Publisher EA has confirmed that it will once again use the likeness of Tiger Woods in the next instalment of its PGA Tour Golf series.
The former world No.1 has been a troubled figure since his much publicised media blowout in late 2009. Back then he was ranked as No.1 in the world. As of today he sits at 55th.
Despite sticking by the star in the aftermath of the vents, the publisher has since admitted that it can see a future beyond Woods. Indeed, some versions of last year’s game didn’t carry to star’s likeness.
Not that it stopped Tiger Woods 12 breaking series records.
However, Tiger’s presense will be diluted somewhat by the use of two other golfing superstars on the box of Tiger Woods 13 – Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler, both of whom were selected by a poll conducted amongst the EA fanbase.
Bubba Watson and Luke Donald narrowly missed out on securing a cover spot themselves.
“Appearing on the cover of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11 was an amazing experience and helped introduce me to a whole new fan base around the world,” Rory McIlroy said of the news.
“But this year holds special meaning because it was the fans who decided to put me on the cover once again.”
Rickie Fowler added: “For someone that grew up playing Tiger Woods PGA TOUR and is a huge fan of the franchise, this is a great moment in my career. I’m excited to join Tiger on the cover of this year’s game and want to especially thank all of my fans who spread the word and voted for me.”
Tiger himself even chipped in, stating: “There have been a number of great young and up-and-coming golfers to join the sport over the last few years and Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy are certainly on that list.
“Their wins are a testament to their passionate fan base and I’m looking forward to having Rickie and Rory join me on the cover of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13.”
