Today's reports that Microsoft will be launching a new Xbox 360 music service later this year are "inaccurate", a Microsoft rep has clarified to CVG.
It was widely reported this morning that Microsoft will launch a new console-based service called Xbox Music this autumn, citing an announcement from CEO Steve Ballmer during a Microsoft Partner Conference yesterday. But this isn't entirely accurate, MS has told us.
"Reports that Microsoft is launching a new music service on Xbox this fall are inaccurate," said the MS rep in response to this morning's reports.
"A recent demonstration of upcoming Xbox features showcased what we will deliver later this fall on Xbox, including voice search with Bing on Xbox to locate and access entertainment content on the console. This includes Zune music which has a catalogue of more than 11 million tracks."
So it's just a new voice-recognition feature linked to the Zune music service via MS' Bing search engine.
