Microsoft is hoping to launch a new subscription-based online TV service through devices like Xbox 360.
That's according to Reuters sources, who claim that the platform holder is engaged in talks with media firms about licensing TV networks.
While its plans aren't set in stone, MS is reportedly keen to create a "virtual cable operator" that delivers content over the internet for a monthly fee.
It's also said to be exploring the possibility of selling more individual channels like HBO or Showtime directly via Xbox 360. In the US, Microsoft already offers ESPN online through the console.
The sources suggested any new service might not arrive for another year.
