A representative of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the company tasked with fabricating the chips being used in Microsoft's next Xbox console, has told the media that the development of the console is proceeding to plan.[br][br]Speaking at a press conference, senior vice president Kenneth Kin said that the firm's manufacturing plans for Xbox 2 chips is "proceeding according to plan," scotching recent murmuring about a possible further delay to Microsoft's schedule for the system.[br][br]TSMC has been tapped to develop the core chipsets for the Xbox 2 platform, including ATI's GPU chip, which the graphics company said was nearing the end of its development stage earlier this month.[br][br]It's believed that Microsoft is planning to launch the Xbox 2 in late 2005, which would give it a significant headstart over its rivals, as neither Sony nor Nintendo is expected to have a new home console ready until 2006.[br][br]Xbox 2 - which is reportedly codenamed Xenon in the development community - will feature multiple IBM Power5 processors, an SIS motherboard chipset and the aforementioned ATI graphics unit. Early development kits for the hardware have already been sent to selected developers, based on Apple PowerMac G5 units running a custom version of the Windows NT kernel.

I posted this on another part of the forum.
I appreciate the responces. Especially the diabetic utils page. And I had never heard of funkypages... but that was wack! . I guess life isnt as horrible as it seems, I mean my dreamcast still works! There is hope for diabetes being cured in the near future... and depending on if someone in the US gets the hell out of office then it may happen within the next 4 years! (but i doubt that). I have been doing alot of xbox linux related things. I noticed that SLAX, which is a slakware based boot cd can boot from a dos executable. I think I will try to get one of the x86 emulators for xbox to try to boot it... only problem is I dont think it will support the hardware. I dont know how to customize linux so i cant put that stuff in myself, it was just a thought. I dont think any current xbox linux distro has tried using fluxbox as a graphical interface. I am not sure, but i think fluxbox uses about the same mem as xfce, but has more functionality, which is cool! I wish I understood this a little better... If your interested in this you can take a look at
for slax www.slax.linux-live.org/
for an x86 emu - the usual irc channels
for more info on xbox linux www.xbox-linux.org/
for more info on xbox hacking www.xbox-scene.com/
If you know of a noob friendly linux guide, please let me know. this is about the only thing that keeps me happy right now.

The Xbox 2 rumour mill has turned over once again, after a Silicon Valley start-up boasted that a new piece of software emulation technology would allow the next-generation console to play original Xbox games.[br][br]QuickTransit, a piece of software originally developed by a computer science professor at Manchester University in the UK, allows the "transparent" emulation of software across different hardware platforms, its makers claim.[br][br]Revealing the software to the world, Transitive Corp demonstrated the system running Linux software (presumably compiled on different processor architecture) on Windows PCs and Apple Macintosh systems at performance which, the company says, is indistinguishable from native platform performance.[br][br]The comment that has sparked interest in the games industry, however, is a statement from Transitive CEO Bob Wiederhold, who said that the QuickTransit software will allow the next-generation Xbox to run software designed for the current console.[br][br]It's not clear whether this is meant to mean that Transitive is actually working with Microsoft on Xenon emulation technology, but a number of factors make this seem like an unlikely scenario.[br][br]For a start, the Wired article in which Wiederhold's claim appeared went on to say that Transitive has six customers, all of whom are as yet unnamed and all of whom are PC manufacturers, with no mention of any Microsoft relationship.[br][br]Besides, what works for a PC or server environment in terms of emulation isn't necessarily the same thing that will work for a console - which has limited memory, a key constraint on the QuickTransit system, which interprets recognised blocks of code by replacing them with functionally identical blocks for the native processor.[br][br]Regardless of how fast QuickTransit's code is, it will also still face major issues in translating the graphics functions of existing Xbox titles, which are written for an NVIDIA chip, into functions on Xbox 2, which will use an ATI chip - not just technical issues, but potentially legal issues as well. [br][br]Sources close to NVIDIA have previously hinted that they do not believe that Xbox 2 can play Xbox games without violating NVIDIA intellectual property rights, and that they may take legal action if the Xbox 2 does boast this functionality.[br][br]In face of this, it would appear much more likely that Wiederhold simply chose the Xbox and Xbox 2 scenario as an example of one problem which would be made easier to solve using the technology being marketed by his company.[br][br]However, the games industry at large is likely to keep a close eye on developments at Transitive in future - as any technology which allows new hardware to cheaply emulate older consoles and platforms would be welcomed by many companies in the market.

Caustik has released a new version of his Xbox Emulator for windows and this news:[br][br] Wow it has been a long time since an update... I haven't had much time to work on Cxbx lately, but one of these days.. in the meantime, score yourself free goodies if you havent already: ipod + TV or Monitor Not to sound cliche, but i dont usually go for that sort of thing but this one apparently works, as has been proven by lots of people.[br][br]I plan on releasing a new project to the open source world soon (check out Work-in-Progress demos over here). It will be available sometime soon in source code, screensaver, executable, winamp plugin, etc.[br][br]Oh, and also a *BETA* build because alot of people have been complaining (dont BUG me about bugs or totally random crashes or whatever!) - Cxbx 0.8.0-Pre2 - Yes, it plays Turok, and yes, there is a slightly new GUI.[br] [br][br]Download the new release and view the new screenshot Here

Nurve Networks LLC unveils what is undoubtedly the most unexpected kind of new video game system: one that users will learn how to design, program and build themselves.[br][br]Video games generate billions of dollars in revenue each year and game programming books occupy rows of bookstore shelf space. Video game development has made its way into college curriculums and entire game programming universities have emerged. But, video games run on advanced hardware, the design of which is a black art that few understand.[br][br]For over a decade, books by Computer Scientist and best-selling game development author Andre' LaMothe (his latest title "Tricks of the 3D Game Programming Gurus") have taught generations of game developers to create today's cutting-edge video games. Now, his focus is changing from video game software to video game hardware with the unveiling of the XGameStation Micro Edition, a revolutionary new video game system that offers users what no PlayStation or XBOX can - knowledge. While the other systems duke it out in a never-ending battle of polygon counts and shader passes, the XGameStation is less about upgrading its own hardware and more about upgrading your grey matter.[br][br]The XGameStation Micro Edition (XGS ME) is a complete game development kit inspired by classic systems such as the Atari 2600, 800, Apple II, C64 and Nintendo Entertainment System. The XGS kit includes a fully-assembled XGS unit with all necessary cables and accessories, a full-length eBook written by Andre LaMothe on the design and programming of the XGS along with all the software necessary to create your own games, demos, and experiments. The book introduces the reader to analog/digital engineering, then gradually explores the entire design of the XGS's hardware and software.[br][br]Armed with a complete understanding of how the system was built and operates, users then create their own games or play games made by their peers. The online community at http://www.xgamestation.com completes the system's appeal, providing a place for XGameStation developers to share ideas, software and even discuss hardware modifications. As the holy wars continue over which console is better, XGameStation unites gamers, hobbyists and students in a single community where the goal is not to prove who has the best specs, but to work together for a common goal of learning, understanding and pushing the system's limits.[br][br]The system plugs into any NTSC/PAL TV and supports vintage Atari 2600 controllers as well as a PS/2 keyboard. XGameStation Micro Edition games and applications are stored on internal processor Flash, allowing users to develop and download their games from a PC using the accompanying tools.[br][br]In short, by empowering hobbyists and game developers with a game platform they can truly call their own, the XGameStation Micro Edition is reviving the magic of programming and hardware hacking for systems like the Apple II, Atari 800 and Commodore 64. For the first time in history, the engineers of tomorrow's cutting edge video game systems will learn and build their skills using one from today.[br][br]The official website for the XGameStation is http://www.xgamestation.com/ there you will find Media, Downloads, Demos, and more information on purchasing the XGS Micro Edition.

Hi there,
I'm sick to the back teeth of X-S boards they seem to have become a haven for Immature off topic rubbish, Which is a pity as X-S boards used to be so helpful. So am moving boards once and for all.
This seam’s to be the right choice as I remember waggster from way back at Dcemulation.com and Consolevision.com. Great job with the site and for keeping the DC scene alive mate.
It also has many boards other boards that interest me in the world of emulation.
Just some Xbox news that has escaped the masses. Xport has finally updated his website after 6 months. Its had a complete over hall with Plenty of news and WIP reports.

I've been told that everything that xport ports he makes open source but the trick is where can I find it? I know he uses the XDK to port this source so I dont know where he'd host his code.
I'm really looking for the code to NeoGenesis because I want to add the menu system to Gen+ DC as NeoGenesis is one of the best menu's have ever seen in my life.

News of an unoficial version of the Mame emulator for the Xbox by an anonymous person (spooky eh) heres whats new:[br][br] The main changes I've made are:[br]- Calibration screen with instructions, and calibration stored per port and[br]lightgun[br]- Improved lightgun in games: It will not default to the center of the screen[br]if not "seen"; tweaked the lightgun "processing" so it will hit almost every[br]time(even when pointed in a black area), and will reload if you shoot offscreen[br](at least on those games that have support for it by the mame core)[br]- Multiple lightgun support[br]- Tweaks for compatibility (there where some Joytech Sharp Shooters that had[br]the white and black buttons half-pressed internally, had to increase threshold[br]for button pressing) [br][br]More information on older releases Here
