There are plenty of new features coming with the New Xbox Experience when it launches on November 19, but one that won't be included is the ability to share movies and photos with your friends online. But according to Xbox director of marketing Albert Penello, that's a feature that could easily be added in the future thanks to the soon-to-be revamped structure of the Xbox dashboard.
When asked by MTV Multiplayer (via Joystiq) whether the ability to have online movie parties -- perhaps by sharing streaming Netflix movies with other friends who are also Netflix members -- would eventually be added to the service, Penello simply answered, "Yes. Those types of things are certainly the aspiration."
One major change the new Xbox dashboard is bringing is that it'll make the service entirely server-based. This means it'll be far easier for Microsoft to add these types of new features in the future, as they can be plugged in without having to issue a new patch.
"You know, we talked about photo sharing," said Xbox senior strategist Rob Gruhl. "That's something that, hey, if we want to do photo sharing, we just build that app, drop it in, party enable it and we're good to go. If we wanted to do movie sharing, build an app, party enable it, drop it in. Really, it's [the new dashboard] just laying the foundation for our next wave, our next step. Continuing to fill it out, continuing to build it."
Makes you wonder what other sort of features Microsoft may have planned for the future...
