watching the public's reaction to Wii with interest.

It looks like Xbox 360 gamers won't be rocking around the Christmas tree this year.
A RedOctane representative told GameSpot that the recently announced Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 will be released sometime in 2007, significantly trailing the PlayStation 2 version of the game, scheduled to hit retail this November.
The rep also addressed some speculation about the new X-Plorer guitar controller that will be released with the game. At Microsoft's X06 event in Barcelona, Spain, Activision showed the game off with a prototype X-Plorer, which was connected to the 360 with a wire. However, representatives there wouldn't confirm whether or not the final hardware would also be wired.
Today, GameSpot received confirmation from the RedOctane spokesperson that the final X-Plorer guitar will also be wired, dashing gamers' hopes of re-creating Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic's dramatic finish to the band's 1992 MTV Music Video Awards performance.
The Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II will contain all the same content of the PlayStation 2, as well as exclusive extra songs that will be made available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace. No pricing information has yet been released for the game.

I guarantee that Xbox 360 games will look better than PS3. Xbox 360 is easy to develop on and programmers have experience already. We will keep ahead of the curve for two to three years
I am planning on PlayStation 3 being launched in March, but with how many consoles? If Japan becomes a succes, will Sony ship consoles to Europe?
It is time to deliver on all the plans. Today's line-up is great, before Christmas it will be amazing, and after Christmas it will be unbeatable
