The rumour mill is warming up in preparation for this evening's opening E3 conference from Microsoft, with speculation that Halo 4 could be announced sparked by an apparent error on Xbox.com.
Website NowGamer broke the news that the website had accidentally posted a story detailing the announcement of the next game in the Halo franchise - a post which has since been removed from Microsoft's site.
"The news millions of Halo fans have waited for: Halo 4 is on the way. But that's not all," read the header for the removed story.
Whilst the announcement of a further Halo title may be of little surprise, the method of its publicising is likely to cause Microsoft headaches.
As well as Halo 4, listed in the story were Dance Central 2, Kinect Sports Season 2 and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.
Also confirmed, seemingly by accident, was the appearance of Mass Effect 3 in a slot during the presentation, as detailed by a tweet from BioWare's David Silverman. Whilst the Mass Effect series is now available on PS3 as well as Xbox 360, speculation is that the third game will be a timed 360 exclusive.
Microsoft's presentation begins at 5:30 pm UK time. GamesIndustry.biz editor, Matt Martin, will be reporting from the show.
